| Sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord twenty-four hours a day; renounce other entanglements. |

| ਸਭ ਮਹਿ ਊਚ ਬਿਸੇਖ ਗਿਆਨੁ ॥ |

| the most lofty and sublime spiritual wisdom |

| ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਭਜਨੁ ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਸੰਗਿ ॥ |

| these are obtained by meditating, vibrating upon the Lord, Har, Har, in the Company of the Perfect Guru. |

| People do not chant the Lord's Name; instead, they practice evil. |

| ਪਰ ਤ੍ਰਿਅ ਰਮਹਿ ਬਕਹਿ ਸਾਧ ਨਿੰਦ ॥ |
| par thria ramehi bakehi saadhh nindh || |
| They commit adultery, slander the Saints, |
|
| ਕਰਨ ਨ ਸੁਨਹੀ ਹਰਿ ਜਸੁ ਬਿੰਦ ॥ |
| karan n sunehee har jas bindh || |
| and do not listen to even a tiny bit of the Lord's Praise. |
|
| ਹਿਰਹਿ ਪਰ ਦਰਬੁ ਉਦਰ ਕੈ ਤਾਈ ॥ |
| hirehi par dharab oudhar kai thaaee || |
| They steal others' wealth for the sake of their own bellies, |
|
| ਅਗਨਿ ਨ ਨਿਵਰੈ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਨ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥ |
| agan n nivarai thrisanaa n bujhaaee || |
| but the fire is not extinguished, and their thirst is not quenched. |
|
| ਹਰਿ ਸੇਵਾ ਬਿਨੁ ਏਹ ਫਲ ਲਾਗੇ ॥ |
| har saevaa bin eaeh fal laagae || |
| Without serving the Lord, these are their rewards. |
|
| ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਬਿਸਰਤ ਮਰਿ ਜਮਹਿ ਅਭਾਗੇ ॥੯॥ |

| With your ears, hear the Praises of the Lord of the World; |

| with your eyes, behold the kind, Holy Saints. |

| ਰਸਨਾ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਵੈ ਬੇਅੰਤ ॥ |
| rasanaa gun gaavai baeanth || |
| With your tongue, sing the Glorious Praises of the Infinite Lord. |
|
| ਹਸਤ ਚਰਨ ਸੰਤ ਟਹਲ ਕਮਾਈਐ ॥ |
| hasath charan santh ttehal kamaaeeai || |
| With your hands and feet, work for the Saints. |
|
| ਨਾਨਕ ਇਹੁ ਸੰਜਮੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਪਾਈਐ ॥੧੦॥ |

| Subdue the desires of your sexual organs, and listen to the Lord's Name. |

| Let your mind be content, and be kind to all beings. |
|
| ਇਨ ਬਿਧਿ ਬਰਤੁ ਸੰਪੂਰਨ ਭਇਆ ॥ |

| In this way, your fast will be successful. |

| ਧਾਵਤ ਮਨੁ ਰਾਖੈ ਇਕ ਠਾਇ ॥ |
| dhhaavath man raakhai eik thaae || |
| Keep your wandering mind restrained in one place. |
|
| ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਸੁਧੁ ਜਪਤ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਇ ॥ |

| Your mind and body shall become pure, chanting the Lord's Name. |

| ਸਭ ਮਹਿ ਪੂਰਿ ਰਹੇ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ॥ |

| The Supreme Lord God is pervading amongst all. |

| ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਕਰਿ ਅਟਲ ਏਹੁ ਧਰਮ ॥੧੧॥ |
