| ਨਾਮਿ ਲਾਗੈ ਦੂਖੁ ਭਾਗੈ ਸਰਨਿ ਪਾਲਨ ਜੋਗੁ ॥ |
| naam laagai dhookh bhaagai saran paalan jog || |
| Attached to the Naam, the Name of the Lord, pain runs away. In His Sanctuary, He cherishes and sustains us. |

| ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਭੇਟੈ ਜਮੁ ਨ ਤੇਟੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਧੁਰਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੰਜੋਗੁ ॥੨॥ |
| sathigur bhaettai jam n thaettai jis dhhur hovai sanjog ||2|| |
| Whoever has such pre-ordained destiny meets with the True Guru; the Messenger of Death cannot grab him. ||2|| |

| ਰੈਨਿ ਦਿਨਸੁ ਧਿਆਇ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਤਜਹੁ ਮਨ ਕੇ ਭਰਮ ॥ |
| rain dhinas dhhiaae har har thajahu man kae bharam || |
| Night and day, meditate on the Lord, Har, Har; abandon the doubts of your mind. |

| ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਜਿਸਹਿ ਪੂਰਨ ਕਰਮ ॥੩॥ |
| saadhhasangath har milai jisehi pooran karam ||3|| |
| One who has perfect karma joins the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, and meets the Lord. ||3|| |

| ਜਨਮ ਜਨਮ ਬਿਖਾਦ ਬਿਨਸੇ ਰਾਖਿ ਲੀਨੇ ਆਪਿ ॥ |
| janam janam bikhaadh binasae raakh leenae aap || |
| The sins of countless lifetimes are erased, and one is protected by the Lord Himself. |

| kal kalaes lobh moh binas jaae ahan thaap ||1|| rehaao || |
| Conflict, suffering, greed and emotional attachment shall be dispelled, and the fever of egotism shall be relieved. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਆਪੁ ਤਿਆਗਿ ਸੰਤ ਚਰਨ ਲਾਗਿ ਮਨੁ ਪਵਿਤੁ ਜਾਹਿ ਪਾਪ ॥੧॥ |
| aap thiaag santh charan laag man pavith jaahi paap ||1|| |
| Renounce your selfishness, and grasp the feet of the Saints; your mind shall be sanctified, and your sins shall be taken away. ||1|| |

| So bow down in respect to the Savior Lord; worship and adore the One God. |

| ਝੂਠੈ ਲਾਲਚਿ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ॥ |

| In false greed, life is wasting away. |
|
| ਲਪਟਿ ਰਹੀ ਫੁਨਿ ਬੰਧੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ॥ |
| lapatt rehee fun bandhh n paaeiaa || |
| Duality clings to the mind; it cannot be restrained. |
|
| ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਰਾਖੇ ਨਾਮੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਇਆ ॥੧॥ |

| The True Guru saves us, implanting the Naam, the Name of the Lord within. ||1|| |

| ਨਾ ਮਨੁ ਮਰੈ ਨ ਮਾਇਆ ਮਰੈ ॥ |
| naa man marai n maaeiaa marai || |
| Without subduing the mind, Maya cannot be subdued. |

| ਜਿਨਿ ਕਿਛੁ ਕੀਆ ਸੋਈ ਜਾਣੈ ਸਬਦੁ ਵੀਚਾਰਿ ਭਉ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਤਰੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| jin kishh keeaa soee jaanai sabadh veechaar bho saagar tharai ||1|| rehaao || |
| The One who created this, He alone understands. Contemplating the Word of the Shabad, one is carried across the terrifying world-ocean. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਮਾਇਆ ਸੰਚਿ ਰਾਜੇ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੀ ॥ |
| maaeiaa sanch raajae ahankaaree || |
| Gathering the wealth of Maya, kings become proud and arrogant. |
|
| ਮਾਇਆ ਸਾਥਿ ਨ ਚਲੈ ਪਿਆਰੀ ॥ |
| maaeiaa saathh n chalai piaaree || |
| But this Maya that they love so much shall not go along with them in the end. |
|
| ਮਾਇਆ ਮਮਤਾ ਹੈ ਬਹੁ ਰੰਗੀ ॥ |
| maaeiaa mamathaa hai bahu rangee || |
| There are so many colors and flavors of attachment to Maya. |
|
| ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਕੋ ਸਾਥਿ ਨ ਸੰਗੀ ॥੨॥ |
| bin naavai ko saathh n sangee ||2|| |
| Except for the Name, no one has any friend or companion. ||2|| |
|
| ਜਿਉ ਮਨੁ ਦੇਖਹਿ ਪਰ ਮਨੁ ਤੈਸਾ ॥ |
| jio man dhaekhehi par man thaisaa || |
| According to one's own mind, one sees the minds of others. |
|
| ਜੈਸੀ ਮਨਸਾ ਤੈਸੀ ਦਸਾ ॥ |
| jaisee manasaa thaisee dhasaa || |
| According to one's desires, one's condition is determined. |
|
| ਜੈਸਾ ਕਰਮੁ ਤੈਸੀ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਵੈ ॥ |
| jaisaa karam thaisee liv laavai || |
| According to one's actions, one is focused and tuned in. |
|
| ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਛਿ ਸਹਜ ਘਰੁ ਪਾਵੈ ॥੩॥ |
| sathigur pooshh sehaj ghar paavai ||3|| |
| Seeking the advice of the True Guru, one finds the home of peace and poise. ||3|| |

