| ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗਰੀਬ ਨਿਵਾਜ ॥ |
| paarabreham gareeb nivaaj || |
| The Supreme Lord God is the Protector of the humble. |

| ਜਾ ਕਾ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਕਛੂ ਨ ਆਵੈ ॥ |
| jaa kaa dhrisatt kashhoo n aavai || |
| Even one who has never been seen at all, |
 |
| ਤਿਸੁ ਤਤਕਾਲ ਦਹ ਦਿਸ ਪ੍ਰਗਟਾਵੈ ॥ |
| this thathakaal dheh dhis pragattaavai || |
| becomes instantly famous in the ten directions. |
 |
| ਜਾ ਕਉ ਅਪੁਨੀ ਕਰੈ ਬਖਸੀਸ ॥ |
| jaa ko apunee karai bakhasees || |
| And that one upon whom He bestows His blessings |
 |
| ਤਾ ਕਾ ਲੇਖਾ ਨ ਗਨੈ ਜਗਦੀਸ ॥ |
| thaa kaa laekhaa n ganai jagadhees || |
| the Lord of the world does not hold him to his account. |
 |
| ਜੀਉ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਸਭ ਤਿਸ ਕੀ ਰਾਸਿ ॥ |
| jeeo pindd sabh this kee raas || |
| Soul and body are all His property. |
 |
| ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਪੂਰਨ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸ ॥ |
| ghatt ghatt pooran breham pragaas || |
| Each and every heart is illuminated by the Perfect Lord God. |
 |
| ਅਪਨੀ ਬਣਤ ਆਪਿ ਬਨਾਈ ॥ |
| apanee banath aap banaaee || |
| He Himself fashioned His own handiwork. |
 |
| ਨਾਨਕ ਜੀਵੈ ਦੇਖਿ ਬਡਾਈ ॥੪॥ |
| naanak jeevai dhaekh baddaaee ||4|| |
| Nanak lives by beholding His greatness. ||4|| |
 |
| ਇਸ ਕਾ ਬਲੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਇਸੁ ਹਾਥ ॥ |
| eis kaa bal naahee eis haathh || |
| There is no power in the hands of mortal beings; |
 |
| ਕਰਨ ਕਰਾਵਨ ਸਰਬ ਕੋ ਨਾਥ ॥ |
| karan karaavan sarab ko naathh || |
| the Doer, the Cause of causes is the Lord of all. |
 |
| ਆਗਿਆਕਾਰੀ ਬਪੁਰਾ ਜੀਉ ॥ |
| aagiaakaaree bapuraa jeeo || |
| The helpless beings are subject to His Command. |
 |
| ਜੋ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋਈ ਫੁਨਿ ਥੀਉ ॥ |
| jo this bhaavai soee fun thheeo || |
| That which pleases Him, ultimately comes to pass. |
 |
| ਕਬਹੂ ਊਚ ਨੀਚ ਮਹਿ ਬਸੈ ॥ |
| kabehoo ooch neech mehi basai || |
| Sometimes, they abide in exaltation; sometimes, they are depressed. |
 |
| ਕਬਹੂ ਸੋਗ ਹਰਖ ਰੰਗਿ ਹਸੈ ॥ |
| kabehoo sog harakh rang hasai || |
| Sometimes, they are sad, and sometimes they laugh with joy and delight. |
 |
| ਕਬਹੂ ਨਿੰਦ ਚਿੰਦ ਬਿਉਹਾਰ ॥ |
| kabehoo nindh chindh biouhaar || |
| Sometimes, they are occupied with slander and anxiety. |
 |
| ਕਬਹੂ ਊਭ ਅਕਾਸ ਪਇਆਲ ॥ |
| kabehoo oobh akaas paeiaal || |
| Sometimes, they are high in the Akaashic Ethers, sometimes in the nether regions of the underworld. |
 |
| ਕਬਹੂ ਬੇਤਾ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਬੀਚਾਰ ॥ |
| kabehoo baethaa breham beechaar || |
| Sometimes, they know the contemplation of God. |
 |
| ਨਾਨਕ ਆਪਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਹਾਰ ॥੫॥ |
| naanak aap milaavanehaar ||5|| |
| O Nanak, God Himself unites them with Himself. ||5|| |

| ਕਬਹੂ ਨਿਰਤਿ ਕਰੈ ਬਹੁ ਭਾਤਿ ॥ |
| kabehoo nirath karai bahu bhaath || |
| Sometimes, they dance in various ways. |
 |
| ਕਬਹੂ ਸੋਇ ਰਹੈ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤਿ ॥ |
| kabehoo soe rehai dhin raath || |
| Sometimes, they remain asleep day and night. |
 |
| ਕਬਹੂ ਮਹਾ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਬਿਕਰਾਲ ॥ |
| kabehoo mehaa krodhh bikaraal || |
| Sometimes, they are awesome, in terrible rage. |
 |
| ਕਬਹੂੰ ਸਰਬ ਕੀ ਹੋਤ ਰਵਾਲ ॥ |
| kabehoon sarab kee hoth ravaal || |
| Sometimes, they are the dust of the feet of all. |
 |
| ਕਬਹੂ ਹੋਇ ਬਹੈ ਬਡ ਰਾਜਾ ॥ |
| kabehoo hoe behai badd raajaa || |
| Sometimes, they sit as great kings. |
 |
| ਕਬਹੁ ਭੇਖਾਰੀ ਨੀਚ ਕਾ ਸਾਜਾ ॥ |
| kabahu bhaekhaaree neech kaa saajaa || |
| Sometimes, they wear the coat of a lowly beggar. |
 |
| ਕਬਹੂ ਅਪਕੀਰਤਿ ਮਹਿ ਆਵੈ ॥ |
| kabehoo apakeerath mehi aavai || |
| Sometimes, they come to have evil reputations. |
 |
| ਕਬਹੂ ਭਲਾ ਭਲਾ ਕਹਾਵੈ ॥ |
| kabehoo bhalaa bhalaa kehaavai || |
| Sometimes, they are known as very, very good. |
 |
| ਜਿਉ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਰਾਖੈ ਤਿਵ ਹੀ ਰਹੈ ॥ |
| jio prabh raakhai thiv hee rehai || |
| As God keeps them, so they remain. |
 |
| ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਚੁ ਕਹੈ ॥੬॥ |
| gur prasaadh naanak sach kehai ||6|| |
| By Guru's Grace, O Nanak, the Truth is told. ||6|| |

