| jin jin keenee maerae gur kee aasaa || |
| Whoever places his hopes in my Guru, |

| ਤਿਸ ਕੀ ਕਟੀਐ ਜਮ ਕੀ ਫਾਸਾ ॥੭॥ |
| this kee katteeai jam kee faasaa ||7|| |
| has the noose of death cut away. ||7|| |

| ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਬਚਨਿ ਜਾਗਿਆ ਮੇਰਾ ਕਰਮੁ ॥ |

| Through the Guru's Word, my good karma has been awakened. |

| I remember the Guru with each and every breath. |

| Beholding the Blessed Vision of the Guru's Darshan, I live. |

| ਗੁਰ ਕੇ ਚਰਣ ਧੋਇ ਧੋਇ ਪੀਵਾ ॥੧॥ |
| gur kae charan dhhoe dhhoe peevaa ||1|| |
| I wash the Guru's Feet, and drink in this water. ||1|| |

| ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਰੇਣੁ ਨਿਤ ਮਜਨੁ ਕਰਉ ॥ |
| gur kee raen nith majan karo || |
| I take my daily bath in the dust of the Guru's Feet. |

| ਜਨਮ ਜਨਮ ਕੀ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਲੁ ਹਰਉ ॥੨॥ |
| janam janam kee houmai mal haro ||2|| |
| The egotistical filth of countless incarnations is washed off. ||2|| |

| ਤਿਸੁ ਗੁਰ ਕਉ ਝੂਲਾਵਉ ਪਾਖਾ ॥ |
| this gur ko jhoolaavo paakhaa || |
| I wave the fan over the Guru. |
|
| ਮਹਾ ਅਗਨਿ ਤੇ ਹਾਥੁ ਦੇ ਰਾਖਾ ॥੩॥ |
| mehaa agan thae haathh dhae raakhaa ||3|| |
| Giving me His Hand, He has saved me from the great fire. ||3|| |

| ਤਿਸੁ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਗ੍ਰਿਹਿ ਢੋਵਉ ਪਾਣੀ ॥ |
| this gur kai grihi dtovo paanee || |
| I carry water for the Guru's household; |
|
| ਜਿਸੁ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਅਕਲ ਗਤਿ ਜਾਣੀ ॥੪॥ |
| jis gur thae akal gath jaanee ||4|| |
| from the Guru, I have learned the Way of the One Lord. ||4|| |
|
| ਤਿਸੁ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਗ੍ਰਿਹਿ ਪੀਸਉ ਨੀਤ ॥ |
| this gur kai grihi peeso neeth || |
| I grind the corn for the Guru's household. |
|
| ਜਿਨਿ ਗੁਰਿ ਮੋ ਕਉ ਦੀਨਾ ਜੀਉ ॥ |
| jin gur mo ko dheenaa jeeo || |
| The Guru who gave me my soul, |
|
| ਆਪੁਨਾ ਦਾਸਰਾ ਆਪੇ ਮੁਲਿ ਲੀਉ ॥੬॥ |
| aapunaa dhaasaraa aapae mul leeo ||6|| |
| has Himself purchased me, and made me His slave. ||6|| |
|
| ਆਪੇ ਲਾਇਓ ਅਪਨਾ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥ |
| aapae laaeiou apanaa piaar || |
| He Himself has blessed me with His Love. |

| ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਗੁਰ ਕਉ ਕਰੀ ਨਮਸਕਾਰੁ ॥੭॥ |
| sadhaa sadhaa this gur ko karee namasakaar ||7|| |
| Forever and ever, I humbly bow to the Guru. ||7|| |

| ਕਲਿ ਕਲੇਸ ਭੈ ਭ੍ਰਮ ਦੁਖ ਲਾਥਾ ॥ |
| kal kalaes bhai bhram dhukh laathhaa || |
| My troubles, conflicts, fears, doubts and pains have been dispelled; |

| ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਮੇਰਾ ਗੁਰੁ ਸਮਰਾਥਾ ॥੮॥੯॥ |

| Without the Naam, the Name of the Lord, cursed, cursed is love and intimacy. ||1||Pause|| |

