ਸਬਦੁ ਪਛਾਣੈ ਰਵਿ ਰਹੈ ਨਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਕਾਲੁ ਸੰਤਾਇ ॥ |
sabadh pashhaanai rav rehai naa this kaal santhaae || |
One who recognizes the Shabad merges into it, and is not afflicted by death. |

ਜਲ ਮਹਿ ਜੀਅ ਉਪਾਇ ਕੈ ਬਿਨੁ ਜਲ ਮਰਣੁ ਤਿਨੇਹਿ ॥੧॥ |
jal mehi jeea oupaae kai bin jal maran thinaehi ||1|| |
In the water, the creatures are created; outside of the water they die. ||1|| |

ਵਿਛੁੜਿਆ ਗੁਰੁ ਮੇਲਸੀ ਹਰਿ ਰਸਿ ਨਾਮ ਪਿਆਰਿ ॥ |
vishhurriaa gur maelasee har ras naam piaar || |
The Guru unites the separated ones with the Lord again, through the love of the Delicious Name of the Lord. |

ਅਵਗਣਿ ਬਧਾ ਮਾਰੀਐ ਛੂਟੈ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਨਾਇ ॥੭॥ |
avagan badhhaa maareeai shhoottai guramath naae ||7|| |
Bound and gagged and assaulted by evil, they are released only through the Name, through the Guru's Teachings. ||7|| |

ਆਪਿ ਛਡਾਏ ਛੁਟੀਐ ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸਣਹਾਰੁ ॥੨॥ |
aap shhaddaaeae shhutteeai aapae bakhasanehaar ||2|| |
He Himself delivers those who are delivered. He Himself is the Forgiver. ||2|| |

ਹਉਮੈ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਜਾਇਸੀ ਜੋ ਆਇਆ ਜਗ ਮਾਹਿ ॥ |
houmai kar kar jaaeisee jo aaeiaa jag maahi || |
Whoever comes into the world and indulges in ego, must depart. |

ਦੇਖਿ ਕੁਟੰਬੁ ਮੋਹਿ ਲੋਭਾਣਾ ਚਲਦਿਆ ਨਾਲਿ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥ |
dhaekh kuttanb mohi lobhaanaa chaladhiaa naal n jaaee || |
Beholding your family, you are lured away by emotional attachment, but when you leave, they will not go with you. |

ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਪਾਈਐ ਕਰਮਿ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥੮॥੨॥੧੯॥ |
gur parasaadhee paaeeai karam paraapath hoe ||8||2||19|| |
By Guru's Grace, He is obtained. By His Mercy, He is found. ||8||2||19|| |

ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਚੁਕਾਇਆ ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥ |
maaeiaa mohu chukaaeiaa guramathee sehaj subhaae || |
Emotional attachment to Maya is shed with intuitive ease, through the Guru's Teachings. |

ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਮਹਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਹਰਿ ਉਪਜੈ ਜਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਸੁਭਾਏ ॥ |
sathasangath mehi naam har oupajai jaa sathigur milai subhaaeae || |
In the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation, the Name of the Lord wells up, when the True Guru unites us in His Sublime Love. |

ਨਾਨਕ ਤੋਟਿ ਨ ਆਵਈ ਦੀਏ ਦੇਵਣਹਾਰਿ ॥੧੦॥੬॥੨੩॥ |
naanak thott n aavee dheeeae dhaevanehaar ||10||6||23|| |
O Nanak, when the Great Giver gives, nothing at all is lacking. ||10||6||23|| |

ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ਮਰਿ ਜੰਮਹਿ ਵਾਰੋ ਵਾਰ ॥੫॥ |
birathhaa janam gavaaeiaa mar janmehi vaaro vaar ||5|| |
They waste their lives uselessly; they die and are reincarnated over and over again. ||5|| |

ਲਸਕਰ ਤਰਕਸਬੰਦ ਬੰਦ ਜੀਉ ਜੀਉ ਸਗਲੀ ਕੀਤ ॥ |
lasakar tharakasabandh bandh jeeo jeeo sagalee keeth || |
you may have armies well-equipped with weapons, and all may salute you with respect; |

