ਆਸਾ ਮਨਸਾ ਸਭ ਤੇਰੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਜੈਸੀ ਤੂ ਆਸ ਕਰਾਵਹਿ ਤੈਸੀ ਕੋ ਆਸ ਕਰਾਈ ॥ |
aasaa manasaa sabh thaeree maerae suaamee jaisee thoo aas karaavehi thaisee ko aas karaaee || |
Hope and desire are all Yours, O my Lord and Master. As You inspire hope, so are the hopes held. |

ਤਿਸੁ ਜਨ ਕੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਹਰਿ ਆਪਿ ਵਧਾਈ ਓਹੁ ਘਟੈ ਨ ਕਿਸੈ ਕੀ ਘਟਾਈ ਇਕੁ ਤਿਲੁ ਤਿਲੁ ਤਿਲਨਾ ॥੩॥ |
this jan kee vaddiaaee har aap vadhhaaee ouhu ghattai n kisai kee ghattaaee eik thil thil thilanaa ||3|| |
The Lord Himself magnifies the glory of that humble servant. No one can lessen or decrease that glory, not even a bit. ||3|| |

maerae har preetham kee koee baath sunaavai so bhaaee so maeraa beer ||2|| |
Whoever tells me the Stories of my Beloved Lord is my Sibling of Destiny, and my friend. ||2|| |

ਬੇਅੰਤ ਗੁਨਾ ਤਾ ਕੇ ਕੇਤਕ ਗਨੀ ॥ |
baeanth gunaa thaa kae kaethak ganee || |
His Glorious Virtues are infinite; how many of them can I count? |

ਤਬ ਭੇਟੇ ਗੁਰ ਸਾਧ ਦਇਆਲ ॥ |

then one meets the Merciful Holy Guru. |

Three times, he tried to do it. |

I know as my Blessed Divine Guru, who is the most beautiful and wise. ||4||7||10|| |

thaerae naam avilanb bahuth jan oudhharae naamae kee nij math eaeh ||2||3|| |
With the Support of Your Name, so many have been saved; this is Naam Dayv's understanding. ||2||3|| |

modhee kae ghar khaanaa paakaa vaa kaa larrakaa maariaa thhaa ||2|| |
In the merchant's house, a banquet was prepared for him - he killed the merchant's son. ||2|| |

One who eats this food, this medicine of the Teachings, |

ਉਤਭੁਜ ਚਲਤ ਆਪਿ ਕਰਿ ਚੀਨੈ ਆਪੇ ਤਤੁ ਪਛਾਣੈ ॥੧॥ |
outhabhuj chalath aap kar cheenai aapae thath pashhaanai ||1|| |
He Himself creates the wondrous play of the world. He Himself contemplates it, and understands its true essence. ||1|| |

dhuramath mail gee sabh neekal sathasangath mil budhh paae ||1|| |
The filth of evil-mindedness is totally washed away; joining the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation, one is blessed with understanding. ||1|| |

ਨਾਨਕ ਮੇਲਿ ਮੇਲਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਹੰਸੁ ਕਰਾਈਐ ॥੪॥੪॥ |

Nanak: O God, unite me with the Sangat, the Congregation. United with the Sangat, I will become a swan. ||4||4|| |

ਜਿਨਿ ਦੀਆ ਸੋ ਚਿਤਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਮੋਹਿ ਅੰਧੁ ਲਪਟਾਣਾ ॥੩॥ |
jin dheeaa so chith n aavai mohi andhh lapattaanaa ||3|| |
He does not think of the One who gave him these; he is blind, entangled in emotional attachment. ||3|| |

ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਮੇਰੀ ਆਸਾ ਪੂਰੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸਰਣਾਈ ॥੪॥੪॥ |
kahu naanak maeree aasaa pooree sathigur kee saranaaee ||4||4|| |
Says Nanak, my hopes are fulfilled; I have found the Guru's Sanctuary. ||4||4|| |

