| I worship Him, and I am absorbed in the Lord's Name. |

| sikhiaa dheekhiaa bhojan bhaao || |
| The Lord's Love is my instruction, sermon and food. |

| ਹੁਕਮਿ ਸੰਜੋਗੀ ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਜਾਉ ॥੬॥ |
| hukam sanjogee nij ghar jaao ||6|| |
| Enjoined to the Lord's Command, I have entered the home of my inner self. ||6|| |

| ਗਰਬ ਗਤੰ ਸੁਖ ਆਤਮ ਧਿਆਨਾ ॥ |
| garab gathan sukh aatham dhhiaanaa || |
| With the extinction of pride, my soul has found peace and meditation. |
|
| ਜੋਤਿ ਭਈ ਜੋਤੀ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਮਾਨਾ ॥ |
| joth bhee jothee maahi samaanaa || |
| The Divine Light has dawned, and I am absorbed in the Light. |
|
| ਲਿਖਤੁ ਮਿਟੈ ਨਹੀ ਸਬਦੁ ਨੀਸਾਨਾ ॥ |
| likhath mittai nehee sabadh neesaanaa || |
| Pre-ordained destiny cannot be erased; the Shabad is my banner and insignia. |

| ਕਰਤਾ ਕਰਣਾ ਕਰਤਾ ਜਾਨਾ ॥੭॥ |
| karathaa karanaa karathaa jaanaa ||7|| |
| I know the Creator, the Creator of His Creation. ||7|| |
|
| ਨਹ ਪੰਡਿਤੁ ਨਹ ਚਤੁਰੁ ਸਿਆਨਾ ॥ |

| I am not a learned Pandit, I am not clever or wise. |
|
| ਨਹ ਭੂਲੋ ਨਹ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਨਾ ॥ |
| neh bhoolo neh bharam bhulaanaa || |
| I do not wander; I am not deluded by doubt. |
|
| ਕਥਉ ਨ ਕਥਨੀ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਪਛਾਨਾ ॥ |
| kathho n kathhanee hukam pashhaanaa || |
| I do not speak empty speech; I have recognized the Hukam of His Command. |

| The mind is an elephant in the forest of the body. |

| ਗੁਰੁ ਅੰਕਸੁ ਸਚੁ ਸਬਦੁ ਨੀਸਾਨੈ ॥ਰਾਜ ਦੁਆਰੈ ਸੋਭ ਸੁ ਮਾਨੈ ॥੧॥ |
| gur ankas sach sabadh neesaanai || raaj dhuaarai sobh s maanai ||1|| |
| The Guru is the controlling stick; when the Insignia of the True Shabad is applied, one obtains honor in the Court of God the King. ||1|| |

| ਚਤੁਰਾਈ ਨਹ ਚੀਨਿਆ ਜਾਇ ॥ |
| chathuraaee neh cheeniaa jaae || |
| He cannot be known through clever tricks. |
|
| ਬਿਨੁ ਮਾਰੇ ਕਿਉ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਪਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| bin maarae kio keemath paae ||1|| rehaao || |
| Without subduing the mind, how can His value be estimated? ||1||Pause|| |