ਜਿਤੁ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਪਰਮ ਗਤਿ ਪਾਈਐ ॥ |
jith miliai param gath paaeeai || |
Meeting Him, the supreme status is obtained. |

ਸਾਹ ਪਾਤਿਸਾਹ ਸਿਰਿ ਖਸਮੁ ਤੂੰ ਜਪਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਜੀਵੈ ਨਾਉ ਜੀਉ ॥੧੯॥ |
saah paathisaah sir khasam thoon jap naanak jeevai naao jeeo ||19|| |
You are the Supreme Lord and Master, above the heads of kings. Nanak lives by chanting Your Name. ||19|| |

ਪੈਰ ਧੋਵਾ ਪਖਾ ਫੇਰਦਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਨਿਵਿ ਨਿਵਿ ਲਗਾ ਪਾਇ ਜੀਉ ॥੧੦॥ |
pair dhhovaa pakhaa faeradhaa this niv niv lagaa paae jeeo ||10|| |
I wash their feet, and wave the fan over them. Bowing low, I fall at their feet. ||10|| |

ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਪਹਿਲੈ ਪਹਰੈ ਹੁਕਮਿ ਪਇਆ ਗਰਭਾਸਿ ॥੧॥ |
kahu naanak praanee pehilai peharai hukam paeiaa garabhaas ||1|| |
Says Nanak, in the first watch of the night, by the Hukam of the Lord's Command, you enter into the womb. ||1|| |

ਜੋਬਨੁ ਘਟੈ ਜਰੂਆ ਜਿਣੈ ਵਣਜਾਰਿਆ ਮਿਤ੍ਰਾ ਆਵ ਘਟੈ ਦਿਨੁ ਜਾਇ ॥ |
joban ghattai jarooaa jinai vanajaariaa mithraa aav ghattai dhin jaae || |
Youth wears itself out, and old age triumphs, O my merchant friend; as time passes, your days diminish. |

ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਾ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਕਦੇ ਨ ਸਮਾਲੈ ਜਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਅੰਤਿ ਸਖਾਈ ॥ |
har naamaa har har kadhae n samaalai j hovai anth sakhaaee || |
You never dwell upon the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, who will be your only Helper and Support in the end. |

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਮਾਲਿ ਪਰਾਣੀ ਅੰਤੇ ਹੋਇ ਸਖਾਈ ॥ |
guramukh naam samaal paraanee anthae hoe sakhaaee || |
As Gurmukh, remember the Naam, O mortal; in the end, it shall be your only companion. |

ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਮੇਰੇ ਬਾਬੁਲਾ ਹਰਿ ਦੇਵਹੁ ਦਾਨੁ ਮੈ ਦਾਜੋ ॥ |
har prabh maerae baabulaa har dhaevahu dhaan mai dhaajo || |
O my father, give me the Name of the Lord God as my wedding gift and dowry. |

ਸਿਮਰਿ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਸੁਖਹ ਗਾਮੀ ਇਛ ਸਗਲੀ ਪੁੰਨੀਆ ॥ |
simar suaamee sukheh gaamee eishh sagalee punneeaa || |
Remember your Lord and Master, who is easily obtained, and all desires shall be fulfilled. |

ਮਨਿ ਤਨੇ ਗਲਤਾਨ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਨਾਮ ਹਰਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਪੀਵਤੇ ਜੀਉ ॥ |
man thanae galathaan simarath prabh naam har anmrith peevathae jeeo || |
Their minds and bodies are absorbed in meditation on the Name of God; they drink in the Lord's Ambrosial Nectar. |

