ਤਿਨ ਮੁਖਿ ਟਿਕੇ ਨਿਕਲਹਿ ਜਿਨ ਮਨਿ ਸਚਾ ਨਾਉ ॥ |
thin mukh ttikae nikalehi jin man sachaa naao || |
the faces of those whose minds are attuned to the True Name are anointed with the Mark of Grace. |

ਕਰਮਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਤਾ ਪਾਈਐ ਨਾਹੀ ਗਲੀ ਵਾਉ ਦੁਆਉ ॥੨॥ |
karam milai thaa paaeeai naahee galee vaao dhuaao ||2|| |
If one receives God's Grace, then such honors are received, and not by mere words. ||2|| |

ਇਕਿ ਆਵਹਿ ਇਕਿ ਜਾਹਿ ਉਠਿ ਰਖੀਅਹਿ ਨਾਵ ਸਲਾਰ ॥ |
eik aavehi eik jaahi outh rakheeahi naav salaar || |
Some come, and some arise and depart. They give themselves lofty names. |

ਇਕਿ ਉਪਾਏ ਮੰਗਤੇ ਇਕਨਾ ਵਡੇ ਦਰਵਾਰ ॥ |
eik oupaaeae mangathae eikanaa vaddae dharavaar || |
Some are born beggars, and some hold vast courts. |
|
ਅਗੈ ਗਇਆ ਜਾਣੀਐ ਵਿਣੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਵੇਕਾਰ ॥੩॥ |
agai gaeiaa jaaneeai vin naavai vaekaar ||3|| |
Going to the world hereafter, everyone shall realize that without the Name, it is all useless. ||3|| |

ਭੈ ਤੇਰੈ ਡਰੁ ਅਗਲਾ ਖਪਿ ਖਪਿ ਛਿਜੈ ਦੇਹ ॥ |
bhai thaerai ddar agalaa khap khap shhijai dhaeh || |
I am terrified by the Fear of You, God. Bothered and bewildered, my body is wasting away. |

ਨਾਵ ਜਿਨਾ ਸੁਲਤਾਨ ਖਾਨ ਹੋਦੇ ਡਿਠੇ ਖੇਹ ॥ |
naav jinaa sulathaan khaan hodhae ddithae khaeh || |
Those who are known as sultans and emperors shall be reduced to dust in the end. |

ਨਾਨਕ ਉਠੀ ਚਲਿਆ ਸਭਿ ਕੂੜੇ ਤੁਟੇ ਨੇਹ ॥੪॥੬॥ |
naanak outhee chaliaa sabh koorrae thuttae naeh ||4||6|| |
O Nanak, arising and departing, all false attachments are cut away. ||4||6|| |

Believing, all tastes are sweet. Hearing, the salty flavors are tasted; |

ਖਟ ਤੁਰਸੀ ਮੁਖਿ ਬੋਲਣਾ ਮਾਰਣ ਨਾਦ ਕੀਏ ॥ |
khatt thurasee mukh bolanaa maaran naadh keeeae || |
chanting with one's mouth, the spicy flavors are savored. All these spices have been made from the Sound-current of the Naad. |

ਛਤੀਹ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਭਾਉ ਏਕੁ ਜਾ ਕਉ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇਇ ॥੧॥ |
shhatheeh anmrith bhaao eaek jaa ko nadhar karaee ||1|| |
The thirty-six flavors of ambrosial nectar are in the Love of the One Lord; they are tasted only by one who is blessed by His Glance of Grace. ||1|| |

ਬਾਬਾ ਹੋਰੁ ਖਾਣਾ ਖੁਸੀ ਖੁਆਰੁ ॥ |
baabaa hor khaanaa khusee khuaar || |
O Baba, the pleasures of other foods are false. |

ਜਿਤੁ ਖਾਧੈ ਤਨੁ ਪੀੜੀਐ ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਚਲਹਿ ਵਿਕਾਰ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
jith khaadhhai than peerreeai man mehi chalehi vikaar ||1|| rehaao || |
Eating them, the body is ruined, and wickedness and corruption enter into the mind. ||1||Pause|| |

ਰਤਾ ਪੈਨਣੁ ਮਨੁ ਰਤਾ ਸੁਪੇਦੀ ਸਤੁ ਦਾਨੁ ॥ |
rathaa painan man rathaa supaedhee sath dhaan || |
My mind is imbued with the Lord's Love; it is dyed a deep crimson. Truth and charity are my white clothes. |

