| varan chihan sagaleh thae rehathaa || naanak har har guramukh jo kehathaa ||46|| |
| O Nanak, one who becomes Gurmukh chants the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, and rises above all social classes and status symbols. ||46|| |

| ਹਿਤ ਕਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਦ੍ਰਿੜੈ ਦਇਆਲਾ ॥ਸੰਤਹ ਸੰਗਿ ਹੋਤ ਕਿਰਪਾਲਾ ॥ |
| hith kar naam dhrirrai dhaeiaalaa || santheh sang hoth kirapaalaa || |
| He becomes kind to those who lovingly enshrine the Name of the Merciful Lord within their hearts, in the Society of the Saints. |
|
| ਹੇ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਹਉ ਦਾਸਰੋ ਮੈ ਨਿਰਗੁਨ ਗੁਨੁ ਨਹੀ ਕੋਇ ॥ |
| hae thaakur ho dhaasaro mai niragun gun nehee koe || |
| O my Lord and Master, I am Your slave. I am worthless, I have no worth at all. |
|
| ਸੇ ਸਿਮਰਹਿ ਜਿਨ ਆਪਿ ਸਿਮਰਾਏ ॥ |
| sae simarehi jin aap simaraaeae || |
| They alone remember Him in meditation, whom He inspires to meditate. |
|
| ਸਰਣਿ ਤੁਮ੍ਹ੍ਹਾਰੀ ਆਇਓ ਨਾਨਕ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਾਥ ॥੧॥ |
| saran thumhaaree aaeiou naanak kae prabh saathh ||1|| |
| I have come seeking Your Sanctuary. O God, please be with Nanak! ||1|| |

| ਹਰਿ ਕੈ ਨਾਮਿ ਜਨ ਸੋਭਾ ਪਾਈ ॥ |
| har kai naam jan sobhaa paaee || |
| Through the Name of the Lord, His servants obtain honor. |
|
| ਬਹੁਤੁ ਸਿਆਣਪ ਜਮ ਕਾ ਭਉ ਬਿਆਪੈ ॥ |
| bahuth siaanap jam kaa bho biaapai || |
| Even with great cleverness, the fear of death clings to you. |
|
| ਬਿਰਧਿ ਭਇਆ ਊਪਰਿ ਸਾਕ ਸੈਨ ॥ਮੁਖਿ ਅਪਿਆਉ ਬੈਠ ਕਉ ਦੈਨ ॥ |
| biradhh bhaeiaa oopar saak sain || mukh apiaao baith ko dhain || |
| As you grow old, family and friends are there to feed you as you rest. |

