| The essence of all religion is the Lord's Name alone. |

| gobindh bhagath kai man bisraam || |
| It abides in the minds of the devotees of God. |

| ਕੋਟਿ ਅਪ੍ਰਾਧ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਮਿਟੈ ॥ |
| kott apraadhh saadhhasang mittai || |
| Millions of sins are erased, in the Company of the Holy. |
|
| ਸੰਤ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਤੇ ਜਮ ਤੇ ਛੁਟੈ ॥ |
| santh kirapaa thae jam thae shhuttai || |
| By the Grace of the Saint, one escapes the Messenger of Death. |
|
| ਜਾ ਕੈ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਕਰਮ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਪਾਏ ॥ |
| jaa kai masathak karam prabh paaeae || |
| Those, who have such pre-ordained destiny on their foreheads, |

| ਸਾਧ ਸਰਣਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਤੇ ਆਏ ॥੭॥ |

| O Nanak, enter the Sanctuary of the Saints. ||7|| |

| ਜਿਸੁ ਮਨਿ ਬਸੈ ਸੁਨੈ ਲਾਇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ॥ |
| jis man basai sunai laae preeth || |
| One, within whose mind it abides, and who listens to it with love |

| ਤਿਸੁ ਜਨ ਆਵੈ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਚੀਤਿ ॥ |
| this jan aavai har prabh cheeth || |
| that humble person consciously remembers the Lord God. |
|
| ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਤਾ ਕਾ ਦੂਖੁ ਨਿਵਾਰੈ ॥ |
| janam maran thaa kaa dhookh nivaarai || |
| The pains of birth and death are removed. |
|
| ਦੁਲਭ ਦੇਹ ਤਤਕਾਲ ਉਧਾਰੈ ॥ |
| dhulabh dhaeh thathakaal oudhhaarai || |
| The human body, so difficult to obtain, is instantly redeemed. |
|
| ਨਿਰਮਲ ਸੋਭਾ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਤਾ ਕੀ ਬਾਨੀ ॥ |
| niramal sobhaa anmrith thaa kee baanee || |
| Spotlessly pure is his reputation, and ambrosial is his speech. |

| ਏਕੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਨ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਮਾਨੀ ॥ |
| eaek naam man maahi samaanee || |
| The One Name permeates his mind. |
|
| ਦੂਖ ਰੋਗ ਬਿਨਸੇ ਭੈ ਭਰਮ ॥ |
| dhookh rog binasae bhai bharam || |
| Sorrow, sickness, fear and doubt depart. |
|
| ਸਾਧ ਨਾਮ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਤਾ ਕੇ ਕਰਮ ॥ |
| saadhh naam niramal thaa kae karam || |
| He is called a Holy person; his actions are immaculate and pure. |
|
| ਸਭ ਤੇ ਊਚ ਤਾ ਕੀ ਸੋਭਾ ਬਨੀ ॥ |
| sabh thae ooch thaa kee sobhaa banee || |
| His glory becomes the highest of all. |
|
| ਨਾਨਕ ਇਹ ਗੁਣਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸੁਖਮਨੀ ॥੮॥੨੪॥ |
| naanak eih gun naam sukhamanee ||8||24|| |
| O Nanak, by these Glorious Virtues, this is named Sukhmani, Peace of mind. ||8||24|| |

| The Creator Lord and Master is pervading the water, the land, and the sky. |

| ਅਨਿਕ ਭਾਂਤਿ ਹੋਇ ਪਸਰਿਆ ਨਾਨਕ ਏਕੰਕਾਰੁ ॥੧॥ |

| The first day of the lunar cycle: Bow in humility and meditate on the One, the Universal Creator Lord God. |

| Praise God, the Lord of the Universe, the Sustainer of the World; seek the Sanctuary of the Lord, our King. |

| ਤਾ ਕੀ ਆਸ ਕਲਿਆਣ ਸੁਖ ਜਾ ਤੇ ਸਭੁ ਕਛੁ ਹੋਇ ॥ |
| thaa kee aas kaliaan sukh jaa thae sabh kashh hoe || |
| Place your hopes in Him, for salvation and peace; all things come from Him. |

| ਚਾਰਿ ਕੁੰਟ ਦਹ ਦਿਸਿ ਭ੍ਰਮਿਓ ਤਿਸੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥ |
| chaar kuntt dheh dhis bhramiou this bin avar n koe || |
| I wandered around the four corners of the world and in the ten directions, but I saw nothing except Him. |

| ਬੇਦ ਪੁਰਾਨ ਸਿਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਸੁਨੇ ਬਹੁ ਬਿਧਿ ਕਰਉ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ॥ |
| baedh puraan simrith sunae bahu bidhh karo beechaar || |
| I listened to the Vedas, the Puraanas and the Simritees, and I pondered over them in so many ways. |

