| By Guru's Grace, egotism is extinguished, and then, through the Guru's Teachings, I merge in the Naam. ||6|| |

| I am happy to serve the Guru; the Lord has become merciful to me. |

| har dhaevahu dhaan dhaeiaal prabh jan raakhahu har prabh lajiaa || |
| O Merciful Lord God, please bless me with Your Bounty; O Lord God, please preserve and protect the honor of Your humble servant. |

| ਹਰਿ ਨਿਕਟਿ ਵਸੈ ਜਗਜੀਵਨਾ ਪਰਗਾਸੁ ਕੀਓ ਗੁਰ ਮੀਤਿ ॥ |
| har nikatt vasai jagajeevanaa paragaas keeou gur meeth || |
| The Lord, the Life of the World, dwells near at hand. The Guru, my Friend, has made this clear. |

| ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਹਰਿ ਲਿਵ ਉਬਰੇ ਜਿਨ ਸੰਧਿਆ ਤਿਸੁ ਫਿਰਿ ਮਾਰ ॥੧॥ |
| naanak har jan har liv oubarae jin sandhhiaa this fir maar ||1|| |
| O Nanak, the humble servant of the Lord is saved by the Love of the Lord. The arrow is turned around, and kills the one who shot it. ||1|| |

| Please take pity on me, O my God, that I may serve You day and night. |

| har har har har har jan ootham kiaa oupamaa thinh dheejai || |
| The humble servants of the Lord, Har, Har, Har, Har, Har, are sublime and exalted. What praise can we bestow upon them? |

| ਜਿਉ ਜਲ ਮੀਨ ਜਲੰ ਜਲ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਹੈ ਖਿਨੁ ਜਲ ਬਿਨੁ ਫੂਟਿ ਮਰੀਜੈ ॥੫॥ |
| jio jal meen jalan jal preeth hai khin jal bin foott mareejai ||5|| |
| The fish in the water loves only the water. Without water, it bursts and dies in an instant. ||5|| |

| ਅੰਤਰਿ ਅਗਨਿ ਸਬਲ ਅਤਿ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਹਿਵ ਸੀਤਲੁ ਸਬਦੁ ਗੁਰ ਦੀਜੈ ॥ |
| anthar agan sabal ath bikhiaa hiv seethal sabadh gur dheejai || |
| The powerful fire of corruption is raging violently within; the Word of the Guru's Shabad is the ice water which cools and soothes. |

| thaerae laal keemath thaa pavai jaan sirai hovehi hor ||2|| |
| O my Beloved, Your Worth could only be estimated if something else could be placed on the other side of the scale. ||2|| |

| ਸਰੁ ਸੰਤੋਖੁ ਤਾਸੁ ਗੁਰੁ ਹੋਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |

| The Guru encompasses the ocean of contentment. ||1||Pause|| |

| thaa ko samajhaavan jaaeeai jae ko bhoolaa hoee || |
| If anyone is mistaken and fooled, you should go to instruct him. |

| ਅੰਧੌ ਬੋਲੌ ਮੁਗਧੁ ਗਵਾਰੁ ॥ |
| andhha bola mugadhh gavaar || |
| I am blind, deaf, foolish and ignorant, |
|
| ਜਿਸ ਕੀ ਰਚਨਾ ਸੋ ਬਿਧਿ ਜਾਣੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਵੀਚਾਰਾ ॥੨॥ |
| jis kee rachanaa so bidhh jaanai guramukh giaan veechaaraa ||2|| |
| The creation is His; He alone knows its ways and means. The Gurmukh contemplates spiritual wisdom. ||2|| |

| ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਵੈ ਸਾਚਿ ਰਹੈ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਈ ॥੧॥ |
| naam rathae sadhaa sukh paavai saach rehai liv laaee ||1|| |
| Those who are imbued with the Naam, the Name of the Lord, find everlasting peace; they remain lovingly attuned to the True One. ||1|| |

| ਜੋ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਣਾਈ ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਤਿਨ ਕੀ ਕਰਹਿ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲ ॥ |

| O Dear Lord, You cherish and sustain those who seek Your Sanctuary. |

| ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਗੁਰੁ ਅਪਣਾ ਸਾਲਾਹਿ ॥ |

| O my mind, praise your Guru. |

| ਇਕੁ ਖਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰੀ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਏ ਰਸਕ ਰਸੀਕ ॥ |
| eik khin har prabh kirapaa dhhaaree gun gaaeae rasak raseek || |
| The Lord God showered me with His Mercy for an instant; I sing His Glorious Praises with joyous love and delight. |

| ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਆਪੁ ਧਰਿਓ ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਮਹਿ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਇਕਫਾ ॥੪॥੫॥ |
| har har aap dhhariou har jan mehi jan naanak har prabh eikafaa ||4||5|| |
| The Lord, Har, Har, has enshrined Himself within His humble servant. O Nanak, the Lord God and His servant are one and the same. ||4||5|| |

| ਏਕਾ ਬਖਸ ਫਿਰਿ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਨ ਬੁਲਾਵੈ ॥੩॥ |
| eaekaa bakhas fir bahur n bulaavai ||3|| |
| He forgives, once and for all, and never asks for one's account again. ||3|| |

| ਲਾਹਾ ਖਾਟਿ ਹੋਈਐ ਧਨਵੰਤਾ ਅਪੁਨਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਧਿਆਈਐ ॥੩॥ |
| laahaa khaatt hoeeai dhhanavanthaa apunaa prabhoo dhhiaaeeai ||3|| |
| We earn the profit, and become wealthy, meditating on our God. ||3|| |
|
| ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਪੂਰੀ ਤਾ ਕੀ ਕਲਾ ॥ |
| gur pooraa pooree thaa kee kalaa || |
| The Guru is Perfect, and Perfect is His Power. |

| ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਤ ਹੋਆ ਪਰਗਾਸੁ ॥ |

| Chanting the Naam, I am enlightened. |

| Bathing in the dust of the feet of the Saints, Nanak is blessed with countless comforts. ||2||2||15|| |

| The Shabad burns away egotism from within. |

| O Nanak, by His Grace, the Gracious Lord is realized. ||8||3|| |

| ਆਵਣੁ ਜਾਣਾ ਠਾਕਿ ਰਹਾਵੈ ॥੬॥ |

| Their comings and goings in reincarnation are over and done. ||6|| |

| ਨਾਨਕੁ ਤਿਨ ਕੇ ਚਰਨ ਪਖਾਲੈ ਜਿਨਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਾਚਾ ਭਾਇਆ ॥੮॥੭॥ |
| naanak thin kae charan pakhaalai jinaa guramukh saachaa bhaaeiaa ||8||7|| |
| Nanak washes the feet of those who, as Gurmukh, love the True Lord. ||8||7|| |

| ਐਥੈ ਓਥੈ ਸੁਖੁ ਘਣਾ ਜਪਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਉਤਰੇ ਪਾਰਿ ॥੩॥ |
| aithhai outhhai sukh ghanaa jap har har outharae paar ||3|| |
| Here and hereafter, they find absolute peace; chanting the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, they are carried across to the other shore. ||3|| |

| eaek noor thae sabh jag oupajiaa koun bhalae ko mandhae ||1|| |
| From the One Light, the entire universe welled up. So who is good, and who is bad? ||1|| |

| ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਏਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਰਾਤਾ ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਣੀ ॥ |
| gur kai sabadh eaehu man raathaa dhubidhhaa sehaj samaanee || |
| This mind is imbued with the Word of the Guru's Shabad, and duality is easily overcome. |

| ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਬਾਟ ਨ ਪਾਵੈ ॥੫॥੧॥ |
| bin sathigur baatt n paavai ||5||1|| |
| Without the True Guru, you shall not find the Way. ||5||1|| |

| ਕਾਲੁ ਤਉ ਪਹੂਚਿਓ ਆਨਿ ਕਹਾ ਜੈਹੈ ਭਾਜਿ ਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |

| Death has arrived; now where will you run? ||1||Pause|| |

| Only the meditative remembrance of God remains with us. O Nanak, it brings the blessings of the Saints, the sons of the Imperishable Lord. ||1|| |

| sarabagy pooran purakh bhagavaaneh bhagath vashhal karunaa mayeh || |
| The All-knowing, Perfect, Primal Lord God is the Lover of His devotees, the Embodiment of Mercy. |

| Whoever contemplates the Lord's Lotus Feet, and enshrines His Name within the heart, |

| ਅਸਥਿਤੰ ਸੋਗ ਹਰਖੰ ਭੈ ਖੀਣੰ ਤ ਨਿਰਭਵਹ ॥ |
| asathhithan sog harakhan bhai kheenan th nirabhaveh || |
| They become steady and stable, whether happy or sad; their fears are taken away, and they are fearless. |
