| thin kee sangath mil rehaan sachae sach samaao ||6|| |
| I shall continue to associate with them; devoted to Truth, I am absorbed in Truth. ||6|| |

| ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਗੁਰੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਉਪਾਇ ਕਿਤੈ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਾਇ ॥ |

| By perfect destiny, the Guru is found. He cannot be found by any efforts. |

| ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਸਹਜੁ ਊਪਜੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਜਲਾਇ ॥੭॥ |
| sathigur thae sehaj oopajai houmai sabadh jalaae ||7|| |
| Through the True Guru, intuitive wisdom wells up; through the Word of the Shabad, egotism is burnt away. ||7|| |

| ਹਰਿ ਸਰਣਾਈ ਭਜੁ ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਭ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਰਣੈ ਜੋਗੁ ॥ |
| har saranaaee bhaj man maerae sabh kishh karanai jog || |
| O my mind, hurry to the Sanctuary of the Lord; He is Potent to do everything. |

| Mother, father, siblings, children and spouse |

| ਚੂਗਹਿ ਚੋਗ ਅਨੰਦ ਸਿਉ ਜੁਗਤਾ ॥ |

| involved with them, people eat the food of bliss. |

| ਉਰਝਿ ਪਰਿਓ ਮਨ ਮੀਠ ਮ+ਹਾਰਾ ॥ |

| The mind is entangled in sweet emotional attachment. |
|
| ਗੁਨ ਗਾਹਕ ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਅਧਾਰਾ ॥੧॥ |

| Those who seek God's Glorious Virtues are the support of my breath of life. ||1|| |

| My One Lord is the Inner-Knower, the Searcher of hearts. |

| The Guru has told me that it is false and fraudulent. |

| ਮੁਖਿ ਮੀਠੀ ਖਾਈ ਕਉਰਾਇ ॥ |
| mukh meethee khaaee kouraae || |
| Its face is sweet, but it tastes very bitter. |
|
| ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਮਿ ਮਨੁ ਰਹਿਆ ਅਘਾਇ ॥੨॥ |

| My mind remains satisfied with the Ambrosial Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||2|| |

| ਲੋਭ ਮੋਹ ਸਿਉ ਗਈ ਵਿਖੋਟਿ ॥ |
| lobh moh sio gee vikhott || |
| I have broken my ties with greed and emotional attachment. |
|
| ਗੁਰਿ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲਿ ਮੋਹਿ ਕੀਨੀ ਛੋਟਿ ॥ |
| gur kirapaal mohi keenee shhott || |
| The Merciful Guru has rescued me from them. |
|
| ਇਹ ਠਗਵਾਰੀ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਘਰ ਗਾਲੇ ॥ |

| These cheating thieves have plundered so many homes. |
|
| ਹਮ ਗੁਰਿ ਰਾਖਿ ਲੀਏ ਕਿਰਪਾਲੇ ॥੩॥ |

| The Merciful Guru has protected and saved me. ||3|| |
|
| ਕਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਸਿਉ ਠਾਟੁ ਨ ਬਨਿਆ ॥ |
| kaam krodhh sio thaatt n baniaa || |
| I have no dealings whatsoever with sexual desire and anger. |
|
| ਗੁਰ ਉਪਦੇਸੁ ਮੋਹਿ ਕਾਨੀ ਸੁਨਿਆ ॥ |
| gur oupadhaes mohi kaanee suniaa || |
| I listen to the Guru's Teachings. |
|
| ਜਹ ਦੇਖਉ ਤਹ ਮਹਾ ਚੰਡਾਲ ॥ |
| jeh dhaekho theh mehaa chanddaal || |
| Wherever I look, I see the most horrible goblins. |
|
| ਰਾਖਿ ਲੀਏ ਅਪੁਨੈ ਗੁਰਿ ਗੋਪਾਲ ॥੪॥ |

