| From childhood to old age, |

| ਪਹੁਚਿ ਨ ਮੂਕਾ ਫਿਰਿ ਪਛੁਤਾਨਾ ॥੨॥ |

| the mortal does not attain his goals, and he comes to regret in the end. ||2|| |

| ਤ੍ਰਿਹੁ ਗੁਣ ਮਹਿ ਵਰਤੈ ਸੰਸਾਰਾ ॥ |
| thrihu gun mehi varathai sansaaraa || |
| The world is under the influence of the three qualities. |
|
| ਨਰਕ ਸੁਰਗ ਫਿਰਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਅਉਤਾਰਾ ॥੩॥ |
| narak surag fir fir aouthaaraa ||3|| |
| The mortal is reincarnated, again and again, into heaven and hell. ||3|| |

| ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਜੋ ਲਾਇਆ ਨਾਮ ॥ |

| Says Nanak, one who is attached to the Naam, the Name of the Lord, |

| ਸੋਇ ਰਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਖਬਰਿ ਨ ਜਾਨੀ ॥ |
| soe rehee prabh khabar n jaanee || |
| She remains asleep, and does not know the news of God. |
|
| ਭੋਰੁ ਭਇਆ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਪਛੁਤਾਨੀ ॥੧॥ |
| bhor bhaeiaa bahur pashhuthaanee ||1|| |
| The day dawns, and then, she regrets. ||1|| |
|
| ਪ੍ਰਿਅ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਸਹਜਿ ਮਨਿ ਅਨਦੁ ਧਰਉ ਰੀ ॥ |
| pria praem sehaj man anadh dhharo ree || |
| Loving the Beloved, the mind is filled with celestial bliss. |

| ਪ੍ਰਭ ਮਿਲਬੇ ਕੀ ਲਾਲਸਾ ਤਾ ਤੇ ਆਲਸੁ ਕਹਾ ਕਰਉ ਰੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| prabh milabae kee laalasaa thaa thae aalas kehaa karo ree ||1|| rehaao || |
| You yearn to meet with God, so why do you delay? ||1||Pause|| |
|
| ਕਰ ਮਹਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਆਣਿ ਨਿਸਾਰਿਓ ॥ |
| kar mehi anmrith aan nisaariou || |
| He came and poured His Ambrosial Nectar into your hands, |
|
| ਖਿਸਰਿ ਗਇਓ ਭੂਮ ਪਰਿ ਡਾਰਿਓ ॥੨॥ |
| khisar gaeiou bhoom par ddaariou ||2|| |
| but it slipped through your fingers, and fell onto the ground. ||2|| |
|
| ਸਾਦਿ ਮੋਹਿ ਲਾਦੀ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੇ ॥ |
| saadh mohi laadhee ahankaarae || |
| You are burdened with desire, emotional attachment and egotism; |
|
| ਦੋਸੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਰਣੈਹਾਰੇ ॥੩॥ |
| dhos naahee prabh karanaihaarae ||3|| |
| it is not the fault of God the Creator. ||3|| |
|
| ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਮਿਟੇ ਭਰਮ ਅੰਧਾਰੇ ॥ |
| saadhhasang mittae bharam andhhaarae || |
| In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, the darkness of doubt is dispelled. |

| I long for the Lotus Feet of my Beloved Lord. |

| ਜਮਕੰਕਰ ਨਸਿ ਗਏ ਵਿਚਾਰੇ ॥੧॥ |

| The wretched Messenger of Death has run away from me. ||1|| |

| ਤੂ ਚਿਤਿ ਆਵਹਿ ਤੇਰੀ ਮਇਆ ॥ |

| You enter into my mind, by Your Kind Mercy. |

| Meditating on the Naam, the Name of the Lord, all diseases are destroyed. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਅਨਿਕ ਦੂਖ ਦੇਵਹਿ ਅਵਰਾ ਕਉ ॥ |

| Death gives so much pain to others, |
|
| ਪਹੁਚਿ ਨ ਸਾਕਹਿ ਜਨ ਤੇਰੇ ਕਉ ॥੨॥ |
| pahuch n saakehi jan thaerae ko ||2|| |
| but it cannot even come near Your slave. ||2|| |

