| ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਨਾਲਿ ਤੇਰੀ ਭਾਵਨੀ ਲਾਗੈ ਤਾ ਇਹ ਸੋਝੀ ਪਾਇ ॥੭॥ |
| sathigur naal thaeree bhaavanee laagai thaa eih sojhee paae ||7|| |
| Enshrine love for the True Guru, and then you shall obtain this understanding. ||7|| |

| ਬਾਣੀ ਲਾਗੈ ਸੋ ਗਤਿ ਪਾਏ ਸਬਦੇ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਈ ॥੨੧॥ |
| baanee laagai so gath paaeae sabadhae sach samaaee ||21|| |
| One who is committed to this Bani is emancipated, and through the Shabad, merges in Truth. ||21|| |

| ਸਚਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਸਿਆ ਘਟ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਕਰਤੈ ਆਪਿ ਸਵਾਰੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |

| The True Name abides deep within their hearts. The Creator Himself embellishes them. ||1||Pause|| |

| santhahu guramukh mukath gath paaee || |
| O Saints, the Gurmukhs attain the state of liberation. |

| ਕਿਨਹੀ ਕਹਿਆ ਮੈ ਕੁਲਹਿ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥ |
| kinehee kehiaa mai kulehi vaddiaaee || |
| Some say that they belong to great and noble families. |
 |
| ਕਾਹੂ ਬਿਹਾਵੈ ਰੰਗ ਰਸ ਰੂਪ ॥ |
| kaahoo bihaavai rang ras roop || |
| Some pass their lives enjoying pleasures and beauty. |
 |
| ਤਿਉ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਮਨਹਿ ਸੁਖਾਨੇ ॥੬॥ |
| thio har naam har jan manehi sukhaanae ||6|| |
| the Lord's Name is pleasing to the mind of the Lord's humble servant. ||6|| |

| ਪੁਤ੍ਰ ਕਲਤ੍ਰ ਮਹਾ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਮਹਿ ਗੁਰਿ ਸਾਚੈ ਲਾਇ ਤਰਾਈ ॥੧੪॥ |
| puthr kalathr mehaa bikhiaa mehi gur saachai laae tharaaee ||14|| |
| In the midst of children and spouse, and utter corruption, the True Guru has carried me across. ||14|| |

| ਨਾਮ ਦਾਨੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਤੇਰਿਆ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾ ਰੇਣਾਰੀ ॥੮॥੩॥੮॥੨੨॥ |
| naam dhaan naanak vaddiaaee thaeriaa santh janaa raenaaree ||8||3||8||22|| |
| Please bless Nanak with the glorious greatness of the gift of the Naam, and the dust of the feet of Your Saints. ||8||3||8||22|| |

| kehai naanak eaehu anandh hai aanandh gur thae jaaniaa ||7|| |
| Says Nanak, this alone is bliss - bliss which is known through the Guru. ||7|| |

| ਖੰਨਿਅਹੁ ਤਿਖੀ ਵਾਲਹੁ ਨਿਕੀ ਏਤੁ ਮਾਰਗਿ ਜਾਣਾ ॥ |
| khanniahu thikhee vaalahu nikee eaeth maarag jaanaa || |
| The path they take is sharper than a two-edged sword, and finer than a hair. |

| ਆਪੁ ਛਡਿ ਸਦਾ ਰਹੈ ਪਰਣੈ ਗੁਰ ਬਿਨੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਜਾਣੈ ਕੋਏ ॥ |
| aap shhadd sadhaa rehai paranai gur bin avar n jaanai koeae || |
| Renouncing selfishness and conceit, he remains always on the side of the Guru; he does not know anyone except the Guru. |

| ਓਸ ਨੋ ਕਿਹੁ ਪੋਹਿ ਨ ਸਕੀ ਜਿਸ ਨਉ ਆਪਣੀ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਵਏ ॥ |
| ous no kihu pohi n sakee jis no aapanee liv laaveae || |
| Nothing can harm one, whom the Lord inspires to embrace His Love. |

| ਅਨਹਤ ਬਾਣੀ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਜਾਣੀ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਭੋਗੋ ॥ |
| anehath baanee gur sabadh jaanee har naam har ras bhogo || |
| I have come to know the unstruck sound current and the Word of the Guru's Shabad; I enjoy the sublime essence of the Lord, the Lord's Name. |

| ਬਿਨਵੰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਗੁਰ ਚਰਣ ਲਾਗੇ ਵਾਜੇ ਅਨਹਦ ਤੂਰੇ ॥੪੦॥੧॥ |
| binavanth naanak gur charan laagae vaajae anehadh thoorae ||40||1|| |
| Prays Nanak, touching the Guru's Feet, the unstruck sound current of the celestial bugles vibrates and resounds. ||40||1|| |

| ਰਾਮਦਾਸ ਸੋਢੀ ਤਿਲਕੁ ਦੀਆ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੁ ਸਚੁ ਨੀਸਾਣੁ ਜੀਉ ॥੫॥ |
| raamadhaas sodtee thilak dheeaa gur sabadh sach neesaan jeeo ||5|| |
| The Guru then blessed the Sodhi Ram Das with the ceremonial tilak mark, the insignia of the True Word of the Shabad. ||5|| |

| ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਘਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਮੇਰੇ ਕੈ ਨਿਤ ਨਿਤ ਮੰਗਲੁ ਸੁਨੀਐ ॥੪॥੧॥ |
| kahu naanak ghar prabh maerae kai nith nith mangal suneeai ||4||1|| |
| Says Nanak, in the Home of my God, the songs of joy are continuously, continually heard. ||4||1|| |

| ਹਰਿ ਏਕੁ ਚਿਤਵੈ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਏਕੁ ਗਾਵੈ ਹਰਿ ਏਕੁ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟੀ ਆਇਆ ॥ |
| har eaek chithavai prabh eaek gaavai har eaek dhrisattee aaeiaa || |
| He thinks of the One Lord, and he sings of the One God; he gazes upon the One Lord alone. |

| ਭਜੁ ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗਿ ਦਇਆਲ ਦੇਵ ਮਨ ਕੀ ਮਤਿ ਤਿਆਗੁ ਜੀਉ ॥ |
| bhaj saadhhoo sang dhaeiaal dhaev man kee math thiaag jeeo || |
| Vibrate, and meditate on the Merciful Divine Lord in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy; renounce your intellectual mind. |

| ਘਰਿ ਨਾਹੁ ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ਅਨਦੁ ਸਖੀਏ ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਪ੍ਰਫੁਲਿਆ ॥ |
| ghar naahu nihachal anadh sakheeeae charan kamal prafuliaa || |
| The eternal, unchanging Lord has come into my home as my Husband, O my companions; dwelling upon His lotus feet, I blossom forth in bliss. |

| ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਪੂਰਨ ਮਿਲੇ ਦੁਤੀਆ ਬਿਨਸੀ ਭ੍ਰਾਂਤਿ ॥੧॥ |
| naanak prabh pooran milae dhutheeaa binasee bhraanth ||1|| |
| O Nanak, I have met my Perfect God; the illusion of duality is dispelled. ||1|| |

| ਓਅੰਕਾਰਿ ਬੇਦ ਨਿਰਮਏ ॥ |
| ouankaar baedh nirameae || |
| Ongkaar created the Vedas. |

| ਆਪੇ ਕਰੈ ਕਥੈ ਸੁਣੈ ਸੋਇ ॥ |
| aapae karai kathhai sunai soe || |
| He Himself acts, speaks and listens. |

| ਅਗਮ ਅਗੋਚਰੁ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਨਹੀ ਪਾਇ ॥ |
| agam agochar keemath nehee paae || |
| The Lord is inaccessible and unfathomable. His worth cannot be estimated. |

| ਛੀਜੈ ਜੋਬਨੁ ਜਰੂਆ ਸਿਰਿ ਕਾਲੁ ॥ |
| shheejai joban jarooaa sir kaal || |
| Youth is wasting away; old age and death hover above the head. |
 |
| ਮਨੁ ਦੀਆ ਗੁਰਿ ਆਪਣੈ ਪਾਇਆ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਨਾਉ ॥ |
| man dheeaa gur aapanai paaeiaa niramal naao || |
| I gave my mind to my Guru, and received the Immaculate Name. |

| ਨਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਏਹੁ ਨ ਓਹੁ ਹੈ ਅਵਗੁਣਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਪਛੁਤਾਹਿ ॥ |
| naa this eaehu n ouhu hai avagun fir pashhuthaahi || |
| One will not have this world or the next; committing sinful mistakes, one comes to regret and repent in the end. |

| ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਮਨੁ ਉਲਟੋ ਮਰੈ ਜੇ ਗੁਣ ਹੋਵਹਿ ਨਾਲਿ ॥ |
| man mehi man oulatto marai jae gun hovehi naal || |
| The mind turns inward, and merges with mind, when it is with virtue. |

| ਰੂੜੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਬੀਚਾਰਿ ॥ |
| roorree baanee har paaeiaa gur sabadhee beechaar || |
| Through the beautiful Word of the Guru's Bani, the Lord is obtained; contemplate the Word of the Guru's Shabad. |

| ਪਾਧਾ ਪੜਿਆ ਆਖੀਐ ਬਿਦਿਆ ਬਿਚਰੈ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥ |
| paadhhaa parriaa aakheeai bidhiaa bicharai sehaj subhaae || |
| That Pandit, that religious scholar, is said to be well-educated, if he contemplates knowledge with intuitive ease. |

| ਕੰਦ ਮੂਲੁ ਅਹਾਰੋ ਖਾਈਐ ਅਉਧੂ ਬੋਲੈ ਗਿਆਨੇ ॥ |
| kandh mool ahaaro khaaeeai aoudhhoo bolai giaanae || |
| For food, we take fruits and roots. This is the spiritual wisdom spoken by the renunciates. |