ਹਰਿ ਗੁਰ ਸਰਣਾਈ ਪਾਈਐ ਵਣਜਾਰਿਆ ਮਿਤ੍ਰਾ ਵਡਭਾਗਿ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
har gur saranaaee paaeeai vanajaariaa mithraa vaddabhaag paraapath hoe ||1|| rehaao || |
In the Guru's Sanctuary, the Lord is found, O my merchant friend; by great good fortune, He is obtained. ||1||Pause|| |

man preeth lagee thinaa guramukhaa har naam jinaa reharaas ||1|| rehaao ||1|| |
The Gurmukhs embrace the Love of the Lord in their minds; they are continually occupied with the Lord's Name. ||1||Pause||1|| |

kudharath kar kai vasiaa soe || |
He created the Creative Power of the Universe, within which He dwells. |

ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਸਭ ਜੋਹੀ ਜਮਕਾਲਿ ॥ |
dhoojai bhaae dhukh paaeiaa sabh johee jamakaal || |
Because of their love of duality, they suffer in pain. The Messenger of Death is watching all. |

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਸਚੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਗੁਣਤਾਸੁ ॥ |

Serving the True Guru, peace is obtained. The True Name is the Treasure of Excellence. |

Conquering my ego, I am lovingly focused on the One Lord; the Naam has come to dwell within me. |

Those who meditate on the True Guru are not afraid of the Messenger of Death. |

ਨਾਨਕ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਕੁਰੂਪਿ ਕੁਸੋਹਣੀ ਪਰਹਰਿ ਛੋਡੀ ਭਤਾਰਿ ॥੧॥ |
naanak bin naavai kuroop kusohanee parehar shhoddee bhathaar ||1|| |
O Nanak, without the Name, she is ugly and ungraceful. She is abandoned and left behind by her Husband Lord. ||1|| |

ਆਪਣੀ ਆਪਿ ਕਰੇ ਪਰਤੀਤਿ ਆਪੇ ਸੇਵ ਘਾਲੀਅਨੁ ॥ |

He Himself inspires us to place our faith in Him. Thus He performs His Own Service. |

ਮੋਰ ਮੋਰ ਕਰਿ ਅਧਿਕ ਲਾਡੁ ਧਰਿ ਪੇਖਤ ਹੀ ਜਮਰਾਉ ਹਸੈ ॥੧॥ |
mor mor kar adhhik laadd dhhar paekhath hee jamaraao hasai ||1|| |
Calling him, ""Mine, mine"", she fondles him lovingly, while the Messenger of Death looks on and laughs. ||1|| |

ਅਉਰ ਦੁਨੀ ਸਭ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਨੀ ਮਨੁ ਰਾਮ ਰਸਾਇਨ ਮਾਤਾ ॥੪॥੩॥ |
aour dhunee sabh bharam bhulaanee man raam rasaaein maathaa ||4||3|| |
All the rest of the world is deluded by doubt, while my mind is intoxicated with the Sublime Essence of the Lord. ||4||3|| |

ravidhaas sam dhal samajhaavai kooo ||3|| |
O Ravi Daas, one who understands that the Lord is equally in all, is very rare. ||3|| |

The Lord God is our Lord and Master, Inaccessible and Unfathomable. Meeting the True Guru, I enjoy the Sublime Essence of the Lord. ||1|| |

When will I meet You, O my Beloved Lord? |

she melts in the Embrace of her Husband Lord. |

thum dhaathae thum purakh bidhhaathae thudhh jaevadd avar n sooraa jeeo ||3|| |
You are the Giver, You are the Architect of Destiny. There is no other warrior as great as You. ||3|| |

ਅਵਰਿ ਸਾਦ ਚਖਿ ਸਗਲੇ ਦੇਖੇ ਮਨ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਸਭ ਤੇ ਮੀਠਾ ਜੀਉ ॥੧॥ |
avar saadh chakh sagalae dhaekhae man har ras sabh thae meethaa jeeo ||1|| |
I have seen and tasted all other flavors, but to my mind, the Subtle Essence of the Lord is the sweetest of all. ||1|| |

ਤੂੰ ਦਾਨਾ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਸਭ ਬਿਧਿ ਜਾਨਹਿ ॥ |

sunee baenanthee thaakur maerai pooran hoee ghaalee jeeo ||2|| |
My Lord and Master has heard my prayer; my efforts have been rewarded. ||2|| |
