| ਦਿਨੁ ਰੈਣਿ ਸੁਹਾਵੜੀ ਆਈ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਹਰੇ ॥ |

| Day and night, become beauteous by remembering the Naam, the Name of the Lord. |

| than bhasam dtaeree jamehi haeree kaal bapurrai jithiaa || |
| Your body shall become a pile of dust; the Messenger of Death has spotted you, and will conquer you. |

| ਬਿਨਵੰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਸਗਲ ਆਸ ਪੁਜਾਇਣ ॥੩॥ |
| binavanth naanak simar suaamee sagal aas pujaaein ||3|| |
| Prays Nanak, remembering the Lord and Master in meditation, all hopes are fulfilled. ||3|| |

| ਦਿਨ ਖਾਤ ਜਾਤ ਬਿਹਾਤ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਬਿਨੁ ਮਿਲਹੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਰੁਣਾ ਪਤੇ ॥ |
| dhin khaath jaath bihaath prabh bin milahu prabh karunaa pathae || |
| The days of your life are being consumed; they are passing away without God. So meet God, the Merciful Lord. |

| ਜਿਨਿ ਮਾਣਸ ਤੇ ਦੇਵਤੇ ਕੀਏ ਕਰਤ ਨ ਲਾਗੀ ਵਾਰ ॥੧॥ |
| jin maanas thae dhaevathae keeeae karath n laagee vaar ||1|| |
| He made angels out of men, without delay. ||1|| |
|
| ਵਿਸਮਾਦੁ ਨਾਗੇ ਫਿਰਹਿ ਜੰਤ ॥ |
| visamaadh naagae firehi janth || |
| Wonderful are the beings who wander around naked. |
|
| ਜਿਤੁ ਤਨਿ ਪਾਈਅਹਿ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਸੇ ਤਨ ਹੋਵਹਿ ਛਾਰ ॥ |
| jith than paaeeahi naanakaa sae than hovehi shhaar || |
| Those bodies on which they are worn, O Nanak, those bodies turn to ashes. |

| ਜੋਗੀ ਸੁੰਨਿ ਧਿਆਵਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ ਜੇਤੇ ਅਲਖ ਨਾਮੁ ਕਰਤਾਰੁ ॥ |
| jogee sunn dhhiaavanih jaethae alakh naam karathaar || |
| The Yogis meditate on the absolute Lord there; they call the Creator the Unseen Lord. |
|
| ਸੇਵ ਕੀਤੀ ਸੰਤੋਖੀੲਂੀ ਜਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹੀ ਸਚੋ ਸਚੁ ਧਿਆਇਆ ॥ |
| saev keethee santhokheeeanaee jinhee sacho sach dhhiaaeiaa || |
| Those who serve are content. They meditate on the Truest of the True. |
|
| ਅੰਧੁ ਨ ਜਾਣੈ ਫਿਰਿ ਪਛੁਤਾਣੀ ॥ |
| andhh n jaanai fir pashhuthaanee || |
| - that blind man does not know the Lord; he regrets and repents in the end. |
|
| ਕਾਮੁ ਨੇਬੁ ਸਦਿ ਪੁਛੀਐ ਬਹਿ ਬਹਿ ਕਰੇ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ॥ |
| kaam naeb sadh pushheeai behi behi karae beechaar || |
| Sexual desire, the chief advisor, is summoned and consulted; they all sit together and contemplate their plans. |

