| O mortal, why are you going into the forest of corruption? |

| You have been misled into eating the toxic drug. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਜੈਸੇ ਮੀਨੁ ਪਾਨੀ ਮਹਿ ਰਹੈ ॥ |
| jaisae meen paanee mehi rehai || |
| You are like a fish living in the water; |
|
| ਕਾਲ ਜਾਲ ਕੀ ਸੁਧਿ ਨਹੀ ਲਹੈ ॥ |
| kaal jaal kee sudhh nehee lehai || |
| you do not see the net of death. |
|
| ਜਿਹਬਾ ਸੁਆਦੀ ਲੀਲਿਤ ਲੋਹ ॥ |
| jihabaa suaadhee leelith loh || |
| Trying to taste the flavor, you swallow the hook. |
|
| ਐਸੇ ਕਨਿਕ ਕਾਮਨੀ ਬਾਧਿਓ ਮੋਹ ॥੧॥ |
| aisae kanik kaamanee baadhhiou moh ||1|| |
| You are bound by attachment to wealth and woman. ||1|| |
|
| ਜਿਉ ਮਧੁ ਮਾਖੀ ਸੰਚੈ ਅਪਾਰ ॥ |
| jio madhh maakhee sanchai apaar || |
| The bee stores up loads of honey; |
|
| ਮਧੁ ਲੀਨੋ ਮੁਖਿ ਦੀਨੀ ਛਾਰੁ ॥ |
| madhh leeno mukh dheenee shhaar || |
| then someone comes and takes the honey, and throws dust in its mouth. |
|
| ਗਊ ਬਾਛ ਕਉ ਸੰਚੈ ਖੀਰੁ ॥ |
| goo baashh ko sanchai kheer || |
| The cow stores up loads of milk; |
|
| ਗਲਾ ਬਾਂਧਿ ਦੁਹਿ ਲੇਇ ਅਹੀਰੁ ॥੨॥ |
| galaa baandhh dhuhi laee aheer ||2|| |
| then the milkman comes and ties it by its neck and milks it. ||2|| |
|
| ਮਾਇਆ ਕਾਰਨਿ ਸ੍ਰਮੁ ਅਤਿ ਕਰੈ ॥ |
| maaeiaa kaaran sram ath karai || |
| For the sake of Maya, the mortal works very hard. |
|
| ਸੋ ਮਾਇਆ ਲੈ ਗਾਡੈ ਧਰੈ ॥ |
| so maaeiaa lai gaaddai dhharai || |
| He takes the wealth of Maya, and buries it in the ground. |
|
| ਅਤਿ ਸੰਚੈ ਸਮਝੈ ਨਹੀ ਮੂੜ੍ਹ੍ਹ ॥ |
| ath sanchai samajhai nehee moorrh || |
| He acquires so much, but the fool does not appreciate it. |
|
| ਧਨੁ ਧਰਤੀ ਤਨੁ ਹੋਇ ਗਇਓ ਧੂੜਿ ॥੩॥ |
| dhhan dhharathee than hoe gaeiou dhhoorr ||3|| |
| His wealth remains buried in the ground, while his body turns to dust. ||3|| |
|
| ਕਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਅਤਿ ਜਰੈ ॥ |
| kaam krodhh thrisanaa ath jarai || |
| He burns in tremendous sexual desire, unresolved anger and desire. |
|
| ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਕਬਹੂ ਨਹੀ ਕਰੈ ॥ |
| saadhhasangath kabehoo nehee karai || |
| He never joins the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy. |
|
| ਕਹਤ ਨਾਮਦੇਉ ਤਾ ਚੀ ਆਣਿ ॥ |
| kehath naamadhaeo thaa chee aan || |
| Says Naam Dayv, seek God's Shelter; |
|
| ਨਿਰਭੈ ਹੋਇ ਭਜੀਐ ਭਗਵਾਨ ॥੪॥੧॥ |
| nirabhai hoe bhajeeai bhagavaan ||4||1|| |
| be fearless, and vibrate on the Lord God. ||4||1|| |