| ਕਬਹੂ ਹੋਇ ਪੰਡਿਤੁ ਕਰੇ ਬਖ੍ਯ੍ਯਾਨੁ ॥ |
| kabehoo hoe panddith karae bakhyaan || |
| Sometimes, as scholars, they deliver lectures. |
 |
| ਕਬਹੂ ਮੋਨਿਧਾਰੀ ਲਾਵੈ ਧਿਆਨੁ ॥ |
| kabehoo monidhhaaree laavai dhhiaan || |
| Sometimes, they hold to silence in deep meditation. |
 |
| ਕਬਹੂ ਤਟ ਤੀਰਥ ਇਸਨਾਨ ॥ |
| kabehoo thatt theerathh eisanaan || |
| Sometimes, they take cleansing baths at places of pilgrimage. |
 |
| ਕਬਹੂ ਸਿਧ ਸਾਧਿਕ ਮੁਖਿ ਗਿਆਨ ॥ |
| kabehoo sidhh saadhhik mukh giaan || |
| Sometimes, as Siddhas or seekers, they impart spiritual wisdom. |
 |
| ਕਬਹੂ ਕੀਟ ਹਸਤਿ ਪਤੰਗ ਹੋਇ ਜੀਆ ॥ |
| kabehoo keett hasath pathang hoe jeeaa || |
| Sometimes, they becomes worms, elephants, or moths. |
 |
| ਨਾਨਾ ਰੂਪ ਜਿਉ ਸ੍ਵਾਗੀ ਦਿਖਾਵੈ ॥ |
| naanaa roop jio svaagee dhikhaavai || |
| In various costumes, like actors, they appear. |
 |
| ਜਿਉ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਵੈ ਨਚਾਵੈ ॥ |
| jio prabh bhaavai thivai nachaavai || |
| As it pleases God, they dance. |
 |
| ਜੋ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋਈ ਹੋਇ ॥ |
| jo this bhaavai soee hoe || |
| Whatever pleases Him, comes to pass. |
 |
| ਨਾਨਕ ਦੂਜਾ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥੭॥ |
| naanak dhoojaa avar n koe ||7|| |
| O Nanak, there is no other at all. ||7|| |
 |
| ਕਬਹੂ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਇਹੁ ਪਾਵੈ ॥ |
| kabehoo saadhhasangath eihu paavai || |
| Sometimes, this being attains the Company of the Holy. |
 |
| ਉਸੁ ਅਸਥਾਨ ਤੇ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ॥ |
| ous asathhaan thae bahur n aavai || |
| From that place, he does not have to come back again. |
 |
| ਅੰਤਰਿ ਹੋਇ ਗਿਆਨ ਪਰਗਾਸੁ ॥ |
| anthar hoe giaan paragaas || |
| The light of spiritual wisdom dawns within. |
 |
| ਉਸੁ ਅਸਥਾਨ ਕਾ ਨਹੀ ਬਿਨਾਸੁ ॥ |
| ous asathhaan kaa nehee binaas || |
| That place does not perish. |
 |
| ਮਨ ਤਨ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਇਕ ਰੰਗਿ ॥ |
| man than naam rathae eik rang || |
| The mind and body are imbued with the Love of the Naam, the Name of the One Lord. |
 |
| ਸਦਾ ਬਸਹਿ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ॥ |
| sadhaa basehi paarabreham kai sang || |
| He dwells forever with the Supreme Lord God. |
 |
| ਜਿਉ ਜਲ ਮਹਿ ਜਲੁ ਆਇ ਖਟਾਨਾ ॥ |
| jio jal mehi jal aae khattaanaa || |
| As water comes to blend with water, |
 |
| ਤਿਉ ਜੋਤੀ ਸੰਗਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਸਮਾਨਾ ॥ |
| thio jothee sang joth samaanaa || |
| his light blends into the Light. |
 |
| ਮਿਟਿ ਗਏ ਗਵਨ ਪਾਏ ਬਿਸ੍ਰਾਮ ॥ |
| mitt geae gavan paaeae bisraam || |
| Reincarnation is ended, and eternal peace is found. |
 |
| ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੈ ਸਦ ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ॥੮॥੧੧॥ |
| naanak prabh kai sadh kurabaan ||8||11|| |
| Nanak is forever a sacrifice to God. ||8||11|| |