ਨੀਲੀ ਸਿਆਹੀ ਕਦਾ ਕਰਣੀ ਪਹਿਰਣੁ ਪੈਰ ਧਿਆਨੁ ॥ |
neelee siaahee kadhaa karanee pehiran pair dhhiaan || |
The blackness of sin is erased by my wearing of blue clothes, and meditation on the Lord's Lotus Feet is my robe of honor. |

ਕਮਰਬੰਦੁ ਸੰਤੋਖ ਕਾ ਧਨੁ ਜੋਬਨੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮੁ ॥੨॥ |
kamarabandh santhokh kaa dhhan joban thaeraa naam ||2|| |
Contentment is my cummerbund, Your Name is my wealth and youth. ||2|| |

ghorrae paakhar sueinae saakhath boojhan thaeree vaatt || |
The understanding of Your Way, Lord, is horses, saddles and bags of gold for me. |

ਤਰਕਸ ਤੀਰ ਕਮਾਣ ਸਾਂਗ ਤੇਗਬੰਦ ਗੁਣ ਧਾਤੁ ॥ |
tharakas theer kamaan saang thaegabandh gun dhhaath || |
The pursuit of virtue is my bow and arrow, my quiver, sword and scabbard. |

ਵਾਜਾ ਨੇਜਾ ਪਤਿ ਸਿਉ ਪਰਗਟੁ ਕਰਮੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਮੇਰੀ ਜਾਤਿ ॥੩॥ |
vaajaa naejaa path sio paragatt karam thaeraa maeree jaath ||3|| |
To be distinguished with honor is my drum and banner. Your Mercy is my social status. ||3|| |

ਬਾਬਾ ਹੋਰੁ ਚੜਣਾ ਖੁਸੀ ਖੁਆਰੁ ॥ |

O Baba, the pleasures of other rides are false. |

ਜਿਤੁ ਚੜਿਐ ਤਨੁ ਪੀੜੀਐ ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਚਲਹਿ ਵਿਕਾਰ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |

By such rides, the body is ruined, and wickedness and corruption enter into the mind. ||1||Pause|| |

ਹੁਕਮੁ ਸੋਈ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵਸੀ ਹੋਰੁ ਆਖਣੁ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਅਪਾਰੁ ॥ |
hukam soee thudhh bhaavasee hor aakhan bahuth apaar || |
The Hukam of Your Command is the pleasure of Your Will, Lord. To say anything else is far beyond anyone's reach. |

ਨਾਨਕ ਸਚਾ ਪਾਤਿਸਾਹੁ ਪੂਛਿ ਨ ਕਰੇ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ॥੪॥ |
naanak sachaa paathisaahu pooshh n karae beechaar ||4|| |
O Nanak, the True King does not seek advice from anyone else in His decisions. ||4|| |

O Baba, the pleasure of other sleep is false. |

kungoo kee kaaneiaa rathanaa kee lalithaa agar vaas than saas || |
With the body of saffron, and the tongue a jewel, and the breath of the body pure fragrant incense; |

ਅਠਸਠਿ ਤੀਰਥ ਕਾ ਮੁਖਿ ਟਿਕਾ ਤਿਤੁ ਘਟਿ ਮਤਿ ਵਿਗਾਸੁ ॥ |
athasath theerathh kaa mukh ttikaa thith ghatt math vigaas || |
with the face anointed at the sixty-eight holy places of pilgrimage, and the heart illuminated with wisdom |

ਓਤੁ ਮਤੀ ਸਾਲਾਹਣਾ ਸਚੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਗੁਣਤਾਸੁ ॥੧॥ |
outh mathee saalaahanaa sach naam gunathaas ||1|| |
-with that wisdom, chant the Praises of the True Name, the Treasure of Excellence. ||1|| |

ਬਾਬਾ ਹੋਰ ਮਤਿ ਹੋਰ ਹੋਰ ॥ |
baabaa hor math hor hor || |
O Baba, other wisdom is useless and irrelevant. |

ਜੇ ਸਉ ਵੇਰ ਕਮਾਈਐ ਕੂੜੈ ਕੂੜਾ ਜੋਰੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
jae so vaer kamaaeeai koorrai koorraa jor ||1|| rehaao || |
If falsehood is practiced a hundred times, it is still false in its effects. ||1||Pause|| |