| Without the Naam, one who dresses and eats well |
|
| ਜਿਉ ਕੂਕਰੁ ਜੂਠਨ ਮਹਿ ਪਾਇ ॥੧॥ |
| jio kookar joothan mehi paae ||1|| |
| is like a dog, who falls in and eats impure foods. ||1|| |
|
| ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨਾ ਜੇਤਾ ਬਿਉਹਾਰੁ ॥ਜਿਉ ਮਿਰਤਕ ਮਿਥਿਆ ਸੀਗਾਰੁ ॥੨॥ |
| naam binaa jaethaa biouhaar || jio mirathak mithhiaa seegaar ||2|| |
| Without the Naam, all occupations are useless, like decorations on a dead body. ||2|| |

| ਨਾਮੁ ਬਿਸਾਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਰਸ ਭੋਗ ॥ |
| naam bisaar karae ras bhog || |
| One who forgets the Naam and indulges in pleasures, |
|
| ਸੁਖੁ ਸੁਪਨੈ ਨਹੀ ਤਨ ਮਹਿ ਰੋਗ ॥੩॥ |
| sukh supanai nehee than mehi rog ||3|| |
| shall find no peace, even in dreams; his body shall become diseased. ||3|| |
|
| ਨਾਮੁ ਤਿਆਗਿ ਕਰੇ ਅਨ ਕਾਜ ॥ |
| naam thiaag karae an kaaj || |
| One who renounces the Naam and engages in other occupations, |
|
| ਬਿਨਸਿ ਜਾਇ ਝੂਠੇ ਸਭਿ ਪਾਜ ॥੪॥ |
| binas jaae jhoothae sabh paaj ||4|| |
| shall see all of his false pretenses fall away. ||4|| |
|
| ਨਾਮ ਸੰਗਿ ਮਨਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਨ ਲਾਵੈ ॥ |
| naam sang man preeth n laavai || |
| One whose mind does not embrace love for the Naam |
|
| ਕੋਟਿ ਕਰਮ ਕਰਤੋ ਨਰਕਿ ਜਾਵੈ ॥੫॥ |
| kott karam karatho narak jaavai ||5|| |
| shall go to hell, even though he may perform millions of ceremonial rituals. ||5|| |
|
| ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਿਨਿ ਮਨਿ ਨ ਆਰਾਧਾ ॥ |
| har kaa naam jin man n aaraadhhaa || |
| One whose mind does not contemplate the Name of the Lord |
|
| ਚੋਰ ਕੀ ਨਿਆਈ ਜਮ ਪੁਰਿ ਬਾਧਾ ॥੬॥ |
| chor kee niaaee jam pur baadhhaa ||6|| |
| is bound like a thief, in the City of Death. ||6|| |
|
| ਲਾਖ ਅਡੰਬਰ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਬਿਸਥਾਰਾ ॥ |
| laakh addanbar bahuth bisathhaaraa || |
| Hundreds of thousands of ostentatious shows and great expanses |
|
| ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨਾ ਝੂਠੇ ਪਾਸਾਰਾ ॥੭॥ |
| naam binaa jhoothae paasaaraa ||7|| |
| - without the Naam, all these displays are false. ||7|| |
|
| ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਸੋਈ ਜਨੁ ਲੇਇ ॥ |
| har kaa naam soee jan laee || |
| That humble being repeats the Name of the Lord, |
|
| ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਿਸੁ ਦੇਇ ॥੮॥੧੦॥ |
| kar kirapaa naanak jis dhaee ||8||10|| |
| O Nanak, whom the Lord blesses with His Mercy. ||8||10|| |

| aadh madhh jo anth nibaahai || so saajan maeraa man chaahai ||1|| |
| My mind longs for that Friend, who shall stand by me in the beginning, in the middle and in the end. ||1|| |

| ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਸਦਾ ਸੰਗਿ ਚਾਲੈ ॥ |
| har kee preeth sadhaa sang chaalai || |
| The Lord's Love goes with us forever. |

| ਦਇਆਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਪੂਰਨ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |

| The Perfect and Merciful Lord cherishes all. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਬਿਨਸਤ ਨਾਹੀ ਛੋਡਿ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥ |

| He shall never perish, and He shall never abandon me. |

| ਜਹ ਪੇਖਾ ਤਹ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੨॥ |
| jeh paekhaa theh rehiaa samaae ||2|| |
| Wherever I look, there I see Him pervading and permeating. ||2|| |

| ਸੁੰਦਰੁ ਸੁਘੜੁ ਚਤੁਰੁ ਜੀਅ ਦਾਤਾ ॥ |

| He is Beautiful, All-knowing, the most Clever, the Giver of life. |

| God is my Brother, Son, Father and Mother. ||3|| |

| He is the Support of the breath of life; He is my Wealth. |
