| ਹਰਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਤੇਰੋ ਕੋ ਨ ਸਹਾਈ ॥ |
| har bin thaero ko n sehaaee || |
| No one will be your help and support, except the Lord. |

| ਕਾਂ ਕੀ ਮਾਤ ਪਿਤਾ ਸੁਤ ਬਨਿਤਾ ਕੋ ਕਾਹੂ ਕੋ ਭਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| kaan kee maath pithaa suth banithaa ko kaahoo ko bhaaee ||1|| rehaao || |
| Who has any mother, father, child or spouse? Who is anyone's brother or sister? ||1||Pause|| |
|
| ਧਨੁ ਧਰਨੀ ਅਰੁ ਸੰਪਤਿ ਸਗਰੀ ਜੋ ਮਾਨਿਓ ਅਪਨਾਈ ॥ |
| dhhan dhharanee ar sanpath sagaree jo maaniou apanaaee || |
| All the wealth, land and property which you consider your own |
|
| ਤਨ ਛੂਟੈ ਕਛੁ ਸੰਗਿ ਨ ਚਾਲੈ ਕਹਾ ਤਾਹਿ ਲਪਟਾਈ ॥੧॥ |
| than shhoottai kashh sang n chaalai kehaa thaahi lapattaaee ||1|| |
| - when you leave your body, none of it shall go along with you. Why do you cling to them? ||1|| |
|
| ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆਲ ਸਦਾ ਦੁਖ ਭੰਜਨ ਤਾ ਸਿਉ ਰੁਚਿ ਨ ਬਢਾਈ ॥ |
| dheen dhaeiaal sadhaa dhukh bhanjan thaa sio ruch n badtaaee || |
| God is Merciful to the meek, forever the Destroyer of fear, and yet you do not develop any loving relationship with Him. |

| ਨਾਨਕ ਕਹਤ ਜਗਤ ਸਭ ਮਿਥਿਆ ਜਿਉ ਸੁਪਨਾ ਰੈਨਾਈ ॥੨॥੧॥ |
| naanak kehath jagath sabh mithhiaa jio supanaa rainaaee ||2||1|| |
| Says Nanak, the whole world is totally false; it is like a dream in the night. ||2||1|| |

| ਕਹਾ ਮਨ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਸਿਉ ਲਪਟਾਹੀ ॥ |
| kehaa man bikhiaa sio lapattaahee || |
| O mortal, why are you engrossed in corruption? |
|
| ਯਾ ਜਗ ਮਹਿ ਕੋਊ ਰਹਨੁ ਨ ਪਾਵੈ ਇਕਿ ਆਵਹਿ ਇਕਿ ਜਾਹੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| yaa jag mehi kooo rehan n paavai eik aavehi eik jaahee ||1|| rehaao || |
| No one is allowed to remain in this world; one comes, and another departs. ||1||Pause|| |
|
| ਕਾਂ ਕੋ ਤਨੁ ਧਨੁ ਸੰਪਤਿ ਕਾਂ ਕੀ ਕਾ ਸਿਉ ਨੇਹੁ ਲਗਾਹੀ ॥ |
| kaan ko than dhhan sanpath kaan kee kaa sio naehu lagaahee || |
| Who has a body? Who has wealth and property? With whom should we fall in love? |
|
| ਜੋ ਦੀਸੈ ਸੋ ਸਗਲ ਬਿਨਾਸੈ ਜਿਉ ਬਾਦਰ ਕੀ ਛਾਹੀ ॥੧॥ |
| jo dheesai so sagal binaasai jio baadhar kee shhaahee ||1|| |
| Whatever is seen, shall all disappear, like the shade of a passing cloud. ||1|| |
|
| ਤਜਿ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ਸਰਣਿ ਸੰਤਨ ਗਹੁ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਹੋਹਿ ਛਿਨ ਮਾਹੀ ॥ |
| thaj abhimaan saran santhan gahu mukath hohi shhin maahee || |
| Abandon egotism, and grasp the Sanctuary of the Saints; you shall be liberated in an instant. |
|
| ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਭਗਵੰਤ ਭਜਨ ਬਿਨੁ ਸੁਖੁ ਸੁਪਨੈ ਭੀ ਨਾਹੀ ॥੨॥੨॥ |
| jan naanak bhagavanth bhajan bin sukh supanai bhee naahee ||2||2|| |
| O servant Nanak, without meditating and vibrating on the Lord God, there is no peace, even in dreams. ||2||2|| |

