| ਜਿਸੁ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਨਰਾਇਣੋ ਸੋ ਕਹੀਐ ਭਗਵੰਤੁ ॥ |
| jis man vasai naraaeino so keheeai bhagavanth || |
| That one, within whose mind the Lord abides, is said to be most fortunate. |

| ਜੀਅ ਕੀ ਲੋਚਾ ਪੂਰੀਐ ਮਿਲੈ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਕੰਤੁ ॥ |
| jeea kee lochaa pooreeai milai suaamee kanth || |
| The soul's desires are fulfilled, upon meeting the Master, our Husband Lord. |

| ਨਾਨਕੁ ਜੀਵੈ ਜਪਿ ਹਰੀ ਦੋਖ ਸਭੇ ਹੀ ਹੰਤੁ ॥ |
| naanak jeevai jap haree dhokh sabhae hee hanth || |
| Nanak lives by chanting the Lord's Name; all sorrows have been erased. |

| ਦਿਨੁ ਰੈਣਿ ਜਿਸੁ ਨ ਵਿਸਰੈ ਸੋ ਹਰਿਆ ਹੋਵੈ ਜੰਤੁ ॥੩॥ |

| One who does not forget Him, day and night, is continually rejuvenated. ||3|| |

| ਸਰਬ ਕਲਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਪੂਰਣੋ ਮੰਞੁ ਨਿਮਾਣੀ ਥਾਉ ॥ |
| sarab kalaa prabh poorano mannj nimaanee thhaao || |
| God is overflowing with all powers. I have no honor-He is my resting place. |

| ਹਰਿ ਓਟ ਗਹੀ ਮਨ ਅੰਦਰੇ ਜਪਿ ਜਪਿ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨਾਉ ॥ |
| har outt gehee man andharae jap jap jeevaan naao || |
| I have grasped the Support of the Lord within my mind; I live by chanting and meditating on His Name. |

| ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਆਪਣੀ ਜਨ ਧੂੜੀ ਸੰਗਿ ਸਮਾਉ ॥ |
| kar kirapaa prabh aapanee jan dhhoorree sang samaao || |
| Grant Your Grace, God, and bless me, that I may merge into the dust of the feet of the humble. |

| ਜਿਉ ਤੂੰ ਰਾਖਹਿ ਤਿਉ ਰਹਾ ਤੇਰਾ ਦਿਤਾ ਪੈਨਾ ਖਾਉ ॥ |
| jio thoon raakhehi thio rehaa thaeraa dhithaa painaa khaao || |
| As You keep me, so do I live. I wear and eat whatever You give me. |

| ਉਦਮੁ ਸੋਈ ਕਰਾਇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਮਿਲਿ ਸਾਧੂ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਉ ॥ |
| oudham soee karaae prabh mil saadhhoo gun gaao || |
| May I make the effort, O God, to sing Your Glorious Praises in the Company of the Holy. |

| ਦੂਜੀ ਜਾਇ ਨ ਸੁਝਈ ਕਿਥੈ ਕੂਕਣ ਜਾਉ ॥ |
| dhoojee jaae n sujhee kithhai kookan jaao || |
| I can conceive of no other place; where could I go to lodge a complaint? |

| ਅਗਿਆਨ ਬਿਨਾਸਨ ਤਮ ਹਰਣ ਊਚੇ ਅਗਮ ਅਮਾਉ ॥ |

| You are the Dispeller of ignorance, the Destroyer of darkness, O Lofty, Unfathomable and Unapproachable Lord. |

| The Guru is the Giver; the Guru is the House of ice. The Guru is the Light of the three worlds. |

| First, the baby loves mother's milk; |

| second, he learns of his mother and father; |
 |
| ਤੀਜੈ ਭਯਾ ਭਾਭੀ ਬੇਬ ॥ |

| third, his brothers, sisters-in-law and sisters; |
 |
| ਚਉਥੈ ਪਿਆਰਿ ਉਪੰਨੀ ਖੇਡ ॥ |