| ਬਦਹੁ ਕੀ ਨ ਹੋਡ ਮਾਧਉ ਮੋ ਸਿਉ ॥ |
| badhahu kee n hodd maadhho mo sio || |
| Why not make a bet with me, O Lord of Wealth? |

| ਠਾਕੁਰ ਤੇ ਜਨੁ ਜਨ ਤੇ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਖੇਲੁ ਪਰਿਓ ਹੈ ਤੋ ਸਿਉ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| thaakur thae jan jan thae thaakur khael pariou hai tho sio ||1|| rehaao || |
| From the master comes the servant, and from the servant, comes the master. This is the game I play with You. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਆਪਨ ਦੇਉ ਦੇਹੁਰਾ ਆਪਨ ਆਪ ਲਗਾਵੈ ਪੂਜਾ ॥ |
| aapan dhaeo dhaehuraa aapan aap lagaavai poojaa || |
| You Yourself are the deity, and You are the temple of worship. You are the devoted worshipper. |

| ਜਲ ਤੇ ਤਰੰਗ ਤਰੰਗ ਤੇ ਹੈ ਜਲੁ ਕਹਨ ਸੁਨਨ ਕਉ ਦੂਜਾ ॥੧॥ |
| jal thae tharang tharang thae hai jal kehan sunan ko dhoojaa ||1|| |
| From the water, the waves rise up, and from the waves, the water. They are only different by figures of speech. ||1|| |
|
| ਆਪਹਿ ਗਾਵੈ ਆਪਹਿ ਨਾਚੈ ਆਪਿ ਬਜਾਵੈ ਤੂਰਾ ॥ |
| aapehi gaavai aapehi naachai aap bajaavai thooraa || |
| You Yourself sing, and You Yourself dance. You Yourself blow the bugle. |

| ਕਹਤ ਨਾਮਦੇਉ ਤੂੰ ਮੇਰੋ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਜਨੁ ਊਰਾ ਤੂ ਪੂਰਾ ॥੨॥੨॥ |

| Says Naam Dayv, You are my Lord and Master. Your humble servant is imperfect; You are perfect. ||2||2|| |

| dhaas aninn maero nij roop || |
| Says God: my slave is devoted only to me; he is in my very image. |

| ਦਰਸਨ ਨਿਮਖ ਤਾਪ ਤ੍ਰਈ ਮੋਚਨ ਪਰਸਤ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਕਰਤ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਕੂਪ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| dharasan nimakh thaap three mochan parasath mukath karath grih koop ||1|| rehaao || |
| The sight of him, even for an instant, cures the three fevers; his touch brings liberation from the deep dark pit of household affairs. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਏਕ ਸਮੈ ਮੋ ਕਉ ਗਹਿ ਬਾਂਧੈ ਤਉ ਫੁਨਿ ਮੋ ਪੈ ਜਬਾਬੁ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥੧॥ |
| eaek samai mo ko gehi baandhhai tho fun mo pai jabaab n hoe ||1|| |
| If, at any time, he grabs and binds me, even then, I cannot protest. ||1|| |

| ਮੈ ਗੁਨ ਬੰਧ ਸਗਲ ਕੀ ਜੀਵਨਿ ਮੇਰੀ ਜੀਵਨਿ ਮੇਰੇ ਦਾਸ ॥ |
| mai gun bandhh sagal kee jeevan maeree jeevan maerae dhaas || |
| I am bound by virtue; I am the Life of all. My slaves are my very life. |

| ਨਾਮਦੇਵ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਜੀਅ ਐਸੀ ਤੈਸੋ ਤਾ ਕੈ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸ ॥੨॥੩॥ |

| anapaavanee bhagath nehee oupajee bhookhai dhaan n dheenaa ||1|| rehaao || |
| Faithful devotion has not welled up within you, and you have not been inspired to give to the hungry. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਕਾਮੁ ਨ ਬਿਸਰਿਓ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਨ ਬਿਸਰਿਓ ਲੋਭੁ ਨ ਛੂਟਿਓ ਦੇਵਾ ॥ |
| kaam n bisariou krodhh n bisariou lobh n shhoottiou dhaevaa || |
| You have not forgotten sexual desire, and you have not forgotten anger; greed has not left you either. |

