| ਰਹਹਿ ਅਤੀਤ ਸਚੇ ਸਰਣਾਈ ॥੧॥ |
| rehehi atheeth sachae saranaaee ||1|| |
| They remain unattached, in the Sanctuary of the True Lord. ||1|| |

| ਸਚ ਘਰਿ ਬੈਸੈ ਕਾਲੁ ਨ ਜੋਹੈ ॥ |
| sach ghar baisai kaal n johai || |
| They dwell in their true home, and Death does not touch them. |
|
| ਮਨਮੁਖ ਕਉ ਆਵਤ ਜਾਵਤ ਦੁਖੁ ਮੋਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| manamukh ko aavath jaavath dhukh mohai ||1|| rehaao || |
| The self-willed manmukhs come and go, in the pain of emotional attachment. ||1||Pause|| |
|
| ਅਪਿਉ ਪੀਅਉ ਅਕਥੁ ਕਥਿ ਰਹੀਐ ॥ |
| apio peeao akathh kathh reheeai || |
| So, drink deeply of this Nectar, and speak the Unspoken Speech. |

| ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਬੈਸਿ ਸਹਜ ਘਰੁ ਲਹੀਐ ॥ |
| nij ghar bais sehaj ghar leheeai || |
| Dwelling in the home of your own being within, you shall find the home of intuitive peace. |
|
| ਹਰਿ ਰਸਿ ਮਾਤੇ ਇਹੁ ਸੁਖੁ ਕਹੀਐ ॥੨॥ |
| har ras maathae eihu sukh keheeai ||2|| |
| One who is imbued with the Lord's sublime essence, is said to experience this peace. ||2|| |

| ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਚਾਲ ਨਿਹਚਲ ਨਹੀ ਡੋਲੈ ॥ |
| guramath chaal nihachal nehee ddolai || |
| Following the Guru's Teachings, one becomes perfectly stable, and never wavers. |
|
| ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਸਾਚਿ ਸਹਜਿ ਹਰਿ ਬੋਲੈ ॥ |
| guramath saach sehaj har bolai || |
| Following the Guru's Teachings, one intuitively chants the Name of the True Lord. |

| ਪੀਵੈ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਤਤੁ ਵਿਰੋਲੈ ॥੩॥ |
| peevai anmrith thath virolai ||3|| |
| Drinking in this Ambrosial Nectar, and churning it, the essential reality is discerned. ||3|| |
|
| ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਦੇਖਿਆ ਦੀਖਿਆ ਲੀਨੀ ॥ |
| sathigur dhaekhiaa dheekhiaa leenee || |
| Beholding the True Guru, I have received His Teachings. |

| ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਅਰਪਿਓ ਅੰਤਰ ਗਤਿ ਕੀਨੀ ॥ |
| man than arapiou anthar gath keenee || |
| I have offered my mind and body, after searching deep within my own being. |
|
| ਗਤਿ ਮਿਤਿ ਪਾਈ ਆਤਮੁ ਚੀਨੀ ॥੪॥ |
| gath mith paaee aatham cheenee ||4|| |
| I have come to realize the value of understanding my own soul. ||4|| |
|
| ਭੋਜਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਰੰਜਨ ਸਾਰੁ ॥ |
| bhojan naam niranjan saar || |
| The Naam, the Name of the Immaculate Lord, is the most excellent and sublime food. |
|
| ਪਰਮ ਹੰਸੁ ਸਚੁ ਜੋਤਿ ਅਪਾਰ ॥ |
| param hans sach joth apaar || |
| The pure swan-souls see the True Light of the Infinite Lord. |
|
| ਜਹ ਦੇਖਉ ਤਹ ਏਕੰਕਾਰੁ ॥੫॥ |
| jeh dhaekho theh eaekankaar ||5|| |
| Wherever I look, I see the One and Only Lord. ||5|| |
|
| ਰਹੈ ਨਿਰਾਲਮੁ ਏਕਾ ਸਚੁ ਕਰਣੀ ॥ |
| rehai niraalam eaekaa sach karanee || |
| One who remains pure and unblemished and practices only true deeds, |
|
| ਪਰਮ ਪਦੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਸੇਵਾ ਗੁਰ ਚਰਣੀ ॥ |
| param padh paaeiaa saevaa gur charanee || |
| obtains the supreme status, serving at the Guru's Feet. |
|
| ਮਨ ਤੇ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨਿਆ ਚੂਕੀ ਅਹੰ ਭ੍ਰਮਣੀ ॥੬॥ |
| man thae man maaniaa chookee ahan bhramanee ||6|| |
| The mind is reconciliated with the mind, and the ego's wandering ways come to an end. ||6|| |
|
| ਇਨ ਬਿਧਿ ਕਉਣੁ ਕਉਣੁ ਨਹੀ ਤਾਰਿਆ ॥ |
| ein bidhh koun koun nehee thaariaa || |
| In this way, who - who has not been saved? |
|
| ਪ੍ਰਭ ਪਾਏ ਹਮ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਭਾਰਿਆ ॥੭॥ |
| prabh paaeae ham avar n bhaariaa ||7|| |
| I have found God - I am not searching for any other. ||7|| |
|
| ਸਾਚ ਮਹਲਿ ਗੁਰਿ ਅਲਖੁ ਲਖਾਇਆ ॥ |
| saach mehal gur alakh lakhaaeiaa || |
| The Guru has shown me the unseen Mansion of the True Lord. |
|
| ਨਿਹਚਲ ਮਹਲੁ ਨਹੀ ਛਾਇਆ ਮਾਇਆ ॥ |
| nihachal mehal nehee shhaaeiaa maaeiaa || |
| His Mansion is eternal and unchanging; it is not a mere reflection of Maya. |
|
| ਸਾਚਿ ਸੰਤੋਖੇ ਭਰਮੁ ਚੁਕਾਇਆ ॥੮॥ |
| saach santhokhae bharam chukaaeiaa ||8|| |
| Through truth and contentment, doubt is dispelled. ||8|| |
|
| ਜਿਨ ਕੈ ਮਨਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਸਚੁ ਸੋਈ ॥ |
| jin kai man vasiaa sach soee || |
| That person, within whose mind the True Lord dwells |
|
| ਤਿਨ ਕੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਈ ॥ |
| thin kee sangath guramukh hoee || |
| in his company, one becomes Gurmukh. |
|
| ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਚਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਮਲੁ ਖੋਈ ॥੯॥੧੫॥ |

