| ttoottee gaadtanehaar guopaal || |
| The Lord of the World is the Mender of the broken. |

| ਸਰਬ ਜੀਆ ਆਪੇ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲ ॥ |
| sarab jeeaa aapae prathipaal || |
| He Himself cherishes all beings. |
|
| ਸਗਲ ਕੀ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਜਿਸੁ ਮਨ ਮਾਹਿ ॥ |
| sagal kee chinthaa jis man maahi || |
| The cares of all are on His Mind; |
|
| ਤਿਸ ਤੇ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਕੋਈ ਨਾਹਿ ॥ |
| this thae birathhaa koee naahi || |
| no one is turned away from Him. |
|
| ਰੇ ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਦਾ ਹਰਿ ਜਾਪਿ ॥ |
| rae man maerae sadhaa har jaap || |
| O my mind, meditate forever on the Lord. |
|
| ਅਬਿਨਾਸੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਆਪੇ ਆਪਿ ॥ |
| abinaasee prabh aapae aap || |
| The Imperishable Lord God is Himself All-in-all. |
|
| ਆਪਨ ਕੀਆ ਕਛੂ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥ |
| aapan keeaa kashhoo n hoe || |
| By one's own actions, nothing is accomplished, |
|
| ਜੇ ਸਉ ਪ੍ਰਾਨੀ ਲੋਚੈ ਕੋਇ ॥ |
| jae so praanee lochai koe || |
| even though the mortal may wish it so, hundreds of times. |
|
| ਤਿਸੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਤੇਰੈ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਾਮ ॥ |
| this bin naahee thaerai kishh kaam || |
| Without Him, nothing is of any use to you. |
|
| ਗਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਪਿ ਏਕ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ॥੧॥ |
| gath naanak jap eaek har naam ||1|| |
| Salvation, O Nanak, is attained by chanting the Name of the One Lord. ||1|| |
|
| ਰੂਪਵੰਤੁ ਹੋਇ ਨਾਹੀ ਮੋਹੈ ॥ |
| roopavanth hoe naahee mohai || |
| One who is good-looking should not be vain; |
|
| ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਸਗਲ ਘਟ ਸੋਹੈ ॥ |
| prabh kee joth sagal ghatt sohai || |
| the Light of God is in all hearts. |
|
| ਧਨਵੰਤਾ ਹੋਇ ਕਿਆ ਕੋ ਗਰਬੈ ॥ |
| dhhanavanthaa hoe kiaa ko garabai || |
| Why should anyone be proud of being rich? |
|
| ਜਾ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਤਿਸ ਕਾ ਦੀਆ ਦਰਬੈ ॥ |
| jaa sabh kishh this kaa dheeaa dharabai || |
| All riches are His gifts. |
|
| ਅਤਿ ਸੂਰਾ ਜੇ ਕੋਊ ਕਹਾਵੈ ॥ |
| ath sooraa jae kooo kehaavai || |
| One may call himself a great hero, |
|
| ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੀ ਕਲਾ ਬਿਨਾ ਕਹ ਧਾਵੈ ॥ |
| prabh kee kalaa binaa keh dhhaavai || |
| but without God's Power, what can anyone do? |
|
| ਜੇ ਕੋ ਹੋਇ ਬਹੈ ਦਾਤਾਰੁ ॥ |
| jae ko hoe behai dhaathaar || |
| One who brags about giving to charities |
|
| ਤਿਸੁ ਦੇਨਹਾਰੁ ਜਾਨੈ ਗਾਵਾਰੁ ॥ |
| this dhaenehaar jaanai gaavaar || |
| the Great Giver shall judge him to be a fool. |
|
| ਜਿਸੁ ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਤੂਟੈ ਹਉ ਰੋਗੁ ॥ |
| jis gur prasaadh thoottai ho rog || |
| One who, by Guru's Grace, is cured of the disease of ego |
|
| ਨਾਨਕ ਸੋ ਜਨੁ ਸਦਾ ਅਰੋਗੁ ॥੨॥ |
| naanak so jan sadhaa arog ||2|| |
| - O Nanak, that person is forever healthy. ||2|| |
|
| ਜਿਉ ਮੰਦਰ ਕਉ ਥਾਮੈ ਥੰਮਨੁ ॥ |
| jio mandhar ko thhaamai thhanman || |
| As a palace is supported by its pillars, |
|
| ਤਿਉ ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਮਨਹਿ ਅਸਥੰਮਨੁ ॥ |
| thio gur kaa sabadh manehi asathhanman || |
| so does the Guru's Word support the mind. |
|
| ਜਿਉ ਪਾਖਾਣੁ ਨਾਵ ਚੜਿ ਤਰੈ ॥ |
| jio paakhaan naav charr tharai || |
| As a stone placed in a boat can cross over the river, |
|
| ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਗੁਰ ਚਰਣ ਲਗਤੁ ਨਿਸਤਰੈ ॥ |
| praanee gur charan lagath nisatharai || |
| so is the mortal saved, grasping hold of the Guru's Feet. |
|
| ਜਿਉ ਅੰਧਕਾਰ ਦੀਪਕ ਪਰਗਾਸੁ ॥ |
| jio andhhakaar dheepak paragaas || |
| As the darkness is illuminated by the lamp, |
|
| ਗੁਰ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਦੇਖਿ ਮਨਿ ਹੋਇ ਬਿਗਾਸੁ ॥ |
| gur dharasan dhaekh man hoe bigaas || |
