| ik oankaar sathigur prasaadh || |

| ਤਨਿ ਚੰਦਨੁ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਪਾਤੀ ॥ |
| than chandhan masathak paathee || |
| You rub your body with sandalwood oil, and place basil leaves on your forehead. |
|
| ਰਿਦ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਕਰ ਤਲ ਕਾਤੀ ॥ |
| ridh anthar kar thal kaathee || |
| But you hold a knife in the hand of your heart. |
|
| ਠਗ ਦਿਸਟਿ ਬਗਾ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਗਾ ॥ |
| thag dhisatt bagaa liv laagaa || |
| You look like a thug; pretending to meditate, you pose like a crane. |
|
| ਦੇਖਿ ਬੈਸਨੋ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਮੁਖ ਭਾਗਾ ॥੧॥ |
| dhaekh baisano praan mukh bhaagaa ||1|| |
| You try to look like a Vaishnaav, but the breath of life escapes through your mouth. ||1|| |
|
| ਕਲਿ ਭਗਵਤ ਬੰਦ ਚਿਰਾਂਮੰ ॥ |
| kal bhagavath bandh chiraanman || |
| You pray for hours to God the Beautiful. |
|
| ਕ੍ਰੂਰ ਦਿਸਟਿ ਰਤਾ ਨਿਸਿ ਬਾਦੰ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| kroor dhisatt rathaa nis baadhan ||1|| rehaao || |
| But your gaze is evil, and your nights are wasted in conflict. ||1||Pause|| |
|
| ਨਿਤਪ੍ਰਤਿ ਇਸਨਾਨੁ ਸਰੀਰੰ ॥ |
| nithaprath eisanaan sareeran || |
| You perform daily cleansing rituals, |
|
| ਦੁਇ ਧੋਤੀ ਕਰਮ ਮੁਖਿ ਖੀਰੰ ॥ |
| dhue dhhothee karam mukh kheeran || |
| wear two loin-cloths, perform religious rituals and put only milk in your mouth. |
|
| ਰਿਦੈ ਛੁਰੀ ਸੰਧਿਆਨੀ ॥ |
| ridhai shhuree sandhhiaanee || |
| But in your heart, you have drawn out the sword. |
|
| ਪਰ ਦਰਬੁ ਹਿਰਨ ਕੀ ਬਾਨੀ ॥੨॥ |
| par dharab hiran kee baanee ||2|| |
| You routinely steal the property of others. ||2|| |
|
| ਸਿਲ ਪੂਜਸਿ ਚਕ੍ਰ ਗਣੇਸੰ ॥ |
| sil poojas chakr ganaesan || |
| You worship the stone idol, and paint ceremonial marks of Ganesha. |
|
| ਨਿਸਿ ਜਾਗਸਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਵੇਸੰ ॥ |
| nis jaagas bhagath pravaesan || |
| You remain awake throughout the night, pretending to worship God. |
|
| ਪਗ ਨਾਚਸਿ ਚਿਤੁ ਅਕਰਮੰ ॥ |
| pag naachas chith akaraman || |
| You dance, but your consciousness is filled with evil. |
|
| ਏ ਲੰਪਟ ਨਾਚ ਅਧਰਮੰ ॥੩॥ |
| eae lanpatt naach adhharaman ||3|| |
| You are lewd and depraved - this is such an unrighteous dance! ||3|| |
|
| ਮ੍ਰਿਗ ਆਸਣੁ ਤੁਲਸੀ ਮਾਲਾ ॥ |
| mrig aasan thulasee maalaa || |
| You sit on a deer-skin, and chant on your mala. |
|
| ਕਰ ਊਜਲ ਤਿਲਕੁ ਕਪਾਲਾ ॥ |
| kar oojal thilak kapaalaa || |
| You put the sacred mark, the tilak, on your forehead. |
|
| ਰਿਦੈ ਕੂੜੁ ਕੰਠਿ ਰੁਦ੍ਰਾਖੰ ॥ |
| ridhai koorr kanth rudhraakhan || |
| You wear the rosary beads of Shiva around your neck, but your heart is filled with falsehood. |
|
| ਰੇ ਲੰਪਟ ਕ੍ਰਿਸਨੁ ਅਭਾਖੰ ॥੪॥ |
| rae lanpatt kirasan abhaakhan ||4|| |
| You are lewd and depraved - you do not chant God's Name. ||4|| |
|
| ਜਿਨਿ ਆਤਮ ਤਤੁ ਨ ਚੀਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਿਆ ॥ |
| jin aatham thath n cheenihaaa || |
| Whoever does not realize the essence of the soul |
|
| ਸਭ ਫੋਕਟ ਧਰਮ ਅਬੀਨਿਆ ॥ |
| sabh fokatt dhharam abeeniaa || |
| all his religious actions are hollow and false. |
|
| ਕਹੁ ਬੇਣੀ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਧਿਆਵੈ ॥ |
| kahu baenee guramukh dhhiaavai || |
| Says Baynee, as Gurmukh, meditate. |