| ਕਾਹੇ ਕਉ ਤੁਝੁ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਲਾਇਆ ॥ |
| kaahae ko thujh eihu man laaeiaa || |
| With what have you linked your mind? |
 |
| ਏਕਾ ਬੇਦਨ ਦੂਜੈ ਬਿਆਪੀ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਸਾਇਣੁ ਵੀਸਰਿਆ ॥ |
| eaekaa baedhan dhoojai biaapee naam rasaaein veesariaa || |
| One who suffers from the disease of duality, forgets the Naam, the source of nectar. |
 |
| ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਜੋ ਮਰਿ ਜੀਵੈ ਸੋ ਪਾਏ ਮੋਖ ਦੁਆਰੁ ॥ |
| gur kai sabadh jo mar jeevai so paaeae mokh dhuaar || |
| One who remains dead while yet alive, through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, finds the door of liberation. |

| ਭਵਜਲੁ ਸਬਦਿ ਲੰਘਾਵਣਹਾਰੁ ॥੪੩॥ |
| bhavajal sabadh langhaavanehaar ||43|| |
| How can the Shabad carry us across the terrifying world-ocean?""||43|| |

| ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਸਾਚੁ ਰਹਿਆ ਭਰਪੂਰੇ ॥ |
| ghatt ghatt saach rehiaa bharapoorae || |
| The True Lord is pervading and permeating each and every heart. |
 |
| ਗਿਆਨ ਕੀ ਮੁਦ੍ਰਾ ਕਵਨ ਅਉਧੂ ਸਿਧ ਕੀ ਕਵਨ ਕਮਾਈ ॥ |
| giaan kee mudhraa kavan aoudhhoo sidhh kee kavan kamaaee || |
| What is the way of the spiritual teacher, and the reclusive hermit? What is the occupation of the Siddha?"" |

| ਗਉਨੁ ਗਗਨੁ ਜਬ ਤਬਹਿ ਨ ਹੋਤਉ ਤ੍ਰਿਭਵਣ ਜੋਤਿ ਆਪੇ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰੁ ॥ |
| goun gagan jab thabehi n hotho thribhavan joth aapae nirankaar || |
| When the world and the sky did not even exist, the Light of the Formless Lord filled the three worlds. |

| ਨਾਨਕ ਸਭਿ ਜੁਗ ਆਪੇ ਵਰਤੈ ਦੂਜਾ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ॥੭੩॥੧॥ |
| naanak sabh jug aapae varathai dhoojaa avar n koee ||73||1|| |
| O Nanak, He extends Himself throughout the ages; there is no other than Him. ||73||1|| |

| ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਈ ਸਭੁ ਜਗੁ ਫਿਰੀ ਫਾਵੀ ਹੋਈ ਭਾਲਿ ॥ |
| bharam bhulaaee sabh jag firee faavee hoee bhaal || |
| Deluded by doubt, I wandered over the whole world. Searching, I became frustrated. |

| ਰਾਤਿ ਦਿਨਸੁ ਉਪਾਇਅਨੁ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਕੀ ਵਰਤਣਿ ॥ |

| He created the night and the day, for the activities of the world. |

| ਭੈ ਪਇਐ ਤਨੁ ਖੀਣੁ ਹੋਇ ਲੋਭ ਰਤੁ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਜਾਇ ॥ |
| bhai paeiai than kheen hoe lobh rath vichahu jaae || |
| In the Fear of God, the body becomes thin, and the blood of greed passes out of the body. |
 |
| ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪੇ ਨਾਮੋ ਆਰਾਧੇ ਤਿਸੁ ਜਨ ਕਉ ਕਰਹੁ ਸਭਿ ਨਮਸਕਾਰੁ ॥ |
| naam japae naamo aaraadhhae this jan ko karahu sabh namasakaar || |
| Let all bow in humility to that humble being who chants the Naam, and worships the Naam in adoration. |

| ਮੁਸਲਮਾਨੁ ਕਰੇ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥ |
| musalamaan karae vaddiaaee || |
| The Muslim glorifies his own faith. |
 |
| ਸੁਪਨੈ ਬਿੰਦੁ ਨ ਦੇਈ ਝਰਣਾ ॥ |
| supanai bindh n dhaeee jharanaa || |
| He does not waste his energy in wet dreams. |
 |
| ਰੋਵੈ ਰਾਮੁ ਨਿਕਾਲਾ ਭਇਆ ॥ |
| rovai raam nikaalaa bhaeiaa || |
| Rama wept when he was sent into exile, |
 |
| ਨਾਨਕ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਨ ਬੁਝਈ ਅੰਧਾ ਕਹੀਐ ਸੋਇ ॥੩॥ |
| naanak hukam n bujhee andhhaa keheeai soe ||3|| |
| O Nanak, one who does not understand the Hukam of the Lord's Command should be called blind. ||3|| |

| ਮਾਹੁ ਪਖੁ ਕਿਹੁ ਚਲੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਘੜੀ ਮੁਹਤੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਹੰਢੈ ॥ |
| maahu pakh kihu chalai naahee gharree muhath kishh handtai || |
| It will not last for a month, or even a week. It barely lasts for an hour, or even a moment. |

| ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਈਐ ਸਚੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥੨੧॥੧॥ ਸੁਧੁ ॥ |
