| For many years, I practiced penance and intense meditation at Kaashi; |

| ਮਰਨੁ ਭਇਆ ਮਗਹਰ ਕੀ ਬਾਸੀ ॥੩॥ |
| maran bhaeiaa magehar kee baasee ||3|| |
| now that my time to die has come, I have come to dwell at Magahar! ||3|| |

| ਕਾਸੀ ਮਗਹਰ ਸਮ ਬੀਚਾਰੀ ॥ |
| kaasee magehar sam beechaaree || |
| Kaashi and Magahar - I consider them the same. |
 |
| ਓਛੀ ਭਗਤਿ ਕੈਸੇ ਉਤਰਸਿ ਪਾਰੀ ॥੪॥ |
| oushhee bhagath kaisae outharas paaree ||4|| |
| With inadequate devotion, how can anyone swim across? ||4|| |

| ਕਹੁ ਗੁਰ ਗਜ ਸਿਵ ਸਭੁ ਕੋ ਜਾਨੈ ॥ |
| kahu gur gaj siv sabh ko jaanai || |
| Says Kabeer, the Guru and Ganaysha and Shiva all know |

| ਮੁਆ ਕਬੀਰੁ ਰਮਤ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਰਾਮੈ ॥੫॥੧੫॥ |

| that Kabeer died chanting the Lord's Name. ||5||15|| |

| ਚੋਆ ਚੰਦਨ ਮਰਦਨ ਅੰਗਾ ॥ |
| choaa chandhan maradhan angaa || |
| You may anoint your limbs with sandalwood oil, |
 |
| ਸੋ ਤਨੁ ਜਲੈ ਕਾਠ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਾ ॥੧॥ |
| so than jalai kaath kai sangaa ||1|| |
| but in the end, that body will be burned with the firewood. ||1|| |
 |
| ਇਸੁ ਤਨ ਧਨ ਕੀ ਕਵਨ ਬਡਾਈ ॥ |
| eis than dhhan kee kavan baddaaee || |
| Why should anyone take pride in this body or wealth? |
 |
| ਧਰਨਿ ਪਰੈ ਉਰਵਾਰਿ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| dhharan parai ouravaar n jaaee ||1|| rehaao || |
| They shall end up lying on the ground; they shall not go along with you to the world beyond. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਰਾਤਿ ਜਿ ਸੋਵਹਿ ਦਿਨ ਕਰਹਿ ਕਾਮ ॥ |
| raath j sovehi dhin karehi kaam || |
| They sleep by night and work during the day, |
 |
| ਇਕੁ ਖਿਨੁ ਲੇਹਿ ਨ ਹਰਿ ਕੋ ਨਾਮ ॥੨॥ |
| eik khin laehi n har ko naam ||2|| |
| but they do not chant the Lord's Name, even for an instant. ||2|| |
 |
| ਹਾਥਿ ਤ ਡੋਰ ਮੁਖਿ ਖਾਇਓ ਤੰਬੋਰ ॥ |
| haathh th ddor mukh khaaeiou thanbor || |
| They hold the string of the kite in their hands, and chew betel leaves in their mouths, |

| ਮਰਤੀ ਬਾਰ ਕਸਿ ਬਾਧਿਓ ਚੋਰ ॥੩॥ |
| marathee baar kas baadhhiou chor ||3|| |
| but at the time of death, they shall be tied up tight, like thieves. ||3|| |

| ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਰਸਿ ਰਸਿ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਵੈ ॥ |
| guramath ras ras har gun gaavai || |
| Through the Guru's Teachings, and immersed in His Love, sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord. |

| ਰਾਮੈ ਰਾਮ ਰਮਤ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਵੈ ॥੪॥ |
| raamai raam ramath sukh paavai ||4|| |
| Chant the Name of the Lord, Raam, Raam, and find peace. ||4|| |

| ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰਿ ਕੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਈ ॥ |
| kirapaa kar kai naam dhrirraaee || |
| In His Mercy, He implants the Naam within us; |

| ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਬਾਸੁ ਸੁਗੰਧ ਬਸਾਈ ॥੫॥ |
| har har baas sugandhh basaaee ||5|| |
| inhale deeply the sweet aroma and fragrance of the Lord, Har, Har. ||5|| |

| ਕਹਤ ਕਬੀਰ ਚੇਤਿ ਰੇ ਅੰਧਾ ॥ |
| kehath kabeer chaeth rae andhhaa || |
| Says Kabeer, remember Him, you blind fool! |

| ਸਤਿ ਰਾਮੁ ਝੂਠਾ ਸਭੁ ਧੰਧਾ ॥੬॥੧੬॥ |
| sath raam jhoothaa sabh dhhandhhaa ||6||16|| |
| The Lord is True; all worldly affairs are false. ||6||16|| |

