| ਮੰਗਣਾ ਤ ਸਚੁ ਇਕੁ ਜਿਸੁ ਤੁਸਿ ਦੇਵੈ ਆਪਿ ॥ |
| manganaa th sach eik jis thus dhaevai aap || |
| If one begs, then he should beg for the Name of the True One, which is given only by His Pleasure. |

| ਜਿਤੁ ਖਾਧੈ ਮਨੁ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤੀਐ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦਾਤਿ ॥੨॥ |
| jith khaadhhai man thripatheeai naanak saahib dhaath ||2|| |
| Eating this gift from the Lord and Master, O Nanak, the mind is satisfied. ||2|| |

| ਲਾਹਾ ਜਗ ਮਹਿ ਸੇ ਖਟਹਿ ਜਿਨ ਹਰਿ ਧਨੁ ਰਾਸਿ ॥ |
| laahaa jag mehi sae khattehi jin har dhhan raas || |
| They alone earn profit in this world, who have the wealth of the Lord's Name. |

| ਦੁਤੀਆ ਭਾਉ ਨ ਜਾਣਨੀ ਸਚੇ ਦੀ ਆਸ ॥ |
| dhutheeaa bhaao n jaananee sachae dhee aas || |
| They do not know the love of duality; they place their hopes in the True Lord. |
|
| ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ਏਕੁ ਸਰੇਵਿਆ ਹੋਰੁ ਸਭ ਵਿਣਾਸੁ ॥ |
| nihachal eaek saraeviaa hor sabh vinaas || |
| They serve the One Eternal Lord, and give up everything else. |

| ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਜਿਸੁ ਵਿਸਰੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਸਾਸੁ ॥ |
| paarabreham jis visarai this birathhaa saas || |
| One who forgets the Supreme Lord God - useless is his breath. |

| ਕੰਠਿ ਲਾਇ ਜਨ ਰਖਿਆ ਨਾਨਕ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਸੁ ॥੧੫॥ |
| kanth laae jan rakhiaa naanak bal jaas ||15|| |
| God draws His humble servant close in His loving embrace and protects him - Nanak is a sacrifice to Him. ||15|| |

| ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮਿ ਫੁਰਮਾਇਆ ਮੀਹੁ ਵੁਠਾ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥ |
| paarabreham furamaaeiaa meehu vuthaa sehaj subhaae || |
| The Supreme Lord God gave the Order, and the rain automatically began to fall. |
|
| ਅੰਨੁ ਧੰਨੁ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਉਪਜਿਆ ਪ੍ਰਿਥਮੀ ਰਜੀ ਤਿਪਤਿ ਅਘਾਇ ॥ |
| ann dhhann bahuth oupajiaa prithhamee rajee thipath aghaae || |
| Grain and wealth were produced in abundance; the earth was totally satisfied and satiated. |

| ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਗੁਣ ਉਚਰੈ ਦੁਖੁ ਦਾਲਦੁ ਗਇਆ ਬਿਲਾਇ ॥ |
| sadhaa sadhaa gun oucharai dhukh dhaaladh gaeiaa bilaae || |
| Forever and ever, chant the Glorious Praises of the Lord, and pain and poverty shall run away. |
|
| ਪੂਰਬਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਪਾਇਆ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਤਿਸੈ ਰਜਾਇ ॥ |
| poorab likhiaa paaeiaa miliaa thisai rajaae || |
| People obtain that which they are pre-ordained to receive, according to the Will of the Lord. |

| ਪਰਮੇਸਰਿ ਜੀਵਾਲਿਆ ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਸੈ ਧਿਆਇ ॥੧॥ |
| paramaesar jeevaaliaa naanak thisai dhhiaae ||1|| |
| The Transcendent Lord keeps you alive; O Nanak, meditate on Him. ||1|| |

| ਜੀਵਨ ਪਦੁ ਨਿਰਬਾਣੁ ਇਕੋ ਸਿਮਰੀਐ ॥ |
| jeevan padh nirabaan eiko simareeai || |
| To obtain the state of life of Nirvaanaa, meditate in remembrance on the One Lord. |

| ਦੂਜੀ ਨਾਹੀ ਜਾਇ ਕਿਨਿ ਬਿਧਿ ਧੀਰੀਐ ॥ |
| dhoojee naahee jaae kin bidhh dhheereeai || |
| There is no other place; how else can we be comforted? |
|
| ਡਿਠਾ ਸਭੁ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ਸੁਖੁ ਨ ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨੁ ॥ |
| ddithaa sabh sansaar sukh n naam bin || |
| I have seen the whole world - without the Lord's Name, there is no peace at all. |

| ਤਨੁ ਧਨੁ ਹੋਸੀ ਛਾਰੁ ਜਾਣੈ ਕੋਇ ਜਨੁ ॥ |
| than dhhan hosee shhaar jaanai koe jan || |
| Body and wealth shall return to dust - hardly anyone realizes this. |

| ਰੰਗ ਰੂਪ ਰਸ ਬਾਦਿ ਕਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਪਰਾਣੀਆ ॥ |
| rang roop ras baadh k karehi paraaneeaa || |
| Pleasure, beauty and delicious tastes are useless; what are you doing, O mortal? |
|
| ਜਿਸੁ ਭੁਲਾਏ ਆਪਿ ਤਿਸੁ ਕਲ ਨਹੀ ਜਾਣੀਆ ॥ |
| jis bhulaaeae aap this kal nehee jaaneeaa || |
| One whom the Lord Himself misleads, does not understand His awesome power. |
|
| ਰੰਗਿ ਰਤੇ ਨਿਰਬਾਣੁ ਸਚਾ ਗਾਵਹੀ ॥ |
| rang rathae nirabaan sachaa gaavehee || |
| Those who are imbued with the Love of the Lord attain Nirvaanaa, singing the Praises of the True One. |

