| nirath karae bahu vaajae vajaaeae || |
| One may dance and play numerous instruments; |
|
| ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਅੰਧਾ ਬੋਲਾ ਹੈ ਕਿਸੁ ਆਖਿ ਸੁਣਾਏ ॥ |
| eihu man andhhaa bolaa hai kis aakh sunaaeae || |
| but this mind is blind and deaf, so for whose benefit is this speaking and preaching? |

| ਅੰਤਰਿ ਲੋਭੁ ਭਰਮੁ ਅਨਲ ਵਾਉ ॥ |
| anthar lobh bharam anal vaao || |
| Deep within is the fire of greed, and the dust-storm of doubt. |
|
| ਦੀਵਾ ਬਲੈ ਨ ਸੋਝੀ ਪਾਇ ॥੧॥ |
| dheevaa balai n sojhee paae ||1|| |
| The lamp of knowledge is not burning, and understanding is not obtained. ||1|| |

| ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਘਟਿ ਚਾਨਣੁ ਹੋਇ ॥ |
| guramukh bhagath ghatt chaanan hoe || |
| The Gurmukh has the light of devotional worship within his heart. |
|
| ਆਪੁ ਪਛਾਣਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸੋਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| aap pashhaan milai prabh soe ||1|| rehaao || |
| Understanding his own self, he meets God. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਿਰਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਲਾਗੈ ਭਾਉ ॥ |
| guramukh nirath har laagai bhaao || |
| The Gurmukh's dance is to embrace love for the Lord; |

| ਪੂਰੇ ਤਾਲ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਇ ॥ |
| poorae thaal vichahu aap gavaae || |
| to the beat of the drum, he sheds his ego from within. |
|
| ਮੇਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸਾਚਾ ਆਪੇ ਜਾਣੁ ॥ |
| maeraa prabh saachaa aapae jaan || |
| My God is True; He Himself is the Knower of all. |
|
| ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਪਛਾਣੁ ॥੨॥ |

| Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, recognize the Creator Lord within yourself. ||2|| |

| ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥ |
| guramukh bhagath anthar preeth piaar || |
| The Gurmukh is filled with devotional love for the Beloved Lord. |

| ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਸਹਜਿ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ ॥ |
| gur kaa sabadh sehaj veechaar || |
| He intuitively reflects upon the Word of the Guru's Shabad. |
|
| ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਸਚੁ ਸੋਇ ॥ |
| guramukh bhagath jugath sach soe || |
| For the Gurmukh, loving devotional worship is the way to the True Lord. |
|
| ਏਹਾ ਭਗਤਿ ਜਨੁ ਜੀਵਤ ਮਰੈ ॥ |
| eaehaa bhagath jan jeevath marai || |
| True Devotion is to remain dead while yet alive. |
|
| ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਭਵਜਲੁ ਤਰੈ ॥ |
| gur parasaadhee bhavajal tharai || |
| By Guru's Grace, one crosses over the terrible world-ocean. |
|
| ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਬਚਨਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਥਾਇ ਪਾਇ ॥ |
| gur kai bachan bhagath thhaae paae || |
| Through the Guru's Teachings, one's devotion is accepted, |
|
| ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਆਪਿ ਵਸੈ ਮਨਿ ਆਇ ॥੪॥ |
| har jeeo aap vasai man aae ||4|| |
| and then, the Dear Lord Himself comes to dwell in the mind. ||4|| |
|
| ਹਰਿ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥ |
| har kirapaa karae sathiguroo milaaeae || |
| When the Lord bestows His Mercy, He leads us to meet the True Guru. |
|
| ਨਿਹਚਲ ਭਗਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਉ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਏ ॥ |
| nihachal bhagath har sio chith laaeae || |
| Then, one's devotion becomes steady, and the consciousness is centered upon the Lord. |
|
| ਭਗਤਿ ਰਤੇ ਤਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਸਚੀ ਸੋਇ ॥ |
| bhagath rathae thinh sachee soe || |
| Those who are imbued with Devotion have truthful reputations. |
|
| ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ॥੫॥੧੨॥੫੧॥ |

| By the Pleasure of the Lord's Will one meets the True Guru and true understanding is obtained. |

| ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਹਰਿ ਬੂਝੈ ਸੋਈ ॥੧॥ |
| gur parasaadhee man vasai har boojhai soee ||1|| |
| By Guru's Grace, the Lord abides in the mind, and one comes to understand the Lord. ||1|| |

| ਮੈ ਸਹੁ ਦਾਤਾ ਏਕੁ ਹੈ ਅਵਰੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਕੋਈ ॥ |
| mai sahu dhaathaa eaek hai avar naahee koee || |
| My Husband Lord, the Great Giver, is One. There is no other at all. |

