| When such possessiveness is erased and removed, |

| ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਅਰੁ ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਤੇ ਪਕਰਿਓ ਗਢ ਕੋ ਰਾਜਾ ॥੫॥ |
| saadhhasangath ar gur kee kirapaa thae pakariou gadt ko raajaa ||5|| |
| In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, and by Guru's Grace, I have captured the king of the fortress. ||5|| |
|
| ਕੋਟਿ ਚੰਦ੍ਰਮੇ ਕਰਹਿ ਚਰਾਕ ॥ |
| kott chandhramae karehi charaak || |
| Millions of moons twinkle in the sky. |
|
| ਦੂਧੁ ਪੀਆਇ ਭਗਤੁ ਘਰਿ ਗਇਆ ॥ |
| dhoodhh peeaae bhagath ghar gaeiaa || |
| The Lord drank the milk, and the devotee returned home. |
|
| ਘਰ ਕੀ ਨਾਰਿ ਤਿਆਗੈ ਅੰਧਾ ॥ |
| ghar kee naar thiaagai andhhaa || |
| The blind fool abandons the wife of his own home, |
|
| ਬਾਦਿਸਾਹ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਸੁਨੇਹੁ ॥ |
| baadhisaah baenathee sunaehu || |
| The people pleaded with the king, ""Hear our prayer, O king. |
|
| ਜਉ ਗੁਰਦੇਉ ਪਰ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਤਿਆਗੀ ॥ |
| jo guradhaeo par nindhaa thiaagee || |
| When the Divine Guru grants His Grace, one forsakes the slander of others. |
|
| ਨਾਮੇ ਕਾ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ਫਿਰੇ ਸਗਲ ਬੇਦੇਸਵਾ ॥੪॥੧॥ |
| naamae kaa suaamee antharajaamee firae sagal baedhaesavaa ||4||1|| |
| Naam Dayv's Lord and Master, the Inner-knower, the Searcher of hearts, wanders everywhere; He has no specific home. ||4||1|| |

| ਰੇ ਮਨ ਲੇਖੈ ਕਬਹੂ ਨ ਪਾਇ ॥ |
| rae man laekhai kabehoo n paae || |
| O my mind, these things are worthless, |
|
| ਓਹੁ ਅਲਖੁ ਨ ਲਖੀਐ ਕਹਹੁ ਕਾਇ ॥ |
| ouhu alakh n lakheeai kehahu kaae || |
| He is Unseen - He cannot be seen. How can I describe Him? |
|
| ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਿ ਬੇੜਾ ਬਾਂਧਹੁ ਦਇਆ ਕਰਹੁ ਦਇਆਲਾ ॥੧॥ |
| raam naam jap baerraa baandhhahu dhaeiaa karahu dhaeiaalaa ||1|| |
| Chant the Name of the Lord. Build your boat, and pray, ""O Merciful Lord, please be merciful to me.""||1|| |

| ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਸੁ ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗਿ ਭੀਨੇ ਹਰਿ ਜਲੁ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਨਾ ॥੩॥ |
| har har karehi s har rang bheenae har jal anmrith naam manaa ||3|| |
| Those who chant the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, are drenched with the Lord's Love. Their minds are drenched with the Ambrosial Water of the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||3|| |
|
| ਤਿਨ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੈ ਤਿਲੁ ਨ ਤਮਾਇ ॥੨॥ |
| thin sadhaa sukh hai thil n thamaae ||2|| |
| They live in peace forever, and have no greed at all. ||2|| |
|
| ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਗਵਾਈ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਜੂਠਿ ਭਰਾਂਤਿ ॥ |
| sathigur gavaaee vichahu jooth bharaanth || |
| The True Guru drives out sin and doubt from within. |
|
| ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਹਰਿ ਦਰਿ ਨੀਸਾਣੈ ॥ |
| gur kai sabadh har dhar neesaanai || |
| Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, he goes to the Lord's Court with his banners flying proudly. |

