| ਇਕ ਅਵਘਟ ਘਾਟੀ ਰਾਮ ਕੀ ਤਿਹ ਚੜਿ ਰਹਿਓ ਕਬੀਰ ॥੧੬੫॥ |
| eik avaghatt ghaattee raam kee thih charr rehiou kabeer ||165|| |
| There is a difficult and treacherous cliff on that path to the Lord; Kabeer is climbing that cliff. ||165|| |

| ਕਬੀਰ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਕੇ ਦੋਖੇ ਮੂਆ ਚਾਲਤ ਕੁਲ ਕੀ ਕਾਨਿ ॥ |
| kabeer dhuneeaa kae dhokhae mooaa chaalath kul kee kaan || |
| Kabeer, the mortal dies of his worldly troubles and pain, after worrying about his family. |

| ਤਬ ਕੁਲੁ ਕਿਸ ਕਾ ਲਾਜਸੀ ਜਬ ਲੇ ਧਰਹਿ ਮਸਾਨਿ ॥੧੬੬॥ |
| thab kul kis kaa laajasee jab lae dhharehi masaan ||166|| |
| Whose family is dishonored, when he is placed on the funeral pyre? ||166|| |
|
| ਕਬੀਰ ਡੂਬਹਿਗੋ ਰੇ ਬਾਪੁਰੇ ਬਹੁ ਲੋਗਨ ਕੀ ਕਾਨਿ ॥ |
| kabeer ddoobehigo rae baapurae bahu logan kee kaan || |
| Kabeer, you shall drown, you wretched being, from worrying about what other people think. |

| ਪਾਰੋਸੀ ਕੇ ਜੋ ਹੂਆ ਤੂ ਅਪਨੇ ਭੀ ਜਾਨੁ ॥੧੬੭॥ |
| paarosee kae jo hooaa thoo apanae bhee jaan ||167|| |
| You know that whatever happens to your neighbors, will also happen to you. ||167|| |
|
| ਕਬੀਰ ਭਲੀ ਮਧੂਕਰੀ ਨਾਨਾ ਬਿਧਿ ਕੋ ਨਾਜੁ ॥ |
| kabeer bhalee madhhookaree naanaa bidhh ko naaj || |
| Kabeer, even dry bread, made of various grains, is good. |
|
| ਦਾਵਾ ਕਾਹੂ ਕੋ ਨਹੀ ਬਡਾ ਦੇਸੁ ਬਡ ਰਾਜੁ ॥੧੬੮॥ |
| dhaavaa kaahoo ko nehee baddaa dhaes badd raaj ||168|| |
| No one brags about it, throughout the vast country and great empire. ||168|| |
|
| ਕਬੀਰ ਦਾਵੈ ਦਾਝਨੁ ਹੋਤੁ ਹੈ ਨਿਰਦਾਵੈ ਰਹੈ ਨਿਸੰਕ ॥ |
| kabeer dhaavai dhaajhan hoth hai niradhaavai rehai nisank || |
| Kabeer, those who brag, shall burn. Those who do not brag remain carefree. |
|
| ਜੋ ਜਨੁ ਨਿਰਦਾਵੈ ਰਹੈ ਸੋ ਗਨੈ ਇੰਦ੍ਰ ਸੋ ਰੰਕ ॥੧੬੯॥ |
| jo jan niradhaavai rehai so ganai eindhr so rank ||169|| |
| That humble being who does not brag, looks upon the gods and the poor alike. ||169|| |
|
| ਕਬੀਰ ਪਾਲਿ ਸਮੁਹਾ ਸਰਵਰੁ ਭਰਾ ਪੀ ਨ ਸਕੈ ਕੋਈ ਨੀਰੁ ॥ |
| kabeer paal samuhaa saravar bharaa pee n sakai koee neer || |
| Kabeer, the pool is filled to overflowing, but no one can drink the water from it. |

