| jap man govindh har govindh gunee nidhhaan sabh srisatt kaa prabho maerae man har bol har purakh abinaasee ||1|| rehaao || |
| O my mind, meditate on the Lord of the Universe, the Lord, the Lord of the Universe, the Treasure of Virtue, the God of all creation. O my mind, chant the Name of the Lord, the Lord, the Eternal, Imperishable, Primal Lord God. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰੇ ਸੋ ਪੀਐ ਜਿਸੁ ਰਾਮੁ ਪਿਆਸੀ ॥ |
| har kaa naam anmrith har har harae so peeai jis raam piaasee || |
| The Name of the Lord is the Ambrosial Nectar, Har, Har, Har. He alone drinks it in, whom the Lord inspires to drink it. |

| ਹਰਿ ਆਪਿ ਦਇਆਲੁ ਦਇਆ ਕਰਿ ਮੇਲੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਸੋ ਜਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਚਖਾਸੀ ॥੧॥ |
| har aap dhaeiaal dhaeiaa kar maelai jis sathiguroo so jan har har anmrith naam chakhaasee ||1|| |
| The Merciful Lord Himself bestows His Mercy, and He leads the mortal to meet with the True Guru. That humble being tastes the Ambrosial Name of the Lord, Har, Har. ||1|| |

| ਜੋ ਜਨ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਸਦ ਸਦਾ ਮੇਰਾ ਹਰਿ ਹਰੇ ਤਿਨ ਕਾ ਸਭੁ ਦੂਖੁ ਭਰਮੁ ਭਉ ਜਾਸੀ ॥ |
| jo jan saevehi sadh sadhaa maeraa har harae thin kaa sabh dhookh bharam bho jaasee || |
| Those who serve my Lord, forever and ever - all their pain, doubt and fear are taken away. |

| ਜਨੁ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਲਏ ਤਾਂ ਜੀਵੈ ਜਿਉ ਚਾਤ੍ਰਿਕੁ ਜਲਿ ਪੀਐ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਾਸੀ ॥੨॥੫॥੧੨॥ |
| jan naanak naam leae thaan jeevai jio chaathrik jal peeai thripathaasee ||2||5||12|| |
| Servant Nanak chants the Naam, the Name of the Lord, and so he lives, like the song-bird, which is satisfied only by drinking in the water. ||2||5||12|| |

| O my mind, meditate on the Supreme Lord. |

| raam ramath raam || |
| The Lord, the Lord is All-pervading. |

| True, True is the Lord. |

| raam aapae aap aapae sabh karathaa raam aapae aap aap sabhath jagae || |
| The Lord Himself is Himself the Creator of all. The Lord Himself is Himself pervading the whole world. |

| ਜਿਸੁ ਆਪਿ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰੇ ਮੇਰਾ ਰਾਮ ਰਾਮ ਰਾਮ ਰਾਇ ਸੋ ਜਨੁ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਗੇ ॥੧॥ |
| jis aap kirapaa karae maeraa raam raam raam raae so jan raam naam liv laagae ||1|| |
| That person, upon whom my Sovereign Lord King, Raam, Raam, Raam, bestows His Mercy - that person is lovingly attuned to the Lord's Name. ||1|| |

| ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਕੀ ਉਪਮਾ ਦੇਖਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਸੰਤਹੁ ਜੋ ਭਗਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਕੀ ਪਤਿ ਰਾਖੈ ਵਿਚਿ ਕਲਿਜੁਗ ਅਗੇ ॥ |
| raam naam kee oupamaa dhaekhahu har santhahu jo bhagath janaan kee path raakhai vich kalijug agae || |
| O Saints of the Lord, behold the Glory of the Name of the Lord; His Name saves the honor of His humble devotees in this Dark Age of Kali Yuga. |

| My Sovereign Lord King has taken servant Nanak's side; his enemies and attackers have all run away. ||2||6||13|| |

| I am a sacrifice to the Image of the True Guru. |

| ਅੰਤਰਿ ਪਿਆਸ ਚਾਤ੍ਰਿਕ ਜਿਉ ਜਲ ਕੀ ਸਫਲ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਕਦਿ ਪਾਂਉ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| anthar piaas chaathrik jio jal kee safal dharasan kadh paano ||1|| rehaao || |
| My inner being is filled with a great thirst, like that of the song-bird for water. When shall I find the Fruitful Vision of His Darshan? ||1||Pause|| |

| ਅਨਾਥਾ ਕੋ ਨਾਥੁ ਸਰਬ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲਕੁ ਭਗਤਿ ਵਛਲੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਉ ॥ |
| anaathhaa ko naathh sarab prathipaalak bhagath vashhal har naao || |
| He is the Master of the masterless, the Cherisher of all. He is the Lover of the devotees of His Name. |

| ਜਾ ਕਉ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਰਾਖੈ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਤਿਸੁ ਤੂ ਦੇਹਿ ਅਸਰਾਉ ॥੧॥ |
| jaa ko koe n raakhai praanee this thoo dhaehi asaraao ||1|| |
| That mortal, whom no one can protect - You bless him with Your Support, O Lord. ||1|| |