| ਪਤਿਤ ਉਧਾਰਨ ਭੈ ਹਰਨ ਸੁਖ ਸਾਗਰ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰ ॥ |
| pathith oudhhaaran bhai haran sukh saagar nirankaar || |
| The Saving Grace of sinners, the Destroyer of fear, the Ocean of peace, the Formless Lord. |

| ਦਾਤਾ ਭੁਗਤਾ ਦੇਨਹਾਰੁ ਤਿਸੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥ |
| dhaathaa bhugathaa dhaenehaar this bin avar n jaae || |
| The Great Giver, the Enjoyer, the Bestower - there is no place at all without Him. |

| ਜੋ ਚਾਹਹਿ ਸੋਈ ਮਿਲੈ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਇ ॥੧॥ |
| jo chaahehi soee milai naanak har gun gaae ||1|| |
| You shall obtain all that you desire, O Nanak, singing the Glorious Praises of the Lord. ||1|| |

| Join the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, and vibrate, meditate on Him, O my friend. ||1||Pause|| |

| karo bandhanaa anik vaar saran paro har raae || |
| Bow in humility to the Lord, over and over again, and enter the Sanctuary of the Lord, our King. |

| ਭ੍ਰਮੁ ਕਟੀਐ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਦੁਤੀਆ ਭਾਉ ਮਿਟਾਇ ॥੨॥ |
| bhram katteeai naanak saadhhasang dhutheeaa bhaao mittaae ||2|| |
| Doubt is eradicated, O Nanak, in the Company of the Holy, and the love of duality is eliminated. ||2|| |

| The second day of the lunar cycle: Get rid of your evil-mindedness, and serve the Guru continually. |

| ਰਾਮ ਰਤਨੁ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਬਸੈ ਤਜਿ ਕਾਮੁ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਲੋਭੁ ਮੀਤ ॥ |
| raam rathan man than basai thaj kaam krodhh lobh meeth || |
| The jewel of the Lord's Name shall come to dwell in your mind and body, when you renounce sexual desire, anger and greed, O my friend. |
|
| ਮਰਣੁ ਮਿਟੈ ਜੀਵਨੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਬਿਨਸਹਿ ਸਗਲ ਕਲੇਸ ॥ |
| maran mittai jeevan milai binasehi sagal kalaes || |
| Conquer death and obtain eternal life; all your troubles will depart. |
|
| ਲਾਭੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਤੋਟਾ ਹਿਰੈ ਹਰਿ ਦਰਗਹ ਪਤਿਵੰਤ ॥ |
| laabh milai thottaa hirai har dharageh pathivanth || |
| You shall earn profit and suffer no loss, and in the Court of the Lord you shall be honored. |

| ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਧਨੁ ਸੰਚਵੈ ਸਾਚ ਸਾਹ ਭਗਵੰਤ ॥ |
| raam naam dhhan sanchavai saach saah bhagavanth || |
| Those who gather in the riches of the Lord's Name are truly wealthy, and very blessed. |

| ਊਠਤ ਬੈਠਤ ਹਰਿ ਭਜਹੁ ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗਿ ਪਰੀਤਿ ॥ |
| oothath baithath har bhajahu saadhhoo sang pareeth || |
| So, when standing up and sitting down, vibrate upon the Lord, and cherish the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy. |

| ਨਾਨਕ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਛੁਟਿ ਗਈ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਬਸੇ ਚੀਤਿ ॥੨॥ |
| naanak dhuramath shhutt gee paarabreham basae cheeth ||2|| |
| O Nanak, evil-mindedness is eradicated, when the Supreme Lord God comes to dwell in the mind. ||2|| |

| The world is in the grip of the three qualities; only a few attain the fourth state of absorption. |

| ਨਾਨਕ ਸੰਤ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਭਏ ਜਿਨ ਮਨਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਸੋਇ ॥੩॥ |
| naanak santh niramal bheae jin man vasiaa soe ||3|| |
| O Nanak, the Saints are pure and immaculate; the Lord abides within their minds. ||3|| |

| The third day of the lunar cycle: Those who are bound by the three qualities gather poison as their fruit; now they are good, and now they are bad. |

| ਨਰਕ ਸੁਰਗ ਭ੍ਰਮਤਉ ਘਣੋ ਸਦਾ ਸੰਘਾਰੈ ਮੀਚੁ ॥ |
| narak surag bhramatho ghano sadhaa sanghaarai meech || |
| They wander endlessly in heaven and hell, until death annihilates them. |
|
| ਹਰਖ ਸੋਗ ਸਹਸਾ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ਹਉ ਹਉ ਕਰਤ ਬਿਹਾਇ ॥ |
| harakh sog sehasaa sansaar ho ho karath bihaae || |
| In pleasure and pain and worldly cynicism, they pass their lives acting in ego. |