| ਕਹਾ ਨਰ ਅਪਨੋ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਵੈ ॥ |
| kehaa nar apano janam gavaavai || |
| O mortal, why have you wasted your life? |
|
| ਮਾਇਆ ਮਦਿ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਰਸਿ ਰਚਿਓ ਰਾਮ ਸਰਨਿ ਨਹੀ ਆਵੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| maaeiaa madh bikhiaa ras rachiou raam saran nehee aavai ||1|| rehaao || |
| Intoxicated with Maya and its riches, involved in corrupt pleasures, you have not sought the Sanctuary of the Lord. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਇਹੁ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ਸਗਲ ਹੈ ਸੁਪਨੋ ਦੇਖਿ ਕਹਾ ਲੋਭਾਵੈ ॥ |
| eihu sansaar sagal hai supano dhaekh kehaa lobhaavai || |
| This whole world is just a dream; why does seeing it fill you with greed? |
|
| ਜੋ ਉਪਜੈ ਸੋ ਸਗਲ ਬਿਨਾਸੈ ਰਹਨੁ ਨ ਕੋਊ ਪਾਵੈ ॥੧॥ |
| jo oupajai so sagal binaasai rehan n kooo paavai ||1|| |
| Everything that has been created will be destroyed; nothing will remain. ||1|| |
|
| ਮਿਥਿਆ ਤਨੁ ਸਾਚੋ ਕਰਿ ਮਾਨਿਓ ਇਹ ਬਿਧਿ ਆਪੁ ਬੰਧਾਵੈ ॥ |
| mithhiaa than saacho kar maaniou eih bidhh aap bandhhaavai || |
| You see this false body as true; in this way, you have placed yourself in bondage. |

| ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਸੋਊ ਜਨੁ ਮੁਕਤਾ ਰਾਮ ਭਜਨ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਵੈ ॥੨॥੩॥ |
| jan naanak sooo jan mukathaa raam bhajan chith laavai ||2||3|| |
| O servant Nanak, he is a liberated being, whose consciousness lovingly vibrates, and meditates on the Lord. ||2||3|| |

| ਬਿਖਿਆਸਕਤ ਰਹਿਓ ਨਿਸਿ ਬਾਸੁਰ ਕੀਨੋ ਅਪਨੋ ਭਾਇਓ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| bikhiaasakath rehiou nis baasur keeno apano bhaaeiou ||1|| rehaao || |
| I remained under the influence of corruption, night and day; I did whatever I pleased. ||1||Pause|| |
|
| ਗੁਰ ਉਪਦੇਸੁ ਸੁਨਿਓ ਨਹਿ ਕਾਨਨਿ ਪਰ ਦਾਰਾ ਲਪਟਾਇਓ ॥ |
| gur oupadhaes suniou nehi kaanan par dhaaraa lapattaaeiou || |
| I never listened to the Guru's Teachings; I was entangled with others' spouses. |
|
| ਪਰ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਕਾਰਨਿ ਬਹੁ ਧਾਵਤ ਸਮਝਿਓ ਨਹ ਸਮਝਾਇਓ ॥੧॥ |
| par nindhaa kaaran bahu dhhaavath samajhiou neh samajhaaeiou ||1|| |
| I ran all around slandering others; I was taught, but I never learned. ||1|| |
|
| ਕਹਾ ਕਹਉ ਮੈ ਅਪੁਨੀ ਕਰਨੀ ਜਿਹ ਬਿਧਿ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਇਓ ॥ |
| kehaa keho mai apunee karanee jih bidhh janam gavaaeiou || |
| How can I even describe my actions? This is how I wasted my life. |

| How can I live, O my mother? |

| ਜੈ ਜਗਦੀਸ ਤੇਰਾ ਜਸੁ ਜਾਚਉ ਮੈ ਹਰਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਰਹਨੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| jai jagadhees thaeraa jas jaacho mai har bin rehan n jaaee ||1|| rehaao || |
| Hail to the Lord of the Universe. I ask to sing Your Praises; without You, O Lord, I cannot even survive. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਪਿਆਸ ਪਿਆਸੀ ਕਾਮਨਿ ਦੇਖਉ ਰੈਨਿ ਸਬਾਈ ॥ |
| har kee piaas piaasee kaaman dhaekho rain sabaaee || |
| I am thirsty, thirsty for the Lord; the soul-bride gazes upon Him all through the night. |

| ਸ੍ਰੀਧਰ ਨਾਥ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨੁ ਲੀਨਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਜਾਨੈ ਪੀਰ ਪਰਾਈ ॥੧॥ |
| sreedhhar naathh maeraa man leenaa prabh jaanai peer paraaee ||1|| |
| My mind is absorbed into the Lord, my Lord and Master. Only God knows the pain of another. ||1|| |

| ਗਣਤ ਸਰੀਰਿ ਪੀਰ ਹੈ ਹਰਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਂਈ ॥ |
| ganath sareer peer hai har bin gur sabadhee har paanee || |
| My body suffers in pain, without the Lord; through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, I find the Lord. |