| ਨਿਧਰਿਆ ਧਰ ਨਿਗਤਿਆ ਗਤਿ ਨਿਥਾਵਿਆ ਤੂ ਥਾਉ ॥ |
| nidhhariaa dhhar nigathiaa gath nithhaaviaa thoo thhaao || |
| Support of the unsupported, Saving Grace of the unsaved, Home of the homeless. |

| ਦਹ ਦਿਸ ਜਾਂਉ ਤਹਾਂ ਤੂ ਸੰਗੇ ਤੇਰੀ ਕੀਰਤਿ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਉ ॥੨॥ |
| dheh dhis jaano thehaan thoo sangae thaeree keerath karam kamaao ||2|| |
| Wherever I go in the ten directions, You are there with me. The only thing I do is sing the Kirtan of Your Praises. ||2|| |
|
| ਏਕਸੁ ਤੇ ਲਾਖ ਲਾਖ ਤੇ ਏਕਾ ਤੇਰੀ ਗਤਿ ਮਿਤਿ ਕਹਿ ਨ ਸਕਾਉ ॥ |
| eaekas thae laakh laakh thae eaekaa thaeree gath mith kehi n sakaao || |
| From Your Oneness, You become tens of thousands, and from tens of thousands, You become One. I cannot describe Your state and extent. |

| ਤੂ ਬੇਅੰਤੁ ਤੇਰੀ ਮਿਤਿ ਨਹੀ ਪਾਈਐ ਸਭੁ ਤੇਰੋ ਖੇਲੁ ਦਿਖਾਉ ॥੩॥ |
| thoo baeanth thaeree mith nehee paaeeai sabh thaero khael dhikhaao ||3|| |
| You are Infinite - Your value cannot be appraised. Everything I see is Your play. ||3|| |
|
| ਸਾਧਨ ਕਾ ਸੰਗੁ ਸਾਧ ਸਿਉ ਗੋਸਟਿ ਹਰਿ ਸਾਧਨ ਸਿਉ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਉ ॥ |
| saadhhan kaa sang saadhh sio gosatt har saadhhan sio liv laao || |
| I speak with the Company of the Holy; I am in love with the Holy people of the Lord. |

| ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਪਾਇਆ ਹੈ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਦੇਹੁ ਦਰਸੁ ਮਨਿ ਚਾਉ ॥੪॥੧॥ |
| jan naanak paaeiaa hai guramath har dhaehu dharas man chaao ||4||1|| |
| Servant Nanak has found the Lord through the Guru's Teachings; please bless me with Your Blessed Vision; O Lord, my mind yearns for it. ||4||1|| |

| ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ਜਾਨ ॥ |
| har jeeo antharajaamee jaan || |
| The Dear Lord is the Inner-knower, the Searcher of hearts. |
|
| ਕਰਤ ਬੁਰਾਈ ਮਾਨੁਖ ਤੇ ਛਪਾਈ ਸਾਖੀ ਭੂਤ ਪਵਾਨ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| karath buraaee maanukh thae shhapaaee saakhee bhooth pavaan ||1|| rehaao || |
| The mortal does evil deeds, and hides from others, but like the air, the Lord is present everywhere. ||1||Pause|| |
|
| ਬੈਸਨੌ ਨਾਮੁ ਕਰਤ ਖਟ ਕਰਮਾ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਲੋਭ ਜੂਠਾਨ ॥ |
| baisana naam karath khatt karamaa anthar lobh joothaan || |
| You call yourself a devotee of Vishnu and you practice the six rituals, but your inner being is polluted with greed. |
|
| ਕਰਹਿ ਸੋਮ ਪਾਕੁ ਹਿਰਹਿ ਪਰ ਦਰਬਾ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਝੂਠ ਗੁਮਾਨ ॥ |
| karehi som paak hirehi par dharabaa anthar jhooth gumaan || |
| The mortal eats the food which he has carefully prepared, and then steals the wealth of others. His inner being is filled with falsehood and pride. |
|
| ਸਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਬੇਦ ਕੀ ਬਿਧਿ ਨਹੀ ਜਾਣਹਿ ਬਿਆਪੇ ਮਨ ਕੈ ਮਾਨ ॥੨॥ |
| saasathr baedh kee bidhh nehee jaanehi biaapae man kai maan ||2|| |
| He knows nothing of the Vedas or the Shaastras; his mind is gripped by pride. ||2|| |
|
| ਸੰਧਿਆ ਕਾਲ ਕਰਹਿ ਸਭਿ ਵਰਤਾ ਜਿਉ ਸਫਰੀ ਦੰਫਾਨ ॥ |
| sandhhiaa kaal karehi sabh varathaa jio safaree dhanfaan || |
| He says his evening prayers, and observes all the fasts, but this is all just a show. |
|
| ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਭੁਲਾਏ ਊਝੜਿ ਪਾਏ ਨਿਹਫਲ ਸਭਿ ਕਰਮਾਨ ॥੩॥ |
| prabhoo bhulaaeae oojharr paaeae nihafal sabh karamaan ||3|| |
| God made him stray from the path, and sent him into the wilderness. All his actions are useless. ||3|| |
|
| ਸੋ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਸੋ ਬੈਸਨੌ ਪੜ੍ਹ੍ਹਿਆ ਜਿਸੁ ਕਰੀ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਭਗਵਾਨ ॥ |
| so giaanee so baisana parrihaaa jis karee kirapaa bhagavaan || |
| He alone is a spiritual teacher, and he alone is a devotee of Vishnu and a scholar, whom the Lord God blesses with His Grace. |
|
| ਓੁਨਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿ ਪਰਮ ਪਦੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਉਧਰਿਆ ਸਗਲ ਬਿਸ੍ਵਾਨ ॥੪॥ |
| oun sathigur saev param padh paaeiaa oudhhariaa sagal bisvaan ||4|| |
| Serving the True Guru, he obtains the supreme status and saves the whole world. ||4|| |
|
| ਕਿਆ ਹਮ ਕਥਹ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਥਿ ਨਹੀ ਜਾਣਹ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਵੈ ਬਲਾਨ ॥ |
| kiaa ham kathheh kishh kathh nehee jaaneh prabh bhaavai thivai buolaan || |
| What can I say? I don't know what to say. As God wills, so do I speak. |
|
| ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਕੀ ਧੂਰਿ ਇਕ ਮਾਂਗਉ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਪਇਓ ਸਰਾਨ ॥੫॥੨॥ |
| saadhhasangath kee dhhoor eik maango jan naanak paeiou saraan ||5||2|| |
| I ask only for the dust of the feet of the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy. Servant Nanak seeks their Sanctuary. ||5||2|| |