| I have turned away from death and turned to the Lord. |

| ਦੁਖ ਬਿਨਸੇ ਸੁਖ ਕੀਓ ਬਿਸਰਾਮ ॥ |
| dhukh binasae sukh keeou bisaraam || |
| Pain has been eliminated, and I dwell in peac and comfort. |
 |
| ਬੈਰੀ ਉਲਟਿ ਭਏ ਹੈ ਮੀਤਾ ॥ |
| bairee oulatt bheae hai meethaa || |
| My enemies have been transformed into friends. |
 |
| ਸਾਕਤ ਉਲਟਿ ਸੁਜਨ ਭਏ ਚੀਤਾ ॥੧॥ |
| saakath oulatt sujan bheae cheethaa ||1|| |
| The faithless cynics have been transformed into good-hearted people. ||1|| |
 |
| ਅਬ ਮੋਹਿ ਸਰਬ ਕੁਸਲ ਕਰਿ ਮਾਨਿਆ ॥ |
| ab mohi sarab kusal kar maaniaa || |
| Now, I feel that everything brings me peace. |
 |
| ਤਨ ਮਹਿ ਹੋਤੀ ਕੋਟਿ ਉਪਾਧਿ ॥ |
| than mehi hothee kott oupaadhh || |
| My body was afflicted with millions of diseases. |
 |
| ਉਲਟਿ ਭਈ ਸੁਖ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਧਿ ॥ |
| oulatt bhee sukh sehaj samaadhh || |
| They have been transformed into the peaceful, tranquil concentration of Samaadhi. |
 |
| ਆਪੁ ਪਛਾਨੈ ਆਪੈ ਆਪ ॥ |
| aap pashhaanai aapai aap || |
| When someone understands his own self, |
 |
| ਰੋਗੁ ਨ ਬਿਆਪੈ ਤੀਨੌ ਤਾਪ ॥੨॥ |
| rog n biaapai theena thaap ||2|| |
| he no longer suffers from illness and the three fevers. ||2|| |
 |
| ਅਬ ਮਨੁ ਉਲਟਿ ਸਨਾਤਨੁ ਹੂਆ ॥ |
| ab man oulatt sanaathan hooaa || |
| My mind has now been restored to its original purity. |
 |
| ਤਬ ਜਾਨਿਆ ਜਬ ਜੀਵਤ ਮੂਆ ॥ |
| thab jaaniaa jab jeevath mooaa || |
| When I became dead while yet alive, only then did I come to know the Lord. |
 |
| ਕਹੁ ਕਬੀਰ ਸੁਖਿ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਵਉ ॥ |
| kahu kabeer sukh sehaj samaavo || |
| Says Kabeer, I am now immersed in intuitive peace and poise. |

| ਆਪਿ ਨ ਡਰਉ ਨ ਅਵਰ ਡਰਾਵਉ ॥੩॥੧੭॥ |
| aap n ddaro n avar ddaraavo ||3||17|| |
| I do not fear anyone, and I do not strike fear into anyone else. ||3||17|| |

| When the body dies, where does the soul go? |

| ਸਬਦਿ ਅਤੀਤਿ ਅਨਾਹਦਿ ਰਾਤਾ ॥ |
| sabadh atheeth anaahadh raathaa || |
| It is absorbed into the untouched, unstruck melody of the Word of the Shabad. |
 |
| ਜਿਨਿ ਰਾਮੁ ਜਾਨਿਆ ਤਿਨਹਿ ਪਛਾਨਿਆ ॥ |
| jin raam jaaniaa thinehi pashhaaniaa || |
| Only one who knows the Lord realizes Him. |
 |
| ਜਿਉ ਗੂੰਗੇ ਸਾਕਰ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨਿਆ ॥੧॥ |
| jio goongae saakar man maaniaa ||1|| |
| The mind is satisfied and satiated, like the mute who eats the sugar candy and just smiles, without speaking. ||1|| |

| ਐਸਾ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਕਥੈ ਬਨਵਾਰੀ ॥ |
| aisaa giaan kathhai banavaaree || |
| Such is the spiritual wisdom which the Lord has imparted. |

| ਮਨ ਰੇ ਪਵਨ ਦ੍ਰਿੜ ਸੁਖਮਨ ਨਾਰੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| man rae pavan dhrirr sukhaman naaree ||1|| rehaao || |
| O mind, hold your breath steady within the central channel of the Sushmanaa. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਸੋ ਗੁਰੁ ਕਰਹੁ ਜਿ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਨ ਕਰਨਾ ॥ |
| so gur karahu j bahur n karanaa || |
| Adopt such a Guru, that you shall not have to adopt another again. |
 |
| ਸੋ ਪਦੁ ਰਵਹੁ ਜਿ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਨ ਰਵਨਾ ॥ |
| so padh ravahu j bahur n ravanaa || |
| Dwell in such a state, that you shall never have to dwell in any other. |
 |
| ਸੋ ਧਿਆਨੁ ਧਰਹੁ ਜਿ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਨ ਧਰਨਾ ॥ |
| so dhhiaan dhharahu j bahur n dhharanaa || |
| Embrace such a meditation, that you shall never have to embrace any other. |

| ਐਸੇ ਮਰਹੁ ਜਿ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਨ ਮਰਨਾ ॥੨॥ |
| aisae marahu j bahur n maranaa ||2|| |
| Die in such a way, that you shall never have to die again. ||2|| |
 |
| ਉਲਟੀ ਗੰਗਾ ਜਮੁਨ ਮਿਲਾਵਉ ॥ |
| oulattee gangaa jamun milaavo || |
| Turn your breath away from the left channel, and away from the right channel, and unite them in the central channel of the Sushmanaa. |
 |
| ਬਿਨੁ ਜਲ ਸੰਗਮ ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਾਵਉ ॥ |
| bin jal sangam man mehi nhaavo || |
| At their confluence within your mind, take your bath there without water. |
 |
| ਲੋਚਾ ਸਮਸਰਿ ਇਹੁ ਬਿਉਹਾਰਾ ॥ |
| lochaa samasar eihu biouhaaraa || |
| To look upon all with an impartial eye - let this be your daily occupation. |