| ਭਾਗ ਬਡੇ ਤੈ ਪਾਇਓ ਤੂੰ ਭਰਿ ਭਰਿ ਪੀਉ ਕਬੀਰ ॥੧੭੦॥ |
| bhaag baddae thai paaeiou thoon bhar bhar peeo kabeer ||170|| |
| By great good fortune, you have found it; drink it in handfuls, O Kabeer. ||170|| |
|
| ਕਬੀਰ ਪਰਭਾਤੇ ਤਾਰੇ ਖਿਸਹਿ ਤਿਉ ਇਹੁ ਖਿਸੈ ਸਰੀਰੁ ॥ |
| kabeer parabhaathae thaarae khisehi thio eihu khisai sareer || |
| Kabeer, just as the stars disappear at dawn, so shall this body disappear. |
|
| ਏ ਦੁਇ ਅਖਰ ਨਾ ਖਿਸਹਿ ਸੋ ਗਹਿ ਰਹਿਓ ਕਬੀਰੁ ॥੧੭੧॥ |
| eae dhue akhar naa khisehi so gehi rehiou kabeer ||171|| |
| Only the letters of God's Name do not disappear; Kabeer holds these tight. ||171|| |
|
| ਕਬੀਰ ਕੋਠੀ ਕਾਠ ਕੀ ਦਹ ਦਿਸਿ ਲਾਗੀ ਆਗਿ ॥ |
| kabeer kothee kaath kee dheh dhis laagee aag || |
| Kabeer, the wooden house is burning on all sides. |
|
| ਪੰਡਿਤ ਪੰਡਿਤ ਜਲਿ ਮੂਏ ਮੂਰਖ ਉਬਰੇ ਭਾਗਿ ॥੧੭੨॥ |
| panddith panddith jal mooeae moorakh oubarae bhaag ||172|| |
| The Pandits, the religious scholars, have been burnt to death, while the illiterate ones run to safety. ||172|| |
|
| ਕਬੀਰ ਸੰਸਾ ਦੂਰਿ ਕਰੁ ਕਾਗਦ ਦੇਹ ਬਿਹਾਇ ॥ |
| kabeer sansaa dhoor kar kaagadh dhaeh bihaae || |
| Kabeer, give up your skepticism; let your papers float away. |
|
| ਬਾਵਨ ਅਖਰ ਸੋਧਿ ਕੈ ਹਰਿ ਚਰਨੀ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਇ ॥੧੭੩॥ |
| baavan akhar sodhh kai har charanee chith laae ||173|| |
| Find the essence of the letters of the alphabet, and focus your consciousness on the Lord. ||173|| |
|
| ਕਬੀਰ ਸੰਤੁ ਨ ਛਾਡੈ ਸੰਤਈ ਜਉ ਕੋਟਿਕ ਮਿਲਹਿ ਅਸੰਤ ॥ |
| kabeer santh n shhaaddai santhee jo kottik milehi asanth || |
| Kabeer, the Saint does not forsake his Saintly nature, even though he meets with millions of evil-doers. |
|
| ਮਲਿਆਗਰੁ ਭੁਯੰਗਮ ਬੇਢਿਓ ਤ ਸੀਤਲਤਾ ਨ ਤਜੰਤ ॥੧੭੪॥ |
| maliaagar bhuyangam baedtiou th seethalathaa n thajanth ||174|| |
| Even when sandalwood is surrounded by snakes, it does not give up its cooling fragrance. ||174|| |
|
| ਕਬੀਰ ਮਨੁ ਸੀਤਲੁ ਭਇਆ ਪਾਇਆ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੁ ॥ |
| kabeer man seethal bhaeiaa paaeiaa breham giaan || |
| Kabeer, my mind is cooled and soothed; I have become God-conscious. |
|
| ਜਿਨਿ ਜੁਆਲਾ ਜਗੁ ਜਾਰਿਆ ਸੁ ਜਨ ਕੇ ਉਦਕ ਸਮਾਨਿ ॥੧੭੫॥ |
| jin juaalaa jag jaariaa s jan kae oudhak samaan ||175|| |
| The fire which has burnt the world is like water to the Lord's humble servant. ||175|| |
|
| ਕਬੀਰ ਸਾਰੀ ਸਿਰਜਨਹਾਰ ਕੀ ਜਾਨੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਕੋਇ ॥ |
| kabeer saaree sirajanehaar kee jaanai naahee koe || |
| Kabeer, no one knows the Play of the Creator Lord. |
|
| ਕੈ ਜਾਨੈ ਆਪਨ ਧਨੀ ਕੈ ਦਾਸੁ ਦੀਵਾਨੀ ਹੋਇ ॥੧੭੬॥ |
| kai jaanai aapan dhhanee kai dhaas dheevaanee hoe ||176|| |
| Only the Lord Himself and the slaves at His Court understand it. ||176|| |
|
| ਓਰਾ ਗਰਿ ਪਾਨੀ ਭਇਆ ਜਾਇ ਮਿਲਿਓ ਢਲਿ ਕੂਲਿ ॥੧੭੭॥ |
| ouraa gar paanee bhaeiaa jaae miliou dtal kool ||177|| |
| The hail-stone has melted into water, and flowed into the ocean. ||177|| |
|
| ਕਬੀਰਾ ਧੂਰਿ ਸਕੇਲਿ ਕੈ ਪੁਰੀਆ ਬਾਂਧੀ ਦੇਹ ॥ |
| kabeeraa dhhoor sakael kai pureeaa baandhhee dhaeh || |
| Kabeer, the body is a pile of dust, collected and packed together. |
|
| ਦਿਵਸ ਚਾਰਿ ਕੋ ਪੇਖਨਾ ਅੰਤਿ ਖੇਹ ਕੀ ਖੇਹ ॥੧੭੮॥ |
| dhivas chaar ko paekhanaa anth khaeh kee khaeh ||178|| |
| It is a show which lasts for only a few days, and then dust returns to dust. ||178|| |
|
| ਕਬੀਰ ਸੂਰਜ ਚਾਂਦ ਕੈ ਉਦੈ ਭਈ ਸਭ ਦੇਹ ॥ |
| kabeer sooraj chaandh kai oudhai bhee sabh dhaeh || |
| Kabeer, bodies are like the rising and setting of the sun and the moon. |
|
| ਗੁਰ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਕੇ ਬਿਨੁ ਮਿਲੇ ਪਲਟਿ ਭਈ ਸਭ ਖੇਹ ॥੧੭੯॥ |
| gur gobindh kae bin milae palatt bhee sabh khaeh ||179|| |
| Without meeting the Guru, the Lord of the Universe, they are all reduced to dust again. ||179|| |
|
| ਜਹ ਅਨਭਉ ਤਹ ਭੈ ਨਹੀ ਜਹ ਭਉ ਤਹ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਹਿ ॥ |
| jeh anabho theh bhai nehee jeh bho theh har naahi || |
| Where the Fearless Lord is, there is no fear; where there is fear, the Lord is not there. |
|
| ਕਹਿਓ ਕਬੀਰ ਬਿਚਾਰਿ ਕੈ ਸੰਤ ਸੁਨਹੁ ਮਨ ਮਾਹਿ ॥੧੮੦॥ |
| kehiou kabeer bichaar kai santh sunahu man maahi ||180|| |
| Kabeer speaks after careful consideration; hear this, O Saints, in your minds. ||180|| |
|
| ਕਬੀਰ ਜਿਨਹੁ ਕਿਛੂ ਜਾਨਿਆ ਨਹੀ ਤਿਨ ਸੁਖ ਨੀਦ ਬਿਹਾਇ ॥ |
| kabeer jinahu kishhoo jaaniaa nehee thin sukh needh bihaae || |
| Kabeer, those who do not know anything, pass their lives in peaceful sleep. |
|
| ਹਮਹੁ ਜੁ ਬੂਝਾ ਬੂਝਨਾ ਪੂਰੀ ਪਰੀ ਬਲਾਇ ॥੧੮੧॥ |
| hamahu j boojhaa boojhanaa pooree paree balaae ||181|| |
| But I have understood the riddle; I am faced with all sorts of troubles. ||181|| |
|
| ਕਬੀਰ ਮਾਰੇ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਪੁਕਾਰਿਆ ਪੀਰ ਪੁਕਾਰੈ ਅਉਰ ॥ |
| kabeer maarae bahuth pukaariaa peer pukaarai aour || |
| Kabeer, those who are beaten cry a lot; but the cries of the pain of separation are different. |

