rae jan man maadhho sio laaeeai || |
O humble people, link your mind to the Lord. |

ਚਤੁਰਾਈ ਨ ਚਤੁਰਭੁਜੁ ਪਾਈਐ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
chathuraaee n chathurabhuj paaeeai || rehaao || |
Through cleverness, the four-armed Lord is not obtained. ||Pause|| |

ਪਰਹਰੁ ਲੋਭੁ ਅਰੁ ਲੋਕਾਚਾਰੁ ॥ |
parehar lobh ar lokaachaar || |
Set aside your greed and worldly ways. |
|
ਪਰਹਰੁ ਕਾਮੁ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੁ ॥੨॥ |
parehar kaam krodhh ahankaar ||2|| |
Set aside sexual desire, anger and egotism. ||2|| |
|
ਕਰਮ ਕਰਤ ਬਧੇ ਅਹੰਮੇਵ ॥ |
karam karath badhhae ahanmaev || |
Ritual practices bind people in egotism; |
|
ਮਿਲਿ ਪਾਥਰ ਕੀ ਕਰਹੀ ਸੇਵ ॥੩॥ |
mil paathhar kee karehee saev ||3|| |
meeting together, they worship stones. ||3|| |
|
ਕਹੁ ਕਬੀਰ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਪਾਇਆ ॥ |
kahu kabeer bhagath kar paaeiaa || |
Says Kabeer, He is obtained only by devotional worship. |

ਭੋਲੇ ਭਾਇ ਮਿਲੇ ਰਘੁਰਾਇਆ ॥੪॥੬॥ |
bholae bhaae milae raghuraaeiaa ||4||6|| |
Through innocent love, the Lord is met. ||4||6|| |

ਗਰਭ ਵਾਸ ਮਹਿ ਕੁਲੁ ਨਹੀ ਜਾਤੀ ॥ |
garabh vaas mehi kul nehee jaathee || |
In the dwelling of the womb, there is no ancestry or social status. |

ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਬਿੰਦੁ ਤੇ ਸਭ ਉਤਪਾਤੀ ॥੧॥ |
breham bindh thae sabh outhapaathee ||1|| |
All have originated from the Seed of God. ||1|| |

ਕਹੁ ਰੇ ਪੰਡਿਤ ਬਾਮਨ ਕਬ ਕੇ ਹੋਏ ॥ |
kahu rae panddith baaman kab kae hoeae || |
Tell me, O Pandit, O religious scholar: since when have you been a Brahmin? |

ਬਾਮਨ ਕਹਿ ਕਹਿ ਜਨਮੁ ਮਤ ਖੋਏ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
baaman kehi kehi janam math khoeae ||1|| rehaao || |
Don't waste your life by continually claiming to be a Brahmin. ||1||Pause|| |

ਜੌ ਤੂੰ ਬ੍ਰਾਹਮਣੁ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਣੀ ਜਾਇਆ ॥ |
ja thoon braahaman brehamanee jaaeiaa || |
If you are indeed a Brahmin, born of a Brahmin mother, |

ਤਉ ਆਨ ਬਾਟ ਕਾਹੇ ਨਹੀ ਆਇਆ ॥੨॥ |
tho aan baatt kaahae nehee aaeiaa ||2|| |
then why didn't you come by some other way? ||2|| |
|
ਤੁਮ ਕਤ ਬ੍ਰਾਹਮਣ ਹਮ ਕਤ ਸੂਦ ॥ |
thum kath braahaman ham kath soodh || |
How is it that you are a Brahmin, and I am of a low social status? |
|
ਹਮ ਕਤ ਲੋਹੂ ਤੁਮ ਕਤ ਦੂਧ ॥੩॥ |
ham kath lohoo thum kath dhoodhh ||3|| |
How is it that I am formed of blood, and you are made of milk? ||3|| |

ਕਹੁ ਕਬੀਰ ਜੋ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਬੀਚਾਰੈ ॥ |
kahu kabeer jo breham beechaarai || |
Says Kabeer, one who contemplates God, |

ਅੰਧਕਾਰ ਸੁਖਿ ਕਬਹਿ ਨ ਸੋਈ ਹੈ ॥ |
andhhakaar sukh kabehi n soee hai || |
In the darkness, no one can sleep in peace. |

ਰਾਜਾ ਰੰਕੁ ਦੋਊ ਮਿਲਿ ਰੋਈ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ |
raajaa rank dhooo mil roee hai ||1|| |
The king and the pauper both weep and cry. ||1|| |
|
ਜਉ ਪੈ ਰਸਨਾ ਰਾਮੁ ਨ ਕਹਿਬੋ ॥ |
jo pai rasanaa raam n kehibo || |
As long as the tongue does not chant the Lord's Name, |
|
ਉਪਜਤ ਬਿਨਸਤ ਰੋਵਤ ਰਹਿਬੋ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
oupajath binasath rovath rehibo ||1|| rehaao || |
the person continues coming and going in reincarnation, crying out in pain. ||1||Pause|| |

ਜਸ ਦੇਖੀਐ ਤਰਵਰ ਕੀ ਛਾਇਆ ॥ |
jas dhaekheeai tharavar kee shhaaeiaa || |
It is like the shadow of a tree; |
|
ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਗਏ ਕਹੁ ਕਾ ਕੀ ਮਾਇਆ ॥੨॥ |
praan geae kahu kaa kee maaeiaa ||2|| |
when the breath of life passes out of the mortal being, tell me, what becomes of his wealth? ||2|| |