Says Nanak, one who meets with the True Guru, does not have to dance the dance of reincarnation again. ||4||7|| |

Through millions of incarnations, you have come, wandering, wandering, wandering. |

The Light of the Ambrosial Name of the Lord is immaculate and pure. |

ਆਗੈ ਰਾਖਿਓ ਸਾਲ ਗਿਰਾਮੁ ॥ |
aagai raakhiou saal giraam || |
You place your stone god before yourself, |

ਭੋਜਨੁ ਭਾਉ ਕੀਰਤਨ ਆਧਾਰੁ ॥ |
bhojan bhaao keerathan aadhhaar || |
The love of God is their food, and the Kirtan of the Lord's Praise is their support. |

ਭਰਿ ਜੋਬਨਿ ਲਾਗਾ ਦੁਰਗੰਧ ॥ |
bhar joban laagaa dhuragandhh || |
In the fullness of youth, he is involved in foul-smelling sins. |

ਸੂਰਬੀਰ ਧੀਰਜ ਮਤਿ ਪੂਰਾ ॥ |
soorabeer dhheeraj math pooraa || |
He alone is brave, patient and perfectly wise; |

ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨੁ ਗਤਿ ਨਹੀ ਕਾਈ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਭੇਟਤ ਉਧਾਰ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
raam naam bin gath nehee kaaee gur pooraa bhaettath oudhhaar ||1|| rehaao || |
Without the Lord's Name, there is no salvation. Meeting with the Perfect Guru, one is saved. ||1||Pause|| |

koorr kapatt ahankaar reejhaanaa || |
You are fond of falsehood, fraud and egotism. |

ਸੰਤਨ ਹਥਿ ਰਾਖੀ ਕੂੰਜੀ ॥੨॥ |

The Saints hold the key to it in their hands. ||2|| |

ਜੀਵਨ ਰੂਪ ਹਰਿ ਚਰਣ ॥ |

The Lord's Feet are the embodiment of life itself. |

janam janam kae paap khoe kai fun baikunth sidhhaavai ||1|| |
The sins of countless incarnations are washed off, and he attains the heavenly realm. ||1|| |

ਜਾ ਸਿਕਦਾਰੈ ਪਵੈ ਜੰਜੀਰੀ ਤਾ ਚਾਕਰ ਹਥਹੁ ਮਰਣਾ ॥੪॥ |
jaa sikadhaarai pavai janjeeree thaa chaakar hathhahu maranaa ||4|| |
when the master is put in chains? He dies at the hands of his servant. ||4|| |

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਮੀਠਾ ਲਾਗੈ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਈਐ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |

The Lord, Har, Har, seems sweet to the Gurmukh, who merges in the Name of the Lord, Har, Har. ||1||Pause|| |

dhubidhhaa raathae mehal n paavehi || |
Tinged with double-mindedness, they do not find the Mansion of the Lord's Presence. |

ਪਾਠ ਪੜੈ ਲੇ ਲੋਕ ਸੁਣਾਵੈ ॥ |

Studying the scriptures, reading them to other people, |

ਦੇਖਿ ਕੁਟੰਬੁ ਮਾਇਆ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਮੰਦਰੁ ਸਾਕਤੁ ਜੰਜਾਲਿ ਪਰਾਲਿ ਪਇਆ ॥੯॥ |
dhaekh kuttanb maaeiaa grih mandhar saakath janjaal paraal paeiaa ||9|| |
Gazing upon his family, wealth, household and mansions, the faithless cynic is entangled in worthless worldly affairs. ||9|| |

ਕਾਲੁ ਬਿਕਾਲੁ ਕਹੇ ਕਹਿ ਬਪੁਰੇ ਜੀਵਤ ਮੂਆ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਰੀ ॥੧੧॥ |
kaal bikaal kehae kehi bapurae jeevath mooaa man maaree ||11|| |
What can poor death or birth say to him? Conquering his mind, he remains dead while yet alive. ||11|| |
