| ਰੰਗ ਤਮਾਸੇ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਬਿਸਥਾਰ ॥ |
| rang thamaasae bahuth bisathhaar || |
| and such abundant pleasures and entertainments, |

| ਰਾਜ ਮਿਲਖ ਅਰੁ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਫੁਰਮਾਇਸਿ ॥ |
| raaj milakh ar bahuth furamaaeis || |
| power and property and absolute command |
|
| ਮਨੁ ਨਹੀ ਧ੍ਰਾਪੈ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਨ ਜਾਇਸਿ ॥ |
| man nehee dhhraapai thrisanaa naa jaaeis || |
| with these, the mind is not satisfied, and its thirst is not quenched. |

| ਬਿਨੁ ਮਿਲਬੇ ਇਹੁ ਦਿਨੁ ਨ ਬਿਹਾਵੈ ॥ |
| bin milabae eihu dhin n bihaavai || |
| Without meeting Him, this day does not pass. |
|
| ਮਿਲੈ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਤਾ ਸਭ ਸੁਖ ਪਾਵੈ ॥੩॥ |
| milai prabhoo thaa sabh sukh paavai ||3|| |
| Meeting God, I find peace. ||3|| |
|
| ਖੋਜਤ ਖੋਜਤ ਸੁਨੀ ਇਹ ਸੋਇ ॥ |
| khojath khojath sunee eih soe || |
| By searching and seeking, I have heard this news, |
|
| ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਤਰਿਓ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥ |
| saadhhasangath bin thariou n koe || |
| that without the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, no one swims across. |
|
| ਜਿਸੁ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਭਾਗੁ ਤਿਨਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥ |
| jis masathak bhaag thin sathigur paaeiaa || |
| One who has this good destiny written upon his forehead, finds the True Guru. |

| ਪੂਰੀ ਆਸਾ ਮਨੁ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਾਇਆ ॥ |
| pooree aasaa man thripathaaeiaa || |
| His hopes are fulfilled, and his mind is satisfied. |
|
| ਪ੍ਰਭ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਤਾ ਚੂਕੀ ਡੰਝਾ ॥ |
| prabh miliaa thaa chookee ddanjhaa || |
| When one meets God, then his thirst is quenched. |
|
| ਨਾਨਕ ਲਧਾ ਮਨ ਤਨ ਮੰਝਾ ॥੪॥੧੧॥ |
| naanak ladhhaa man than manjhaa ||4||11|| |
| Nanak has found the Lord, within his mind and body. ||4||11|| |

| ਪ੍ਰਥਮੇ ਤੇਰੀ ਨੀਕੀ ਜਾਤਿ ॥ |
| prathhamae thaeree neekee jaath || |
| First, your social status is high. |
|
| ਦੁਤੀਆ ਤੇਰੀ ਮਨੀਐ ਪਾਂਤਿ ॥ |
| dhutheeaa thaeree maneeai paanth || |
| Second, you are honored in society. |
|
| ਤ੍ਰਿਤੀਆ ਤੇਰਾ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਥਾਨੁ ॥ |
| thritheeaa thaeraa sundhar thhaan || |
| Third, your home is beautiful. |
|
| ਬਿਗੜ ਰੂਪੁ ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ॥੧॥ |
| bigarr roop man mehi abhimaan ||1|| |
| But you are so ugly, with self-conceit in your mind. ||1|| |
|
| ਸੋਹਨੀ ਸਰੂਪਿ ਸੁਜਾਣਿ ਬਿਚਖਨਿ ॥ |
| sohanee saroop sujaan bichakhan || |
| O beautiful, attractive, wise and clever woman: |
|
| ਅਤਿ ਗਰਬੈ ਮੋਹਿ ਫਾਕੀ ਤੂੰ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| ath garabai mohi faakee thoon ||1|| rehaao || |
| you have been trapped by your pride and attachment. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਅਤਿ ਸੂਚੀ ਤੇਰੀ ਪਾਕਸਾਲ ॥ |
| ath soochee thaeree paakasaal || |
| Your kitchen is so clean. |
|
| ਕਰਿ ਇਸਨਾਨੁ ਪੂਜਾ ਤਿਲਕੁ ਲਾਲ ॥ |
| kar eisanaan poojaa thilak laal || |
| You take your bath, and worship, and apply the crimson mark upon your forehead; |
|
| ਗਲੀ ਗਰਬਹਿ ਮੁਖਿ ਗੋਵਹਿ ਗਿਆਨ ॥ |
| galee garabehi mukh govehi giaan || |
| with your mouth you speak wisdom, but you are destroyed by pride. |
|
| ਸਭ ਬਿਧਿ ਖੋਈ ਲੋਭਿ ਸੁਆਨ ॥੨॥ |
| sabh bidhh khoee lobh suaan ||2|| |
| The dog of greed has ruined you in every way. ||2|| |
|
| ਕਾਪਰ ਪਹਿਰਹਿ ਭੋਗਹਿ ਭੋਗ ॥ |
| kaapar pehirehi bhogehi bhog || |
| You wear your robes and enjoy pleasures; |
|
| ਆਚਾਰ ਕਰਹਿ ਸੋਭਾ ਮਹਿ ਲੋਗ ॥ |
| aachaar karehi sobhaa mehi log || |
| you practice good conduct to impress people; |
|
| ਚੋਆ ਚੰਦਨ ਸੁਗੰਧ ਬਿਸਥਾਰ ॥ |
| choaa chandhan sugandhh bisathhaar || |
| you apply scented oils of sandalwood and musk, |
|
| ਸੰਗੀ ਖੋਟਾ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਚੰਡਾਲ ॥੩॥ |
| sangee khottaa krodhh chanddaal ||3|| |
| but your constant companion is the demon of anger. ||3|| |
|
| ਅਵਰ ਜੋਨਿ ਤੇਰੀ ਪਨਿਹਾਰੀ ॥ |
| avar jon thaeree panihaaree || |
| Other people may be your water-carriers; |
|
| ਇਸੁ ਧਰਤੀ ਮਹਿ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਿਕਦਾਰੀ ॥ |
| eis dhharathee mehi thaeree sikadhaaree || |
| in this world, you may be a ruler. |
|
| ਸੁਇਨਾ ਰੂਪਾ ਤੁਝ ਪਹਿ ਦਾਮ ॥ |
| sueinaa roopaa thujh pehi dhaam || |
| Gold, silver and wealth may be yours, |
|
| ਸੀਲੁ ਬਿਗਾਰਿਓ ਤੇਰਾ ਕਾਮ ॥੪॥ |
| seel bigaariou thaeraa kaam ||4|| |
| but the goodness of your conduct has been destroyed by sexual promiscuity. ||4|| |
|
| ਜਾ ਕਉ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਮਇਆ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਇ ॥ |
| jaa ko dhrisatt maeiaa har raae || |
| That soul, upon whom the Lord has bestowed His Glance of Grace, |
|
| ਸਾ ਬੰਦੀ ਤੇ ਲਈ ਛਡਾਇ ॥ |
| saa bandhee thae lee shhaddaae || |
| is delivered from bondage. |
|
| ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥ |
| saadhhasang mil har ras paaeiaa || |
| Joining the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, the Lord's sublime essence is obtained. |

| ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਫਲ ਓਹ ਕਾਇਆ ॥੫॥ |
| kahu naanak safal ouh kaaeiaa ||5|| |
| Says Nanak, how fruitful is that body. ||5|| |

| ਸਭਿ ਰੂਪ ਸਭਿ ਸੁਖ ਬਨੇ ਸੁਹਾਗਨਿ ॥ |
| sabh roop sabh sukh banae suhaagan || |
| All graces and all comforts shall come to you, as the happy soul-bride; |

| ਅਤਿ ਸੁੰਦਰਿ ਬਿਚਖਨਿ ਤੂੰ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ਦੂਜਾ ॥੧੨॥ |

| ਜੀਵਤ ਦੀਸੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਸਰਪਰ ਮਰਣਾ ॥ |
| jeevath dheesai this sarapar maranaa || |
| One who is seen to be alive, shall surely die. |
|
| ਮੁਆ ਹੋਵੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ਰਹਣਾ ॥੧॥ |
| muaa hovai this nihachal rehanaa ||1|| |
| But he who is dead shall remain ever-lasting. ||1|| |
|
| ਜੀਵਤ ਮੁਏ ਮੁਏ ਸੇ ਜੀਵੇ ॥ |
| jeevath mueae mueae sae jeevae || |
| Those who die while yet alive, shall through this death, live on. |
|
| ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਵਖਧੁ ਮੁਖਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਰਸੁ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਪੀਵੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| har har naam avakhadhh mukh paaeiaa gur sabadhee ras anmrith peevae ||1|| rehaao || |
| They place the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, as medicine in their mouths, and through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, they drink in the Ambrosial Nectar. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਕਾਚੀ ਮਟੁਕੀ ਬਿਨਸਿ ਬਿਨਾਸਾ ॥ |
| kaachee mattukee binas binaasaa || |
| The clay pot of the body shall be broken. |
|
| ਜਿਸੁ ਛੂਟੈ ਤ੍ਰਿਕੁਟੀ ਤਿਸੁ ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਵਾਸਾ ॥੨॥ |
| jis shhoottai thrikuttee this nij ghar vaasaa ||2|| |
| One who has eliminated the three qualities dwells in the home of his inner self. ||2|| |
|
| ਊਚਾ ਚੜੈ ਸੁ ਪਵੈ ਪਇਆਲਾ ॥ |
| oochaa charrai s pavai paeiaalaa || |
| One who climbs high, shall fall into the nether regions of the underworld. |
|
| ਧਰਨਿ ਪੜੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਲਗੈ ਨ ਕਾਲਾ ॥੩॥ |
| dhharan parrai this lagai n kaalaa ||3|| |
| One who lies upon the ground, shall not be touched by death. ||3|| |
|
| ਭ੍ਰਮਤ ਫਿਰੇ ਤਿਨ ਕਿਛੂ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ॥ |
| bhramath firae thin kishhoo n paaeiaa || |
| Those who continue to wander around, achieve nothing. |
|
| ਸੇ ਅਸਥਿਰ ਜਿਨ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੁ ਕਮਾਇਆ ॥੪॥ |
| sae asathhir jin gur sabadh kamaaeiaa ||4|| |
| Those who practice the Guru's Teachings, become steady and stable. ||4|| |
|
| ਜੀਉ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਸਭੁ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਮਾਲੁ ॥ |
| jeeo pindd sabh har kaa maal || |
| This body and soul all belong to the Lord. |
|
| ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਿ ਭਏ ਨਿਹਾਲ ॥੫॥੧੩॥ |