| raam simar raam simar eihai thaerai kaaj hai || |
| Meditate in remembrance on the Lord - meditate on the Lord; this alone shall be of use to you. |

| ਮਾਇਆ ਕੋ ਸੰਗੁ ਤਿਆਗੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਜੂ ਕੀ ਸਰਨਿ ਲਾਗੁ ॥ |
| maaeiaa ko sang thiaag prabh joo kee saran laag || |
| Abandon your association with Maya, and take shelter in the Sanctuary of God. |

| ਜਗਤ ਸੁਖ ਮਾਨੁ ਮਿਥਿਆ ਝੂਠੋ ਸਭ ਸਾਜੁ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| jagath sukh maan mithhiaa jhootho sabh saaj hai ||1|| rehaao || |
| Remember that the pleasures of the world are false; this whole show is just an illusion. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਸੁਪਨੇ ਜਿਉ ਧਨੁ ਪਛਾਨੁ ਕਾਹੇ ਪਰਿ ਕਰਤ ਮਾਨੁ ॥ |
| supanae jio dhhan pashhaan kaahae par karath maan || |
| You must understand that this wealth is just a dream. Why are you so proud? |

| ਬਾਰੂ ਕੀ ਭੀਤਿ ਜੈਸੇ ਬਸੁਧਾ ਕੋ ਰਾਜੁ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ |
| baaroo kee bheeth jaisae basudhhaa ko raaj hai ||1|| |
| The empires of the earth are like walls of sand. ||1|| |
|
| ਨਾਨਕੁ ਜਨੁ ਕਹਤੁ ਬਾਤ ਬਿਨਸਿ ਜੈਹੈ ਤੇਰੋ ਗਾਤੁ ॥ |
| naanak jan kehath baath binas jaihai thaero gaath || |
| Servant Nanak speaks the Truth: your body shall perish and pass away. |

| ਛਿਨੁ ਛਿਨੁ ਕਰਿ ਗਇਓ ਕਾਲੁ ਤੈਸੇ ਜਾਤੁ ਆਜੁ ਹੈ ॥੨॥੧॥ |

| Moment by moment, yesterday passed. Today is passing as well. ||2||1|| |

| raam bhaj raam bhaj janam siraath hai || |
| Meditate on the Lord - vibrate on the Lord; your life is slipping away. |

| ਕਹਉ ਕਹਾ ਬਾਰ ਬਾਰ ਸਮਝਤ ਨਹ ਕਿਉ ਗਵਾਰ ॥ |
| keho kehaa baar baar samajhath neh kio gavaar || |
| Why am I telling you this again and again? You fool - why don't you understand? |

| ਬਿਨਸਤ ਨਹ ਲਗੈ ਬਾਰ ਓਰੇ ਸਮ ਗਾਤੁ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| binasath neh lagai baar ourae sam gaath hai ||1|| rehaao || |
| Your body is like a hail-stone; it melts away in no time at all. ||1||Pause|| |
|
| ਸਗਲ ਭਰਮ ਡਾਰਿ ਦੇਹਿ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਕੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਲੇਹਿ ॥ |
| sagal bharam ddaar dhaehi gobindh ko naam laehi || |
| So give up all your doubts, and utter the Naam, the Name of the Lord. |