| ਪਰ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਮੁਖ ਤੇ ਨਹੀ ਛੂਟੀ ਨਿਫਲ ਭਈ ਸਭ ਸੇਵਾ ॥੧॥ |
| par nindhaa mukh thae nehee shhoottee nifal bhee sabh saevaa ||1|| |
| Your mouth has not stopped slandering and gossiping about others. Your service is useless and fruitless. ||1|| |
|
| ਬਾਟ ਪਾਰਿ ਘਰੁ ਮੂਸਿ ਬਿਰਾਨੋ ਪੇਟੁ ਭਰੈ ਅਪ੍ਰਾਧੀ ॥ |
| baatt paar ghar moos biraano paett bharai apraadhhee || |
| By breaking into the houses of others and robbing them, you fill your belly, you sinner. |

| ਜਿਹਿ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਜਾਇ ਅਪਕੀਰਤਿ ਸੋਈ ਅਬਿਦਿਆ ਸਾਧੀ ॥੨॥ |
| jihi paralok jaae apakeerath soee abidhiaa saadhhee ||2|| |
| But when you go to the world beyond, your guilt will be well known, by the acts of ignorance which you committed. ||2|| |
|
| ਹਿੰਸਾ ਤਉ ਮਨ ਤੇ ਨਹੀ ਛੂਟੀ ਜੀਅ ਦਇਆ ਨਹੀ ਪਾਲੀ ॥ |
| hinsaa tho man thae nehee shhoottee jeea dhaeiaa nehee paalee || |
| Cruelty has not left your mind; you have not cherished kindness for other living beings. |

| ਪਰਮਾਨੰਦ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਕਥਾ ਪੁਨੀਤ ਨ ਚਾਲੀ ॥੩॥੧॥੬॥ |
| paramaanandh saadhhasangath mil kathhaa puneeth n chaalee ||3||1||6|| |
| Parmaanand has joined the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy. Why have you not followed the sacred teachings? ||3||1||6|| |

| O mind, do not even associate with those who have turned their backs on the Lord. |

| than man arap sarabas sabh arapiou anadh sehaj dhhun jhok ||1|| rehaao || |
| They dedicate their minds and bodies to Him; they dedicate everything to Him. They are intoxicated with the celestial melody of intuitive ecstasy. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਦਰਸਨੁ ਪੇਖਿ ਭਏ ਨਿਰਬਿਖਈ ਪਾਏ ਹੈ ਸਗਲੇ ਥੋਕ ॥ |
| dharasan paekh bheae nirabikhee paaeae hai sagalae thhok || |
| Gazing upon the Blessed Vision of the Lord's Darshan, they are cleansed of corruption. They obtain absolutely everything. |

| ਆਨ ਬਸਤੁ ਸਿਉ ਕਾਜੁ ਨ ਕਛੂਐ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਬਦਨ ਅਲੋਕ ॥੧॥ |
| aan basath sio kaaj n kashhooai sundhar badhan alok ||1|| |
| They have nothing to do with anything else; they gaze on the beauteous Face of God. ||1|| |
|
| ਸਿਆਮ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਤਜਿ ਆਨ ਜੁ ਚਾਹਤ ਜਿਉ ਕੁਸਟੀ ਤਨਿ ਜੋਕ ॥ |
| siaam sundhar thaj aan j chaahath jio kusattee than jok || |
| But one who forsakes the elegantly beautiful Lord, and harbors desire for anything else, is like a leech on the body of a leper. |

| ਸੂਰਦਾਸ ਮਨੁ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਹਥਿ ਲੀਨੋ ਦੀਨੋ ਇਹੁ ਪਰਲੋਕ ॥੨॥੧॥੮॥ |
| sooradhaas man prabh hathh leeno dheeno eihu paralok ||2||1||8|| |
