| ਆਪੁ ਪਛਾਣੈ ਹਰਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਬਹੁੜਿ ਨ ਮਰਣਾ ਹੋਇ ॥ |
| aap pashhaanai har milai bahurr n maranaa hoe || |
| One who understands himself, meets with the Lord, and never dies again. |

| ਸਿਰਿ ਪੈਰੀ ਕਿਆ ਫੇੜਿਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਪਿਰੀ ਸਮ੍ਹ੍ਹਾਲਿ ॥੧੮॥ |
| sir pairee kiaa faerriaa andhar piree samhaal ||18|| |
| What have your head and feet done wrong? See your Husband Lord within yourself. ||18|| |

| ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਐਸਾ ਜਾਣੈ ਪੂਰੇ ਮਾਂਹਿ ਸਮਾਂਹੀ ॥੩੩॥ |
| naanak guramukh aisaa jaanai poorae maanhi samaanhee ||33|| |
| O Nanak, knowing this as Gurmukh, the mortal merges into the Perfect Lord God. ||33|| |

| ਭੈ ਭਗਤੀ ਭਗਤ ਬਹੁ ਲੋਚਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਲੋਚਾ ਪੂਰਿ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥ |
| bhai bhagathee bhagath bahu lochadhae prabh lochaa poor milaae || |
| In the Fear of God, His devotees yearn for His devotional worship; God fulfills their desires, and merges them with Himself. |

| ਮਨਮੁਖ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਚੇਤਨੀ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਦੁਖ ਰੋਇ ॥ |
| manamukh naam n chaethanee bin naavai dhukh roe || |
| The self-willed manmukhs do not even think of the Name; without the Name, they cry in pain. |
|
| ਜਮਕਾਲੁ ਨੇੜਿ ਨ ਆਵਈ ਆਪਿ ਬਖਸੇ ਕਰਤਾਰਿ ॥ |
| jamakaal naerr n aavee aap bakhasae karathaar || |
| The Messenger of Death does not even approach them; the Creator Lord Himself forgives them. |

| ਅੰਤਰਿ ਆਇ ਵਸੈ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੁ ਵੀਚਾਰੈ ਕੋਇ ॥ |
| anthar aae vasai gur sabadh veechaarai koe || |
| The Lord comes and dwells within that one who contemplates the Word of the Guru's Shabad. |

| ਖੇਤਿ ਸਰੀਰਿ ਜੋ ਬੀਜੀਐ ਸੋ ਅੰਤਿ ਖਲੋਆ ਆਇ ॥ |
| khaeth sareer jo beejeeai so anth khaloaa aae || |
| Whatever is planted in the farm of the body, shall come and stand before them in the end. |
|
| ਮਨਮੁਖ ਦਹ ਦਿਸਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਰਹੇ ਅਤਿ ਤਿਸਨਾ ਲੋਭ ਵਿਕਾਰ ॥ |
| manamukh dheh dhis fir rehae ath thisanaa lobh vikaar || |
| The self-willed manmukhs wander lost in the ten directions, led by intense desire, greed and corruption. |
|
| ਸਬਦੁ ਚੀਨਿ ਤਿਖ ਉਤਰੈ ਮੰਨਿ ਲੈ ਰਜਾਇ ॥ |
| sabadh cheen thikh outharai mann lai rajaae || |
| Remember the Shabad, and your thirst shall be relieved; surrender to the Will of the Lord. |
|
| ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕਿਨੈ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਥਕੇ ਵੀਚਾਰ ॥ |
| bin sathigur kinai n paaeiaa kar kar thhakae veechaar || |
| Without the True Guru, no one finds the Lord. People have grown weary of thinking about it. |
|
| ਕੋ ਆਣਿ ਮਿਲਾਵੈ ਅਜੁ ਮੈ ਪਿਰੁ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਏ ॥ |
| ko aan milaavai aj mai pir mael milaaveae || |
| If only someone would come today and unite me in Union with my Beloved. |
|
| ਦਰਗਹਿ ਲੇਖਾ ਮੰਗੀਐ ਕੋਈ ਅੰਤਿ ਨ ਸਕੀ ਛਡਾਇ ॥ |
| dharagehi laekhaa mangeeai koee anth n sakee shhaddaae || |
| He shall be called to account in the Court of the Lord, and in the end, no one will be able to save him. |
|
| ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਤਿਸ ਤੇ ਹੋਇਆ ਜਿਉ ਤਿਸੈ ਦੀ ਰਜਾਇ ॥੨੪॥ |
| sabh kishh this thae hoeiaa jio thisai dhee rajaae ||24|| |
| Everything happens as He wills. ||24|| |

| ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਦਾਸੁ ਹੈ ਗੁਰ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੇ ਗੁਲ ਗੋਲੇ ॥੩੦॥ |
| jan naanak har kaa dhaas hai gur sathigur kae gul golae ||30|| |
| Servant Nanak is the slave of the Lord, the slave of the slaves of the Guru, the True Guru. ||30|| |

| ਪਤਿਤ ਉਧਾਰਣ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਸੰਮ੍ਰਥ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਅਪਾਰੁ ॥ |
| pathith oudhhaaran paarabreham sanmrathh purakh apaar || |
| The All-powerful Supreme Lord God, the Infinite Primal Being, is the Saving Grace of sinners. |

| ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਸੁਨਿ ਰੇ ਮਨਾ ਤਿਹ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਗਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥੯॥ |
| kahu naanak sun rae manaa thih simarath gath hoe ||9|| |
| Says Nanak, listen, mind: meditating in remembrance on Him, salvation is attained. ||9|| |
|
| ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਾਨੀ ਨਿਸਿ ਦਿਨੁ ਭਜੈ ਰੂਪ ਰਾਮ ਤਿਹ ਜਾਨੁ ॥ |
| jo praanee nis dhin bhajai roop raam thih jaan || |
| That mortal who meditates and vibrates upon the Lord night and day - know him to be the embodiment of the Lord. |

| ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਇਹ ਬਿਧਿ ਭਈ ਤਊ ਨ ਹਰਿ ਰਸਿ ਲੀਨ ॥੪੭॥ |
| kahu naanak eih bidhh bhee thoo n har ras leen ||47|| |
| Says Nanak, this is your condition. And even now, you have not savored the sublime essence of the Lord. ||47|| |

| ਪ੍ਰਥਮ ਰਾਗ ਭੈਰਉ ਵੈ ਕਰਹੀ ॥ |
| prathham raag bhairo vai karehee || |
| In the first place is Raag Bhairao. |
|
| ਸਭੈ ਪੁਤ੍ਰ ਰਾਗੰਨ ਕੇ ਅਠਾਰਹ ਦਸ ਬੀਸ ॥੧॥੧॥ |
| sabhai puthr raagann kae athaareh dhas bees ||1||1|| |
| and all the forty-eight sons of the Raagas. ||1||1|| |