| - receive the blessing of his darshan in the early light of dawn. ||1|| |

| ਰਾਮ ਨ ਜਪਹੁ ਅਭਾਗੁ ਤੁਮਾਰਾ ॥ |

| If you do not meditate on the Lord, it is your own misfortune. |

| ਜੁਗਿ ਜੁਗਿ ਦਾਤਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਰਾਮੁ ਹਮਾਰਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |

| In each and every age, the Great Giver is my Lord God. ||1||Pause|| |

| Following the Guru's Teachings, the perfect humble beings meditate on the Lord. |

| ਤਿਤੁ ਘਟ ਅਨਹਤ ਬਾਜੇ ਤੂਰਾ ॥੨॥ |

| Within their hearts, the unstruck melody vibrates. ||2|| |

| ਜੋ ਜਨ ਰਾਮ ਭਗਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਪਿਆਰਿ ॥ |
| jo jan raam bhagath har piaar || |
| Those who worship the Lord and love the Lord |
|
| ਸੇ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਰਾਖੇ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰਿ ॥੩॥ |
| sae prabh raakhae kirapaa dhhaar ||3|| |
| - showering His Mercy, God protects them. ||3|| |
|
| ਜਿਨ ਕੈ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਸੋਈ ॥ |
| jin kai hiradhai har har soee || |
| Those whose hearts are filled with the Lord, Har, Har |
|
| ਤਿਨ ਕਾ ਦਰਸੁ ਪਰਸਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਈ ॥੪॥ |
| thin kaa dharas paras sukh hoee ||4|| |
| - gazing upon the blessed vision of their darshan, peace is obtained. ||4|| |

| ਸਰਬ ਜੀਆ ਮਹਿ ਏਕੋ ਰਵੈ ॥ |
| sarab jeeaa mehi eaeko ravai || |
| Among all beings, the One Lord is pervading. |
|
| ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੀ ਫਿਰਿ ਜੂਨੀ ਭਵੈ ॥੫॥ |
| manamukh ahankaaree fir joonee bhavai ||5|| |
| The eogtistical, self-willed manmukhs wander in reincarnation. ||5|| |
|
| ਸੋ ਬੂਝੈ ਜੋ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪਾਏ ॥ |
| so boojhai jo sathigur paaeae || |
| They alone understand, who have found the True Guru. |
|
| ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੇ ਪਾਏ ॥੬॥ |
| houmai maarae gur sabadhae paaeae ||6|| |
| Subduing their ego, they receive the Word of the Guru's Shabad. ||6|| |
|
| ਅਰਧ ਉਰਧ ਕੀ ਸੰਧਿ ਕਿਉ ਜਾਨੈ ॥ |
| aradhh ouradhh kee sandhh kio jaanai || |
| How can anyone know of the Union between the being below and the Supreme Being above? |

| ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸੰਧਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨੈ ॥੭॥ |
| guramukh sandhh milai man maanai ||7|| |
| The Gurmukhs obtain this Union; their minds are reconciliated. ||7|| |

| ਹਮ ਪਾਪੀ ਨਿਰਗੁਣ ਕਉ ਗੁਣੁ ਕਰੀਐ ॥ |
| ham paapee niragun ko gun kareeai || |
| I am a worthless sinner, without merit. What merit do I have? |

| ਪ੍ਰਭ ਹੋਇ ਦਇਆਲੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਨ ਤਰੀਐ ॥੮॥੧੬॥ |
| prabh hoe dhaeiaal naanak jan thareeai ||8||16|| |
| When God showers His Mercy, servant Nanak is emancipated. ||8||16|| |