| ਮੁਹਿ ਚਲੈ ਸੁ ਅਗੈ ਮਾਰੀਐ ॥੧੨॥ |
| muhi chalai s agai maareeai ||12|| |
| One who stubbornly follows his own mind shall suffer in the world hereafter. ||12|| |
|
| ਹੁਕਮ ਕੀਏ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਵਦੇ ਰਾਹਿ ਭੀੜੈ ਅਗੈ ਜਾਵਣਾ ॥ |
| hukam keeeae man bhaavadhae raahi bheerrai agai jaavanaa || |
| He may issue whatever commands he wishes, but he shall have to take to the narrow path hereafter. |
|
| ਹਥਿ ਛੁਰੀ ਜਗਤ ਕਾਸਾਈ ॥ |
| hathh shhuree jagath kaasaaee || |
| in their hands they hold the knives - they are the butchers of the world! |
|
| ਨਾਨਕ ਜਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹੀ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਬੁਝਿਆ ਤਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਾ ਸੂਤਕੁ ਨਾਹਿ ॥੩॥ |
| naanak jinhee guramukh bujhiaa thinhaa soothak naahi ||3|| |
| O Nanak, the Gurmukhs, who understand the Lord, are not stained by impurity. ||3|| |

| ਦਰਿ ਲਏ ਲੇਖਾ ਪੀੜਿ ਛੁਟੈ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਜਿਉ ਤੇਲੁ ॥੨॥ |
| dhar leae laekhaa peerr shhuttai naanakaa jio thael ||2|| |
| In the Court of the Lord, the accounts are examined; O Nanak, the sinners are crushed, like oil seeds in the press. ||2|| |
|
| ਏਹ ਕਿਨੇਹੀ ਦਾਤਿ ਆਪਸ ਤੇ ਜੋ ਪਾਈਐ ॥ |
| eaeh kinaehee dhaath aapas thae jo paaeeai || |
| What sort of gift is this, which we receive only by our own asking? |

| ਕਹੁ ਕਬੀਰ ਐਸਾ ਗੁਣ ਭ੍ਰਮੁ ਭਾਗਾ ਤਉ ਮਨੁ ਸੁੰਨਿ ਸਮਾਨਾਂ ॥੪॥੧॥ |
| kahu kabeer aisaa gun bhram bhaagaa tho man sunn samaanaan ||4||1|| |
| says Kabeer, just so virtue dispels doubt, and then the soul is absorbed in the profound, absolute Lord. ||4||1|| |
|
| ਆਗਮ ਨਿਰਗਮ ਜੋਤਿਕ ਜਾਨਹਿ ਬਹੁ ਬਹੁ ਬਿਆਕਰਨਾ ॥ |
| aagam niragam jothik jaanehi bahu bahu biaakaranaa || |
| Those who know the Shaastras and the Vedas, astrology and the rules of grammar of many languages; |

| ਜਬ ਲਗੁ ਤੇਲੁ ਦੀਵੇ ਮੁਖਿ ਬਾਤੀ ਤਬ ਸੂਝੈ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਈ ॥ |
| jab lag thael dheevae mukh baathee thab soojhai sabh koee || |
| As long as the oil and the wick are in the lamp, everything is illuminated. |
|
| ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਮੇਰੈ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਵਤਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| har kaa naam maerai man bhaavathaa hai ||1|| rehaao || |
| The Name of the Lord is pleasing to my mind. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਸੂਮਹਿ ਧਨੁ ਰਾਖਨ ਕਉ ਦੀਆ ਮੁਗਧੁ ਕਹੈ ਧਨੁ ਮੇਰਾ ॥ |
| soomehi dhhan raakhan ko dheeaa mugadhh kehai dhhan maeraa || |
| God gave wealth to the miser for him to preserve, but the fool calls it his own. |
|
| ਸ੍ਰਪਨੀ ਜੀਤੀ ਕਹਾ ਕਰੈ ਜਮਰਾ ॥੩॥ |
| srapanee jeethee kehaa karai jamaraa ||3|| |
| When the she-serpent is overcome, what can the Messengers of the King of Death do? ||3|| |

| ਜਾ ਜਮੁ ਆਇ ਝੋਟ ਪਕਰੈ ਤਬਹਿ ਕਾਹੇ ਰੋਇਆ ॥੨॥ |
| jaa jam aae jhott pakarai thabehi kaahae roeiaa ||2|| |
| When the Messenger of Death comes and grabs you by your hair, why do you cry out then? ||2|| |

