| Do not make such a show of rubbing ashes on your body. |

| ਇਨ ਬਿਧਿ ਨਾਗੇ ਜੋਗੁ ਨਾਹਿ ॥੧॥ |
| ein bidhh naagae jog naahi ||1|| |
| O naked Yogi, this is not the way of Yoga! ||1|| |

| ਮੂੜ੍ਹ੍ਹੇ ਕਾਹੇ ਬਿਸਾਰਿਓ ਤੈ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ॥ |
| moorrhae kaahae bisaariou thai raam naam || |
| You fool! How can you have forgotten the Lord's Name? |

| ਅੰਤ ਕਾਲਿ ਤੇਰੈ ਆਵੈ ਕਾਮ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| anth kaal thaerai aavai kaam ||1|| rehaao || |
| At the very last moment, it and it alone shall be of any use to you. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਗੁਰ ਪੂਛਿ ਤੁਮ ਕਰਹੁ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ॥ |
| gur pooshh thum karahu beechaar || |
| Consult the Guru, reflect and think it over. |
|
| ਜਹ ਦੇਖਉ ਤਹ ਸਾਰਿਗਪਾਣਿ ॥੨॥ |
| jeh dhaekho theh saarigapaan ||2|| |
| Wherever I look, I see the Lord of the World. ||2|| |
|
| ਕਿਆ ਹਉ ਆਖਾ ਜਾਂ ਕਛੂ ਨਾਹਿ ॥ |
| kiaa ho aakhaa jaan kashhoo naahi || |
| What can I say? I am nothing. |
|
| ਜਾਤਿ ਪਤਿ ਸਭ ਤੇਰੈ ਨਾਇ ॥੩॥ |
| jaath path sabh thaerai naae ||3|| |
| All my status and honor are in Your Name. ||3|| |
|
| ਕਾਹੇ ਮਾਲੁ ਦਰਬੁ ਦੇਖਿ ਗਰਬਿ ਜਾਹਿ ॥ |
| kaahae maal dharab dhaekh garab jaahi || |
| Why do you take such pride in gazing upon your property and wealth? |
|
| ਚਲਤੀ ਬਾਰ ਤੇਰੋ ਕਛੂ ਨਾਹਿ ॥੪॥ |
| chalathee baar thaero kashhoo naahi ||4|| |
| When you must leave, nothing shall go along with you. ||4|| |
|
| ਪੰਚ ਮਾਰਿ ਚਿਤੁ ਰਖਹੁ ਥਾਇ ॥ |
| panch maar chith rakhahu thhaae || |
| So subdue the five thieves, and hold your consciousness in its place. |
|
| ਜੋਗ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਕੀ ਇਹੈ ਪਾਂਇ ॥੫॥ |
| jog jugath kee eihai paane ||5|| |
| This is the basis of the way of Yoga. ||5|| |
|
| ਹਉਮੈ ਪੈਖੜੁ ਤੇਰੇ ਮਨੈ ਮਾਹਿ ॥ |
| houmai paikharr thaerae manai maahi || |
| Your mind is tied with the rope of egotism. |
|
| ਹਰਿ ਨ ਚੇਤਹਿ ਮੂੜੇ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਜਾਹਿ ॥੬॥ |
| har n chaethehi moorrae mukath jaahi ||6|| |
| You do not even think of the Lord - you fool! He alone shall liberate you. ||6|| |
|
| ਮਤ ਹਰਿ ਵਿਸਰਿਐ ਜਮ ਵਸਿ ਪਾਹਿ ॥ |
| math har visariai jam vas paahi || |
| If you forget the Lord, you will fall into the clutches of the Messenger of Death. |

| ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੁ ਬੀਚਾਰਹਿ ਆਪੁ ਜਾਇ ॥ |
| gur sabadh beechaarehi aap jaae || |
| Contemplate the Word of the Guru's Shabad, and be rid of your ego. |
|
| ਸਾਚ ਜੋਗੁ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਆਇ ॥੮॥ |
| saach jog man vasai aae ||8|| |
| True Yoga shall come to dwell in your mind. ||8|| |
|
| ਜਿਨਿ ਜੀਉ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਦਿਤਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਚੇਤਹਿ ਨਾਹਿ ॥ |
| jin jeeo pindd dhithaa this chaethehi naahi || |
| He blessed you with body and soul, but you do not even think of Him. |
|
| ਮੜੀ ਮਸਾਣੀ ਮੂੜੇ ਜੋਗੁ ਨਾਹਿ ॥੯॥ |
| marree masaanee moorrae jog naahi ||9|| |
| You fool! Visiting graves and cremation grounds is not Yoga. ||9|| |
|
| ਗੁਣ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਬੋਲੈ ਭਲੀ ਬਾਣਿ ॥ |