| ਝੂਠ ਬਿਕਾਰ ਮਹਾ ਲੋਭ ਧ੍ਰੋਹ ॥ |
| jhooth bikaar mehaa lobh dhhroh || |
| falsehood, corruption, immense greed and deceit: |
|
| ਮਿਥਿਆ ਹਸਤ ਪਰ ਦਰਬ ਕਉ ਹਿਰਹਿ ॥ |
| mithhiaa hasath par dharab ko hirehi || |
| False are the hands which steal the wealth of others. |
|
| ਜਿਹ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਤੁਝੁ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਊ ਮਾਨੈ ॥ |
| jih prasaadh thujh sabh kooo maanai || |
| By His Grace, you are honored by everyone; |
|
| ਆਪਿ ਗਾਵਾਏ ਸੁ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਉ ॥ |
| aap gaavaaeae s har gun gaao || |
| Those, whom He inspires to sing, sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord. |
|
| ਸਾਧ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਸ੍ਰਬ ਥਾਨ ਗੰਮਿ ॥ |
| saadhh kai sang srab thhaan ganm || |
| In the Company of the Holy, all places are within reach. |
|
| ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਸਦਾ ਸਮਦਰਸੀ ॥ |
| breham giaanee sadhaa samadharasee || |
| The God-conscious being is always impartial. |
|
| ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਕਾ ਸਗਲ ਅਕਾਰੁ ॥ |
| breham giaanee kaa sagal akaar || |
| The God-conscious being owns the entire creation. |
|
| ਜਿਸ ਕੈ ਮਨਿ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਕਾ ਨਿਵਾਸੁ ॥ |
| jis kai man paarabreham kaa nivaas || |
| One whose mind is a home for the Supreme Lord God |
|
| ਕਈ ਕੋਟਿ ਸਸੀਅਰ ਸੂਰ ਨਖ੍ਯ੍ਯਤ੍ਰ ॥ |
| kee kott saseear soor nakhyathr || |
| Many millions are the moons, suns and stars. |
|
| ਖਿਨ ਮਹਿ ਥਾਪਿ ਉਥਾਪਨਹਾਰਾ ॥ |
| khin mehi thhaap outhhaapanehaaraa || |
| In an instant, He creates and destroys. |
|
| ਅਨਿਕ ਜੋਨਿ ਭਰਮੈ ਭਰਮੀਆ ॥ |
| anik jon bharamai bharameeaa || |
| They may wander and roam through countless incarnations. |
|
| ਸਹਸ ਖਟੇ ਲਖ ਕਉ ਉਠਿ ਧਾਵੈ ॥ |
| sehas khattae lakh ko outh dhhaavai || |
| Earning a thousand, he runs after a hundred thousand. |
|
| ਸੰਤ ਦੋਖੀ ਕਾ ਥਾਉ ਕੋ ਨਾਹਿ ॥ |
| santh dhokhee kaa thhaao ko naahi || |
| For the slanderer of the Saint, there is no place of rest. |
|
| ਦੂਸਰ ਕਉਨੁ ਕਹੈ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ॥ |
| dhoosar koun kehai beechaar || |
| Who else can speak or deliberate upon this? |
|
| ਆਗਿਆਕਾਰੀ ਧਾਰੀ ਸਭ ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ॥ |
| aagiaakaaree dhhaaree sabh srisatt || |
| all the world is obedient to His Will. |
|
| ਮਨ ਮੂਰਖ ਕਾਹੇ ਬਿਲਲਾਈਐ ॥ |
| man moorakh kaahae bilalaaeeai || |
| O foolish mind, why do you cry and bewail? |
|
| ਸਾਧ ਤੇਰੇ ਕੀ ਚਰਨੀ ਪਾਉ ॥ |
| saadhh thaerae kee charanee paao || |
| To fall at the Feet of Your Holy Beings |
|
| ਆਪੇ ਜਾਨੈ ਅਪਨੀ ਮਿਤਿ ਗਤਿ ॥ |
| aapae jaanai apanee mith gath || |
| He Himself knows His own state and condition. |
|
| ਜਿਸ ਕਾ ਸਾਸੁ ਨ ਕਾਢਤ ਆਪਿ ॥ |
| jis kaa saas n kaadtath aap || |
| Those whose breath of life He Himself does not take away |
|
| ਤਿਸ ਕਉ ਹੋਤ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਸੁਆਮੀ ॥ |
| this ko hoth paraapath suaamee || |
| shall attain his Lord and Master. |
|
| ਭਏ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸ ਸਾਧ ਕੈ ਸੰਗ ॥ |
| bheae pragaas saadhh kai sang || |
| He is revealed in the Company of the Holy. |
|
| ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਰਾਖਹੁ ਮਨ ਮਾਹਿ ॥ |
| charan kamal raakhahu man maahi || |
| Enshrine the Lord's Lotus Feet in your mind; |
|
| ਸੋ ਕਿਉ ਬਿਸਰੈ ਜਿ ਕੀਆ ਜਾਨੈ ॥ |
| so kio bisarai j keeaa jaanai || |
| Why forget Him, who acknowledges what we do? |
|
| ਤਬ ਮੋਹ ਕਹਾ ਕਿਸੁ ਹੋਵਤ ਭਰਮ ॥ |
| thab moh kehaa kis hovath bharam || |
| then where was emotional attachment, and who had doubts? |
|
| ਪਾਪੁ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਤਹ ਭਈ ਕਹਾਵਤ ॥ |
| paap punn theh bhee kehaavath || |
| Sin and virtue then began to be spoken of. |
|
| ਇਹ ਲੋਕ ਸੁਖੀਏ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਸੁਹੇਲੇ ॥ |
| eih lok sukheeeae paralok suhaelae || |
| He is at peace in this world, and happy in the next. |
|
| ਸਰਬ ਲੋਕ ਪੂਰਨ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲ ॥ |
| sarab lok pooran prathipaal || |
| in all worlds, He is the Perfect Cherisher. |
|
| ਧੰਨੁ ਧੰਨੁ ਧੰਨੁ ਜਨੁ ਆਇਆ ॥ |
| dhhann dhhann dhhann jan aaeiaa || |
| Blessed, blessed, blessed is the coming of that humble being; |
|
| ਬਿਦਿਆ ਤਪੁ ਜੋਗੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਧਿਆਨੁ ॥ |
| bidhiaa thap jog prabh dhhiaan || |
| learning, penance, Yoga and meditation on God; |
|
| ਆਪੁ ਤਜਹੁ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਭਜਹੁ ਭਾਉ ਭਗਤਿ ਪਰਵੇਸ ॥ |
| aap thajahu gobindh bhajahu bhaao bhagath paravaes || |
| Renounce your self-conceit and vibrate upon the Lord of the Universe; loving devotion to Him shall permeate your being. |