| The younger bride is with me now, and the elder one has taken another husband. ||2||2||32|| |

| ਕਹਿ ਕਬੀਰ ਨਰ ਤਿਸਹਿ ਧਿਆਵਹੁ ਬਾਵਰਿਆ ਸੰਸਾਰਾ ॥੪॥੪॥੩੭॥ |
| kehi kabeer nar thisehi dhhiaavahu baavariaa sansaaraa ||4||4||37|| |
| Says Kabeer, meditate on Him, O mad-men of the world. ||4||4||37|| |

| ਨਾਮੇ ਕੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਲਾਹਿ ਲੇ ਝਗਰਾ ॥ |
| naamae kae suaamee laahi lae jhagaraa || |
| Naam Dayv's Lord and Master has settled my inner conflicts. |

| ਸੰਪਤਿ ਬਿਪਤਿ ਪਟਲ ਮਾਇਆ ਧਨੁ ॥ |
| sanpath bipath pattal maaeiaa dhhan || |
| Prosperity, adversity, property and wealth are just Maya. |
|
| ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਸਿਆ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਭਗਤਾ ਮਹਿ ਗਨਿਆ ॥੩॥ |
| hiradhae vasiaa paarabreham bhagathaa mehi ganiaa ||3|| |
| The Supreme Lord God dwelled in his heart, and he was counted among the devotees. ||3|| |
|
| ਜਾਲਣ ਗੋਰਾਂ ਨਾਲਿ ਉਲਾਮੇ ਜੀਅ ਸਹੇ ॥੮॥੨॥ |
| jaalan goraan naal oulaamae jeea sehae ||8||2|| |
| Some have been cremated, and some lie in their graves; their souls are suffering rebukes. ||8||2|| |

| ਨਾਨਕ ਸਹਜਿ ਮਿਲੇ ਜਗਜੀਵਨ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰਹੁ ਨਿਸਤਾਰਾ ॥੪॥੨॥ |
| naanak sehaj milae jagajeevan nadhar karahu nisathaaraa ||4||2|| |
| Nanak merges imperceptibly into the Life of the world; shower Your mercy upon him, and save him. ||4||2|| |

| ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਗੁਰੁ ਹੋਇਆ ਵੇਖਹੁ ਤਿਸ ਕੀ ਰਜਾਇ ॥ |

| O Nanak, through the Guru, one becomes the Guru; behold, His Wondrous Will. |

| ਜੋ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਸਭੁ ਸਚੁ ਹੈ ਸਚੇ ਰਹੈ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੫॥੬॥੮॥ |
| jo thudhh bhaavai sabh sach hai sachae rehai samaae ||5||6||8|| |
| Those who are pleasing to You, O True Lord, are true. They remain absorbed in You. ||5||6||8|| |

| ਜਨ ਕਉ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਆਧਾਰਾ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਤ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੇ ਸੋਹੈ ॥੨॥ |
| jan ko raam naam aadhhaaraa har naam japath har naamae sohai ||2|| |
| The Lord's Name is the Support of His humble servant; he chants the Lord's Name, and with the Lord's Name he is adorned. ||2|| |

| ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਸਖਾ ਗੁਰ ਕੇ ਸਿਖ ਭਾਈ ਮੋ ਕਉ ਕਰਹੁ ਉਪਦੇਸੁ ਹਰਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| maerae praan sakhaa gur kae sikh bhaaee mo ko karahu oupadhaes har milai milaaeiaa ||1|| rehaao || |
| O my life-mates, O Sikhs of the Guru, O Siblings of Destiny, instruct me in the Teachings, that I might merge in the Lord's Merger. ||1||Pause|| |

| The wealth of the Lord is my raft, the wealth of the Lord is my boat; the Lord, Har, Har, is the ship to carry me across. ||2|| |