ਪੂਜ ਲਗੈ ਪੀਰੁ ਆਖੀਐ ਸਭੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ॥ |
pooj lagai peer aakheeai sabh milai sansaar || |
You may be worshipped and adored as a Pir (a spiritual teacher); you may be welcomed by all the world; |

ਨਾਉ ਸਦਾਏ ਆਪਣਾ ਹੋਵੈ ਸਿਧੁ ਸੁਮਾਰੁ ॥ |
naao sadhaaeae aapanaa hovai sidhh sumaar || |
you may adopt a lofty name, and be known to have supernatural spiritual powers |

ਜਾ ਪਤਿ ਲੇਖੈ ਨਾ ਪਵੈ ਸਭਾ ਪੂਜ ਖੁਆਰੁ ॥੨॥ |
jaa path laekhai naa pavai sabhaa pooj khuaar ||2|| |
-even so, if you are not accepted in the Court of the Lord, then all this adoration is false. ||2|| |

ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਥਾਪਿਆ ਤਿਨ ਮੇਟਿ ਨ ਸਕੈ ਕੋਇ ॥ |
jin ko sathigur thhaapiaa thin maett n sakai koe || |
No one can overthrow those who have been established by the True Guru. |

ਓਨਾ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਹੈ ਨਾਮੋ ਪਰਗਟੁ ਹੋਇ ॥ |
ounaa andhar naam nidhhaan hai naamo paragatt hoe || |
The Treasure of the Naam, the Name of the Lord, is within them, and through the Naam, they are radiant and famous. |

ਨਾਉ ਪੂਜੀਐ ਨਾਉ ਮੰਨੀਐ ਅਖੰਡੁ ਸਦਾ ਸਚੁ ਸੋਇ ॥੩॥ |
naao poojeeai naao manneeai akhandd sadhaa sach soe ||3|| |
They worship the Naam, and they believe in the Naam. The True One is forever Intact and Unbroken. ||3|| |

ਖੇਹੂ ਖੇਹ ਰਲਾਈਐ ਤਾ ਜੀਉ ਕੇਹਾ ਹੋਇ ॥ |
khaehoo khaeh ralaaeeai thaa jeeo kaehaa hoe || |
When the body mingles with dust, what happens to the soul? |

ਜਲੀਆ ਸਭਿ ਸਿਆਣਪਾ ਉਠੀ ਚਲਿਆ ਰੋਇ ॥ |
jaleeaa sabh siaanapaa outhee chaliaa roe || |
All clever tricks are burnt away, and you shall depart crying. |
|
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਵਿਸਾਰਿਐ ਦਰਿ ਗਇਆ ਕਿਆ ਹੋਇ ॥੪॥੮॥ |
naanak naam visaariai dhar gaeiaa kiaa hoe ||4||8|| |
O Nanak, those who forget the Naam-what will happen when they go to the Court of the Lord? ||4||8|| |

The virtuous wife exudes virtue; the unvirtuous suffer in misery. |

ਜੇ ਲੋੜਹਿ ਵਰੁ ਕਾਮਣੀ ਨਹ ਮਿਲੀਐ ਪਿਰ ਕੂਰਿ ॥ |
jae lorrehi var kaamanee neh mileeai pir koor || |
If you long for your Husband Lord, O soul-bride, you must know that He is not met by falsehood. |

ਨਾ ਬੇੜੀ ਨਾ ਤੁਲਹੜਾ ਨਾ ਪਾਈਐ ਪਿਰੁ ਦੂਰਿ ॥੧॥ |
naa baerree naa thuleharraa naa paaeeai pir dhoor ||1|| |
No boat or raft can take you to Him. Your Husband Lord is far away. ||1|| |

ਮੇਰੇ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਪੂਰੈ ਤਖਤਿ ਅਡੋਲੁ ॥ |

My Lord and Master is Perfect; His Throne is Eternal and Immovable. |

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪੂਰਾ ਜੇ ਕਰੇ ਪਾਈਐ ਸਾਚੁ ਅਤੋਲੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
guramukh pooraa jae karae paaeeai saach athol ||1|| rehaao || |
One who attains perfection as Gurmukh, obtains the Immeasurable True Lord. ||1||Pause|| |

prabh harimandhar sohanaa this mehi maanak laal || mothee heeraa niramalaa kanchan kott reesaal || |
The Palace of the Lord God is so beautiful. Within it, there are gems, rubies, pearls and flawless diamonds. A fortress of gold surrounds this Source of Nectar. |