| ਲਾਗੀ ਚੋਟ ਮਰੰਮ ਕੀ ਰਹਿਓ ਕਬੀਰਾ ਠਉਰ ॥੧੮੨॥ |
| laagee chott maranm kee rehiou kabeeraa thour ||182|| |
| Struck by the Mystery of God, Kabeer remains silent. ||182|| |
|
| ਕਬੀਰ ਚੋਟ ਸੁਹੇਲੀ ਸੇਲ ਕੀ ਲਾਗਤ ਲੇਇ ਉਸਾਸ ॥ |
| kabeer chott suhaelee sael kee laagath laee ousaas || |
| Kabeer, the stroke of a lance is easy to bear; it takes away the breath. |

| ਚੋਟ ਸਹਾਰੈ ਸਬਦ ਕੀ ਤਾਸੁ ਗੁਰੂ ਮੈ ਦਾਸ ॥੧੮੩॥ |
| chott sehaarai sabadh kee thaas guroo mai dhaas ||183|| |
| But one who endures the stroke of the Word of the Shabad is the Guru, and I am his slave. ||183|| |
|
| ਕਬੀਰ ਮੁਲਾਂ ਮੁਨਾਰੇ ਕਿਆ ਚਢਹਿ ਸਾਂਈ ਨ ਬਹਰਾ ਹੋਇ ॥ |
| kabeer mulaan munaarae kiaa chadtehi saanee n beharaa hoe || |
| Kabeer: O Mullah, why do you climb to the top of the minaret? The Lord is not hard of hearing. |

