| Hail to the Lord of the Universe, God, our Saving Grace; He judges and saves the mortal beings. |

| jaethee hai thaethee thujh hee thae thumh sar avar n koee ||2|| |
| All that is, belongs to You. No one else is equal to You. ||2|| |

| ਜੀਅ ਉਪਾਇ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਵਸਿ ਕੀਨੀ ਆਪੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਅੰਜਨੁ ॥ |
| jeea oupaae jugath vas keenee aapae guramukh anjan || |
| Creating all beings and creatures, their ways and means are under Your control; You bless the Gurmukhs with the ointment of spiritual wisdom. |

| ਕਾਗਦ ਕੋਟੁ ਇਹੁ ਜਗੁ ਹੈ ਬਪੁਰੋ ਰੰਗਨਿ ਚਿਹਨ ਚਤੁਰਾਈ ॥ |
| kaagadh kott eihu jag hai bapuro rangan chihan chathuraaee || |
| This wretched world is a fortress of paper, of color and form and clever tricks. |

| ਨਾਨ੍ਹ੍ਹੀ ਸੀ ਬੂੰਦ ਪਵਨੁ ਪਤਿ ਖੋਵੈ ਜਨਮਿ ਮਰੈ ਖਿਨੁ ਤਾੲਂੀ ॥੪॥ |
| naanhee see boondh pavan path khovai janam marai khin thaaeanaee ||4|| |
| A tiny drop of water or a little puff of wind destroys its glory; in an instant, its life is ended. ||4|| |

| ਨਦੀ ਉਪਕੰਠਿ ਜੈਸੇ ਘਰੁ ਤਰਵਰੁ ਸਰਪਨਿ ਘਰੁ ਘਰ ਮਾਹੀ ॥ |
| nadhee oupakanth jaisae ghar tharavar sarapan ghar ghar maahee || |
| It is like a tree-house near the bank of a river, with a serpent's den in that house. |

| ਉਲਟੀ ਨਦੀ ਕਹਾਂ ਘਰੁ ਤਰਵਰੁ ਸਰਪਨਿ ਡਸੈ ਦੂਜਾ ਮਨ ਮਾਂਹੀ ॥੫॥ |
| oulattee nadhee kehaan ghar tharavar sarapan ddasai dhoojaa man maanhee ||5|| |
| When the river overflows, what happens to the tree house? The snake bites, like duality in the mind. ||5|| |

| ਗਾਰੁੜ ਗੁਰ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਧਿਆਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਬਚਨੀ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਜਾਰੀ ॥ |
| gaarurr gur giaan dhhiaan gur bachanee bikhiaa guramath jaaree || |
| Through the magic spell of the Guru's spiritual wisdom, and meditation on the Word of the Guru's Teachings, vice and corruption are burnt away. |

| ਮਨ ਤਨ ਹੇਂਵ ਭਏ ਸਚੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਭਗਤਿ ਨਿਰਾਰੀ ॥੬॥ |
| man than haenav bheae sach paaeiaa har kee bhagath niraaree ||6|| |
| The mind and body are cooled and soothed and Truth is obtained, through the wondrous and unique devotional worship of the Lord. ||6|| |

| ਜੇਤੀ ਹੈ ਤੇਤੀ ਤੁਧੁ ਜਾਚੈ ਤੂ ਸਰਬ ਜੀਆਂ ਦਇਆਲਾ ॥ |
| jaethee hai thaethee thudhh jaachai thoo sarab jeeaaan dhaeiaalaa || |
| All that exists begs of You; You are merciful to all beings. |

| ਤੁਮ੍ਹ੍ਹਰੀ ਸਰਣਿ ਪਰੇ ਪਤਿ ਰਾਖਹੁ ਸਾਚੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਗੋਪਾਲਾ ॥੭॥ |
| thumharee saran parae path raakhahu saach milai gopaalaa ||7|| |
| I seek Your Sanctuary; please save my honor, O Lord of the World, and bless me with Truth. ||7|| |

| ਬਾਧੀ ਧੰਧਿ ਅੰਧ ਨਹੀ ਸੂਝੈ ਬਧਿਕ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਵੈ ॥ |
| baadhhee dhhandhh andhh nehee soojhai badhhik karam kamaavai || |
| Bound in worldly affairs and entanglements, the blind one does not understand; he acts like a murderous butcher. |

| ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਮਿਲੈ ਤ ਸੂਝਸਿ ਬੂਝਸਿ ਸਚ ਮਨਿ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਸਮਾਵੈ ॥੮॥ |
| sathigur milai th soojhas boojhas sach man giaan samaavai ||8|| |
| But if he meets with the True Guru, then he comprehends and understands, and his mind is imbued with true spiritual wisdom. ||8|| |

| ਨਿਰਗੁਣ ਦੇਹ ਸਾਚ ਬਿਨੁ ਕਾਚੀ ਮੈ ਪੂਛਉ ਗੁਰੁ ਅਪਨਾ ॥ |
| niragun dhaeh saach bin kaachee mai pooshho gur apanaa || |
| Without the Truth, this worthless body is false; I have consulted my Guru on this. |

| O my Beloved, my love for You shall never end, if it is Your Will. ||2|| |

| Sleep is gone, and egotism is exhausted from my body; my heart is permeated with the Teachings of Truth. ||3|| |