| ਅਬ ਮੋਰੋ ਨਾਚਨੋ ਰਹੋ ॥ |
| ab moro naachano reho || |
| Now, my dancing is over. |
|
| ਲਾਲੁ ਰਗੀਲਾ ਸਹਜੇ ਪਾਇਓ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਬਚਨਿ ਲਹੋ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| laal rageelaa sehajae paaeiou sathigur bachan leho ||1|| rehaao || |
| I have intuitively obtained my Darling Beloved. Through the Word of the True Guru's Teachings, I found Him. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਕੁਆਰ ਕੰਨਿਆ ਜੈਸੇ ਸੰਗਿ ਸਹੇਰੀ ਪ੍ਰਿਅ ਬਚਨ ਉਪਹਾਸ ਕਹੋ ॥ |
| kuaar kanniaa jaisae sang sehaeree pria bachan oupehaas keho || |
| The virgin speaks with her friends about her husband and they laugh together; |

| ਜਉ ਸੁਰਿਜਨੁ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਆਇਓ ਤਬ ਮੁਖੁ ਕਾਜਿ ਲਜੋ ॥੧॥ |
| jo surijan grih bheethar aaeiou thab mukh kaaj lajo ||1|| |
| but when he comes home, she becomes shy, and modestly covers her face. ||1|| |
|
| ਜਿਉ ਕਨਿਕੋ ਕੋਠਾਰੀ ਚੜਿਓ ਕਬਰੋ ਹੋਤ ਫਿਰੋ ॥ |
| jio kaniko kothaaree charriou kabaro hoth firo || |
| When gold is melted in the crucible, it flows freely everywhere. |
|
| ਜਬ ਤੇ ਸੁਧ ਭਏ ਹੈ ਬਾਰਹਿ ਤਬ ਤੇ ਥਾਨ ਥਿਰੋ ॥੨॥ |
| jab thae sudhh bheae hai baarehi thab thae thhaan thhiro ||2|| |
| But when it is made into pure solid bars of gold, then it remains stationary. ||2|| |
|
| ਜਉ ਦਿਨੁ ਰੈਨਿ ਤਊ ਲਉ ਬਜਿਓ ਮੂਰਤ ਘਰੀ ਪਲੋ ॥ |
| jo dhin rain thoo lo bajiou moorath gharee palo || |
| As long as the days and the nights of one's life last, the clock strikes the hours, minutes and seconds. |

| ਬਜਾਵਨਹਾਰੋ ਊਠਿ ਸਿਧਾਰਿਓ ਤਬ ਫਿਰਿ ਬਾਜੁ ਨ ਭਇਓ ॥੩॥ |
| bajaavanehaaro ooth sidhhaariou thab fir baaj n bhaeiou ||3|| |
| But when the gong player gets up and leaves, the gong is not sounded again. ||3|| |
|
| ਜੈਸੇ ਕੁੰਭ ਉਦਕ ਪੂਰਿ ਆਨਿਓ ਤਬ ਓੁਹੁ ਭਿੰਨ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟੋ ॥ |
| jaisae kunbh oudhak poor aaniou thab ouhu bhinn dhrisatto || |
| When the pitcher is filled with water, the water contained within it seems distinct. |
|
| ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਕੁੰਭੁ ਜਲੈ ਮਹਿ ਡਾਰਿਓ ਅੰਭੈ ਅੰਭ ਮਿਲੋ ॥੪॥੩॥ |
| kahu naanak kunbh jalai mehi ddaariou anbhai anbh milo ||4||3|| |
| Says Nanak, when the pitcher is emptied out, the water mingles again with water. ||4||3|| |
