| In the midst of this world, do seva, |

| ਤਾ ਦਰਗਹ ਬੈਸਣੁ ਪਾਈਐ ॥ |
| thaa dharageh baisan paaeeai || |
| and you shall be given a place of honor in the Court of the Lord. |

| ਹਉ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵੀ ਆਪਣਾ ਇਕ ਮਨਿ ਇਕ ਚਿਤਿ ਭਾਇ ॥ |
| ho sathigur saevee aapanaa eik man eik chith bhaae || |
| I serve my True Guru with single-minded devotion, and lovingly focus my consciousness on Him. |

| ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮਨ ਕਾਮਨਾ ਤੀਰਥੁ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਦੇਇ ਬੁਝਾਇ ॥ |
| sathigur man kaamanaa theerathh hai jis no dhaee bujhaae || |
| The True Guru is the mind's desire and the sacred shrine of pilgrimage, for those unto whom He has given this understanding. |

| ਮਨ ਚਿੰਦਿਆ ਵਰੁ ਪਾਵਣਾ ਜੋ ਇਛੈ ਸੋ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਇ ॥ |
| man chindhiaa var paavanaa jo eishhai so fal paae || |
| The blessings of the wishes of the mind are obtained, and the fruits of one's desires. |

| ਨਾਉ ਧਿਆਈਐ ਨਾਉ ਮੰਗੀਐ ਨਾਮੇ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੧॥ |
| naao dhhiaaeeai naao mangeeai naamae sehaj samaae ||1|| |
| Meditate on the Name, worship the Name, and through the Name, you shall be absorbed in intuitive peace and poise. ||1|| |

| ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਚਾਖੁ ਤਿਖ ਜਾਇ ॥ |
| man maerae har ras chaakh thikh jaae || |
| O my mind, drink in the Sublime Essence of the Lord, and your thirst shall be quenched. |

| ਜਿਨੀ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਚਾਖਿਆ ਸਹਜੇ ਰਹੇ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| jinee guramukh chaakhiaa sehajae rehae samaae ||1|| rehaao || |
| Those Gurmukhs who have tasted it remain intuitively absorbed in the Lord. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਜਿਨੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿਆ ਤਿਨੀ ਪਾਇਆ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ॥ |
| jinee sathigur saeviaa thinee paaeiaa naam nidhhaan || |
| Those who serve the True Guru obtain the Treasure of the Naam. |

| ਅੰਤਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਚੂਕਾ ਮਨਿ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ॥ |
| anthar har ras rav rehiaa chookaa man abhimaan || |
| Deep within, they are drenched with the Essence of the Lord, and the egotistical pride of the mind is subdued. |

| ਹਿਰਦੈ ਕਮਲੁ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸਿਆ ਲਾਗਾ ਸਹਜਿ ਧਿਆਨੁ ॥ |
| hiradhai kamal pragaasiaa laagaa sehaj dhhiaan || |
| The heart-lotus blossoms forth, and they intuitively center themselves in meditation. |

| ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਹਰਿ ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਪਾਇਆ ਦਰਗਹਿ ਮਾਨੁ ॥੨॥ |
| man niramal har rav rehiaa paaeiaa dharagehi maan ||2|| |
| Their minds become pure, and they remain immersed in the Lord; they are honored in His Court. ||2|| |

| ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਨਿ ਆਪਣਾ ਤੇ ਵਿਰਲੇ ਸੰਸਾਰਿ ॥ |
| sathigur saevan aapanaa thae viralae sansaar || |
| Those who serve the True Guru in this world are very rare. |

| ਹਉਮੈ ਮਮਤਾ ਮਾਰਿ ਕੈ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਖਿਆ ਉਰ ਧਾਰਿ ॥ |
| houmai mamathaa maar kai har raakhiaa our dhhaar || |
| Those who keep the Lord enshrined in their hearts subdue egotism and possessiveness. |

| ਹਉ ਤਿਨ ਕੈ ਬਲਿਹਾਰਣੈ ਜਿਨਾ ਨਾਮੇ ਲਗਾ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥ |
| ho thin kai balihaaranai jinaa naamae lagaa piaar || |
| I am a sacrifice to those who are in love with the Naam. |

