| O my mind, the Naam is the most sublime peace. |

| ਆਨ ਕਾਮ ਬਿਕਾਰ ਮਾਇਆ ਸਗਲ ਦੀਸਹਿ ਛਾਰ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| aan kaam bikaar maaeiaa sagal dheesehi shhaar ||1|| rehaao || |
| Other affairs of Maya are corrupt. They are nothing more than dust. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਗ੍ਰਿਹਿ ਅੰਧ ਕੂਪ ਪਤਿਤ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਨਰਕ ਘੋਰ ਗੁਬਾਰ ॥ |
| grihi andhh koop pathith praanee narak ghor gubaar || |
| The mortal has fallen into the deep dark pit of household attachment; it is a horrible, dark hell. |

| ਅਨਿਕ ਜੋਨੀ ਭ੍ਰਮਤ ਹਾਰਿਓ ਭ੍ਰਮਤ ਬਾਰੰ ਬਾਰ ॥੧॥ |
| anik jonee bhramath haariou bhramath baaran baar ||1|| |
| He wanders in various incarnations, growing weary; he wanders through them again and again. ||1|| |

| ਪਤਿਤ ਪਾਵਨ ਭਗਤਿ ਬਛਲ ਦੀਨ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰ ॥ |
| pathith paavan bhagath bashhal dheen kirapaa dhhaar || |
| O Purifier of sinners, O Lover of Your devotees, please shower Your Mercy on Your meek servant. |

| ਕਰ ਜੋੜਿ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਦਾਨੁ ਮਾਂਗੈ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਉਧਾਰ ॥੨॥੭੬॥੯੯॥ |
| kar jorr naanak dhaan maangai saadhhasang oudhhaar ||2||76||99|| |
| With palms pressed together, Nanak begs for this blessing: O Lord, please save me in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy. ||2||76||99|| |

| The Glorious Radiance of the Lord has spread out everywhere. |

| ਆਧਿ ਬਿਆਧਿ ਉਪਾਧਿ ਸਭ ਨਾਸੀ ਬਿਨਸੇ ਤੀਨੈ ਤਾਪ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| aadhh biaadhh oupaadhh sabh naasee binasae theenai thaap ||1|| rehaao || |
| The doubts of my mind and body are all erased, and I am rid of the three diseases. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਬੁਝੀ ਪੂਰਨ ਸਭ ਆਸਾ ਚੂਕੇ ਸੋਗ ਸੰਤਾਪ ॥ |
| thrisanaa bujhee pooran sabh aasaa chookae sog santhaap || |
| My thirst is quenched, and my hopes have all been fulfilled; my sorrows and sufferings are over. |

| ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਤ ਅਚੁਤ ਅਬਿਨਾਸੀ ਮਨ ਤਨ ਆਤਮ ਧ੍ਰਾਪ ॥੧॥ |
| gun gaavath achuth abinaasee man than aatham dhhraap ||1|| |
| Singing the Glorious Praises of the Unmoving, Eternal, Unchanging Lord God, my mind, body and soul are comforted and encouraged. ||1|| |

| ਕਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਲੋਭ ਮਦ ਮਤਸਰ ਸਾਧੂ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਖਾਪ ॥ |
| kaam krodhh lobh madh mathasar saadhhoo kai sang khaap || |
| Sexual desire, anger, greed, pride and envy are destroyed in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy. |

| ਭਗਤਿ ਵਛਲ ਭੈ ਕਾਟਨਹਾਰੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਕੇ ਮਾਈ ਬਾਪ ॥੨॥੭੭॥੧੦੦॥ |
| bhagath vashhal bhai kaattanehaarae naanak kae maaee baap ||2||77||100|| |
| He is the Lover of His devotees, the Destroyer of fear; O Nanak, He is our Mother and Father. ||2||77||100|| |

| Without the Naam, the Name of the Lord, the world is miserable. |

| ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਵਤ ਕੂਕਰੀ ਆਸਾ ਇਤੁ ਲਾਗੋ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਛਾਰ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| thripath n hovath kookaree aasaa eith laago bikhiaa shhaar ||1|| rehaao || |
| Like a dog, its desires are never satisfied; it clings to the ashes of corruption. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਪਾਇ ਠਗਉਰੀ ਆਪਿ ਭੁਲਾਇਓ ਜਨਮਤ ਬਾਰੋ ਬਾਰ ॥ |
| paae thagouree aap bhulaaeiou janamath baaro baar || |
| Administering the intoxicating drug, God Himself leads the mortals astray; they are reincarnated again and again. |

| ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਸਿਮਰਨੁ ਨਿਮਖ ਨ ਸਿਮਰਿਓ ਜਮਕੰਕਰ ਕਰਤ ਖੁਆਰ ॥੧॥ |
| har kaa simaran nimakh n simariou jamakankar karath khuaar ||1|| |
| He does not meditate in remembrance on the Lord, even for an instant, and so the Messenger of Death makes him suffer. ||1|| |

| ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਸੁ ਦਰਸੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਜਾਚੈ ਮਨ ਤਨ ਕੋ ਆਧਾਰ ॥੨॥੭੮॥੧੦੧॥ |

| Slave Nanak asks for the Blessed Vision of God. It is the Support of his mind and body. ||2||78||101|| |

| Without the Name of the Lord, the soul is polluted. |

| ਤਿਨਿ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਸਾਚੈ ਆਪਿ ਭੁਲਾਇਆ ਬਿਖੈ ਠਗਉਰੀ ਪੀਉ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| thin prabh saachai aap bhulaaeiaa bikhai thagouree peeo ||1|| rehaao || |
| The True Lord God has Himself administered the intoxicating drug of corruption, and led the mortal astray. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਕੋਟਿ ਜਨਮ ਭ੍ਰਮਤੌ ਬਹੁ ਭਾਂਤੀ ਥਿਤਿ ਨਹੀ ਕਤਹੂ ਪਾਈ ॥ |
| kott janam bhramatha bahu bhaanthee thhith nehee kathehoo paaee || |
| Wandering through millions of incarnations in countless ways, he does not find stability anywhere. |

| ਪੂਰਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸਹਜਿ ਨ ਭੇਟਿਆ ਸਾਕਤੁ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਈ ॥੧॥ |
| pooraa sathigur sehaj n bhaettiaa saakath aavai jaaee ||1|| |
| The faithless cynic does not intuitively meet with the Perfect True Guru; he continues coming and going in reincarnation. ||1|| |

| ਰਾਖਿ ਲੇਹੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸੰਮ੍ਰਿਥ ਦਾਤੇ ਤੁਮ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਅਗਮ ਅਪਾਰ ॥ |
| raakh laehu prabh sanmrithh dhaathae thum prabh agam apaar || |
| Please save me, O All-powerful Lord God, O Great Giver; O God, You are Inaccessible and Infinite. |

| To chant the Glorious Praises of the Lord is Sublime. |

| ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਧਿਆਈਐ ਪਰਮੇਸਰੁ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਸੁਆਦ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| saadhhasang dhhiaaeeai paramaesar anmrith jaa kae suaadh ||1|| rehaao || |
| In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, meditate on the Transcendent Lord God; The taste of His essence is Ambrosial Nectar. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਸਿਮਰਤ ਏਕੁ ਅਚੁਤ ਅਬਿਨਾਸੀ ਬਿਨਸੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਮਾਦ ॥ |
| simarath eaek achuth abinaasee binasae maaeiaa maadh || |
| Meditating in remembrance on the One Unmoving, Eternal, Unchanging Lord God, the intoxication of Maya wears off. |

| ਸਹਜ ਅਨਦ ਅਨਹਦ ਧੁਨਿ ਬਾਣੀ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਨ ਭਏ ਬਿਖਾਦ ॥੧॥ |
| sehaj anadh anehadh dhhun baanee bahur n bheae bikhaadh ||1|| |
| One who is blessed with intuitive peace and poise, and the vibrations of the Unstruck Celestial Bani, never suffers again. ||1|| |

| ਸਨਕਾਦਿਕ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾਦਿਕ ਗਾਵਤ ਗਾਵਤ ਸੁਕ ਪ੍ਰਹਿਲਾਦ ॥ |
| sanakaadhik brehamaadhik gaavath gaavath suk prehilaadh || |
| Even Brahma and his sons sing God's Praises; Sukdayv and Prahlaad sing His Praises as well. |