| ਅੰਤਿ ਬਾਰ ਸੰਗਿ ਤੇਰੈ ਇਹੈ ਏਕੁ ਜਾਤੁ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ |
| anth baar sang thaerai eihai eaek jaath hai ||1|| |
| At the very last moment, this alone shall go along with you. ||1|| |
|
| ਬਿਖਿਆ ਬਿਖੁ ਜਿਉ ਬਿਸਾਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੌ ਜਸੁ ਹੀਏ ਧਾਰਿ ॥ |
| bikhiaa bikh jio bisaar prabh ka jas heeeae dhhaar || |
| Forget the poisonous sins of corruption, and enshrine the Praises of God in your heart. |
|
| ਨਾਨਕ ਜਨ ਕਹਿ ਪੁਕਾਰਿ ਅਉਸਰੁ ਬਿਹਾਤੁ ਹੈ ॥੨॥੨॥ |

| Servant Nanak proclaims that this opportunity is slipping away. ||2||2|| |

| ਰੇ ਮਨ ਕਉਨ ਗਤਿ ਹੋਇ ਹੈ ਤੇਰੀ ॥ |
| rae man koun gath hoe hai thaeree || |
| O mortal, what will your condition be? |
|
| ਇਹ ਜਗ ਮਹਿ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਸੋ ਤਉ ਨਹੀ ਸੁਨਿਓ ਕਾਨਿ ॥ |
| eih jag mehi raam naam so tho nehee suniou kaan || |
| In this world, you have not listened to the Lord's Name. |
|
| ਬਿਖਿਅਨ ਸਿਉ ਅਤਿ ਲੁਭਾਨਿ ਮਤਿ ਨਾਹਿਨ ਫੇਰੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| bikhian sio ath lubhaan math naahin faeree ||1|| rehaao || |
| You are totally engrossed in corruption and sin; you have not turned your mind away from them at all. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਮਾਨਸ ਕੋ ਜਨਮੁ ਲੀਨੁ ਸਿਮਰਨੁ ਨਹ ਨਿਮਖ ਕੀਨੁ ॥ |
| maanas ko janam leen simaran neh nimakh keen || |
| You obtained this human life, but you have not remembered the Lord in meditation, even for an instant. |
|
| ਦਾਰਾ ਸੁਖ ਭਇਓ ਦੀਨੁ ਪਗਹੁ ਪਰੀ ਬੇਰੀ ॥੧॥ |
| dhaaraa sukh bhaeiou dheen pagahu paree baeree ||1|| |
| For the sake of pleasure, you have become subservient to your woman, and now your feet are bound. ||1|| |
|
| ਨਾਨਕ ਜਨ ਕਹਿ ਪੁਕਾਰਿ ਸੁਪਨੈ ਜਿਉ ਜਗ ਪਸਾਰੁ ॥ |
| naanak jan kehi pukaar supanai jio jag pasaar || |
| Servant Nanak proclaims that the vast expanse of this world is just a dream. |

| ਸਿਮਰਤ ਨਹ ਕਿਉ ਮੁਰਾਰਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਜਾ ਕੀ ਚੇਰੀ ॥੨॥੩॥ |
| simarath neh kio muraar maaeiaa jaa kee chaeree ||2||3|| |
| Why not meditate on the Lord? Even Maya is His slave. ||2||3|| |

| Slipping away - your life is uselessly slipping away. |
|
| ਨਿਸਿ ਦਿਨੁ ਸੁਨਿ ਕੈ ਪੁਰਾਨ ਸਮਝਤ ਨਹ ਰੇ ਅਜਾਨ ॥ |
| nis dhin sun kai puraan samajhath neh rae ajaan || |
| Night and day, you listen to the Puraanas, but you do not understand them, you ignorant fool! |
