| The poets and the Yogis with their matted hair |

| ਸਭ ਆਪਨ ਅਉਸਰ ਚਲੇ ਸਾਰਿ ॥੨॥ |
| sabh aapan aousar chalae saar ||2|| |
| all lived their lives with good behavior. ||2|| |
|
| ਤੂ ਅਥਾਹੁ ਮੋਹਿ ਥਾਹ ਨਾਹਿ ॥ |
| thoo athhaahu mohi thhaah naahi || |
| You are Unfathomable; I cannot know Your depth. |
|
| ਪ੍ਰਭ ਦੀਨਾ ਨਾਥ ਦੁਖੁ ਕਹਉ ਕਾਹਿ ॥ |
| prabh dheenaa naathh dhukh keho kaahi || |
| O God, Master of the meek, unto whom should I tell my pains? |
|
| ਮੋਰੋ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੁਖੁ ਆਥਿ ਧੀਰ ॥ |
| moro janam maran dhukh aathh dhheer || |
| Please rid me of the pains of birth and death, and bless me with peace. |
|
| ਸੁਖ ਸਾਗਰ ਗੁਨ ਰਉ ਕਬੀਰ ॥੩॥੫॥ |

| Kabeer utters the Glorious Praises of God, the Ocean of peace. ||3||5|| |

| There is one merchant and five traders. |
|
| ਬਰਧ ਪਚੀਸਕ ਸੰਗੁ ਕਾਚ ॥ |
| baradhh pacheesak sang kaach || |
| The twenty-five oxen carry false merchandise. |
|
| ਨਉ ਬਹੀਆਂ ਦਸ ਗੋਨਿ ਆਹਿ ॥ |
| no beheeaaan dhas gon aahi || |
| There are nine poles which hold the ten bags. |
|
| ਕਸਨਿ ਬਹਤਰਿ ਲਾਗੀ ਤਾਹਿ ॥੧॥ |
| kasan behathar laagee thaahi ||1|| |
| The body is tied by the seventy-two ropes. ||1|| |
|
| ਜਿਹ ਘਟੈ ਮੂਲੁ ਨਿਤ ਬਢੈ ਬਿਆਜੁ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| jih ghattai mool nith badtai biaaj || rehaao || |
| It depletes my capital, and the interest charges only increase. ||Pause|| |

| ਸਾਤ ਸੂਤ ਮਿਲਿ ਬਨਜੁ ਕੀਨ ॥ |
| saath sooth mil banaj keen || |
| Weaving the seven threads together, they carry on their trade. |
|
| ਕਰਮ ਭਾਵਨੀ ਸੰਗ ਲੀਨ ॥ |
| karam bhaavanee sang leen || |
| They are led on by the karma of their past actions. |
|
| ਤੀਨਿ ਜਗਾਤੀ ਕਰਤ ਰਾਰਿ ॥ |
| theen jagaathee karath raar || |
| The three tax-collectors argue with them. |
|
| ਚਲੋ ਬਨਜਾਰਾ ਹਾਥ ਝਾਰਿ ॥੨॥ |
| chalo banajaaraa haathh jhaar ||2|| |
| The traders depart empty-handed. ||2|| |
|
| ਪੂੰਜੀ ਹਿਰਾਨੀ ਬਨਜੁ ਟੂਟ ॥ |
| poonjee hiraanee banaj ttoott || |
| Their capital is exhausted, and their trade is ruined. |
|
| ਦਹ ਦਿਸ ਟਾਂਡੋ ਗਇਓ ਫੂਟਿ ॥ |

| The caravan is scattered in the ten directions. |
|
| ਕਹਿ ਕਬੀਰ ਮਨ ਸਰਸੀ ਕਾਜ ॥ |
| kehi kabeer man sarasee kaaj || |
| Says Kabeer, O mortal, your tasks will be accomplished, |

| ਸਹਜ ਸਮਾਨੋ ਤ ਭਰਮ ਭਾਜ ॥੩॥੬॥ |

| The mother is impure, and the father is impure. The fruit they produce is impure. |

| ਆਵਹਿ ਜੂਠੇ ਜਾਹਿ ਭੀ ਜੂਠੇ ਜੂਠੇ ਮਰਹਿ ਅਭਾਗੇ ॥੧॥ |
| aavehi joothae jaahi bhee joothae joothae marehi abhaagae ||1|| |
| Impure they come, and impure they go. The unfortunate ones die in impurity. ||1|| |