| ਰਾਗਿ ਨਾਦਿ ਮਨੁ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ॥ |
| raag naadh man dhoojai bhaae || |
| In music and song, the mind is caught by the love of duality. |
|
| ਅੰਤਰਿ ਕਪਟੁ ਮਹਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਇ ॥ |
| anthar kapatt mehaa dhukh paae || |
| Filled with deception deep within, one suffers in terrible pain. |
|
| ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਭੇਟੈ ਸੋਝੀ ਪਾਇ ॥ |
| sathigur bhaettai sojhee paae || |
| Meeting with the True Guru, one is blessed with clear understanding, |
|
| ਸਚੈ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਹੈ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥੪॥ |
| sachai naam rehai liv laae ||4|| |
| and remains lovingly attuned to the True Name. ||4|| |
|
| ਸਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਚੁ ਕਮਾਵੈ ॥ |
| sachai sabadh sach kamaavai || |
| Through the True Word of the Shabad, one practices Truth. |
|
| ਸਚੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ॥ |
| sachee baanee har gun gaavai || |
| He sings the Glorious Praises of the Lord, through the True Word of His Bani. |
|
| ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਵਾਸੁ ਅਮਰ ਪਦੁ ਪਾਵੈ ॥ |
| nij ghar vaas amar padh paavai || |
| He dwells in the home of his own heart deep within, and obtains the immortal status. |
|
| ਤਾ ਦਰਿ ਸਾਚੈ ਸੋਭਾ ਪਾਵੈ ॥੫॥ |
| thaa dhar saachai sobhaa paavai ||5|| |
| Then, he is blessed with honor in the Court of the True Lord. ||5|| |
|
| ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਬਿਨੁ ਭਗਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥ |
| gur saevaa bin bhagath n hoee || |
| Without serving the Guru, there is no devotional worship, |
|
| ਅਨੇਕ ਜਤਨ ਕਰੈ ਜੇ ਕੋਈ ॥ |
| anaek jathan karai jae koee || |
| even though one may make all sorts of efforts. |
|
| ਹਉਮੈ ਮੇਰਾ ਸਬਦੇ ਖੋਈ ॥ |
| houmai maeraa sabadhae khoee || |
| If one eradicates egotism and selfishness through the Shabad, |
|
| ਨਿਰਮਲ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਸੈ ਮਨਿ ਸੋਈ ॥੬॥ |
| niramal naam vasai man soee ||6|| |
| the Immaculate Naam comes to abide in the mind. ||6|| |
|
| ਇਸੁ ਜਗ ਮਹਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਕਰਣੀ ਹੈ ਸਾਰੁ ॥ |
| eis jag mehi sabadh karanee hai saar || |
| In this world, the practice of the Shabad is the most excellent occupation. |
|
| ਬਿਨੁ ਸਬਦੈ ਹੋਰੁ ਮੋਹੁ ਗੁਬਾਰੁ ॥ |
| bin sabadhai hor mohu gubaar || |
| Without the Shabad, everything else is the darkness of emotional attachment. |
|
| ਸਬਦੇ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਖੈ ਉਰਿ ਧਾਰਿ ॥ |
| sabadhae naam rakhai our dhhaar || |
| Through the Shabad, the Naam is enshrined within the heart. |
|
| ਸਬਦੇ ਗਤਿ ਮਤਿ ਮੋਖ ਦੁਆਰੁ ॥੭॥ |
| sabadhae gath math mokh dhuaar ||7|| |
| Through the Shabad, one obtains clear understanding and the door of salvation. ||7|| |
|
| ਅਵਰੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਕਰਿ ਦੇਖਣਹਾਰੋ ॥ |
| avar naahee kar dhaekhanehaaro || |
| There is no other Creator except the All-seeing Lord God. |