| ਜਾ ਕਾਰਨਿ ਤੂੰ ਬਾਂਗ ਦੇਹਿ ਦਿਲ ਹੀ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਜੋਇ ॥੧੮੪॥ |
| jaa kaaran thoon baang dhaehi dhil hee bheethar joe ||184|| |
| Look within your own heart for the One, for whose sake you shout your prayers. ||184|| |
|
| ਸੇਖ ਸਬੂਰੀ ਬਾਹਰਾ ਕਿਆ ਹਜ ਕਾਬੇ ਜਾਇ ॥ |
| saekh sabooree baaharaa kiaa haj kaabae jaae || |
| Why does the Shaykh bother to go on pilgrimage to Mecca, if he is not content with himself? |

| ਕਬੀਰ ਜਾ ਕੀ ਦਿਲ ਸਾਬਤਿ ਨਹੀ ਤਾ ਕਉ ਕਹਾਂ ਖੁਦਾਇ ॥੧੮੫॥ |
| kabeer jaa kee dhil saabath nehee thaa ko kehaan khudhaae ||185|| |
| Kabeer, one whose heart is not healthy and whole - how can he attain his Lord? ||185|| |
|
| ਕਬੀਰ ਅਲਹ ਕੀ ਕਰਿ ਬੰਦਗੀ ਜਿਹ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਦੁਖੁ ਜਾਇ ॥ |
| kabeer aleh kee kar bandhagee jih simarath dhukh jaae || |
| Kabeer, worship the Lord Allah; meditating in remembrance on Him, troubles and pains depart. |
|
| ਦਿਲ ਮਹਿ ਸਾਂਈ ਪਰਗਟੈ ਬੁਝੈ ਬਲੰਤੀ ਨਾਂਇ ॥੧੮੬॥ |
| dhil mehi saanee paragattai bujhai balanthee naane ||186|| |
| The Lord shall be revealed within your own heart, and the burning fire within shall be extinguished by His Name. ||186|| |
|
| ਕਬੀਰ ਜੋਰੀ ਕੀਏ ਜੁਲਮੁ ਹੈ ਕਹਤਾ ਨਾਉ ਹਲਾਲੁ ॥ |
| kabeer joree keeeae julam hai kehathaa naao halaal || |
| Kabeer, to use force is tyranny, even if you call it legal. |

| ਦਫਤਰਿ ਲੇਖਾ ਮਾਂਗੀਐ ਤਬ ਹੋਇਗੋ ਕਉਨੁ ਹਵਾਲੁ ॥੧੮੭॥ |
| dhafathar laekhaa maangeeai thab hoeigo koun havaal ||187|| |
| When your account is called for in the Court of the Lord, what will your condition be then? ||187|| |

| ਕਬੀਰ ਖੂਬੁ ਖਾਨਾ ਖੀਚਰੀ ਜਾ ਮਹਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਲੋਨੁ ॥ |
| kabeer khoob khaanaa kheecharee jaa mehi anmrith lon || |
| Kabeer, the dinner of beans and rice is excellent, if it is flavored with salt. |
|
| ਹੇਰਾ ਰੋਟੀ ਕਾਰਨੇ ਗਲਾ ਕਟਾਵੈ ਕਉਨੁ ॥੧੮੮॥ |
| haeraa rottee kaaranae galaa kattaavai koun ||188|| |
| Who would cut his throat, to have meat with his bread? ||188|| |
|
| ਕਬੀਰ ਗੁਰੁ ਲਾਗਾ ਤਬ ਜਾਨੀਐ ਮਿਟੈ ਮੋਹੁ ਤਨ ਤਾਪ ॥ |
| kabeer gur laagaa thab jaaneeai mittai mohu than thaap || |
| Kabeer, one is known to have been touched by the Guru, only when his emotional attachment and physical illnesses are eradicated. |

| ਹਰਖ ਸੋਗ ਦਾਝੈ ਨਹੀ ਤਬ ਹਰਿ ਆਪਹਿ ਆਪਿ ॥੧੮੯॥ |
| harakh sog dhaajhai nehee thab har aapehi aap ||189|| |
| He is not burned by pleasure or pain, and so he becomes the Lord Himself. ||189|| |
|
| ਕਬੀਰ ਰਾਮ ਕਹਨ ਮਹਿ ਭੇਦੁ ਹੈ ਤਾ ਮਹਿ ਏਕੁ ਬਿਚਾਰੁ ॥ |
| kabeer raam kehan mehi bhaedh hai thaa mehi eaek bichaar || |
| Kabeer, it does make a difference, how you chant the Lord's Name, 'Raam'. This is something to consider. |

| ਸੋਈ ਰਾਮੁ ਸਭੈ ਕਹਹਿ ਸੋਈ ਕਉਤਕਹਾਰ ॥੧੯੦॥ |
| soee raam sabhai kehehi soee kouthakehaar ||190|| |
| Everyone uses the same word for the son of Dasrath and the Wondrous Lord. ||190|| |
