| I have renounced them; meeting the Guru, I have renounced them. |

| ਮਾਨੁ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ਦੋਊ ਸਮਾਨੇ ਮਸਤਕੁ ਡਾਰਿ ਗੁਰ ਪਾਗਿਓ ॥ |
| maan abhimaan dhooo samaanae masathak ddaar gur paagiou || |
| Honor and dishonor are the same to me; I have placed my forehead upon the Guru's Feet. |

| ਸੰਪਤ ਹਰਖੁ ਨ ਆਪਤ ਦੂਖਾ ਰੰਗੁ ਠਾਕੁਰੈ ਲਾਗਿਓ ॥੧॥ |
| sanpath harakh n aapath dhookhaa rang thaakurai laagiou ||1|| |
| Wealth does not excite me, and misfortune does not disturb me; I have embraced love for my Lord and Master. ||1|| |

| ਬਾਸ ਬਾਸਰੀ ਏਕੈ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਉਦਿਆਨ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਾਗਿਓ ॥ |
| baas baasaree eaekai suaamee oudhiaan dhrisattaagiou || |
| The One Lord and Master dwells in the home; He is seen in the wilderness as well. |

| ਨਿਰਭਉ ਭਏ ਸੰਤ ਭ੍ਰਮੁ ਡਾਰਿਓ ਪੂਰਨ ਸਰਬਾਗਿਓ ॥੨॥ |
| nirabho bheae santh bhram ddaariou pooran sarabaagiou ||2|| |
| I have become fearless; the Saint has removed my doubts. The All-knowing Lord is pervading everywhere. ||2|| |

| ਜੋ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਰਤੈ ਕਾਰਣੁ ਕੀਨੋ ਮਨਿ ਬੁਰੋ ਨ ਲਾਗਿਓ ॥ |

| Whatever the Creator does, my mind is not troubled. |

| By the Grace of the Saints and the Company of the Holy, my sleeping mind has been awakened. ||3|| |

| My body is cooled, my mind is cooled and soothed, and I am absorbed into the Shabad, the Word of the True Guru. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਲਾਥੀ ਭੂਖ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨ ਸਭ ਲਾਥੀ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਸਗਲ ਬਿਸਾਰੀ ॥ |

| My hunger has departed, my thirst has totally departed, and all my anxiety is forgotten. |

| ਕਰੁ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਧਰਿਓ ਮਨੁ ਜੀਤੋ ਜਗੁ ਸਾਰੀ ॥੧॥ |

| The Perfect Guru has placed His Hand upon my forehead; conquering my mind, I have conquered the whole world. ||1|| |

| ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਅਘਾਇ ਰਹੇ ਰਿਦ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਡੋਲਨ ਤੇ ਅਬ ਚੂਕੇ ॥ |

| Satisfied and satiated, I remain steady within my heart, and now, I do not waver at all. |

| ਅਖੁਟੁ ਖਜਾਨਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਦੀਆ ਤੋਟਿ ਨਹੀ ਰੇ ਮੂਕੇ ॥੨॥ |
| akhutt khajaanaa sathigur dheeaa thott nehee rae mookae ||2|| |
| The True Guru has given me the inexhaustible treasure; it never decreases, and never runs out. ||2|| |

| ਅਚਰਜੁ ਏਕੁ ਸੁਨਹੁ ਰੇ ਭਾਈ ਗੁਰਿ ਐਸੀ ਬੂਝ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥ |

| Listen to this wonder, O Siblings of Destiny: the Guru has given me this understanding. |

| ਲਾਹਿ ਪਰਦਾ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਜਉ ਭੇਟਿਓ ਤਉ ਬਿਸਰੀ ਤਾਤਿ ਪਰਾਈ ॥੩॥ |
| laahi paradhaa thaakur jo bhaettiou tho bisaree thaath paraaee ||3|| |
| I threw off the veil of illusion, when I met my Lord and Master; then, I forgot my jealousy of others. ||3|| |
|
| ਕਹਿਓ ਨ ਜਾਈ ਏਹੁ ਅਚੰਭਉ ਸੋ ਜਾਨੈ ਜਿਨਿ ਚਾਖਿਆ ॥ |
| kehiou n jaaee eaehu achanbho so jaanai jin chaakhiaa || |
| This is a wonder which cannot be described. They alone know it, who have tasted it. |

| ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਚ ਭਏ ਬਿਗਾਸਾ ਗੁਰਿ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਰਿਦੈ ਲੈ ਰਾਖਿਆ ॥੪॥੩॥੧੬੧॥ |
| kahu naanak sach bheae bigaasaa gur nidhhaan ridhai lai raakhiaa ||4||3||161|| |
| Says Nanak, the Truth has been revealed to me. The Guru has given me the treasure; I have taken it and enshrined it within my heart. ||4||3||161|| |

| ਸਰਬ ਲੋਕ ਮਾਇਆ ਕੇ ਮੰਡਲ ਗਿਰਿ ਗਿਰਿ ਪਰਤੇ ਧਰਣੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| sarab lok maaeiaa kae manddal gir gir parathae dhharanee ||1|| rehaao || |
| All other people, in the mansion of Maya, fall flat on their faces on the ground. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਸਾਸਤ ਸਿੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਬੇਦ ਬੀਚਾਰੇ ਮਹਾ ਪੁਰਖਨ ਇਉ ਕਹਿਆ ॥ |
| saasath sinmrith baedh beechaarae mehaa purakhan eio kehiaa || |
| The great men have studied the Shaastras, the Simritees and the Vedas, and they have said this: |

| ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਭਜਨ ਨਾਹੀ ਨਿਸਤਾਰਾ ਸੂਖੁ ਨ ਕਿਨਹੂੰ ਲਹਿਆ ॥੧॥ |
| bin har bhajan naahee nisathaaraa sookh n kinehoon lehiaa ||1|| |
| "Without the Lord's meditation, there is no emancipation, and no one has ever found peace."||1|| |
|
| ਤੀਨਿ ਭਵਨ ਕੀ ਲਖਮੀ ਜੋਰੀ ਬੂਝਤ ਨਾਹੀ ਲਹਰੇ ॥ |
| theen bhavan kee lakhamee joree boojhath naahee leharae || |
| People may accumulate the wealth of the three worlds, but the waves of greed are still not subdued. |

| ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਹਾ ਥਿਤਿ ਪਾਵੈ ਫਿਰਤੋ ਪਹਰੇ ਪਹਰੇ ॥੨॥ |
| bin har bhagath kehaa thhith paavai firatho peharae peharae ||2|| |
| Without devotional worship of the Lord, where can anyone find stability? People wander around endlessly. ||2|| |
|
| ਅਨਿਕ ਬਿਲਾਸ ਕਰਤ ਮਨ ਮੋਹਨ ਪੂਰਨ ਹੋਤ ਨ ਕਾਮਾ ॥ |
| anik bilaas karath man mohan pooran hoth n kaamaa || |
| People engage in all sorts of mind-enticing pastimes, but their passions are not fulfilled. |

| ਜਲਤੋ ਜਲਤੋ ਕਬਹੂ ਨ ਬੂਝਤ ਸਗਲ ਬ੍ਰਿਥੇ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਮਾ ॥੩॥ |
| jalatho jalatho kabehoo n boojhath sagal brithhae bin naamaa ||3|| |
| They burn and burn, and are never satisfied; without the Lord's Name, it is all useless. ||3|| |
|
| ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਹੁ ਮੇਰੇ ਮੀਤਾ ਇਹੈ ਸਾਰ ਸੁਖੁ ਪੂਰਾ ॥ |
| har kaa naam japahu maerae meethaa eihai saar sukh pooraa || |
| Chant the Name of the Lord, my friend; this is the essence of perfect peace. |

| ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣੁ ਨਿਵਾਰੈ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਨ ਕੀ ਧੂਰਾ ॥੪॥੪॥੧੬੨॥ |
| saadhhasangath janam maran nivaarai naanak jan kee dhhooraa ||4||4||162|| |
| In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, birth and death are ended. Nanak is the dust of the feet of the humble. ||4||4||162|| |

| anajaanath kishh einehi kamaano jap thap kashhoo n saadhhaa || |
| This person does things in ignorance; he does not chant in meditation, and does not perform any deep, self-disciplined meditation. |

| ਦਹ ਦਿਸਿ ਲੈ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਦਉਰਾਇਓ ਕਵਨ ਕਰਮ ਕਰਿ ਬਾਧਾ ॥੧॥ |
| dheh dhis lai eihu man dhouraaeiou kavan karam kar baadhhaa ||1|| |
| This mind wanders around in the ten directions - how can it be restrained? ||1|| |
|
| ਭਰਮ ਮੋਹ ਕਛੁ ਸੂਝਸਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਇਹ ਪੈਖਰ ਪਏ ਪੈਰਾ ॥੨॥ |
| bharam moh kashh soojhas naahee eih paikhar peae pairaa ||2|| |
| In doubt and emotional attachment, this person understands nothing; with this leash, these feet are tied up. ||2|| |
|
| ਤਬ ਇਹੁ ਕਹਾ ਕਮਾਵਨ ਪਰਿਆ ਜਬ ਇਹੁ ਕਛੂ ਨ ਹੋਤਾ ॥ |
| thab eihu kehaa kamaavan pariaa jab eihu kashhoo n hothaa || |
| What did this person do, when he did not exist? |

| ਜਬ ਏਕ ਨਿਰੰਜਨ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਆਪਹਿ ਕਰਤਾ ॥੩॥ |
| jab eaek niranjan nirankaar prabh sabh kishh aapehi karathaa ||3|| |
| When the Immaculate and Formless Lord God was all alone, He did everything by Himself. ||3|| |
|
| ਅਪਨੇ ਕਰਤਬ ਆਪੇ ਜਾਨੈ ਜਿਨਿ ਇਹੁ ਰਚਨੁ ਰਚਾਇਆ ॥ |
| apanae karathab aapae jaanai jin eihu rachan rachaaeiaa || |
| He alone knows His actions; He created this creation. |

| ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਕਰਣਹਾਰੁ ਹੈ ਆਪੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਭਰਮੁ ਚੁਕਾਇਆ ॥੪॥੫॥੧੬੩॥ |

| jap thap sanjam karam kamaanae eihi ourai moosae ||1|| rehaao || |
| Meditative chants, intense deep meditation, austere self-discipline and rituals - these are plundered in this world. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਬਰਤ ਨੇਮ ਸੰਜਮ ਮਹਿ ਰਹਤਾ ਤਿਨ ਕਾ ਆਢੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ॥ |
| barath naem sanjam mehi rehathaa thin kaa aadt n paaeiaa || |
| Fasting, daily rituals, and austere self-discipline - those who keep the practice of these, are rewarded with less than a shell. |

| ਆਗੈ ਚਲਣੁ ਅਉਰੁ ਹੈ ਭਾਈ ਊਂਹਾ ਕਾਮਿ ਨ ਆਇਆ ॥੧॥ |
| aagai chalan aour hai bhaaee oonehaa kaam n aaeiaa ||1|| |
| Hereafter, the way is different, O Siblings of Destiny. There, these things are of no use at all. ||1|| |

| ਤੀਰਥਿ ਨਾਇ ਅਰੁ ਧਰਨੀ ਭ੍ਰਮਤਾ ਆਗੈ ਠਉਰ ਨ ਪਾਵੈ ॥ |
| theerathh naae ar dhharanee bhramathaa aagai thour n paavai || |
| Those who bathe at sacred shrines of pilgrimage, and wander over the earth, find no place of rest hereafter. |
