| The lion becomes a cat, and the mountain looks like a blade of grass. |

| ਨਿਸਿ ਬਾਸੁਰ ਮਨਿ ਅਨਦੁ ਹੋਤ ਚਿਤਵਤ ਕਿਰਪਾਲ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |

| aap rakhai aap dhaevasee aapae prathipaarai || |
| He Himself preserves, and He Himself gives. He Himself cherishes. |

| ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਵਸੈ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਪਾਏ ॥੧॥ |
| saadhhasangath kai sang vasai vaddabhaagee paaeae ||1|| |
| He dwells with the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy; by great good fortune, he finds the Lord. ||1|| |
|
| ਨੀਚੁ ਅਨਾਥੁ ਅਜਾਨੁ ਮੈ ਨਿਰਗੁਨੁ ਗੁਣਹੀਨੁ ॥ |
| neech anaathh ajaan mai niragun guneheen || |
| I am lowly, without a master, ignorant, worthless and without virtue. |

| ਪਰਉਪਕਾਰੁ ਨਿਤ ਚਿਤਵਤੇ ਨਾਹੀ ਕਛੁ ਪੋਚ ॥੨॥ |
| paroupakaar nith chithavathae naahee kashh poch ||2|| |
| Those who continually remember the Lord, do good deeds for others; they harbor no ill will towards anyone. ||2|| |

| rakhavaalaa gobindh raae bhagathan kee raas ||1|| |
| The Sovereign Lord of the Universe is the Saving Grace, the Protector of the capital of His devotees. ||1|| |

| ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਜੋ ਜਨੁ ਜਪੈ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਸਦ ਜਾਗੈ ॥ |
| raam naam jo jan japai anadhin sadh jaagai || |
| That humble being who chants the Lord's Name, remains always awake and aware, night and day. |

| ਸਗਲ ਮਨੋਰਥ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਕੀਏ ਭੇਟੇ ਗੁਰਦੇਵ ॥ |
| sagal manorathh prabh keeeae bhaettae guradhaev || |
| God has fulfilled all hopes and desires; I have met the Divine Guru. |

| ਸੁਖ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਸਹਜ ਆਨਦ ਭਏ ਪੂਰਨ ਭਈ ਸੇਵ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| sukh saanth sehaj aanadh bheae pooran bhee saev ||1|| rehaao || |
| Celestial peace, tranquility and bliss have come to pass; my service has been perfect. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਵਤ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੇ ਕਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਇਸੁ ਤਨ ਤੇ ਜਾਤ ॥੧॥ |
| aath pehar gun gaavath prabh kae kaam krodhh eis than thae jaath ||1|| |
| Twenty-four hours a day, I sing the Glorious Praises of God. Sexual desire and anger have left this body. ||1|| |

| ਪੰਚ ਦੂਤ ਮੂਡ ਪਰਿ ਠਾਢੇ ਕੇਸ ਗਹੇ ਫੇਰਾਵਤ ਹੇ ॥ |
| panch dhooth moodd par thaadtae kaes gehae faeraavath hae || |
| The five thieves stand over your head and seize you. Grabbing you by your hair, they will drive you on. |
|
| ਸੂਖ ਸਹਜ ਅਰੁ ਘਨੋ ਅਨੰਦਾ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਪਾਇਓ ਨਾਮੁ ਹਰੀ ॥ |
| sookh sehaj ar ghano anandhaa gur thae paaeiou naam haree || |
| I have obtained peace, poise and great bliss from the Guru, through the Lord's Name. |

| ਨਿਵਰੇ ਦੂਤ ਦੁਸਟ ਬੈਰਾਈ ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੇ ਕਾ ਜਪਿਆ ਜਾਪੁ ॥ |
| nivarae dhooth dhusatt bairaaee gur poorae kaa japiaa jaap || |
| The demons and wicked enemies are driven out, by meditating, and chanting the Chant of the Perfect Guru. |

| ਨਿਰਭਉ ਹੋਇ ਭਜਹੁ ਜਗਦੀਸੈ ਏਹੁ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਵਡਭਾਗਿ ਲਹੇ ॥ |
| nirabho hoe bhajahu jagadheesai eaehu padhaarathh vaddabhaag lehae || |
| So become fearless, and vibrate upon the Lord of the Universe. This is true wealth, obtained only by great good fortune. |

