| ਘੜੀ ਮੁਹਤ ਕਾ ਪਾਹੁਣਾ ਕਾਜ ਸਵਾਰਣਹਾਰੁ ॥ |
| gharree muhath kaa paahunaa kaaj savaaranehaar || |
| For a brief moment, man is a guest of the Lord; he tries to resolve his affairs. |

| ਮਾਇਆ ਕਾਮਿ ਵਿਆਪਿਆ ਸਮਝੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਗਾਵਾਰੁ ॥ |
| maaeiaa kaam viaapiaa samajhai naahee gaavaar || |
| Engrossed in Maya and sexual desire, the fool does not understand. |

| ਉਠਿ ਚਲਿਆ ਪਛੁਤਾਇਆ ਪਰਿਆ ਵਸਿ ਜੰਦਾਰ ॥੧॥ |
| outh chaliaa pashhuthaaeiaa pariaa vas jandhaar ||1|| |
| He arises and departs with regret, and falls into the clutches of the Messenger of Death. ||1|| |

| ਅੰਧੇ ਤੂੰ ਬੈਠਾ ਕੰਧੀ ਪਾਹਿ ॥ |
| andhhae thoon baithaa kandhhee paahi || |
| You are sitting on the collapsing riverbank-are you blind? |

| ਜੇ ਹੋਵੀ ਪੂਰਬਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਤਾ ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਬਚਨੁ ਕਮਾਹਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| jae hovee poorab likhiaa thaa gur kaa bachan kamaahi ||1|| rehaao || |
| If you are so pre-destined, then act according to the Guru's Teachings. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਹਰੀ ਨਾਹੀ ਨਹ ਡਡੁਰੀ ਪਕੀ ਵਢਣਹਾਰ ॥ |
| haree naahee neh ddadduree pakee vadtanehaar || |
| The Reaper does not look upon any as unripe, half-ripe or fully ripe. |

| ਲੈ ਲੈ ਦਾਤ ਪਹੁਤਿਆ ਲਾਵੇ ਕਰਿ ਤਈਆਰੁ ॥ |
| lai lai dhaath pahuthiaa laavae kar theeaar || |
| Picking up and wielding their sickles, the harvesters arrive. |

| ਜਾ ਹੋਆ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਕਿਰਸਾਣ ਦਾ ਤਾ ਲੁਣਿ ਮਿਣਿਆ ਖੇਤਾਰੁ ॥੨॥ |
| jaa hoaa hukam kirasaan dhaa thaa lun miniaa khaethaar ||2|| |
| When the landlord gives the order, they cut and measure the crop. ||2|| |

| ਪਹਿਲਾ ਪਹਰੁ ਧੰਧੈ ਗਇਆ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਰਿ ਸੋਇਆ ॥ |
| pehilaa pehar dhhandhhai gaeiaa dhoojai bhar soeiaa || |
| The first watch of the night passes away in worthless affairs, and the second passes in deep sleep. |

| ਤੀਜੈ ਝਾਖ ਝਖਾਇਆ ਚਉਥੈ ਭੋਰੁ ਭਇਆ ॥ |
| theejai jhaakh jhakhaaeiaa chouthhai bhor bhaeiaa || |
| In the third, they babble nonsense, and when the fourth watch comes, the day of death has arrived. |

| ਕਦ ਹੀ ਚਿਤਿ ਨ ਆਇਓ ਜਿਨਿ ਜੀਉ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਦੀਆ ॥੩॥ |
| kadh hee chith n aaeiou jin jeeo pindd dheeaa ||3|| |
| The thought of the One who bestows body and soul never enters the mind. ||3|| |

| ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਕਉ ਵਾਰਿਆ ਜੀਉ ਕੀਆ ਕੁਰਬਾਣੁ ॥ |
| saadhhasangath ko vaariaa jeeo keeaa kurabaan || |
| I am devoted to the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy; I sacrifice my soul to them. |

| ਜਿਸ ਤੇ ਸੋਝੀ ਮਨਿ ਪਈ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਸੁਜਾਣੁ ॥ |
| jis thae sojhee man pee miliaa purakh sujaan || |
| Through them, understanding has entered my mind, and I have met the All-knowing Lord God. |

| ਨਾਨਕ ਡਿਠਾ ਸਦਾ ਨਾਲਿ ਹਰਿ ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ਜਾਣੁ ॥੪॥੪॥੭੪॥ |
| naanak ddithaa sadhaa naal har antharajaamee jaan ||4||4||74|| |
| Nanak sees the Lord always with him-the Lord, the Inner-knower, the Searcher of hearts. ||4||4||74|| |

| Let me forget everything, but let me not forget the One Lord. |

| ਧੰਧਾ ਸਭੁ ਜਲਾਇ ਕੈ ਗੁਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਦੀਆ ਸਚੁ ਸੁਆਉ ॥ |
| dhhandhhaa sabh jalaae kai gur naam dheeaa sach suaao || |
| All my evil pursuits have been burnt away; the Guru has blessed me with the Naam, the true object of life. |