| ਪੀਵਤ ਅਮਿਉ ਮਨੋਹਰ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਜਪਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਬਿਸਮਾਦ ॥੨॥੮੦॥੧੦੩॥ |
| peevath amio manohar har ras jap naanak har bisamaadh ||2||80||103|| |
| Drinking in the fascinating Ambrosial Nectar of the Lord's sublime essence, Nanak meditates on the Amazing Lord. ||2||80||103|| |

| He commits many millions of sins. |
|
| ਦਿਨਸੁ ਰੈਨੀ ਥਕਤ ਨਾਹੀ ਕਤਹਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਛੋਟ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| dhinas rainee thhakath naahee kathehi naahee shhott ||1|| rehaao || |
| Day and night, he does not get tired of them, and he never finds release. ||1||Pause|| |
|
| ਮਹਾ ਬਜਰ ਬਿਖ ਬਿਆਧੀ ਸਿਰਿ ਉਠਾਈ ਪੋਟ ॥ |
| mehaa bajar bikh biaadhhee sir outhaaee pott || |
| He carries on his head a terrible, heavy load of sin and corruption. |

| ਉਘਰਿ ਗਈਆਂ ਖਿਨਹਿ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਜਮਹਿ ਗ੍ਰਾਸੇ ਝੋਟ ॥੧॥ |
| oughar geeaaan khinehi bheethar jamehi graasae jhott ||1|| |
| In an instant, he is exposed. The Messenger of Death seizes him by his hair. ||1|| |
|
| ਪਸੁ ਪਰੇਤ ਉਸਟ ਗਰਧਭ ਅਨਿਕ ਜੋਨੀ ਲੇਟ ॥ |
| pas paraeth ousatt garadhhabh anik jonee laett || |
| He is consigned to countless forms of reincarnation, into beasts, ghosts, camels and donkeys. |

| ਭਜੁ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਨਾਨਕ ਕਛੁ ਨ ਲਾਗੈ ਫੇਟ ॥੨॥੮੧॥੧੦੪॥ |
| bhaj saadhhasang gobindh naanak kashh n laagai faett ||2||81||104|| |
| Vibrating and meditating on the Lord of the Universe in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, O Nanak, you shall never be struck or harmed at all. ||2||81||104|| |

| He is so blind! He is eating loads of poison. |

| ਨੈਨ ਸ੍ਰਵਨ ਸਰੀਰੁ ਸਭੁ ਹੁਟਿਓ ਸਾਸੁ ਗਇਓ ਤਤ ਘਾਟ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| nain sravan sareer sabh huttiou saas gaeiou thath ghaatt ||1|| rehaao || |
| His eyes, ears and body are totally exhausted; he shall lose his breath in an instant. ||1||Pause|| |
|
| ਅਨਾਥ ਰਞਾਣਿ ਉਦਰੁ ਲੇ ਪੋਖਹਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਗਈਆ ਹਾਟਿ ॥ |
| anaathh ranjaan oudhar lae pokhehi maaeiaa geeaa haatt || |
| Making the poor suffer, he fills his belly, but the wealth of Maya shall not go with him. |

| ਕਿਲਬਿਖ ਕਰਤ ਕਰਤ ਪਛੁਤਾਵਹਿ ਕਬਹੁ ਨ ਸਾਕਹਿ ਛਾਂਟਿ ॥੧॥ |
| kilabikh karath karath pashhuthaavehi kabahu n saakehi shhaantt ||1|| |
| Committing sinful mistakes again and again, he regrets and repents, but he can never give them up. ||1|| |
|
| ਨਿੰਦਕੁ ਜਮਦੂਤੀ ਆਇ ਸੰਘਾਰਿਓ ਦੇਵਹਿ ਮੂੰਡ ਉਪਰਿ ਮਟਾਕ ॥ |
| nindhak jamadhoothee aae sanghaariou dhaevehi moondd oupar mattaak || |
| The Messenger of Death comes to slaughter the slanderer; he beats him on his head. |

| ਨਾਨਕ ਆਪਨ ਕਟਾਰੀ ਆਪਸ ਕਉ ਲਾਈ ਮਨੁ ਅਪਨਾ ਕੀਨੋ ਫਾਟ ॥੨॥੮੨॥੧੦੫॥ |
| naanak aapan kattaaree aapas ko laaee man apanaa keeno faatt ||2||82||105|| |
| O Nanak, he cuts himself with his own dagger, and damages his own mind. ||2||82||105|| |
