| Death does not see them, and pain does not afflict them. |

| ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰਿ ਬੰਧਨ ਸਭ ਤੋੜੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੁਹਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥ |
| houmai maar bandhhan sabh thorrai guramukh sabadh suhaavaniaa ||1|| |
| Subduing egotism, they break all their bonds; as Gurmukh, they are adorned with the Word of the Shabad. ||1|| |

| ਹਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਸੁਹਾਵਣਿਆ ॥ |

| I am a sacrifice, my soul is a sacrifice, to those who look beautiful in the Name of the Lord, Har, Har. |

| The Gurmukhs are celebrated in life and death. |

| ਆਰਜਾ ਨ ਛੀਜੈ ਸਬਦੁ ਪਛਾਣੁ ॥ |
| aarajaa n shheejai sabadh pashhaan || |
| Their lives are not wasted; they realize the Word of the Shabad. |

| ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮਰੈ ਨ ਕਾਲੁ ਨ ਖਾਏ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੨॥ |
| guramukh marai n kaal n khaaeae guramukh sach samaavaniaa ||2|| |
| The Gurmukhs do not die; they are not consumed by death. The Gurmukhs are absorbed in the True Lord. ||2|| |

| ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਦਰਿ ਸੋਭਾ ਪਾਏ ॥ |
| guramukh har dhar sobhaa paaeae || |
| The Gurmukhs are honored in the Court of the Lord. |

| ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਏ ॥ |
| guramukh vichahu aap gavaaeae || |
| The Gurmukhs eradicate selfishness and conceit from within. |

| ਆਪਿ ਤਰੈ ਕੁਲ ਸਗਲੇ ਤਾਰੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜਨਮੁ ਸਵਾਰਣਿਆ ॥੩॥ |
| aap tharai kul sagalae thaarae guramukh janam savaaraniaa ||3|| |
| They save themselves, and save all their families and ancestors as well. The Gurmukhs redeem their lives. ||3|| |

| ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਦੁਖੁ ਕਦੇ ਨ ਲਗੈ ਸਰੀਰਿ ॥ |

| The Gurmukhs never suffer bodily pain. |

| ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਉਮੈ ਚੂਕੈ ਪੀਰ ॥ |
| guramukh houmai chookai peer || |
| The Gurmukhs have the pain of egotism taken away. |

| ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਫਿਰਿ ਮੈਲੁ ਨ ਲਾਗੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੪॥ |
| guramukh man niramal fir mail n laagai guramukh sehaj samaavaniaa ||4|| |
| The minds of the Gurmukhs are immaculate and pure; no filth ever sticks to them again. The Gurmukhs merge in celestial peace. ||4|| |

| The Gurmukhs obtain the Greatness of the Naam. |

| ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ਸੋਭਾ ਪਾਈ ॥ |
| guramukh gun gaavai sobhaa paaee || |
| The Gurmukhs sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord, and obtain honor. |

| ਸਦਾ ਅਨੰਦਿ ਰਹੈ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਕਰਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੫॥ |
| sadhaa anandh rehai dhin raathee guramukh sabadh karaavaniaa ||5|| |
| They remain in bliss forever, day and night. The Gurmukhs practice the Word of the Shabad. ||5|| |

| ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਸਬਦੇ ਰਾਤਾ ॥ |
| guramukh anadhin sabadhae raathaa || |
| The Gurmukhs are attuned to the Shabad, night and day. |

| ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜੁਗ ਚਾਰੇ ਹੈ ਜਾਤਾ ॥ |
| guramukh jug chaarae hai jaathaa || |
| The Gurmukhs are known throughout the four ages. |

| ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ਸਦਾ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਸਬਦੇ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੬॥ |
| guramukh gun gaavai sadhaa niramal sabadhae bhagath karaavaniaa ||6|| |
| The Gurmukhs always sing the Glorious Praises of the Immaculate Lord. Through the Shabad, they practice devotional worship. ||6|| |

| ਬਾਝੁ ਗੁਰੂ ਹੈ ਅੰਧ ਅੰਧਾਰਾ ॥ |
| baajh guroo hai andhh andhhaaraa || |
| Without the Guru, there is only pitch-black darkness. |

| ਜਮਕਾਲਿ ਗਰਠੇ ਕਰਹਿ ਪੁਕਾਰਾ ॥ |
| jamakaal garathae karehi pukaaraa || |
| Seized by the Messenger of Death, people cry out and scream. |

| ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਰੋਗੀ ਬਿਸਟਾ ਕੇ ਕੀੜੇ ਬਿਸਟਾ ਮਹਿ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥ |
| anadhin rogee bisattaa kae keerrae bisattaa mehi dhukh paavaniaa ||7|| |
| Night and day, they are diseased, like maggots in manure, and in manure they endure agony. ||7|| |

| ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਆਪੇ ਕਰੇ ਕਰਾਏ ॥ |

| The Gurmukhs know that the Lord alone acts, and causes others to act. |

| ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਵੁਠਾ ਆਪਿ ਆਏ ॥ |
| guramukh hiradhai vuthaa aap aaeae || |
| In the hearts of the Gurmukhs, the Lord Himself comes to dwell. |

| ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੮॥੨੫॥੨੬॥ |
| naanak naam milai vaddiaaee poorae gur thae paavaniaa ||8||25||26|| |
| O Nanak, through the Naam, greatness is obtained. It is received from the Perfect Guru. ||8||25||26|| |