| My Guru, the Lord of the World, has saved me from them. ||4|| |

| ਦਸ ਨਾਰੀ ਮੈ ਕਰੀ ਦੁਹਾਗਨਿ ॥ |

| I have made widows of the ten sensory organs. |
|
| ਗੁਰਿ ਕਹਿਆ ਏਹ ਰਸਹਿ ਬਿਖਾਗਨਿ ॥ |
| gur kehiaa eaeh rasehi bikhaagan || |
| The Guru has told me that these pleasures are the fires of corruption. |
|
| ਇਨ ਸਨਬੰਧੀ ਰਸਾਤਲਿ ਜਾਇ ॥ |
| ein sanabandhhee rasaathal jaae || |
| Those who associate with them go to hell. |
|
| ਹਮ ਗੁਰਿ ਰਾਖੇ ਹਰਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥੫॥ |
| ham gur raakhae har liv laae ||5|| |
| The Guru has saved me; I am lovingly attuned to the Lord. ||5|| |
|
| ਅਹੰਮੇਵ ਸਿਉ ਮਸਲਤਿ ਛੋਡੀ ॥ |
| ahanmaev sio masalath shhoddee || |
| I have forsaken the advice of my ego. |
|
| ਗੁਰਿ ਕਹਿਆ ਇਹੁ ਮੂਰਖੁ ਹੋਡੀ ॥ |
| gur kehiaa eihu moorakh hoddee || |
| The Guru has told me that this is foolish stubbornness. |
|
| ਇਹੁ ਨੀਘਰੁ ਘਰੁ ਕਹੀ ਨ ਪਾਏ ॥ |
| eihu neeghar ghar kehee n paaeae || |
| This ego is homeless; it shall never find a home. |
|
| ਹਮ ਗੁਰਿ ਰਾਖਿ ਲੀਏ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਏ ॥੬॥ |

| The Guru has saved me; I am lovingly attuned to the Lord. ||6|| |
|
| ਇਨ ਲੋਗਨ ਸਿਉ ਹਮ ਭਏ ਬੈਰਾਈ ॥ |
| ein logan sio ham bheae bairaaee || |
| I have become alienated from these people. |
|
| ਏਕ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਮਹਿ ਦੁਇ ਨ ਖਟਾਂਈ ॥ |
| eaek grih mehi dhue n khattaanee || |
| We cannot both live together in one home. |
|
| ਆਏ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਪਹਿ ਅੰਚਰਿ ਲਾਗਿ ॥ |

| Grasping the hem of the Guru's Robe, I have come to God. |
|
| ਕਰਹੁ ਤਪਾਵਸੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਰਬਾਗਿ ॥੭॥ |

| Please be fair with me, All-knowing Lord God. ||7|| |
|
| ਪ੍ਰਭ ਹਸਿ ਬੋਲੇ ਕੀਏ ਨਿਆਂਏਂ ॥ |

| God smiled at me and spoke, passing judgement. |
|
| ਸਗਲ ਦੂਤ ਮੇਰੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਲਾਏ ॥ |
| sagal dhooth maeree saevaa laaeae || |
| He made all the demons perform service for me. |
|
| ਤੂੰ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਇਹੁ ਗ੍ਰਿਹੁ ਸਭੁ ਤੇਰਾ ॥ |
| thoon thaakur eihu grihu sabh thaeraa || |
| You are my Lord and Master; all this home belongs to You. |

| ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਿ ਕੀਆ ਨਿਬੇਰਾ ॥੮॥੧॥ |

| Says Nanak, the Guru has passed judgement. ||8||1|| |

| ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਮਹਾ ਅਹੰਕਾਰਾ ॥ |

| Within the mind dwell anger and massive ego. |
|
| ਪੂਜਾ ਕਰਹਿ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਬਿਸਥਾਰਾ ॥ |
| poojaa karehi bahuth bisathhaaraa || |
| Worship services are performed with great pomp and ceremony. |
|
| ਕਰਿ ਇਸਨਾਨੁ ਤਨਿ ਚਕ੍ਰ ਬਣਾਏ ॥ |
| kar eisanaan than chakr banaaeae || |
| Ritual cleansing baths are taken, and sacred marks are applied to the body. |
|
| ਅੰਤਰ ਕੀ ਮਲੁ ਕਬ ਹੀ ਨ ਜਾਏ ॥੧॥ |
| anthar kee mal kab hee n jaaeae ||1|| |
| But still, the filth and pollution within never depart. ||1|| |
|
| ਇਤੁ ਸੰਜਮਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਕਿਨ ਹੀ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ॥ |
| eith sanjam prabh kin hee n paaeiaa || |
| No one has ever found God in this way. |
|
| ਭਗਉਤੀ ਮੁਦ੍ਰਾ ਮਨੁ ਮੋਹਿਆ ਮਾਇਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| bhagouthee mudhraa man mohiaa maaeiaa ||1|| rehaao || |
| The sacred mudras - ritualistic hand gestures - are made, but the mind remains enticed by Maya. ||1||Pause|| |
|
| ਪਾਪ ਕਰਹਿ ਪੰਚਾਂ ਕੇ ਬਸਿ ਰੇ ॥ |
| paap karehi panchaan kae bas rae || |
| They commit sins, under the influence of the five thieves. |
|
| ਤੀਰਥਿ ਨਾਇ ਕਹਹਿ ਸਭਿ ਉਤਰੇ ॥ |
| theerathh naae kehehi sabh outharae || |
| They bathe at sacred shrines, and claim that everything has been washed off. |
|
| ਬਹੁਰਿ ਕਮਾਵਹਿ ਹੋਇ ਨਿਸੰਕ ॥ |
| bahur kamaavehi hoe nisank || |
| Then they commit them again, without fear of the consequences. |
|