| ਕਲਿ ਮਹਿ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮਿ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥ |
| kal mehi raam naam vaddiaaee || |
| In this Dark Age of Kali Yuga, glorious greatness comes through the Lord's Name. |
|
| ਏਹਿ ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਫੂਲਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਇ ॥੧॥ |
| eaehi jeea janth foolehi har chith laae ||1|| |
| These beings and creatures blossom forth when they focus their consciousness on the Lord. ||1|| |
|
| ਮਨਮੁਖ ਫਿਰਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਹਉਮੈ ਮੁਏ ॥ |
| manamukh fir fir houmai mueae || |
| The self-willed manmukhs die of their egotism, over and over again. |
|
| ਵਡੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਗੁਰੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਵਿਚਿ ਕਾਇਆ ਨਗਰ ਹਰਿ ਸੀਧੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| vaddai bhaag gur sathigur paaeiaa vich kaaeiaa nagar har seedhhae ||1|| rehaao || |
| By great good fortune, I have found the Guru, the True Guru, and in the body-village, the Lord has revealed Himself. ||1||Pause|| |

| jan naanak man than anadh bhaeiaa hai gur manthra dheeou har bhannj ||4||5||7||12||18||7||37|| |
| Servant Nanak's mind and body are filled with ecstasy; the Guru has blessed him with the Mantra of the Lord's Name. ||4||5||7||12||18||7||37|| |

| I do not understand anything of Your Worth. |

| charan kamal hiradhai our dhhaarae sadhaa sadhaa har jas sunaa ||1|| rehaao || |
| I enshrine the Lord's Lotus Feet within my heart; I listen to the Lord's Praise, forever and ever. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਦੀਸੈ ਬਿਲਲਾਂਤੀ ਸਾਕਤੁ ਫਿਰਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਵੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| bin sathigur dheesai bilalaanthee saakath fir fir aavai jaavai ||1|| rehaao || |
| Without the True Guru, the world weeps. The faithless cynic comes and goes in reincarnation, over and over again. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਕਰਮੁ ਧਰਮੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਕਛੁ ਨ ਬੀਚਾਰਿਓ ॥ |
| karam dhharam maeraa kashh n beechaariou || |
| He does not consider the karma of my actions, or my Dharma, my spiritual practice. |

| ਭਗਤੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਸੋਈ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਤੂ ਰੰਗੁ ਧਰਤਾ ॥੨॥ |
| bhagath thaeraa soee thudhh bhaavai jis no thoo rang dhharathaa ||2|| |
| He alone is Your devotee, who is pleasing to You. You bless them with Your Love. ||2|| |
|
| ਇਹੁ ਜਗੁ ਧੂਏ ਕਾ ਪਹਾਰ ॥ |
| eihu jag dhhooeae kaa pehaar || |
| This world is just a hill of smoke. |
|
| ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੁ ਬੀਚਾਰੇ ਸਹਜ ਭਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| gur sabadh beechaarae sehaj bhaae ||1|| rehaao || |
| It contemplates the Word of the Guru's Shabad, with intuitive ease. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਸਮਝਿ ਰਹੈ ਮਿਹਮਾਣੁ ॥ |
| gur thae samajh rehai mihamaan || |
| One who obtains this understanding from the Guru dwells like an honored guest in this world. |

| ਅੰਤ ਕਾਲਿ ਮੂੜੇ ਚੋਟ ਖਾਹਿ ॥੭॥ |
| anth kaal moorrae chott khaahi ||7|| |
| At that very last moment, you fool, you shall be beaten. ||7|| |
|
| ਨਾ ਸਾਬੂਰੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਫਿਰਿ ਮੰਗੈ ਨਾਰਦੁ ਕਰੇ ਖੁਆਰੀ ॥ |
| naa saaboor hovai fir mangai naaradh karae khuaaree || |
| But the mortal becomes unsatisfied, and begs for more; his fickle mind brings him disgrace. |

| ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਹਜਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ਜਿਉ ਜਲੁ ਜਲਹਿ ਸਮਾਵੈ ॥੮॥੧॥੯॥ |
| naanak guramukh sehaj milaaeae jio jal jalehi samaavai ||8||1||9|| |
| O Nanak, the Gurmukh is absorbed in celestial peace and poise, like water blending with water. ||8||1||9|| |

| ਆਪਿ ਬੀਜਿ ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਖਾਂਹਿ ॥ |
| aap beej aapae hee khaanhi || |
| He himself eats what he himself plants. |
|
| ਜਾਗੈ ਸੁਕਦੇਉ ਅਰੁ ਅਕੂਰੁ ॥ |
| jaagai sukadhaeo ar akoor || |
| Suk Dayv and Akrur are awake and aware. |
|
| ਮੋਹਿ ਐਸੇ ਬਨਜ ਸਿਉ ਨਹੀਨ ਕਾਜੁ ॥ |
| mohi aisae banaj sio neheen kaaj || |
| I don't care at all about such commerce. |
|
| ਗੰਗਾ ਗਇਆ ਗੋਦਾਵਰੀ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਕੇ ਕਾਮਾ ॥ |
| gangaa gaeiaa godhaavaree sansaar kae kaamaa || |
| Pilgrimages to the Ganges, the Gaya and the Godawari are merely worldly affairs. |