| ਦਰਸ ਤੇਰੇ ਕੀ ਪਿਆਸ ਮਨਿ ਲਾਗੀ ॥ |
| dharas thaerae kee piaas man laagee || |
| My mind thirsts for Your Vision; |

| ਸਹਜ ਅਨੰਦ ਬਸੈ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ॥੩॥ |
| sehaj anandh basai bairaagee ||3|| |
| in peaceful ease and bliss, I dwell in detachment. ||3|| |

| My mind is satisfied, and my entanglements have been dissolved. |

| ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਅਪੁਨਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਕਿਰਪਾਲ ॥੧॥ |

| God has become merciful to me. ||1|| |

| By the Grace of the Saints, everything has turned out well. |

| His House is overflowing with all things; I have met Him, the Fearless Master. ||1||Pause|| |

| By the Kind Mercy of the Holy Saints, the Naam has been implanted within me. |

| ਮਿਟਿ ਗਈ ਭੂਖ ਮਹਾ ਬਿਕਰਾਲ ॥੨॥ |
| mitt gee bhookh mehaa bikaraal ||2|| |
| The most dreadful desires have been eliminated. ||2|| |
|
| ਠਾਕੁਰਿ ਅਪੁਨੈ ਕੀਨੀ ਦਾਤਿ ॥ |
| thaakur apunai keenee dhaath || |
| My Master has given me a gift; |
|
| ਜਲਨਿ ਬੁਝੀ ਮਨਿ ਹੋਈ ਸਾਂਤਿ ॥੩॥ |
| jalan bujhee man hoee saanth ||3|| |
| the fire has been extinguished, and my mind is now at peace. ||3|| |

| ਨਾਨਕ ਪਾਇਆ ਨਾਮ ਖਜਾਨਾ ॥੪॥੨੭॥੭੮॥ |
| naanak paaeiaa naam khajaanaa ||4||27||78|| |
| Nanak has obtained the treasure of the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||4||27||78|| |

| Those who are attuned to their Lord and Master |

| ਭੋਜਨ ਪੂਰਨ ਰਹੇ ਅਘਾਈ ॥੧॥ |
| bhojan pooran rehae aghaaee ||1|| |
| are satisfied and fulfilled with the perfect food. ||1|| |
|
| ਕਛੂ ਨ ਥੋਰਾ ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤਨ ਕਉ ॥ |
| kashhoo n thhoraa har bhagathan ko || |
| The Lord's devotees never run short of anything. |
|
| ਖਾਤ ਖਰਚਤ ਬਿਲਛਤ ਦੇਵਨ ਕਉ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| khaath kharachath bilashhath dhaevan ko ||1|| rehaao || |
| They have plenty to eat, spend, enjoy and give. ||1||Pause|| |
|
| ਜਾ ਕਾ ਧਨੀ ਅਗਮ ਗੁਸਾਈ ॥ |
| jaa kaa dhhanee agam gusaaee || |
| One who has the Unfathomable Lord of the Universe as his Master |
|
| ਮਾਨੁਖ ਕੀ ਕਹੁ ਕੇਤ ਚਲਾਈ ॥੨॥ |
| maanukh kee kahu kaeth chalaaee ||2|| |
| - how can any mere mortal stand up to him? ||2|| |
|
| ਜਾ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਦਸ ਅਸਟ ਸਿਧਾਈ ॥ |
| jaa kee saevaa dhas asatt sidhhaaee || |
| One who is served by the eighteen supernatural powers of the Siddhas |
|
| ਪਲਕ ਦਿਸਟਿ ਤਾ ਕੀ ਲਾਗਹੁ ਪਾਈ ॥੩॥ |
| palak dhisatt thaa kee laagahu paaee ||3|| |
| - grasp his feet, even for an instant. ||3|| |
|
| ਜਾ ਕਉ ਦਇਆ ਕਰਹੁ ਮੇਰੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ॥ |
| jaa ko dhaeiaa karahu maerae suaamee || |
| That one, upon whom You have showered Your Mercy, O my Lord Master |
|
| ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਹੀ ਤਿਨ ਕਾਮੀ ॥੪॥੨੮॥੭੯॥ |
| kahu naanak naahee thin kaamee ||4||28||79|| |