| ਕਹੁ ਪੰਡਿਤ ਸੂਚਾ ਕਵਨੁ ਠਾਉ ॥ |

| Tell me, O Pandit, O religious scholar, which place is uncontaminated? |

| ਜਿਹਬਾ ਜੂਠੀ ਬੋਲਤ ਜੂਠਾ ਕਰਨ ਨੇਤ੍ਰ ਸਭਿ ਜੂਠੇ ॥ |
| jihabaa joothee bolath joothaa karan naethr sabh joothae || |
| The tongue is impure, and its speech is impure. The eyes and ears are totally impure. |

| ਇੰਦ੍ਰੀ ਕੀ ਜੂਠਿ ਉਤਰਸਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਅਗਨਿ ਕੇ ਲੂਠੇ ॥੨॥ |
| eindhree kee jooth outharas naahee breham agan kae loothae ||2|| |
| The impurity of the sexual organs does not depart; the Brahmin is burnt by the fire. ||2|| |

| ਅਗਨਿ ਭੀ ਜੂਠੀ ਪਾਨੀ ਜੂਠਾ ਜੂਠੀ ਬੈਸਿ ਪਕਾਇਆ ॥ |

| The fire is impure, and the water is impure. The place where you sit and cook is impure. |

| ਜੂਠੀ ਕਰਛੀ ਪਰੋਸਨ ਲਾਗਾ ਜੂਠੇ ਹੀ ਬੈਠਿ ਖਾਇਆ ॥੩॥ |
| joothee karashhee parosan laagaa joothae hee baith khaaeiaa ||3|| |
| Impure is the ladle which serves the food. Impure is the one who sits down to eat it. ||3|| |

| ਗੋਬਰੁ ਜੂਠਾ ਚਉਕਾ ਜੂਠਾ ਜੂਠੀ ਦੀਨੀ ਕਾਰਾ ॥ |
| gobar joothaa choukaa joothaa joothee dheenee kaaraa || |
| Impure is the cow dung, and impure is the kitchen square. Impure are the lines that mark it off. |

| ਕਹਿ ਕਬੀਰ ਤੇਈ ਨਰ ਸੂਚੇ ਸਾਚੀ ਪਰੀ ਬਿਚਾਰਾ ॥੪॥੧॥੭॥ |

| Where should I go? My home is filled with bliss. |

| ਮੇਰਾ ਚਿਤੁ ਨ ਚਲੈ ਮਨੁ ਭਇਓ ਪੰਗੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |

| My consciousness does not go out wandering. My mind has become crippled. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਏਕ ਦਿਵਸ ਮਨ ਭਈ ਉਮੰਗ ॥ |
| eaek dhivas man bhee oumang || |
| One day, a desire welled up in my mind. |

| ਘਸਿ ਚੰਦਨ ਚੋਆ ਬਹੁ ਸੁਗੰਧ ॥ |
| ghas chandhan choaa bahu sugandhh || |
| I ground up sandalwood, along with several fragrant oils. |

| ਪੂਜਨ ਚਾਲੀ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਠਾਇ ॥ |
| poojan chaalee breham thaae || |
| I went to God's place, and worshipped Him there. |
|
| ਸੋ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਬਤਾਇਓ ਗੁਰ ਮਨ ਹੀ ਮਾਹਿ ॥੧॥ |
| so breham bathaaeiou gur man hee maahi ||1|| |
| That God showed me the Guru, within my own mind. ||1|| |
|
| ਜਹਾ ਜਾਈਐ ਤਹ ਜਲ ਪਖਾਨ ॥ |
| jehaa jaaeeai theh jal pakhaan || |
| Wherever I go, I find water and stones. |
|
| ਤੂ ਪੂਰਿ ਰਹਿਓ ਹੈ ਸਭ ਸਮਾਨ ॥ |
| thoo poor rehiou hai sabh samaan || |
| You are totally pervading and permeating in all. |
|
| ਬੇਦ ਪੁਰਾਨ ਸਭ ਦੇਖੇ ਜੋਇ ॥ |

| I have searched through all the Vedas and the Puraanas. |

| ਊਹਾਂ ਤਉ ਜਾਈਐ ਜਉ ਈਹਾਂ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥੨॥ |
| oohaan tho jaaeeai jo eehaan n hoe ||2|| |
| I would go there, only if the Lord were not here. ||2|| |

| You have cut through all my confusion and doubt. |