| Nanak chants the sublime, glorious Bani of the Word. |

| In duality and evil-mindedness, the mortal acts blindly. |
|
| ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਭਰਮੈ ਮਝਿ ਗੁਬਾਰ ॥੧॥ |
| manamukh bharamai majh gubaar ||1|| |
| The self-willed manmukh wanders, lost in the darkness. ||1|| |
|
| ਮਨੁ ਅੰਧੁਲਾ ਅੰਧੁਲੀ ਮਤਿ ਲਾਗੈ ॥ |
| man andhhulaa andhhulee math laagai || |
| The blind man follows blind advice. |
|
| ਗੁਰ ਕਰਣੀ ਬਿਨੁ ਭਰਮੁ ਨ ਭਾਗੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |

| Unless one takes the Guru's Way, his doubt is not dispelled. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਅੰਧੁਲੇ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਨ ਭਾਈ ॥ |
| manamukh andhhulae guramath n bhaaee || |
| The manmukh is blind; he does not like the Guru's Teachings. |
|
| ਪਸੂ ਭਏ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥੨॥ |
| pasoo bheae abhimaan n jaaee ||2|| |
| He has become a beast; he cannot get rid of his egotistical pride. ||2|| |
|
| ਲਖ ਚਉਰਾਸੀਹ ਜੰਤ ਉਪਾਏ ॥ |
| lakh chouraaseeh janth oupaaeae || |
| God created 8.4 million species of beings. |
|
| ਮੇਰੇ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਭਾਣੇ ਸਿਰਜਿ ਸਮਾਏ ॥੩॥ |
| maerae thaakur bhaanae siraj samaaeae ||3|| |
| My Lord and Master, by the Pleasure of His Will, creates and destroys them. ||3|| |
|
| ਸਗਲੀ ਭੂਲੈ ਨਹੀ ਸਬਦੁ ਅਚਾਰੁ ॥ |
| sagalee bhoolai nehee sabadh achaar || |
| All are deluded and confused, without the Word of the Shabad and good conduct. |
|
| ਸੋ ਸਮਝੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਗੁਰੁ ਕਰਤਾਰੁ ॥੪॥ |
| so samajhai jis gur karathaar ||4|| |
| He alone is instructed in this, who is blessed by the Guru, the Creator. ||4|| |
|
| ਗੁਰ ਕੇ ਚਾਕਰ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਭਾਣੇ ॥ |
| gur kae chaakar thaakur bhaanae || |
| The Guru's servants are pleasing to our Lord and Master. |
|
| ਬਖਸਿ ਲੀਏ ਨਾਹੀ ਜਮ ਕਾਣੇ ॥੫॥ |
| bakhas leeeae naahee jam kaanae ||5|| |
| The Lord forgives them, and they no longer fear the Messenger of Death. ||5|| |
|
| ਜਿਨ ਕੈ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਏਕੋ ਭਾਇਆ ॥ |
| jin kai hiradhai eaeko bhaaeiaa || |
| Those who love the One Lord with all their heart |
|
| ਆਪੇ ਮੇਲੇ ਭਰਮੁ ਚੁਕਾਇਆ ॥੬॥ |
| aapae maelae bharam chukaaeiaa ||6|| |
| - He dispels their doubts and unites them with Himself. ||6|| |
|
| ਬੇਮੁਹਤਾਜੁ ਬੇਅੰਤੁ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥ |
| baemuhathaaj baeanth apaaraa || |
| God is Independent, Endless and Infinite. |
|
| ਸਚਿ ਪਤੀਜੈ ਕਰਣੈਹਾਰਾ ॥੭॥ |
| sach patheejai karanaihaaraa ||7|| |
| The Creator Lord is pleased with Truth. ||7|| |
|
| ਨਾਨਕ ਭੂਲੇ ਗੁਰੁ ਸਮਝਾਵੈ ॥ |
| naanak bhoolae gur samajhaavai || |
| O Nanak, the Guru instructs the mistaken soul. |

| ਏਕੁ ਦਿਖਾਵੈ ਸਾਚਿ ਟਿਕਾਵੈ ॥੮॥੬॥ |
| eaek dhikhaavai saach ttikaavai ||8||6|| |
| He implants the Truth within him, and shows him the One Lord. ||8||6|| |

| He Himself is the bumble bee, the fruit and the vine. |

| ਆਪੇ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਮੀਤ ਮੇਲਿ ॥੧॥ |
| aapae sangath meeth mael ||1|| |
| He Himself unites us with the Sangat - the Congregation, and the Guru, our Best Friend. ||1|| |

| ਐਸੀ ਭਵਰਾ ਬਾਸੁ ਲੇ ॥ |
| aisee bhavaraa baas lae || |
| O bumble bee, suck in that fragrance, |
|
| ਤਰਵਰ ਫੂਲੇ ਬਨ ਹਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| tharavar foolae ban harae ||1|| rehaao || |
| which causes the trees to flower, and the woods to grow lush foliage. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਆਪੇ ਕਵਲਾ ਕੰਤੁ ਆਪਿ ॥ |
| aapae kavalaa kanth aap || |
| He Himself is Lakshmi, and He Himself is her husband. |

| ਆਪੇ ਰਾਵੇ ਸਬਦਿ ਥਾਪਿ ॥੨॥ |
| aapae raavae sabadh thhaap ||2|| |
| He established the world by Word of His Shabad, and He Himself ravishes it. ||2|| |

| He Himself is the calf, the cow and the milk. |