| ਨਾਨਕ ਸਰਣਿ ਦੁਆਰਿ ਜੇ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵਹੀ ॥੨॥ |
| naanak saran dhuaar jae thudhh bhaavehee ||2|| |
| Nanak: those who are pleasing to Your Will, O Lord, seek Sanctuary at Your Door. ||2|| |

| Those who are attached to the hem of the Lord's robe, do not suffer birth and death. |

| ਜੀਵਤ ਸੇ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ਹੋਏ ਹਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਨਿ ਜਾਗੇ ॥ |
| jeevath sae paravaan hoeae har keerathan jaagae || |
| Those who remain awake to the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises - their lives are approved. |

| ਸਾਧਸੰਗੁ ਜਿਨ ਪਾਇਆ ਸੇਈ ਵਡਭਾਗੇ ॥ |
| saadhhasang jin paaeiaa saeee vaddabhaagae || |
| Those who attain the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, are very fortunate. |
|
| ਨਾਇ ਵਿਸਰਿਐ ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਜੀਵਣਾ ਤੂਟੇ ਕਚ ਧਾਗੇ ॥ |
| naae visariai dhhrig jeevanaa thoottae kach dhhaagae || |
| But those who forget the Name - their lives are cursed, and broken like thin strands of thread. |

| ਨਾਨਕ ਧੂੜਿ ਪੁਨੀਤ ਸਾਧ ਲਖ ਕੋਟਿ ਪਿਰਾਗੇ ॥੧੬॥ |
| naanak dhhoorr puneeth saadhh lakh kott piraagae ||16|| |
| O Nanak, the dust of the feet of the Holy is more sacred than hundreds of thousands, even millions of cleansing baths at sacred shrines. ||16|| |

| dhharan suvannee kharr rathan jarraavee har praem purakh man vuthaa || |
| Like the beautiful earth, adorned with jewels of grass - such is the mind, within which the Love of the Lord abides. |

| ਸਭੇ ਕਾਜ ਸੁਹੇਲੜੇ ਥੀਏ ਗੁਰੁ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਤੁਠਾ ॥੧॥ |
| sabhae kaaj suhaelarrae thheeeae gur naanak sathigur thuthaa ||1|| |
| All one's affairs are easily resolved, O Nanak, when the Guru, the True Guru, is pleased. ||1|| |

| firadhee firadhee dheh dhisaa jal parabath banaraae || |
| Roaming and wandering in the ten directions, over water, mountains and forests |
|
| ਜਿਥੈ ਡਿਠਾ ਮਿਰਤਕੋ ਇਲ ਬਹਿਠੀ ਆਇ ॥੨॥ |
| jithhai ddithaa mirathako eil behithee aae ||2|| |
| - wherever the vulture sees a dead body, he flies down and lands. ||2|| |

| ਜਿਸੁ ਸਰਬ ਸੁਖਾ ਫਲ ਲੋੜੀਅਹਿ ਸੋ ਸਚੁ ਕਮਾਵਉ ॥ |
| jis sarab sukhaa fal lorreeahi so sach kamaavo || |
| One who longs for all comforts and rewards should practice Truth. |
|
| ਨੇੜੈ ਦੇਖਉ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਇਕੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਵਉ ॥ |
| naerrai dhaekho paarabreham eik naam dhhiaavo || |
| Behold the Supreme Lord God near you, and meditate on the Naam, the Name of the One Lord. |

| ਹੋਇ ਸਗਲ ਕੀ ਰੇਣੁਕਾ ਹਰਿ ਸੰਗਿ ਸਮਾਵਉ ॥ |
| hoe sagal kee raenukaa har sang samaavo || |
| Become the dust of all men's feet, and so merge with the Lord. |
|
| ਦੂਖੁ ਨ ਦੇਈ ਕਿਸੈ ਜੀਅ ਪਤਿ ਸਿਉ ਘਰਿ ਜਾਵਉ ॥ |
| dhookh n dhaeee kisai jeea path sio ghar jaavo || |
| Do not cause any being to suffer, and you shall go to your true home with honor. |
|
| ਪਤਿਤ ਪੁਨੀਤ ਕਰਤਾ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਸੁਣਾਵਉ ॥੧੭॥ |
| pathith puneeth karathaa purakh naanak sunaavo ||17|| |
| Nanak speaks of the Purifier of sinners, the Creator, the Primal Being. ||17|| |

| I have made the One Lord my Friend; He is All-powerful to do everything. |

| ਜੀਉ ਹਮਾਰਾ ਖੰਨੀਐ ਹਰਿ ਮਨ ਤਨ ਸੰਦੜੀ ਵਥੁ ॥੧॥ |
| jeeo hamaaraa khanneeai har man than sandharree vathh ||1|| |
| My soul is a sacrifice to Him; the Lord is the treasure of my mind and body. ||1|| |

| Take my hand, O my Beloved; I shall never forsake You. |

| ਹਰਿ ਛੋਡਨਿ ਸੇ ਦੁਰਜਨਾ ਪੜਹਿ ਦੋਜਕ ਕੈ ਸੂਲਿ ॥੨॥ |
| har shhoddan sae dhurajanaa parrehi dhojak kai sool ||2|| |
| Those who forsake the Lord, are the most evil people; they shall fall into the horrible pit of hell. ||2|| |

| All treasures are in His Home; whatever the Lord does, comes to pass. |
