ਮਨ ਸੋ ਸੇਵੀਐ ਹਾਂ ॥ |
man so saeveeai haan || |
O my mind, serve Him. |

ਜਾ ਸਿਉ ਰਚਿ ਰਹੇ ਹਾਂ ॥ |
jaa sio rach rehae haan || |
Whatever you are attached to, |
 |
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥ |
anthar baahar avar n koe || |
Inwardly and outwardly, there is none other than Him. |
 |
ਤੂ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਸਚੁ ਗੁਣੀ ਗਹੀਰੁ ॥ |
thoo niramal sach gunee geheer || |
You are immaculate and pure, the true treasure of virtue. |
 |
ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਵਾਟ ਮਹਲੁ ਘਰੁ ਪਾਏ ॥੩॥ |
gur thae vaatt mehal ghar paaeae ||3|| |
Through the Guru, he finds the Path home, to the Mansion of the Lord's Presence. ||3|| |

ਜਹਾਂ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਤਹ ਜਾਉ ॥ |
jehaan naam milai theh jaao || |
Go there, where you may obtain the Naam, the Name of the Lord. |
 |
ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਕੇ ਦਾਸਨਿ ਦਾਸਾ ॥੯॥੮॥ |
naanak har jan kae dhaasan dhaasaa ||9||8|| |
Nanak is the humble servant of the slave of the Lord's slaves. ||9||8|| |

ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਰਾਖੇ ਬੰਧੁ ਨ ਪਾਈ ॥੮॥੧੦॥ |
sathigur raakhae bandhh n paaee ||8||10|| |
One who is saved by the True Guru, does not suffer entanglement. ||8||10|| |

ਕੋਟੀ ਹੂ ਪੀਰ ਵਰਜਿ ਰਹਾਏ ਜਾ ਮੀਰੁ ਸੁਣਿਆ ਧਾਇਆ ॥ |
kottee hoo peer varaj rehaaeae jaa meer suniaa dhhaaeiaa || |
Millions of religious leaders failed to halt the invader, when they heard of the Emperor's invasion. |

ਮੈ ਇਕੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਵੀਸਰੈ ਸਾਚੇ ਗੁਰ ਬੁਧਿ ॥੨॥ |
mai eik naam n veesarai saachae gur budhh ||2|| |
May I never forget the Naam, the Name of the One Lord. This is the wisdom of the True Guru. ||2|| |

ਲਾਹਾ ਪਲੈ ਪਾਇ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਸਿਞਾਣੀਐ ॥੪॥ |
laahaa palai paae hukam sinjaaneeai ||4|| |
He obtains the true profit, realizing the Lord's Command. ||4|| |

ਤਾ ਕੀ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਨਾ ਪਵੈ ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸੇਵੈ ॥੬॥ |
thaa kee keemath naa pavai bin gur kee saevai ||6|| |
He never realizes his own value, without serving the Guru. ||6|| |

ਲੋਕਾ ਦਾ ਕਿਆ ਜਾਇ ਜਾ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਣਿਆ ॥੧॥ |
lokaa dhaa kiaa jaae jaa thudhh bhaaniaa ||1|| |
What would the people lose, if I became pleasing to You, O Lord? ||1|| |

ਤੇਤੀਸ ਕਰੋੜੀ ਦਾਸ ਤੁਮ੍ਹ੍ਹਾਰੇ ਰਿਧਿ ਸਿਧਿ ਪ੍ਰਾਣ ਅਧਾਰੀ ॥ |
thaethees karorree dhaas thumhaarae ridhh sidhh praan adhhaaree || |
Three hundred thirty million gods are Your servants. You bestow wealth, and the supernatural powers of the Siddhas; You are the Support of the breath of life. |

ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਬੁਝਾਇਆ ਵਿਣੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਭੁਖ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥ |
sathigur naam bujhaaeiaa vin naavai bhukh n jaaee || |
The True Guru has led me to understand the Naam, the Name of the Lord; without the Naam, hunger does not go away. |

ਕਿਲਵਿਖ ਪਾਪ ਸਭ ਕਟੀਅਹਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਦੁਖੁ ਬਿਘਨੁ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥੭॥ |
kilavikh paap sabh katteeahi fir dhukh bighan n hoee ||7|| |
All sins and vices are eradicated, and one shall never again suffer pain or distress. ||7|| |

