| ਕਰੁ ਗਹਿ ਲੇਹੁ ਓੜਿ ਨਿਬਹਾਵੈ ॥ |

| Take hold of his hand, and then he can reach his destination. |

| ਕਹਾ ਬੁਝਾਰਤਿ ਬੂਝੈ ਡੋਰਾ ॥ |

| How can a riddle be understood by the deaf? |

| ਨਿਸਿ ਕਹੀਐ ਤਉ ਸਮਝੈ ਭੋਰਾ ॥ |

| Say 'night', and he thinks you said 'day'. |

| ਕਹਾ ਬਿਸਨਪਦ ਗਾਵੈ ਗੁੰਗ ॥ |
| kehaa bisanapadh gaavai gung || |
| How can the mute sing the Songs of the Lord? |

| ਜਤਨ ਕਰੈ ਤਉ ਭੀ ਸੁਰ ਭੰਗ ॥ |
| jathan karai tho bhee sur bhang || |
| He may try, but his voice will fail him. |
 |
| ਕਹ ਪਿੰਗੁਲ ਪਰਬਤ ਪਰ ਭਵਨ ॥ |
| keh pingul parabath par bhavan || |
| How can the cripple climb up the mountain? |
 |
| ਨਹੀ ਹੋਤ ਊਹਾ ਉਸੁ ਗਵਨ ॥ |
| nehee hoth oohaa ous gavan || |
| He simply cannot go there. |
 |
| ਕਰਤਾਰ ਕਰੁਣਾ ਮੈ ਦੀਨੁ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰੈ ॥ |
| karathaar karunaa mai dheen baenathee karai || |
| O Creator, Lord of Mercy - Your humble servant prays; |

| The Lord, our Help and Support, is always with us, but the mortal does not remember Him. |

| ਜੋ ਬੈਰਾਈ ਤਾ ਸਿਉ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ॥ |
| jo bairaaee thaa sio preeth || |
| He shows love to his enemies. |
 |
| ਬਲੂਆ ਕੇ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਬਸੈ ॥ |
| balooaa kae grih bheethar basai || |
| He lives in a castle of sand. |
 |
| ਅਨਦ ਕੇਲ ਮਾਇਆ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਸੈ ॥ |
| anadh kael maaeiaa rang rasai || |
| He enjoys the games of pleasure and the tastes of Maya. |
 |
| ਦ੍ਰਿੜੁ ਕਰਿ ਮਾਨੈ ਮਨਹਿ ਪ੍ਰਤੀਤਿ ॥ |
| dhrirr kar maanai manehi pratheeth || |
| He believes them to be permanent - this is the belief of his mind. |
 |
| ਕਾਲੁ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਮੂੜੇ ਚੀਤਿ ॥ |
| kaal n aavai moorrae cheeth || |
| Death does not even come to mind for the fool. |
 |
| ਬੈਰ ਬਿਰੋਧ ਕਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਮੋਹ ॥ |
| bair birodhh kaam krodhh moh || |
| Hate, conflict, sexual desire, anger, emotional attachment, |
 |
| ਇਆਹੂ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਬਿਹਾਨੇ ਕਈ ਜਨਮ ॥ |
| eiaahoo jugath bihaanae kee janam || |
| So many lifetimes are wasted in these ways. |
 |
| ਨਾਨਕ ਰਾਖਿ ਲੇਹੁ ਆਪਨ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਮ ॥੭॥ |
| naanak raakh laehu aapan kar karam ||7|| |
| Nanak: uplift them, and redeem them, O Lord - show Your Mercy! ||7|| |

| You are our Lord and Master; to You, I offer this prayer. |

| ਜੀਉ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਸਭੁ ਤੇਰੀ ਰਾਸਿ ॥ |
| jeeo pindd sabh thaeree raas || |
| This body and soul are all Your property. |
 |
| ਤੁਮ ਮਾਤ ਪਿਤਾ ਹਮ ਬਾਰਿਕ ਤੇਰੇ ॥ |
| thum maath pithaa ham baarik thaerae || |
| You are our mother and father; we are Your children. |
 |
| ਤੁਮਰੀ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਮਹਿ ਸੂਖ ਘਨੇਰੇ ॥ |
| thumaree kirapaa mehi sookh ghanaerae || |
| In Your Grace, there are so many joys! |

| ਕੋਇ ਨ ਜਾਨੈ ਤੁਮਰਾ ਅੰਤੁ ॥ |

| No one knows Your limits. |

| ਊਚੇ ਤੇ ਊਚਾ ਭਗਵੰਤ ॥ |

| O Highest of the High, Most Generous God, |

| ਸਗਲ ਸਮਗ੍ਰੀ ਤੁਮਰੈ ਸੂਤ੍ਰਿ ਧਾਰੀ ॥ |
| sagal samagree thumarai soothr dhhaaree || |
| the whole creation is strung on Your thread. |