| ਖਸਟਮਿ ਖਟ ਸਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਕਹਹਿ ਸਿੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਕਥਹਿ ਅਨੇਕ ॥ |
| khasattam khatt saasathr kehehi sinmrith kathhehi anaek || |
| The sixth day of the lunar cycle: The six Shaastras say, and countless Simritees assert, |
|
| ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਚਿਤਵੈ ਪੂਰਨ ਭਗਵੰਤ ॥ |
| man mehi chithavai pooran bhagavanth || |
| In your mind, remember the Perfect Lord God. |
|
| ਅਮਾਵਸ ਆਤਮ ਸੁਖੀ ਭਏ ਸੰਤੋਖੁ ਦੀਆ ਗੁਰਦੇਵ ॥ |
| amaavas aatham sukhee bheae santhokh dheeaa guradhaev || |
| The day of the new moon: My soul is at peace; the Divine Guru has blessed me with contentment. |

| ਹਉਮੈ ਮੈਲੁ ਬਿਖੁ ਉਤਰੈ ਹਰਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਹਰਿ ਉਰ ਧਾਰਿ ॥ |

| The poisonous filth of egotism is removed, when one enshrines the Ambrosial Name of the Lord within the heart. |

| ਤੂ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਅਗਮੁ ਦਇਆਲੁ ਹੈ ਸਭਿ ਤੁਧੁ ਧਿਆਹੀ ॥ |
| thoo saahib agam dhaeiaal hai sabh thudhh dhhiaahee || |
| O Lord and Master, You are inaccessible and merciful. Everyone meditates on You. |

| ਇਕਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਾ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਖੋਟੁ ਨਿਤ ਖੋਟੁ ਕਮਾਵਹਿ ਓਹੁ ਜੇਹਾ ਬੀਜੇ ਤੇਹਾ ਫਲੁ ਖਾਏ ॥ |
| eikanhaa andhar khott nith khott kamaavehi ouhu jaehaa beejae thaehaa fal khaaeae || |
| Some have cruelty in their hearts - they constantly act in cruelty; as they plant, so are the fruits which they eat. |

| ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਇ ਸੁ ਅਲਿਪਤੋ ਵਰਤੈ ਓਸ ਦਾ ਪਾਸੁ ਛਡਿ ਗੁਰ ਪਾਸਿ ਬਹਿ ਜਾਇਆ ॥ |
| guramukh hoe s alipatho varathai ous dhaa paas shhadd gur paas behi jaaeiaa || |
| Those who become Gurmukh avoid him; they forsake his company and sit hear the Guru. |
|
| ਜਿਨ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਕਪਟੁ ਵਿਕਾਰੁ ਝੂਠੁ ਓਇ ਆਪੇ ਸਚੈ ਵਖਿ ਕਢੇ ਜਜਮਾਲੇ ॥ |
| jin andhar kapatt vikaar jhooth oue aapae sachai vakh kadtae jajamaalae || |
| Those who have deceit, corruption and falsehood within - the True Lord Himself casts them out like lepers. |

| ਜੋ ਸਾਸਿ ਗਿਰਾਸਿ ਧਿਆਏ ਮੇਰਾ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਸੋ ਗੁਰਸਿਖੁ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਵੈ ॥ |
| jo saas giraas dhhiaaeae maeraa har har so gurasikh guroo man bhaavai || |
| One who meditates on my Lord, Har, Har, with every breath and every morsel of food - that GurSikh becomes pleasing to the Guru's Mind. |