| ਸੇਈ ਸੁਖੀਏ ਚਹੁ ਜੁਗੀ ਜਿਨਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਖੁਟੁ ਅਪਾਰੁ ॥੩॥ |
| saeee sukheeeae chahu jugee jinaa naam akhutt apaar ||3|| |
| Those who attain the Inexhaustible Name of the Infinite Lord remain happy throughout the four ages. ||3|| |

| ਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਚੂਕੈ ਮੋਹ ਪਿਆਸ ॥ |
| gur miliai naam paaeeai chookai moh piaas || |
| Meeting with the Guru, the Naam is obtained, and the thirst of emotional attachment departs. |

| ਹਰਿ ਸੇਤੀ ਮਨੁ ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਘਰ ਹੀ ਮਾਹਿ ਉਦਾਸੁ ॥ |
| har saethee man rav rehiaa ghar hee maahi oudhaas || |
| When the mind is permeated with the Lord, one remains detached within the home of the heart. |

| ਜਿਨਾ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਸਾਦੁ ਆਇਆ ਹਉ ਤਿਨ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੈ ਜਾਸੁ ॥ |
| jinaa har kaa saadh aaeiaa ho thin balihaarai jaas || |
| I am a sacrifice to those who enjoy the Sublime Taste of the Lord. |

| ਨਾਨਕ ਨਦਰੀ ਪਾਈਐ ਸਚੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਗੁਣਤਾਸੁ ॥੪॥੧॥੩੪॥ |

| O Nanak, by His Glance of Grace, the True Name, the Treasure of Excellence, is obtained. ||4||1||34|| |

| bahu bhaekh kar bharamaaeeai man hiradhai kapatt kamaae || |
| People wear all sorts of costumes and wander all around, but in their hearts and minds, they practice deception. |

| ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਮਹਲੁ ਨ ਪਾਵਈ ਮਰਿ ਵਿਸਟਾ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੧॥ |
| har kaa mehal n paavee mar visattaa maahi samaae ||1|| |
| They do not attain the Mansion of the Lord's Presence, and after death, they sink into manure. ||1|| |

| ਮਨ ਰੇ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਹੀ ਮਾਹਿ ਉਦਾਸੁ ॥ |
| man rae grih hee maahi oudhaas || |
| O mind, remain detached in the midst of your household. |
 |
| ਸਚੁ ਸੰਜਮੁ ਕਰਣੀ ਸੋ ਕਰੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਇ ਪਰਗਾਸੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| sach sanjam karanee so karae guramukh hoe paragaas ||1|| rehaao || |
| Practicing truth, self-discipline and good deeds, the Gurmukh is enlightened. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਨੁ ਜੀਤਿਆ ਗਤਿ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਘਰੈ ਮਹਿ ਪਾਇ ॥ |
| gur kai sabadh man jeethiaa gath mukath gharai mehi paae || |
| Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, the mind is conquered, and one attains the State of Liberation in one's own home. |

| ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਈਐ ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥੨॥ |
| har kaa naam dhhiaaeeai sathasangath mael milaae ||2|| |
| So meditate on the Name of the Lord; join and merge with the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation. ||2|| |

| ਜੇ ਲਖ ਇਸਤਰੀਆ ਭੋਗ ਕਰਹਿ ਨਵ ਖੰਡ ਰਾਜੁ ਕਮਾਹਿ ॥ |
| jae lakh eisathareeaa bhog karehi nav khandd raaj kamaahi || |
| You may enjoy the pleasures of hundreds of thousands of women, and rule the nine continents of the world. |

| ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਗੁਰ ਸੁਖੁ ਨ ਪਾਵਈ ਫਿਰਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਜੋਨੀ ਪਾਹਿ ॥੩॥ |
| bin sathigur sukh n paavee fir fir jonee paahi ||3|| |
| But without the True Guru, you will not find peace; you will be reincarnated over and over again. ||3|| |

| ਹਰਿ ਹਾਰੁ ਕੰਠਿ ਜਿਨੀ ਪਹਿਰਿਆ ਗੁਰ ਚਰਣੀ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਇ ॥ |
| har haar kanth jinee pehiriaa gur charanee chith laae || |
| Those who wear the Necklace of the Lord around their necks, and focus their consciousness on the Guru's Feet |