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇ ਤੂੰ ਦਰਿ ਸਚੈ ਸੋਭਾ ਪਾਈ ॥੮॥੬॥੨੮॥ |
naanak naam dhhiaae thoon dhar sachai sobhaa paaee ||8||6||28|| |
O Nanak, meditate on the Naam, the Name of the Lord, and you shall obtain glory in the True Court. ||8||6||28|| |

ਐਥੈ ਘਰਿ ਘਰਿ ਜਾਪਦੇ ਆਗੈ ਜੁਗਿ ਜੁਗਿ ਪਰਗਟੁ ਹੋਇ ॥੧॥ |
aithhai ghar ghar jaapadhae aagai jug jug paragatt hoe ||1|| |
Here, they are known in each and every home, and hereafter, they are famous throughout the ages. ||1|| |

ਸਚਿ ਰਤੀਆ ਸੋਹਾਗਣੀ ਜਿਨਾ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੀਗਾਰਿ ॥ |
sach ratheeaa sohaaganee jinaa gur kai sabadh seegaar || |
The happy soul-brides are imbued with Truth; they are adorned with the Word of the Guru's Shabad. |

ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਗੁਣ ਊਪਜੈ ਜਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਮੇਲੈ ਸੋਇ ॥ |
sathigur thae gun oopajai jaa prabh maelai soe || |
Merit is obtained from the True Guru, when God causes us to meet Him. |

ਸਦਾ ਸਰਣਾਈ ਤਿਸ ਕੀ ਜਿਉ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਉ ਕਾਰਜੁ ਸਾਰਿ ॥੮॥ |
sadhaa saranaaee this kee jio bhaavai thio kaaraj saar ||8|| |
They remain forever in the Protection of His Sanctuary. As it pleases His Will, He arranges their affairs. ||8|| |

ਅਬਿਚਲ ਨਗਰੀ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੇਵ ॥੮॥੧॥ |
abichal nagaree naanak dhaev ||8||1|| |
O Nanak, the Divine City is eternal. ||8||1|| |

ਸਾਚੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਨ ਤੁਟਈ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਜੁਗੁ ਜੁਗੁ ਰਹੀ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੬॥ |
saachee preeth n thuttee piaarae jug jug rehee samaae ||6|| |
True Love cannot be broken, O Beloved; throughout the ages, it remains. ||6|| |

ਜੁਗੁ ਜੁਗੁ ਜੋਗੀ ਖਾਣੀ ਭੋਗੀ ਪੜਿਆ ਪੰਡਿਤੁ ਆਪਿ ਥੀਆ ॥੯॥ |
jug jug jogee khaanee bhogee parriaa panddith aap thheeaa ||9|| |
- through each and every age, He Himself has been the Yogi, the enjoyer, the Pandit and the scholar. ||9|| |

ਬਬੈ ਬਾਜੀ ਖੇਲਣ ਲਾਗਾ ਚਉਪੜਿ ਕੀਤੇ ਚਾਰਿ ਜੁਗਾ ॥ |
babai baajee khaelan laagaa chouparr keethae chaar jugaa || |
Babba: He set out to play the game, on the chess-board of the four ages. |

ਤੁਧੁ ਸਿਰਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਸੋ ਪੜੁ ਪੰਡਿਤ ਅਵਰਾ ਨੋ ਨ ਸਿਖਾਲਿ ਬਿਖਿਆ ॥ |
thudhh sir likhiaa so parr panddith avaraa no n sikhaal bikhiaa || |
Read that which is written on your forehead, O Pandit, and do not teach wickedness to others. |

ਧਨ ਪਿਰ ਨੇਹੁ ਘਣਾ ਰਸਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਦਇਆਲਾ ਰਾਮ ॥ |
dhhan pir naehu ghanaa ras preeth dhaeiaalaa raam || |
When the bride enshrines great love for her Husband Lord, He becomes merciful, and loves her in return. |

ਗੁਰੁ ਸਾਗਰੋ ਰਤਨਾਗਰੁ ਤਿਤੁ ਰਤਨ ਘਣੇਰੇ ਰਾਮ ॥ |
gur saagaro rathanaagar thith rathan ghanaerae raam || |
The Guru is the ocean, the mountain of jewels, overflowing with jewels. |