| ਹੋਹੁ ਦਇਆਲ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਉ ਰਹਾਂ ਸਮਾਈ ॥੨॥ |
| hohu dhaeiaal kirapaa kar har jeeo har sio rehaan samaaee ||2|| |
| O Dear Lord, please be kind and compassionate to me, that I might remain merged in You, O Lord. ||2|| |

| ਐਸੀ ਰਵਤ ਰਵਹੁ ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਚਰਣੀ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਈ ॥ |
| aisee ravath ravahu man maerae har charanee chith laaee || |
| Follow such a path, O my conscious mind, that you may remain focused on the Feet of the Lord. |

| ਬਿਸਮ ਭਏ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇ ਮਨੋਹਰ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਈ ॥੩॥ |
| bisam bheae gun gaae manohar nirabho sehaj samaaee ||3|| |
| I am wonder-struck, singing the Glorious Praises of my Fascinating Lord; I am intuitively absorbed in the Fearless Lord. ||3|| |
|
| ਹਿਰਦੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਦਾ ਧੁਨਿ ਨਿਹਚਲ ਘਟੈ ਨ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਪਾਈ ॥ |
| hiradhai naam sadhaa dhhun nihachal ghattai n keemath paaee || |
| That heart, in which the Eternal, Unchanging Naam vibrates and resounds, does not diminish, and cannot be evaluated. |
|
| ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਈ ਨਿਰਧਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਬੂਝ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥੪॥ |
| bin naavai sabh koee niradhhan sathigur boojh bujhaaee ||4|| |
| Without the Name, everyone is poor; the True Guru has imparted this understanding. ||4|| |
|
| ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਭਏ ਸੁਨਿ ਸਜਨੀ ਦੂਤ ਮੁਏ ਬਿਖੁ ਖਾਈ ॥ |
| preetham praan bheae sun sajanee dhooth mueae bikh khaaee || |
| My Beloved is my breath of life - listen, O my companion. The demons have taken poison and died. |

| ਜਬ ਕੀ ਉਪਜੀ ਤਬ ਕੀ ਤੈਸੀ ਰੰਗੁਲ ਭਈ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਈ ॥੫॥ |
| jab kee oupajee thab kee thaisee rangul bhee man bhaaee ||5|| |
| As love for Him welled up, so it remains. My mind is imbued with His Love. ||5|| |

| ਸਹਜ ਸਮਾਧਿ ਸਦਾ ਲਿਵ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਉ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਈ ॥ |
| sehaj samaadhh sadhaa liv har sio jeevaan har gun gaaee || |
| I am absorbed in celestial samaadhi, lovingly attached to the Lord forever. I live by singing the Glorious Praises of the Lord. |

| ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਰਤਾ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਤਾੜੀ ਲਾਈ ॥੬॥ |
| gur kai sabadh rathaa bairaagee nij ghar thaarree laaee ||6|| |
| Imbued with the Word of the Guru's Shabad, I have become detached from the world. In the profound primal trance, I dwell within the home of my own inner being. ||6|| |
|
| ਸੁਧ ਰਸ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਹਾ ਰਸੁ ਮੀਠਾ ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਤਤੁ ਗੁਸਾਂਈਂ ॥ |
| sudhh ras naam mehaa ras meethaa nij ghar thath gusaaneen || |
| The Naam, the Name of the Lord, is sublimely sweet and supremely delicious; within the home of my own self, I understand the essence of the Lord. |

| ਤਹ ਹੀ ਮਨੁ ਜਹ ਹੀ ਤੈ ਰਾਖਿਆ ਐਸੀ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਪਾਈ ॥੭॥ |
| theh hee man jeh hee thai raakhiaa aisee guramath paaee ||7|| |
| Wherever You keep my mind, there it is. This is what the Guru has taught me. ||7|| |

| ਸਨਕ ਸਨਾਦਿ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾਦਿ ਇੰਦ੍ਰਾਦਿਕ ਭਗਤਿ ਰਤੇ ਬਨਿ ਆਈ ॥ |
| sanak sanaadh brehamaadh eindhraadhik bhagath rathae ban aaee || |
| Sanak and Sanandan, Brahma and Indra, were imbued with devotional worship, and came to be in harmony with Him. |

| ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਘਰੀ ਨ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਡਾਈ ॥੮॥੧॥ |
| naanak har bin gharee n jeevaan har kaa naam vaddaaee ||8||1|| |
| O Nanak, without the Lord, I cannot live, even for an instant. The Name of the Lord is glorious and great. ||8||1|| |

| ਕੋਟਿ ਕਲਪ ਕੇ ਦੂਖ ਬਿਨਾਸਨ ਸਾਚੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਇ ਨਿਬੇਰਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| kott kalap kae dhookh binaasan saach dhrirraae nibaeraa ||1|| rehaao || |
| The guilt and sin of millions of ages is erased, and one is released from the cycle of reincarnation, when the Truth is implanted within. ||1||Pause|| |