| ਤਿਨਾ ਪਿਛੈ ਰਿਧਿ ਸਿਧਿ ਫਿਰੈ ਓਨਾ ਤਿਲੁ ਨ ਤਮਾਇ ॥੪॥ |
| thinaa pishhai ridhh sidhh firai ounaa thil n thamaae ||4|| |
| -wealth and supernatural spiritual powers follow them, but they do not care for such things at all. ||4|| |
 |
| ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋ ਥੀਐ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕਰਣਾ ਜਾਇ ॥ |
| jo prabh bhaavai so thheeai avar n karanaa jaae || |
| Whatever pleases God's Will comes to pass. Nothing else can be done. |

| jis hee kee sirakaar hai this hee kaa sabh koe || |
| Everyone belongs to the One who rules the Universe. |

| ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਵਣੀ ਸਚੁ ਘਟਿ ਪਰਗਟੁ ਹੋਇ ॥ |
| guramukh kaar kamaavanee sach ghatt paragatt hoe || |
| The Gurmukh practices good deeds, and the truth is revealed in the heart. |
 |
| ਅੰਤਰਿ ਜਿਸ ਕੈ ਸਚੁ ਵਸੈ ਸਚੇ ਸਚੀ ਸੋਇ ॥ |
| anthar jis kai sach vasai sachae sachee soe || |
| True is the reputation of the true, within whom truth abides. |
 |
| ਸਚਿ ਮਿਲੇ ਸੇ ਨ ਵਿਛੁੜਹਿ ਤਿਨ ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਵਾਸਾ ਹੋਇ ॥੧॥ |
| sach milae sae n vishhurrehi thin nij ghar vaasaa hoe ||1|| |
| Those who meet the True Lord are not separated again; they come to dwell in the home of the self deep within. ||1|| |
 |
| ਮੇਰੇ ਰਾਮ ਮੈ ਹਰਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥ |
| maerae raam mai har bin avar n koe || |
| O my Lord! Without the Lord, I have no other at all. |

| ਸਤਗੁਰੁ ਸਚੁ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਨਿਰਮਲਾ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਾ ਹੋਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| sathagur sach prabh niramalaa sabadh milaavaa hoe ||1|| rehaao || |
| The True Guru leads us to meet the Immaculate True God through the Word of His Shabad. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਸਬਦਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਸੋ ਮਿਲਿ ਰਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਨਉ ਆਪੇ ਲਏ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥ |
| sabadh milai so mil rehai jis no aapae leae milaae || |
| One whom the Lord merges into Himself is merged in the Shabad, and remains so merged. |

| ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਕੋ ਨਾ ਮਿਲੈ ਫਿਰਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਇ ॥ |
| dhoojai bhaae ko naa milai fir fir aavai jaae || |
| No one merges with Him through the love of duality; over and over again, they come and go in reincarnation. |
 |
| ਸਭ ਮਹਿ ਇਕੁ ਵਰਤਦਾ ਏਕੋ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਇ ॥ |
| sabh mehi eik varathadhaa eaeko rehiaa samaae || |
| The One Lord permeates all. The One Lord is pervading everywhere. |

| ਜਿਸ ਨਉ ਆਪਿ ਦਇਆਲੁ ਹੋਇ ਸੋ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੨॥ |
| jis no aap dhaeiaal hoe so guramukh naam samaae ||2|| |
| That Gurmukh, unto whom the Lord shows His Kindness, is absorbed in the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||2|| |

| ਪੜਿ ਪੜਿ ਪੰਡਿਤ ਜੋਤਕੀ ਵਾਦ ਕਰਹਿ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ॥ |
| parr parr panddith jothakee vaadh karehi beechaar || |
| After all their reading, the Pandits, the religious scholars, and the astrologers argue and debate. |

| ਮਤਿ ਬੁਧਿ ਭਵੀ ਨ ਬੁਝਈ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਲੋਭ ਵਿਕਾਰੁ ॥ |
| math budhh bhavee n bujhee anthar lobh vikaar || |
| Their intellect and understanding are perverted; they just don't understand. They are filled with greed and corruption. |

| ਲਖ ਚਉਰਾਸੀਹ ਭਰਮਦੇ ਭ੍ਰਮਿ ਭ੍ਰਮਿ ਹੋਇ ਖੁਆਰੁ ॥ |
| lakh chouraaseeh bharamadhae bhram bhram hoe khuaar || |
| Through 8.4 million incarnations they wander lost and confused; through all their wandering and roaming, they are ruined. |