| rookhanaee birakhanaee ooddo bhookhaa peevaa naam subhaaee ||4|| |
| Flying among the trees and plants, I remain hungry; lovingly drinking in the Naam, the Name of the Lord, I am satisfied. ||4|| |

| I stare at You, and my tongue cries out to You; I am so thirsty for the Blessed Vision of Your Darshan. ||5|| |

| pria bin seegaar karee thaethaa than thaapai kaapar ang n suhaaee ||6|| |
| Without my Beloved, the more I decorate myself, the more my body burns; these clothes do not look good on my body. ||6|| |

| ਅਪਨੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਬਿਨੁ ਇਕੁ ਖਿਨੁ ਰਹਿ ਨ ਸਕਂਉ ਬਿਨ ਮਿਲੇ ਨਂੀਦ ਨ ਪਾਈ ॥੭॥ |
| apanae piaarae bin eik khin rehi n sakano bin milae nanaeedh n paaee ||7|| |
| Without my Beloved, I cannot survive even for an instant; without meeting Him, I cannot sleep. ||7|| |

| ਪਿਰੁ ਨਜੀਕਿ ਨ ਬੂਝੈ ਬਪੁੜੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਦੀਆ ਦਿਖਾਈ ॥੮॥ |
| pir najeek n boojhai bapurree sathigur dheeaa dhikhaaee ||8|| |
| Her Husband Lord is nearby, but the wretched bride does not know it. The True Guru reveals Him to her. ||8|| |

| ਸਹਜਿ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਤਬ ਹੀ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਸਬਦਿ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥੯॥ |
| sehaj miliaa thab hee sukh paaeiaa thrisanaa sabadh bujhaaee ||9|| |
| When she meets Him with intuitive ease, she finds peace; the Word of the Shabad quenches the fire of desire. ||9|| |

| the lofty mountains and the caverns of the underworld. |

| Contemplating the Word of the Guru's Shabad, the oceans become calm. |

| The path of liberation is found by subduing the ego. ||1|| |

| I am blind; I seek the Light of the Name. |

| Through the Shabad, the Word of the True Guru, the Path is known. |

| With the Guru's Support, one is blessed with the strength of the True Lord. |

| Dwell on the Naam, and realize the Beauteous Word of His Bani. |

| If it is Your Will, Lord, You lead me to find Your Door. ||2|| |

| Flying high or sitting down, I am lovingly focused on the One Lord. |

| Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, I take the Naam as my Suppport. |

| ਨਾ ਜਲੁ ਡੂੰਗਰੁ ਨ ਊਚੀ ਧਾਰ ॥ |
| naa jal ddoongar n oochee dhhaar || |
| There is no ocean of water, no mountain ranges rising up. |

| ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਵਾਸਾ ਤਹ ਮਗੁ ਨ ਚਾਲਣਹਾਰ ॥੩॥ |
| nij ghar vaasaa theh mag n chaalanehaar ||3|| |
| I dwell within the home of my own inner being, where there is no path and no one travelling on it. ||3|| |

| ਜਿਤੁ ਘਰਿ ਵਸਹਿ ਤੂਹੈ ਬਿਧਿ ਜਾਣਹਿ ਬੀਜਉ ਮਹਲੁ ਨ ਜਾਪੈ ॥ |
| jith ghar vasehi thoohai bidhh jaanehi beejo mehal n jaapai || |
| You alone know the way to that House in which You dwell. No one else knows the Mansion of Your Presence. |

| ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਬਾਝਹੁ ਸਮਝ ਨ ਹੋਵੀ ਸਭੁ ਜਗੁ ਦਬਿਆ ਛਾਪੈ ॥ |

| Without the True Guru, there is no understanding. The whole world is buried under its nightmare. |

| ਕਰਣ ਪਲਾਵ ਕਰੈ ਬਿਲਲਾਤਉ ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਜਾਪੈ ॥ |
| karan palaav karai bilalaatho bin gur naam n jaapai || |
| The mortal tries all sorts of things, and weeps and wails, but without the Guru, he does not know the Naam, the Name of the Lord. |

| ਪਲ ਪੰਕਜ ਮਹਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਛਡਾਏ ਜੇ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੁ ਸਿਞਾਪੈ ॥੪॥ |
| pal pankaj mehi naam shhaddaaeae jae gur sabadh sinjaapai ||4|| |
| In the twinkling of an eye, the Naam saves him, if he realizes the Word of the Guru's Shabad. ||4|| |

| ਇਕਿ ਮੂਰਖ ਅੰਧੇ ਮੁਗਧ ਗਵਾਰ ॥ |
| eik moorakh andhhae mugadhh gavaar || |
| Some are foolish, blind, stupid and ignorant. |

| ਇਕਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਭੈ ਨਾਮ ਅਧਾਰ ॥ |
| eik sathigur kai bhai naam adhhaar || |
| Some, through fear of the True Guru, take the Support of the Naam. |

| ਸਾਚੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਮੀਠੀ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਧਾਰ ॥ |
| saachee baanee meethee anmrith dhhaar || |
| The True Word of His Bani is sweet, the source of ambrosial nectar. |