ਜਸ ਜੰਤੀ ਮਹਿ ਜੀਉ ਸਮਾਨਾ ॥ |
jas janthee mehi jeeo samaanaa || |
It is like the music contained in the instrument; |
|
ਮੂਏ ਮਰਮੁ ਕੋ ਕਾ ਕਰ ਜਾਨਾ ॥੩॥ |
mooeae maram ko kaa kar jaanaa ||3|| |
how can anyone know the secret of the dead? ||3|| |

ਹੰਸਾ ਸਰਵਰੁ ਕਾਲੁ ਸਰੀਰ ॥ |
hansaa saravar kaal sareer || |
Like the swan on the lake, death hovers over the body. |

ਰਾਮ ਰਸਾਇਨ ਪੀਉ ਰੇ ਕਬੀਰ ॥੪॥੮॥ |
raam rasaaein peeo rae kabeer ||4||8|| |
Drink in the Lord's sweet elixir, Kabeer. ||4||8|| |

joth kee jaath jaath kee jothee || |
The creation is born of the Light, and the Light is in the creation. |

ਤਿਤੁ ਲਾਗੇ ਕੰਚੂਆ ਫਲ ਮੋਤੀ ॥੧॥ |
thith laagae kanchooaa fal mothee ||1|| |
It bears two fruits: the false glass and the true pearl. ||1|| |

ਕਵਨੁ ਸੁ ਘਰੁ ਜੋ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਕਹੀਐ ॥ |
kavan s ghar jo nirabho keheeai || |
Where is that home, which is said to be free of fear? |

ਭਉ ਭਜਿ ਜਾਇ ਅਭੈ ਹੋਇ ਰਹੀਐ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
bho bhaj jaae abhai hoe reheeai ||1|| rehaao || |
There, fear is dispelled and one lives without fear. ||1||Pause|| |

ਤਟਿ ਤੀਰਥਿ ਨਹੀ ਮਨੁ ਪਤੀਆਇ ॥ |
thatt theerathh nehee man patheeaae || |
On the banks of sacred rivers, the mind is not appeased. |
|
ਚਾਰ ਅਚਾਰ ਰਹੇ ਉਰਝਾਇ ॥੨॥ |
chaar achaar rehae ourajhaae ||2|| |
People remain entangled in good and bad deeds. ||2|| |
|
ਪਾਪ ਪੁੰਨ ਦੁਇ ਏਕ ਸਮਾਨ ॥ |
paap punn dhue eaek samaan || |
Sin and virtue are both the same. |
|
ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਪਾਰਸੁ ਤਜਹੁ ਗੁਨ ਆਨ ॥੩॥ |
nij ghar paaras thajahu gun aan ||3|| |
In the home of your own being, is the Philosopher's Stone; renounce your search for any other virtue. ||3|| |

ਕਬੀਰ ਨਿਰਗੁਣ ਨਾਮ ਨ ਰੋਸੁ ॥ |
kabeer niragun naam n ros || |
Kabeer: O worthless mortal, do not lose the Naam, the Name of the Lord. |

ਇਸੁ ਪਰਚਾਇ ਪਰਚਿ ਰਹੁ ਏਸੁ ॥੪॥੯॥ |

Keep this mind of yours involved in this involvement. ||4||9|| |

ਜੋ ਜਨ ਪਰਮਿਤਿ ਪਰਮਨੁ ਜਾਨਾ ॥ |
jo jan paramith paraman jaanaa || |
He claims to know the Lord, who is beyond measure and beyond thought; |
|
ਬਾਤਨ ਹੀ ਬੈਕੁੰਠ ਸਮਾਨਾ ॥੧॥ |
baathan hee baikunth samaanaa ||1|| |
by mere words, he plans to enter heaven. ||1|| |
|
ਨਾ ਜਾਨਾ ਬੈਕੁੰਠ ਕਹਾ ਹੀ ॥ |
naa jaanaa baikunth kehaa hee || |
I do not know where heaven is. |

ਜਾਨੁ ਜਾਨੁ ਸਭਿ ਕਹਹਿ ਤਹਾ ਹੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
jaan jaan sabh kehehi thehaa hee ||1|| rehaao || |
Everyone claims that he plans to go there. ||1||Pause|| |

ਕਹਨ ਕਹਾਵਨ ਨਹ ਪਤੀਅਈ ਹੈ ॥ |
kehan kehaavan neh patheeaee hai || |
By mere talk, the mind is not appeased. |
|
ਤਉ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨੈ ਜਾ ਤੇ ਹਉਮੈ ਜਈ ਹੈ ॥੨॥ |
tho man maanai jaa thae houmai jee hai ||2|| |
The mind is only appeased, when egotism is conquered. ||2|| |
|
ਜਬ ਲਗੁ ਮਨਿ ਬੈਕੁੰਠ ਕੀ ਆਸ ॥ |
jab lag man baikunth kee aas || |
As long as the mind is filled with the desire for heaven, |
|
ਤਬ ਲਗੁ ਹੋਇ ਨਹੀ ਚਰਨ ਨਿਵਾਸੁ ॥੩॥ |
thab lag hoe nehee charan nivaas ||3|| |
he does not dwell at the Lord's Feet. ||3|| |
|
ਕਹੁ ਕਬੀਰ ਇਹ ਕਹੀਐ ਕਾਹਿ ॥ |
kahu kabeer eih keheeai kaahi || |
Says Kabeer, unto whom should I tell this? |