| ਮਤਿ ਕੋਊ ਮਾਰੈ ਈਂਟ ਢੇਮ ॥੪॥੧॥ |

| Watch out - someone may throw a brick at you. ||4||1|| |

| ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਬਚਨਿ ਮੇਰੋ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਏ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਅਧਾਰਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| sathigur bachan maero man maaniaa har paaeae praan adhhaaraa ||1|| rehaao || |
| My mind is pleased and appeased by the Word of the True Guru's Teachings. I have found the Lord, the Support of my breath of life. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਨਾਨਕ ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਨਦਰਿ ਭਈ ਹੈ ਤਿਨ ਕੀ ਪੈਜ ਸਵਾਰੀ ॥੪॥੨॥ |
| naanak jin ko nadhar bhee hai thin kee paij savaaree ||4||2|| |
| O Nanak, those who are blessed by His Glance of Grace - He saves and protects their honor. ||4||2|| |

| ਨੈਣੀ ਬਿਰਹੁ ਦੇਖਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਰਸਨਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਖਾਨੀ ॥ |
| nainee birahu dhaekhaa prabh suaamee rasanaa naam vakhaanee || |
| With my eyes, I gaze lovingly upon God, my Lord and Master. I chant His Name with my tongue. |

| ਤੇ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਜਨ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਉ ਰਲਿ ਮਿਲੇ ਜੈਸੇ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਲਲੈ ਸਲਲ ਮਿਲਾਤਿ ॥੨॥੧॥੮॥ |
| thae har kae jan har sio ral milae jaisae jan naanak salalai salal milaath ||2||1||8|| |
| Those humble servants of the Lord merge with their Lord, O Nanak, like water merging with water. ||2||1||8|| |

| jinh kaa ang karai maeraa suaamee thinh kee naanak har paij savaaree ||2||4||11|| |
| Those who have my Lord and Master on their side - O Nanak, the Lord saves their honor. ||2||4||11|| |

| Those who slander the Society of the Saints, shall all be drowned in their ignorance. ||1|| |

| ਹਾਰ ਕਜਰ ਬਸਤ੍ਰ ਅਨਿਕ ਸੀਗਾਰ ਰੇ ਬਿਨੁ ਪਿਰ ਸਭੈ ਬਿਖੁ ਲਾਗਿਓ ॥੧॥ |
| haar kajar basathr anik seegaar rae bin pir sabhai bikh laagiou ||1|| |
| Necklaces, eye make-up, fancy clothes and decorations - without my Husband Lord, these are all poison to me. ||1|| |

| ਹਿਰਦੈ ਜਪਉ ਨੇਤ੍ਰ ਧਿਆਨੁ ਲਾਵਉ ਸ੍ਰਵਨੀ ਕਥਾ ਸੁਨਾਏ ॥ |
| hiradhai japo naethr dhhiaan laavo sravanee kathhaa sunaaeae || |
| In my heart, I meditate on Him; with my eyes, I focus my meditation on Him. With my ears, I listen to His Sermon. |

| ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਭੇਟੇ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਨ ਕਾਹੂ ਮਿਲਤ ਨਹੀ ਜਗਦੀਸੈ ॥੩॥ |
| bin gur bhaettae mukath n kaahoo milath nehee jagadheesai ||3|| |
| Without meeting the Guru, no one is liberated, and the Lord of the Universe is not met. ||3|| |

| ਦਰਸਨ ਪਿਆਸ ਪ੍ਰਿਅ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਮਨੋਹਰ ਮਨੁ ਨ ਰਹੈ ਬਹੁ ਬਿਧਿ ਉਮਕਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| dharasan piaas pria preeth manohar man n rehai bahu bidhh oumakaaee ||1|| rehaao || |
| I am so thirsty for the Blessed Vision, the Darshan of my Enticing and Lovely Beloved. My mind cannot survive - it yearns for Him in so many ways. ||1||Pause|| |