| ਗੁਰ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਤਾ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| gur kirapaa thae man vasai thaa sadhaa sukh hoee ||1|| rehaao || |
| By Guru's merciful favor, He abides in the mind, and then, a lasting peace ensues. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਇਸੁ ਜੁਗ ਮਹਿ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਹੈ ਪਾਈਐ ਗੁਰ ਵੀਚਾਰਿ ॥ |
| eis jug mehi nirabho har naam hai paaeeai gur veechaar || |
| In this age, the Lord's Name is fearless; it is obtained by meditative reflection upon the Guru. |

| ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਜਮ ਕੈ ਵਸਿ ਹੈ ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਅੰਧ ਗਵਾਰਿ ॥੨॥ |
| bin naavai jam kai vas hai manamukh andhh gavaar ||2|| |
| Without the Name, the blind, foolish, self-willed manmukh is under Death's power. ||2|| |
|
| ਹਰਿ ਕੈ ਭਾਣੈ ਜਨੁ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰੈ ਬੂਝੈ ਸਚੁ ਸੋਈ ॥ |
| har kai bhaanai jan saevaa karai boojhai sach soee || |
| By the Pleasure of the Lord's Will, the humble being performs His service, and understands the True Lord. |

| ਹਰਿ ਕੈ ਭਾਣੈ ਸਾਲਾਹੀਐ ਭਾਣੈ ਮੰਨਿਐ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਈ ॥੩॥ |
| har kai bhaanai saalaaheeai bhaanai manniai sukh hoee ||3|| |
| By the Pleasure of the Lord's Will, He is to be praised; surrendering to His Will, peace ensues. ||3|| |

| ਹਰਿ ਕੈ ਭਾਣੈ ਜਨਮੁ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਮਤਿ ਊਤਮ ਹੋਈ ॥ |
| har kai bhaanai janam padhaarathh paaeiaa math ootham hoee || |
| By the Pleasure of the Lord's Will, the prize of this human birth is obtained, and the intellect is exalted. |

| ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਲਾਹਿ ਤੂੰ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਗਤਿ ਹੋਈ ॥੪॥੩੯॥੧੩॥੫੨॥ |
| naanak naam salaahi thoon guramukh gath hoee ||4||39||13||52|| |
| O Nanak, praise the Naam, the Name of the Lord; as Gurmukh, you shall be emancipated. ||4||39||13||52|| |

| ਜੋ ਤਉ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋਈ ਥੀਸੀ ਜੋ ਤੂੰ ਦੇਹਿ ਸੋਈ ਹਉ ਪਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| jo tho bhaavai soee thheesee jo thoon dhaehi soee ho paaee ||1|| rehaao || |
| That which is pleasing to Your Will, comes to pass. Whatever You give, that is what I receive. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਸਭ ਤੇਰੀ ਤੂੰ ਸਭਨੀ ਧਿਆਇਆ ॥ |
| sabh thaeree thoon sabhanee dhhiaaeiaa || |
| All are Yours; all meditate on You. |
|
| ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰਹਿ ਤਿਨਿ ਨਾਮ ਰਤਨੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥ |
| jis no kirapaa karehi thin naam rathan paaeiaa || |
| He alone, whom You bless with Your Mercy, obtains the jewel of the Naam. |
|
| ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਲਾਧਾ ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਗਵਾਇਆ ॥ |
| guramukh laadhhaa manamukh gavaaeiaa || |
| The Gurmukhs obtain it, and the self-willed manmukhs lose it. |
|
| ਤੁਧੁ ਆਪਿ ਵਿਛੋੜਿਆ ਆਪਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ॥੧॥ |
| thudhh aap vishhorriaa aap milaaeiaa ||1|| |
| You Yourself separate the mortals, and You Yourself unite them. ||1|| |
|
| ਤੂੰ ਦਰੀਆਉ ਸਭ ਤੁਝ ਹੀ ਮਾਹਿ ॥ |
| thoon dhareeaao sabh thujh hee maahi || |
| You are the River - all are within You. |
|
| ਤੁਝ ਬਿਨੁ ਦੂਜਾ ਕੋਈ ਨਾਹਿ ॥ |
| thujh bin dhoojaa koee naahi || |
| Other than You, there is no one at all. |
|
| ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਸਭਿ ਤੇਰਾ ਖੇਲੁ ॥ |
| jeea janth sabh thaeraa khael || |
| All beings and creatures are your play-things. |
|
| ਵਿਜੋਗਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਵਿਛੁੜਿਆ ਸੰਜੋਗੀ ਮੇਲੁ ॥੨॥ |
| vijog mil vishhurriaa sanjogee mael ||2|| |
| The united ones are separated, and the separated ones are re-united. ||2|| |

| ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਤੂ ਜਾਣਾਇਹਿ ਸੋਈ ਜਨੁ ਜਾਣੈ ॥ |
| jis no thoo jaanaaeihi soee jan jaanai || |
| That humble being, whom You inspire to understand, understands; |