| ਭ੍ਰਮ ਭੈ ਤਰੇ ਛੁਟੇ ਭੈ ਜਮ ਕੇ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਏਕੁ ਰਹਿਆ ਭਰਪੂਰੇ ॥ |
| bhram bhai tharae shhuttae bhai jam kae ghatt ghatt eaek rehiaa bharapoorae || |
| I cross over the ocean of doubt and fear, and the fear of death is gone; the One Lord is permeating and pervading in each and every heart. |

| ਕੰਠਿ ਲਾਇ ਰਾਖੇ ਜਨ ਅਪਨੇ ਉਧਰਿ ਲੀਏ ਲਾਇ ਅਪਨੈ ਪਾਲ ॥੧॥ |
| kanth laae raakhae jan apanae oudhhar leeeae laae apanai paal ||1|| |
| He hugs us close in His embrace, and protects His humble servants; attaching us to the hem of His robe, he saves us. ||1|| |

| The yearning to meet my Beloved God has welled up within me. I cannot live without Him, even for an instant. ||1|| |

| ਕਹਾ ਭਇਓ ਤੀਰਥ ਬ੍ਰਤ ਕੀਏ ਰਾਮ ਸਰਨਿ ਨਹੀ ਆਵੈ ॥ |
| kehaa bhaeiou theerathh brath keeeae raam saran nehee aavai || |
| Of what use are sacred shrines of pilgrimage, if one does not enter the Sanctuary of the Lord? |

| ਨਾਨਕੁ ਕਹੈ ਅਵਰੁ ਨਹੀ ਕੋਇ ॥੮॥੧॥ |
| naanak kehai avar nehee koe ||8||1|| |
| Says Nanak, there is no other at all. ||8||1|| |

| ਤਿਸੁ ਨਾਲਿ ਕਿਆ ਚਲੈ ਪਹਨਾਮੀ ॥੪॥ |

| har har naam seethal jal dhhiaavahu har chandhan vaas sugandhh gandhheeaa || |
| Meditate on the cool water of the Name of the Lord, Har, Har. Perfume yourself with the fragrant scent of the Lord, the sandalwood tree. |

| ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਨਾਚੈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਆਗੈ ਅਨਹਦ ਸਬਦ ਧੁਨਿ ਤੂਰ ਵਜਈਆ ॥ |
| eihu man naachai sathigur aagai anehadh sabadh dhhun thoor vajeeaa || |
| This mind dances before the True Guru. The unstruck sound current of the Shabad resounds, vibrating the celestial melody. |

| ਅੰਤਰਿ ਪਿਆਸ ਉਠੀ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੇਰੀ ਸੁਣਿ ਗੁਰ ਬਚਨ ਮਨਿ ਤੀਰ ਲਗਈਆ ॥ |
| anthar piaas outhee prabh kaeree sun gur bachan man theer lageeaa || |
| The thirst for God has welled up deep within me; hearing the Word of the Guru's Teachings, my mind is pierced by His arrow. |

| ਅਨੇਕ ਜਨਮ ਕੇ ਵਿਛੁੜੇ ਜਨ ਮੇਲੇ ਜਾ ਸਤਿ ਸਤਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸਰਣਿ ਪਵਈਆ ॥੪॥ |
| anaek janam kae vishhurrae jan maelae jaa sath sath sathigur saran paveeaa ||4|| |
| After being separated from the Lord for countless incarnations, I am re-united with Him, entering the Sanctuary of the True, True, True Guru. ||4|| |

| Searching, searching, I have seen Him in each and every heart. |

| The Ninth Day: The Name is the supreme almighty Master of the nine masters of Yoga, the nine realms of the earth, and each and every heart. |

| mamathaa jaal thae rehai oudhaasaa || pranavath naanak ham thaa kae dhaasaa ||20||1|| |
| Prays Nanak, I am the slave of that one, who remains detached amidst the traps of attachment. ||20||1|| |

| They find no peace, here or hereafter. |

| ਕਿਰਪਾਲੁ ਸਦਾ ਦਇਆਲੁ ਦਾਤਾ ਜੀਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਤੂੰ ਜੀਐ ॥ |
| kirapaal sadhaa dhaeiaal dhaathaa jeeaa andhar thoon jeeai || |
| O Great Giver, You are always kind and compassionate. You infuse life into all living beings. |

| ਗੁਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਅਗਮੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਇਆ ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਰੰਗਿ ਭੀਨਾ ਰਾਮ ॥ |
| gur har prabh agam dhrirraaeiaa man than rang bheenaa raam || |
| The Guru has implanted within me the Name of the Inaccessible Lord God; my mind and body are drenched with the Lord's Love. |

| ਬਿਨਵੰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਸੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਮੇਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਅਗਮ ਅਥਾਹਾ ॥੨॥ |
| binavanth naanak dhaas thaeraa maeraa prabh agam athhaahaa ||2|| |
| Prays Nanak, I am Your slave. My God is inaccessible and unfathomable. ||2|| |

| God is beautiful, tranquil and merciful; He is the treasure of absolute peace, my Husband Lord. |

| ਨਾਨਕ ਜਲੁ ਜਲਹਿ ਸਮਾਇਆ ਜੋਤੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਮੀਕੇ ਰਾਮ ॥੪॥੨॥੫॥੯॥ |

| O Nanak, as water mingles with water, my light has merged into the Light. ||4||2||5||9|| |

| ਤੁਧੁ ਅਪੜਿ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਸਕੈ ਸਭ ਝਖਿ ਝਖਿ ਪਵੈ ਝੜਿ ॥੨॥ |
| thudhh aparr koe n sakai sabh jhakh jhakh pavai jharr ||2|| |
| No one can equal You, Lord. Those who try, struggle and die in frustration. ||2|| |

| ਹਰਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਲ੍ਹ੍ਹਰਿ ਤਿਆਗਿਆ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਿਸਾਰਿ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਏ ॥ |
| har sukh palhar thiaagiaa naam visaar dhukh paaeae || |
| One who forsakes the peace of the Lord in exchange for straw, and forgets the Naam, suffers in pain. |

| ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਦਾ ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗੁ ਹੈ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਉ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਇਆ ॥ |
| guramukh sadhaa har rang hai har kaa naao man bhaaeiaa || |
| The Gurmukh is in love with the Lord forever. The Name of the Lord is pleasing to his mind. |

| ਜਿਸੁ ਧਨ ਕਾਰਣਿ ਚੁਗਲੀ ਕਰਹਿ ਸੋ ਧਨੁ ਚੁਗਲੀ ਹਥਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਓਇ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਥੈ ਜਾਹਿ ॥ |
| jis dhhan kaaran chugalee karehi so dhhan chugalee hathh n aavai oue bhaavai thithhai jaahi || |
| That wealth, for which they slander others, does not come into their hands, no matter where they go. |

| ਜਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਨੋ ਮਿਲਿ ਮੰਨੇ ਸੁ ਹਲਤਿ ਪਲਤਿ ਸਿਝੈ ਜਿ ਵੇਮੁਖੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੁ ਫਿਰੈ ਭਰਿਸਟ ਥਾਨੁ ॥ |
| j sathigur no mil mannae s halath palath sijhai j vaemukh hovai s firai bharisatt thhaan || |
| One who meets with, and believes in the True Guru, is embellished here and hereafter. Whoever turns his back on the Guru and becomes baymukh, shall wander in cursed and evil places. |

| ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਲਾਹਿਆ ਬਹੁੜਿ ਨ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਭੰਗੁ ॥੨॥ |
| jan naanak naam salaahiaa bahurr n man than bhang ||2|| |
| Servant Nanak praises the Naam; his mind and body shall never again be shattered. ||2|| |

| ਅਨਿਕ ਜਤਨ ਕਰਿ ਰਾਖੀਐ ਫਿਰਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਲਪਟਾਈ ॥੨॥ |
| anik jathan kar raakheeai fir fir lapattaaee ||2|| |
| I make all sorts of efforts to hold back from this desire, but it clings to me, again and again. ||2|| |

| ਭ੍ਰਮ ਕੈ ਭਾਇ ਭਵੈ ਭੇਖਧਾਰੀ ॥੧॥ |
| bhram kai bhaae bhavai bhaekhadhhaaree ||1|| |
| Wearing the robes of a beggar, he wanders around, deluded by doubt. ||1|| |
|
| ਸਫਲ ਜਨਮੁ ਮੋ ਕਉ ਗੁਰ ਕੀਨਾ ॥ |