ਨਾਨਕ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰਿ ਪਤੀਣੇ ਵਿਰਲੇ ਦਾਸ ਉਦਾਸਾ ॥੪॥੩॥ |
naanak houmai maar patheenae viralae dhaas oudhaasaa ||4||3|| |
O Nanak, how rare is that unattached servant, who conquers his ego, and remains pleased with the Lord. ||4||3|| |

ਫਿਰਿ ਹੋਇ ਤਾਤਾ ਖਰਾ ਮਾਤਾ ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨੁ ਪਰਤਾਪਏ ॥ |
fir hoe thaathaa kharaa maathaa naam bin parathaapeae || |
That fruit which intoxicated you has now become bitter and painful, without the Naam. |

ਨਾਨਕ ਵਿਣੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਕਾਮਣਿ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਣੀ ਮਿਲਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਏ ॥੨॥ |
naanak vin naavai kaaman bharam bhulaanee mil preetham sukh paaeae ||2|| |
O Nanak, without the Name, the soul-bride wanders around, deluded by doubt. Meeting her Beloved, she obtains peace. ||2|| |

ਨਾਮੁ ਵਿਹਾਝੇ ਨਾਮੁ ਲਏ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਹੇ ਸਮਾਏ ॥ |
naam vihaajhae naam leae naam rehae samaaeae || |
It purchases the Naam, chants the Naam, and remains absorbed in the Naam. |

ਇਉ ਕਹੈ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਕਿਆ ਜੰਤ ਵਿਚਾਰੇ ਜਾ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਏ ॥੯॥ |
eio kehai naanak kiaa janth vichaarae jaa thudhh bharam bhulaaeae ||9|| |
Thus says Nanak: what can the poor creatures do, when You mislead them into doubt? ||9|| |

ਝਿਮਿ ਝਿਮੇ ਝਿਮਿ ਝਿਮਿ ਵਰਸੈ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਧਾਰਾ ਰਾਮ ॥ |
jhim jhimae jhim jhim varasai anmrith dhhaaraa raam || |
Slowly, slowly, slowly, very slowly, the drops of Ambrosial Nectar trickle down. |

ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਕਬੁਧਿ ਗਈ ਸੁਧਿ ਹੋਈ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮਿ ਮਨੁ ਲਾਏ ॥ |
dhuramath kabudhh gee sudhh hoee raam naam man laaeae || |
Evil-mindedness and duality depart, and their understanding is enlightened. They attach their minds to the Name of the Lord. |

ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਲਗਾਈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਖਾਈ ਭ੍ਰਮੁ ਚੂਕਾ ਆਵਣੁ ਜਾਣੁ ਜੀਉ ॥ |
har preeth lagaaee har naam sakhaaee bhram chookaa aavan jaan jeeo || |
He embraces love for the Lord, and the Lord's Name becomes his companion. His doubts, and his comings and goings are ended. |

ਜੁਗੁ ਦੁਆਪੁਰੁ ਆਇਆ ਭਰਮਿ ਭਰਮਾਇਆ ਹਰਿ ਗੋਪੀ ਕਾਨ੍ਹ੍ਹੁ ਉਪਾਇ ਜੀਉ ॥੩॥ |
jug dhuaapur aaeiaa bharam bharamaaeiaa har gopee kaanha oupaae jeeo ||3|| |
The Brass Age of Dwaapar Yuga came, and the people wandered in doubt. The Lord created the Gopis and Krishna. ||3|| |

ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਬਾਂਹ ਪਕਰਾਈ ਊਤਮ ਮਤਿ ਪਾਈ ਗੁਰ ਚਰਣੀ ਜਨੁ ਲਾਗਾ ॥ |
prabh baanh pakaraaee ootham math paaee gur charanee jan laagaa || |
God took me by the arm, and I obtained the highest understanding; as His slave, I grasped the Guru's feet. |