| fourth, the love of play awakens. |
 |
| ਪੰਜਵੈ ਖਾਣ ਪੀਅਣ ਕੀ ਧਾਤੁ ॥ |
| panjavai khaan peean kee dhhaath || |
| Fifth, he runs after food and drink; |
 |
| ਛਿਵੈ ਕਾਮੁ ਨ ਪੁਛੈ ਜਾਤਿ ॥ |
| shhivai kaam n pushhai jaath || |
| sixth, in his sexual desire, he does not respect social customs. |
 |
| ਸਤਵੈ ਸੰਜਿ ਕੀਆ ਘਰ ਵਾਸੁ ॥ |
| sathavai sanj keeaa ghar vaas || |
| Seventh, he gathers wealth and dwells in his house; |
 |
| ਅਠਵੈ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਹੋਆ ਤਨ ਨਾਸੁ ॥ |
| athavai krodhh hoaa than naas || |
| eighth, he becomes angry, and his body is consumed. |
 |
| ਨਾਵੈ ਧਉਲੇ ਉਭੇ ਸਾਹ ॥ |
| naavai dhhoulae oubhae saah || |
| Ninth, he turns grey, and his breathing becomes labored; |
 |
| ਦਸਵੈ ਦਧਾ ਹੋਆ ਸੁਆਹ ॥ |
| dhasavai dhadhhaa hoaa suaah || |
| tenth, he is cremated, and turns to ashes. |
 |
| ਗਏ ਸਿਗੀਤ ਪੁਕਾਰੀ ਧਾਹ ॥ |
| geae sigeeth pukaaree dhhaah || |
| His companions send him off, crying out and lamenting. |
 |
| ਆਇਆ ਗਇਆ ਮੁਇਆ ਨਾਉ ॥ |
| aaeiaa gaeiaa mueiaa naao || |
| He came and he went, and now, even his name has died. |
 |
| ਪਿਛੈ ਪਤਲਿ ਸਦਿਹੁ ਕਾਵ ॥ |

| After he left, food was offered on leaves, and the birds were called to come and eat. |
 |
| ਨਾਨਕ ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਅੰਧੁ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥ |

| O Nanak, the self-willed manmukhs love the darkness. |

| At the age of ten, he is a child; at twenty, a youth, and at thirty, he is called handsome. |

| ਚਾਲੀਸੀ ਪੁਰੁ ਹੋਇ ਪਚਾਸੀ ਪਗੁ ਖਿਸੈ ਸਠੀ ਕੇ ਬੋਢੇਪਾ ਆਵੈ ॥ |
| chaaleesee pur hoe pachaasee pag khisai sathee kae bodtaepaa aavai || |
| At forty, he is full of life; at fifty, his foot slips, and at sixty, old age is upon him. |

| ਸਤਰਿ ਕਾ ਮਤਿਹੀਣੁ ਅਸੀਹਾਂ ਕਾ ਵਿਉਹਾਰੁ ਨ ਪਾਵੈ ॥ |
| sathar kaa mathiheen aseehaan kaa viouhaar n paavai || |
| At seventy, he loses his intellect, and at eighty, he cannot perform his duties. |
 |
| ਨਵੈ ਕਾ ਸਿਹਜਾਸਣੀ ਮੂਲਿ ਨ ਜਾਣੈ ਅਪ ਬਲੁ ॥ |
| navai kaa sihajaasanee mool n jaanai ap bal || |
| At ninety, he lies in his bed, and he cannot understand his weakness. |

| ਢੰਢੋਲਿਮੁ ਢੂਢਿਮੁ ਡਿਠੁ ਮੈ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਗੁ ਧੂਏ ਕਾ ਧਵਲਹਰੁ ॥੩॥ |

| After seeking and searching for such a long time, O Nanak, I have seen that the world is just a mansion of smoke. ||3|| |

| its colors, qualities and varieties, in so many ways and forms. |

| ਤੂੰ ਜਾਣਹਿ ਜਿਨਿ ਉਪਾਈਐ ਸਭੁ ਖੇਲੁ ਤੁਮਾਤੀ ॥ |

| You created it, and You alone understand it. It is all Your Play. |

| ਇਕਿ ਆਵਹਿ ਇਕਿ ਜਾਹਿ ਉਠਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਮਰਿ ਜਾਤੀ ॥ |
| eik aavehi eik jaahi outh bin naavai mar jaathee || |
| Some come, and some arise and depart; but without the Name, all are bound to die. |

| ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਰੰਗਿ ਚਲੂਲਿਆ ਰੰਗਿ ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤੀ ॥ |
| guramukh rang chalooliaa rang har rang raathee || |
| The Gurmukhs are imbued with the deep crimson color of the poppy; they are dyed in the color of the Lord's Love. |

| ਸੋ ਸੇਵਹੁ ਸਤਿ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੋ ਹਰਿ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਬਿਧਾਤੀ ॥ |
| so saevahu sath niranjano har purakh bidhhaathee || |
| So serve the True and Pure Lord, the Supremely Powerful Architect of Destiny. |