| ਤੁਮ ਤੇ ਹੋਇ ਸੁ ਆਗਿਆਕਾਰੀ ॥ |
| thum thae hoe s aagiaakaaree || |
| That which has come from You is under Your Command. |

| ਤੁਮਰੀ ਗਤਿ ਮਿਤਿ ਤੁਮ ਹੀ ਜਾਨੀ ॥ |
| thumaree gath mith thum hee jaanee || |
| You alone know Your state and extent. |

| ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਸ ਸਦਾ ਕੁਰਬਾਨੀ ॥੮॥੪॥ |

| One who renounces God the Giver, and attaches himself to other affairs |

| ਨਾਨਕ ਕਹੂ ਨ ਸੀਝਈ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਪਤਿ ਜਾਇ ॥੧॥ |

| - O Nanak, he shall never succeed. Without the Name, he shall lose his honor. ||1|| |

| ਦਸ ਬਸਤੂ ਲੇ ਪਾਛੈ ਪਾਵੈ ॥ |
| dhas basathoo lae paashhai paavai || |
| He obtains ten things, and puts them behind him; |

| ਏਕ ਬਸਤੁ ਕਾਰਨਿ ਬਿਖੋਟਿ ਗਵਾਵੈ ॥ |
| eaek basath kaaran bikhott gavaavai || |
| for the sake of one thing withheld, he forfeits his faith. |
 |
| ਏਕ ਭੀ ਨ ਦੇਇ ਦਸ ਭੀ ਹਿਰਿ ਲੇਇ ॥ |
| eaek bhee n dhaee dhas bhee hir laee || |
| But what if that one thing were not given, and the ten were taken away? |
 |
| ਤਉ ਮੂੜਾ ਕਹੁ ਕਹਾ ਕਰੇਇ ॥ |
| tho moorraa kahu kehaa karaee || |
| Then, what could the fool say or do? |
 |
| ਜਿਸੁ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਸਿਉ ਨਾਹੀ ਚਾਰਾ ॥ |
| jis thaakur sio naahee chaaraa || |
| Our Lord and Master cannot be moved by force. |
 |
| ਤਾ ਕਉ ਕੀਜੈ ਸਦ ਨਮਸਕਾਰਾ ॥ |
| thaa ko keejai sadh namasakaaraa || |
| Unto Him, bow forever in adoration. |
 |
| ਜਾ ਕੈ ਮਨਿ ਲਾਗਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਮੀਠਾ ॥ |
| jaa kai man laagaa prabh meethaa || |
| That one, unto whose mind God seems sweet |
 |
| ਸਰਬ ਸੂਖ ਤਾਹੂ ਮਨਿ ਵੂਠਾ ॥ |
| sarab sookh thaahoo man voothaa || |
| all pleasures come to abide in his mind. |
 |
| ਜਿਸੁ ਜਨ ਅਪਨਾ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਮਨਾਇਆ ॥ |
| jis jan apanaa hukam manaaeiaa || |
| One who abides by the Lord's Will, |
 |
| ਸਰਬ ਥੋਕ ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਨਿ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੧॥ |
| sarab thhok naanak thin paaeiaa ||1|| |
| O Nanak, obtains all things. ||1|| |

| ਅਗਨਤ ਸਾਹੁ ਅਪਨੀ ਦੇ ਰਾਸਿ ॥ |
| aganath saahu apanee dhae raas || |
| God the Banker gives endless capital to the mortal, |
 |
| ਖਾਤ ਪੀਤ ਬਰਤੈ ਅਨਦ ਉਲਾਸਿ ॥ |
| khaath peeth barathai anadh oulaas || |
| who eats, drinks and expends it with pleasure and joy. |
 |
| ਅਪੁਨੀ ਅਮਾਨ ਕਛੁ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਸਾਹੁ ਲੇਇ ॥ |
| apunee amaan kashh bahur saahu laee || |
| If some of this capital is later taken back by the Banker, |
 |
| ਅਗਿਆਨੀ ਮਨਿ ਰੋਸੁ ਕਰੇਇ ॥ |
| agiaanee man ros karaee || |
| the ignorant person shows his anger. |
 |
| ਅਪਨੀ ਪਰਤੀਤਿ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਖੋਵੈ ॥ |
| apanee paratheeth aap hee khovai || |
| He himself destroys his own credibility, |
 |
| ਬਹੁਰਿ ਉਸ ਕਾ ਬਿਸ੍ਵਾਸੁ ਨ ਹੋਵੈ ॥ |
| bahur ous kaa bisvaas n hovai || |
| and he shall not again be trusted. |
 |
| ਜਿਸ ਕੀ ਬਸਤੁ ਤਿਸੁ ਆਗੈ ਰਾਖੈ ॥ |
| jis kee basath this aagai raakhai || |
| When one offers to the Lord, that which belongs to the Lord, |
 |
| ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੀ ਆਗਿਆ ਮਾਨੈ ਮਾਥੈ ॥ |
| prabh kee aagiaa maanai maathhai || |
| and willingly abides by the Will of God's Order, |