ਜਗੁ ਉਪਜੈ ਬਿਨਸੈ ਬਿਨਸਿ ਬਿਨਾਸੈ ਲਗਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਅਸਥਿਰੁ ਹੋਇ ਜੀਉ ॥੪॥੬॥੧੩॥ |
jag oupajai binasai binas binaasai lag guramukh asathhir hoe jeeo ||4||6||13|| |
The people of the world are born, only to perish, and perish, and perish again. Only by attaching oneself to the Lord as Gurmukh, does one become permanent. ||4||6||13|| |

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਰੰਗਿ ਚਲੂਲਿਆ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨੁ ਤਨੋ ਭਿੰਨਾ ॥ |
guramukh rang chalooliaa maeraa man thano bhinnaa || |
As Gurmukh, I am dyed in the deep red of the poppy, and my mind and body are drenched with His Love. |

ਜੋ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਭਾਂਡੇ ਵਿਚਿ ਵਸਤੁ ਸਾ ਨਿਕਲੈ ਕਿਆ ਕੋਈ ਕਰੇ ਵੇਚਾਰਾ ॥ |
jo paavehi bhaanddae vich vasath saa nikalai kiaa koee karae vaechaaraa || |
Whatever You place in that vessel, that alone comes out again. What can the poor creatures do? |

ਗੁਰਸਿਖਾ ਮਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਹੈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਹਰਿ ਤੇਰੀ ਰਾਮ ਰਾਜੇ ॥ |
gurasikhaa man har preeth hai har naam har thaeree raam raajae || |
The Guru's Sikh keeps the Love of the Lord, and the Name of the Lord, in his mind. He loves You, O Lord, O Lord King. |

ਭਾਗ ਮਣੀ ਸੋਹਾਗਣਿ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਉਰਿ ਧਾਰੇ ॥੨॥ |
bhaag manee sohaagan maerae piaarae naanak har our dhhaarae ||2|| |
The virtuous bride realizes the good fortune of her destiny, O my dear beloved; O Nanak, she enshrines the Lord within her heart. ||2|| |

ਸਰਸਿਅੜੇ ਸਰਸਿਅੜੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਭਾਈ ਸਭ ਮੀਤਾ ਰਾਮ ॥ |
sarasiarrae sarasiarrae maerae bhaaee sabh meethaa raam || |
Over-joyed - over-joyed are all my brothers and friends. |

ਗੁਣ ਨਿਧਿ ਗਾਇਆ ਸਭ ਦੂਖ ਮਿਟਾਇਆ ਹਉਮੈ ਬਿਨਸੀ ਗਾਠੇ ॥ |
gun nidhh gaaeiaa sabh dhookh mittaaeiaa houmai binasee gaathae || |
Singing the Praises of the Lord, the treasure of virtue, all my pains are erased, and the knot of ego has been untied. |

ਜੈਸੀ ਮਛੁਲੀ ਨੀਰ ਇਕੁ ਖਿਨੁ ਭੀ ਨਾ ਧੀਰੇ ਮਨ ਐਸਾ ਨੇਹੁ ਕਰੇਹੁ ॥ |
jaisee mashhulee neer eik khin bhee naa dhheerae man aisaa naehu karaehu || |
As the fish loves the water, and is not content even for an instant outside it, O my mind, love the Lord in this way. |

ਕੋਟਿ ਦੇਵੀ ਜਾ ਕਉ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਲਖਿਮੀ ਅਨਿਕ ਭਾਤਿ ॥ |
kott dhaevee jaa ko saevehi lakhimee anik bhaath || |
Millions of gods and goddesses of wealth serve Him in so many ways. |

ਆਨੰਦ ਹਰਿ ਜਸ ਮਹਾ ਮੰਗਲ ਸਰਬ ਦੂਖ ਵਿਸਾਰਿਆ ॥ |
aanandh har jas mehaa mangal sarab dhookh visaariaa || |
In the ecstasy of the Lord's Praises, they obtain supreme joy, and forget all their sorrows. |

ਕਰ ਜੋੜਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਨੁ ਮਾਗੈ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਨਿਵਾਰਿ ਲੇਹੁ ॥੧॥ |
kar jorr naanak dhaan maagai janam maran nivaar laehu ||1|| |
With palms pressed together, Nanak begs for this blessing: O Lord, let my cycle of birth and death come to an end. ||1|| |