| ਭਏ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲ ਦਇਆਲ ਗੁਪਾਲਾ ਤਾ ਨਿਰਭੈ ਕੈ ਘਰਿ ਆਇਆ ॥ |
| bheae kirapaal dhaeiaal gupaalaa thaa nirabhai kai ghar aaeiaa || |
| When the Lord of the Universe becomes kind and compassionate, then one enters the home of the Fearless Lord. |

| ਭਏ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲ ਦਇਆਲ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਛੂਟੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| bheae kirapaal dhaeiaal prabh maerae saadhhasangath mil shhoottae ||1|| rehaao || |
| When my God becomes kind and compassionate, one joins the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, and is emancipated. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਤੀਨਿ ਦੇਵ ਅਰੁ ਕੋੜਿ ਤੇਤੀਸਾ ਤਿਨ ਕੀ ਹੈਰਤਿ ਕਛੁ ਨ ਰਹੀ ॥੧॥ |
| theen dhaev ar korr thaetheesaa thin kee hairath kashh n rehee ||1|| |
| The three gods, and the 330,000,000 demi-gods, were astonished. ||1|| |

| ਨਾਨਕ ਟੇਕ ਭਈ ਕਰਤੇ ਕੀ ਹੋਰ ਆਸ ਬਿਡਾਣੀ ਲਾਹੀ ॥੨॥੧੦॥੧੯॥ |
| naanak ttaek bhee karathae kee hor aas biddaanee laahee ||2||10||19|| |
| O Nanak, my support is the Creator Lord; I have renounced all other hopes. ||2||10||19|| |

| You never focused your consciousness on the Lord. |

| gur prasaadhee prabh dhhiaaeiaa gee sankaa thoott || |
| By Guru's Grace, I meditate on God, and my doubts are gone. |

| ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਿ ਲਗੇ ਹਰਿ ਚਰਨੀ ਵਡੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਗੀ ॥ |
| sathigur saev lagae har charanee vaddai bhaag liv laagee || |
| Serving the True Guru, I am attached to the Lord's Lotus Feet; by great good fortune, I have embraced love for Him. |

| ਸਰਬ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਲੋਚਨ ਅਭ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਏਕਾ ਨਦਰਿ ਸੁ ਤ੍ਰਿਭਵਣ ਸਾਰ ॥੩॥ |
| sarab dhrisatt lochan abh anthar eaekaa nadhar s thribhavan saar ||3|| |
| The eyes within the mind which see everything - with one glance, they see the three worlds. ||3|| |

| ਭਾਈ ਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਭਗਤਿ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਕੀ ॥ |
| bhaaee rae gur kirapaa thae bhagath thaakur kee || |
| O Siblings of Destiny, by Guru's Grace, I perform devotional worship to my Lord and Master. |

| ਭੈ ਭਾਇ ਭਗਤਿ ਤਰੁ ਭਵਜਲੁ ਮਨਾ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਇ ਹਰਿ ਚਰਣੀ ॥ |
| bhai bhaae bhagath thar bhavajal manaa chith laae har charanee || |
| By the Fear of God, and Love of God, and by devotion, man crosses over the terrifying world-ocean, focusing his consciousness on the Lord's Lotus Feet. |

| ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਜਲੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਤੁਮਾਰੀ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| guramukh naam anmrith jal paaeeai jin ko kirapaa thumaaree || rehaao || |
| The Gurmukhs obtain the Ambrosial Water of the Naam, the Name of the Lord. You bless them with Your Grace. ||Pause|| |

| ਆਗਿਆ ਮਹਿ ਤੇਰੀ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਆਗਿਆ ਹੁਕਮਨ ਸਿਰਿ ਹੁਕਮਾ ॥੭॥ |
| aagiaa mehi thaeree prabh aagiaa hukaman sir hukamaa ||7|| |
| Among wills, Your Will, God, is the Supreme Will. Of commands, Yours is the Supreme Command. ||7|| |