| ਘਰ ਮਹਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਤਸਕਰੁ ਲੇਈ ॥ |
| ghar mehi anmrith thasakar laeee || |
| In the house of the self is the Ambrosial Nectar, which is being stolen by the thieves. |
|
| ਨੰਨਾਕਾਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਇ ਕਰੇਈ ॥ |
| nannaakaar n koe karaeee || |
| No one can say no to them. |
|
| ਰਾਖੈ ਆਪਿ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਦੇਈ ॥੨॥ |
| raakhai aap vaddiaaee dhaeee ||2|| |
| He Himself protects us, and blesses us with greatness. ||2|| |
|
| ਨੀਲ ਅਨੀਲ ਅਗਨਿ ਇਕ ਠਾਈ ॥ |
| neel aneel agan eik thaaee || |
| There are billions, countless billions of fires of desire at the seat of the mind. |
|
| ਜਲਿ ਨਿਵਰੀ ਗੁਰਿ ਬੂਝ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥ |
| jal nivaree gur boojh bujhaaee || |
| They are extinguished only with the water of understanding, imparted by the Guru. |
|
| ਮਨੁ ਦੇ ਲੀਆ ਰਹਸਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਈ ॥੩॥ |
| man dhae leeaa rehas gun gaaee ||3|| |
| Offering my mind, I have attained it, and I joyfully sing His Glorious Praises. ||3|| |
|
| ਜੈਸਾ ਘਰਿ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਸੋ ਤੈਸਾ ॥ |
| jaisaa ghar baahar so thaisaa || |
| Just as He is within the home of the self, so is He beyond. |
|
| ਬੈਸਿ ਗੁਫਾ ਮਹਿ ਆਖਉ ਕੈਸਾ ॥ |
| bais gufaa mehi aakho kaisaa || |
| But how can I describe Him, sitting in a cave? |
|
| ਸਾਗਰਿ ਡੂਗਰਿ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਐਸਾ ॥੪॥ |
| saagar ddoogar nirabho aisaa ||4|| |
| The Fearless Lord is in the oceans, just as He is in the mountains. ||4|| |
|
| ਮੂਏ ਕਉ ਕਹੁ ਮਾਰੇ ਕਉਨੁ ॥ |
| mooeae ko kahu maarae koun || |
| Tell me, who can kill someone who is already dead? |
|
| ਨਿਡਰੇ ਕਉ ਕੈਸਾ ਡਰੁ ਕਵਨੁ ॥ |
| niddarae ko kaisaa ddar kavan || |
| What does he fear? Who can frighten the fearless one? |
|
| ਸਬਦਿ ਪਛਾਨੈ ਤੀਨੇ ਭਉਨ ॥੫॥ |
| sabadh pashhaanai theenae bhoun ||5|| |
| He recognizes the Word of the Shabad, throughout the three worlds. ||5|| |
|
| ਜਿਨਿ ਕਹਿਆ ਤਿਨਿ ਕਹਨੁ ਵਖਾਨਿਆ ॥ |
| jin kehiaa thin kehan vakhaaniaa || |
| One who speaks, merely describes speech. |
|
| ਜਿਨਿ ਬੂਝਿਆ ਤਿਨਿ ਸਹਜਿ ਪਛਾਨਿਆ ॥ |
| jin boojhiaa thin sehaj pashhaaniaa || |
| But one who understands, intuitively realizes. |
|
| ਦੇਖਿ ਬੀਚਾਰਿ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨਿਆ ॥੬॥ |
| dhaekh beechaar maeraa man maaniaa ||6|| |
| Seeing and reflecting upon it, my mind surrenders. ||6|| |
|
| ਕੀਰਤਿ ਸੂਰਤਿ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਇਕ ਨਾਈ ॥ |
| keerath soorath mukath eik naaee || |
| Praise, beauty and liberation are in the One Name. |
|
| ਤਹੀ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੁ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਈ ॥ |
| thehee niranjan rehiaa samaaee || |
| In it, the Immaculate Lord is permeating and pervading. |
|
| ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਬਿਆਪਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਨਿਜ ਠਾਈ ॥੭॥ |
| nij ghar biaap rehiaa nij thaaee ||7|| |
| He dwells in the home of the self, and in His own sublime place. ||7|| |
|
| ਤਨਿ ਮਨਿ ਸੂਚੈ ਸਾਚੁ ਸੁ ਚੀਤਿ ॥ |
| than man soochai saach s cheeth || |
| Their bodies and minds are purified, as they enshrine the True Lord in their consciousness. |
|
| ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਭਜੁ ਨੀਤਾ ਨੀਤਿ ॥੮॥੨॥ |

| O Nanak, meditate on the Lord, each and every day. ||8||2|| |

| The mind does not die, so the job is not accomplished. |

| ਮਨੁ ਵਸਿ ਦੂਤਾ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਦੋਇ ॥ |
| man vas dhoothaa dhuramath dhoe || |
| The mind is under the power of the demons of evil intellect and duality. |
|
| ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨੈ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਇਕੁ ਹੋਇ ॥੧॥ |
| man maanai gur thae eik hoe ||1|| |
| But when the mind surrenders, through the Guru, it becomes one. ||1|| |
|
| ਨਿਰਗੁਣ ਰਾਮੁ ਗੁਣਹ ਵਸਿ ਹੋਇ ॥ |

| The Lord is without attributes; the attributes of virtue are under His control. |

| ਆਪੁ ਨਿਵਾਰਿ ਬੀਚਾਰੇ ਸੋਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |

| One who eliminates selfishness contemplates Him. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਮਨੁ ਭੂਲੋ ਬਹੁ ਚਿਤੈ ਵਿਕਾਰੁ ॥ |

| The deluded mind thinks of all sorts of corruption. |
|
| ਮਨੁ ਭੂਲੋ ਸਿਰਿ ਆਵੈ ਭਾਰੁ ॥ |
| man bhoolo sir aavai bhaar || |
| When the mind is deluded, the load of wickedness falls on the head. |
|
| ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨੈ ਹਰਿ ਏਕੰਕਾਰੁ ॥੨॥ |
| man maanai har eaekankaar ||2|| |
| But when the mind surrenders to the Lord, it realizes the One and Only Lord. ||2|| |
|
| ਮਨੁ ਭੂਲੋ ਮਾਇਆ ਘਰਿ ਜਾਇ ॥ |
| man bhoolo maaeiaa ghar jaae || |
| The deluded mind enters the house of Maya. |
|
| ਕਾਮਿ ਬਿਰੂਧਉ ਰਹੈ ਨ ਠਾਇ ॥ |
| kaam biroodhho rehai n thaae || |
| Engrossed in sexual desire, it does not remain steady. |
|
| ਹਰਿ ਭਜੁ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਰਸਨ ਰਸਾਇ ॥੩॥ |
| har bhaj praanee rasan rasaae ||3|| |
| O mortal, lovingly vibrate the Lord's Name with your tongue. ||3|| |
|
| ਗੈਵਰ ਹੈਵਰ ਕੰਚਨ ਸੁਤ ਨਾਰੀ ॥ |
| gaivar haivar kanchan suth naaree || |
| Elephants, horses, gold, children and spouses |
|
| ਬਹੁ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਪਿੜ ਚਾਲੈ ਹਾਰੀ ॥ |
| bahu chinthaa pirr chaalai haaree || |
| in the anxious affairs of all these, people lose the game and depart. |
|