| so does the mind blossom forth, beholding the Blessed Vision of the Guru's Darshan. |

| ਜਿਉ ਮਹਾ ਉਦਿਆਨ ਮਹਿ ਮਾਰਗੁ ਪਾਵੈ ॥ਤਿਉ ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਗਟਾਵੈ ॥ |
| jio mehaa oudhiaan mehi maarag paavai || thio saadhhoo sang mil joth pragattaavai || |
| The path is found through the great wilderness by joining the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, and one's light shines forth. |
|
| ਤਿਨ ਸੰਤਨ ਕੀ ਬਾਛਉ ਧੂਰਿ ॥ |
| thin santhan kee baashho dhhoor || |
| I seek the dust of the feet of those Saints; |
|
| ਨਾਨਕ ਕੀ ਹਰਿ ਲੋਚਾ ਪੂਰਿ ॥੩॥ |
| naanak kee har lochaa poor ||3|| |
| O Lord, fulfill Nanak's longing! ||3|| |
|
| ਪੁਰਬ ਲਿਖੇ ਕਾ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਪਾਈਐ ॥ |
| purab likhae kaa likhiaa paaeeai || |
| You shall obtain your pre-ordained destiny. |
|
| ਦੂਖ ਸੂਖ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਦੇਵਨਹਾਰੁ ॥ |
| dhookh sookh prabh dhaevanehaar || |
| God is the Giver of pain and pleasure. |
|
| ਅਵਰ ਤਿਆਗਿ ਤੂ ਤਿਸਹਿ ਚਿਤਾਰੁ ॥ |
| avar thiaag thoo thisehi chithaar || |
| Abandon others, and think of Him alone. |
|
| ਜੋ ਕਛੁ ਕਰੈ ਸੋਈ ਸੁਖੁ ਮਾਨੁ ॥ |
| jo kashh karai soee sukh maan || |
| Whatever He does - take comfort in that. |
|
| ਭੂਲਾ ਕਾਹੇ ਫਿਰਹਿ ਅਜਾਨ ॥ |
| bhoolaa kaahae firehi ajaan || |
| Why do you wander around, you ignorant fool? |
|
| ਕਉਨ ਬਸਤੁ ਆਈ ਤੇਰੈ ਸੰਗ ॥ |
| koun basath aaee thaerai sang || |
| What things did you bring with you? |
|
| ਲਪਟਿ ਰਹਿਓ ਰਸਿ ਲੋਭੀ ਪਤੰਗ ॥ |
| lapatt rehiou ras lobhee pathang || |
| You cling to worldly pleasures like a greedy moth. |
|
| ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਿ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਮਾਹਿ ॥ |
| raam naam jap hiradhae maahi || |
| Dwell upon the Lord's Name in your heart. |
|
| ਨਾਨਕ ਪਤਿ ਸੇਤੀ ਘਰਿ ਜਾਹਿ ॥੪॥ |
| naanak path saethee ghar jaahi ||4|| |
| O Nanak, thus you shall return to your home with honor. ||4|| |
|
| ਜਿਸੁ ਵਖਰ ਕਉ ਲੈਨਿ ਤੂ ਆਇਆ ॥ |
| jis vakhar ko lain thoo aaeiaa || |
| This merchandise, which you have come to obtai |
|
| ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਸੰਤਨ ਘਰਿ ਪਾਇਆ ॥ |
| raam naam santhan ghar paaeiaa || |
| n - the Lord's Name is obtained in the home of the Saints. |
|
| ਤਜਿ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ਲੇਹੁ ਮਨ ਮੋਲਿ ॥ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਮਹਿ ਤੋਲਿ ॥ |
| thaj abhimaan laehu man mol || raam naam hiradhae mehi thol || |
| Renounce your egotistical pride, and with your mind, purchase the Lord's Name - measure it out within your heart. |
|
| ਲਾਦਿ ਖੇਪ ਸੰਤਹ ਸੰਗਿ ਚਾਲੁ ॥ |
| laadh khaep santheh sang chaal || |
| Load up this merchandise, and set out with the Saints. |
|
| ਅਵਰ ਤਿਆਗਿ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਜੰਜਾਲ ॥ |
| avar thiaag bikhiaa janjaal || |
| Give up other corrupt entanglements. |
|
| ਧੰਨਿ ਧੰਨਿ ਕਹੈ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਇ ॥ |
| dhhann dhhann kehai sabh koe || |
| "Blessed, blessed", everyone will call you, |
|
| ਮੁਖ ਊਜਲ ਹਰਿ ਦਰਗਹ ਸੋਇ ॥ |
| mukh oojal har dharageh soe || |
| and your face shall be radiant in the Court of the Lord. |
|
| ਇਹੁ ਵਾਪਾਰੁ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਵਾਪਾਰੈ ॥ |
| eihu vaapaar viralaa vaapaarai || |
| In this trade, only a few are trading. |
|
| ਨਾਨਕ ਤਾ ਕੈ ਸਦ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੈ ॥੫॥ |
| naanak thaa kai sadh balihaarai ||5|| |
| Nanak is forever a sacrifice to them. ||5|| |
|
| ਚਰਨ ਸਾਧ ਕੇ ਧੋਇ ਧੋਇ ਪੀਉ ॥ |
| charan saadhh kae dhhoe dhhoe peeo || |
| Wash the feet of the Holy, and drink in this water. |
|
| ਅਰਪਿ ਸਾਧ ਕਉ ਅਪਨਾ ਜੀਉ ॥ |
| arap saadhh ko apanaa jeeo || |
| Dedicate your soul to the Holy. |
|
| ਸਾਧ ਕੀ ਧੂਰਿ ਕਰਹੁ ਇਸਨਾਨੁ ॥ |
| saadhh kee dhhoor karahu eisanaan || |
| Take your cleansing bath in the dust of the feet of the Holy. |
|