| The Perfect True Guru reveals it through the Word of the Shabad. |

| ਆਪੇ ਫਰਕੁ ਕੀਤੋਨੁ ਘਟ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਆਪੇ ਬਣਤ ਬਣਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥ |
| aapae farak keethon ghatt anthar aapae banath banaavaniaa ||1|| |
| He Himself instills the sense of separation within our hearts; He Himself created the Creation. ||1|| |

| I am a sacrifice, my soul is a sacrifice, to those who sing the Glorious Praises of the True Lord. |

| ਬਾਝੁ ਗੁਰੂ ਕੋ ਸਹਜੁ ਨ ਪਾਏ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |

| Without the Guru, no one obtains intuitive wisdom; the Gurmukh is absorbed in intuitive peace. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਤੂੰ ਆਪੇ ਸੋਹਹਿ ਆਪੇ ਜਗੁ ਮੋਹਹਿ ॥ |

| You Yourself are Beautiful, and You Yourself entice the world. |

| ਤੂੰ ਆਪੇ ਨਦਰੀ ਜਗਤੁ ਪਰੋਵਹਿ ॥ |
| thoon aapae nadharee jagath parovehi || |
| You Yourself, by Your Kind Mercy, weave the thread of the world. |

| ਤੂੰ ਆਪੇ ਦੁਖੁ ਸੁਖੁ ਦੇਵਹਿ ਕਰਤੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਦੇਖਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੨॥ |
| thoon aapae dhukh sukh dhaevehi karathae guramukh har dhaekhaavaniaa ||2|| |
| You Yourself bestow pain and pleasure, O Creator. The Lord reveals Himself to the Gurmukh. ||2|| |

| ਆਪੇ ਕਰਤਾ ਕਰੇ ਕਰਾਏ ॥ |

| The Creator Himself acts, and causes others to act. |
 |
| ਆਪੇ ਸਬਦੁ ਗੁਰ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਏ ॥ |
| aapae sabadh gur mann vasaaeae || |
| Through Him, the Word of the Guru's Shabad is enshrined within the mind. |

| ਸਬਦੇ ਉਪਜੈ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਬਾਣੀ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਆਖਿ ਸੁਣਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੩॥ |
| sabadhae oupajai anmrith baanee guramukh aakh sunaavaniaa ||3|| |
| The Ambrosial Word of the Guru's Bani emanates from the Word of the Shabad. The Gurmukh speaks it and hears it. ||3|| |

| ਆਪੇ ਕਰਤਾ ਆਪੇ ਭੁਗਤਾ ॥ |
| aapae karathaa aapae bhugathaa || |
| He Himself is the Creator, and He Himself is the Enjoyer. |
 |
| ਬੰਧਨ ਤੋੜੇ ਸਦਾ ਹੈ ਮੁਕਤਾ ॥ |
| bandhhan thorrae sadhaa hai mukathaa || |
| One who breaks out of bondage is liberated forever. |
 |
| ਸਦਾ ਮੁਕਤੁ ਆਪੇ ਹੈ ਸਚਾ ਆਪੇ ਅਲਖੁ ਲਖਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੪॥ |
| sadhaa mukath aapae hai sachaa aapae alakh lakhaavaniaa ||4|| |
| The True Lord is liberated forever. The Unseen Lord causes Himself to be seen. ||4|| |

| ਆਪੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਆਪੇ ਛਾਇਆ ॥ |
| aapae maaeiaa aapae shhaaeiaa || |
| He Himself is Maya, and He Himself is the Illusion. |
 |
| ਆਪੇ ਮੋਹੁ ਸਭੁ ਜਗਤੁ ਉਪਾਇਆ ॥ |
| aapae mohu sabh jagath oupaaeiaa || |
| He Himself has generated emotional attachment throughout the entire universe. |
 |
| ਆਪੇ ਗੁਣਦਾਤਾ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ਆਪੇ ਆਖਿ ਸੁਣਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੫॥ |
| aapae gunadhaathaa gun gaavai aapae aakh sunaavaniaa ||5|| |
| He Himself is the Giver of Virtue; He Himself sings the Lord's Glorious Praises. He chants them and causes them to be heard. ||5|| |

| He Himself acts, and causes others to act. |
 |
| ਆਪੇ ਥਾਪਿ ਉਥਾਪੇ ਆਪੇ ॥ |
| aapae thhaap outhhaapae aapae || |
| He Himself establishes and disestablishes. |

| ਤੁਝ ਤੇ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਕਛੂ ਨ ਹੋਵੈ ਤੂੰ ਆਪੇ ਕਾਰੈ ਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੬॥ |
| thujh thae baahar kashhoo n hovai thoon aapae kaarai laavaniaa ||6|| |
| Without You, nothing can be done. You Yourself have engaged all in their tasks. ||6|| |

| He Himself kills, and He Himself revives. |

| He Himself unites us, and unites us in Union with Himself. |

| ਆਪੇ ਊਚਾ ਊਚੋ ਹੋਈ ॥ |
| aapae oochaa oocho hoee || |
| He Himself is the Highest of the High. |

| ਜਿਸੁ ਆਪਿ ਵਿਖਾਲੇ ਸੁ ਵੇਖੈ ਕੋਈ ॥ |

| How rare are those who behold Him. He causes Himself to be seen. |