| ਆਸਾ ਸਭੇ ਲਾਹਿ ਕੈ ਇਕਾ ਆਸ ਕਮਾਉ ॥ |
| aasaa sabhae laahi kai eikaa aas kamaao || |
| Give up all other hopes, and rely on the One Hope. |
 |
| ਜਿਨੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿਆ ਤਿਨ ਅਗੈ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਥਾਉ ॥੧॥ |
| jinee sathigur saeviaa thin agai miliaa thhaao ||1|| |
| Those who serve the True Guru receive a place in the world hereafter. ||1|| |

| ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਕਰਤੇ ਨੋ ਸਾਲਾਹਿ ॥ |
| man maerae karathae no saalaahi || |
| O my mind, praise the Creator. |
 |
| ਸਭੇ ਛਡਿ ਸਿਆਣਪਾ ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਪੈਰੀ ਪਾਹਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| sabhae shhadd siaanapaa gur kee pairee paahi ||1|| rehaao || |
| Give up all your clever tricks, and fall at the Feet of the Guru. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਦੁਖ ਭੁਖ ਨਹ ਵਿਆਪਈ ਜੇ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਮਨਿ ਹੋਇ ॥ |
| dhukh bhukh neh viaapee jae sukhadhaathaa man hoe || |
| Pain and hunger shall not oppress you, if the Giver of Peace comes into your mind. |

| ਕਿਤ ਹੀ ਕੰਮਿ ਨ ਛਿਜੀਐ ਜਾ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਸਚਾ ਸੋਇ ॥ |
| kith hee kanm n shhijeeai jaa hiradhai sachaa soe || |
| No undertaking shall fail, when the True Lord is always in your heart. |

| ਜਿਸੁ ਤੂੰ ਰਖਹਿ ਹਥ ਦੇ ਤਿਸੁ ਮਾਰਿ ਨ ਸਕੈ ਕੋਇ ॥ |
| jis thoon rakhehi hathh dhae this maar n sakai koe || |
| No one can kill that one unto whom You, Lord, give Your Hand and protect. |

| ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵੀਐ ਸਭਿ ਅਵਗਣ ਕਢੈ ਧੋਇ ॥੨॥ |
| sukhadhaathaa gur saeveeai sabh avagan kadtai dhhoe ||2|| |
| Serve the Guru, the Giver of Peace; He shall remove and wash off all your faults. ||2|| |

| ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗੁ ਮਸਕਤੇ ਤੂਠੈ ਪਾਵਾ ਦੇਵ ॥ |
| saadhhoo sang masakathae thoothai paavaa dhaev || |
| The opportunity to work hard serving the Saadh Sangat is obtained, when the Divine Lord is pleased. |

| ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਵਸਗਤਿ ਸਾਹਿਬੈ ਆਪੇ ਕਰਣ ਕਰੇਵ ॥ |
| sabh kishh vasagath saahibai aapae karan karaev || |
| Everything is in the Hands of our Lord and Master; He Himself is the Doer of deeds. |

| ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਬਲਿਹਾਰਣੈ ਮਨਸਾ ਸਭ ਪੂਰੇਵ ॥੩॥ |
| sathigur kai balihaaranai manasaa sabh pooraev ||3|| |
| I am a sacrifice to the True Guru, who fulfills all hopes and desires. ||3|| |

| ਇਕੋ ਦਿਸੈ ਸਜਣੋ ਇਕੋ ਭਾਈ ਮੀਤੁ ॥ |
| eiko dhisai sajano eiko bhaaee meeth || |
| The One appears to be my Companion; the One is my Brother and Friend. |
 |
| ਇਕਸੈ ਦੀ ਸਾਮਗਰੀ ਇਕਸੈ ਦੀ ਹੈ ਰੀਤਿ ॥ |
| eikasai dhee saamagaree eikasai dhee hai reeth || |
| The elements and the components are all made by the One; they are held in their order by the One. |

| ਇਕਸ ਸਿਉ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨਿਆ ਤਾ ਹੋਆ ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ਚੀਤੁ ॥ |
| eikas sio man maaniaa thaa hoaa nihachal cheeth || |
| When the mind accepts, and is satisfied with the One, then the consciousness becomes steady and stable. |

| ਸਚੁ ਖਾਣਾ ਸਚੁ ਪੈਨਣਾ ਟੇਕ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਚੁ ਕੀਤੁ ॥੪॥੫॥੭੫॥ |
| sach khaanaa sach painanaa ttaek naanak sach keeth ||4||5||75|| |
| Then, one's food is the True Name, one's garments are the True Name, and one's Support, O Nanak, is the True Name. ||4||5||75|| |

| All things are received if the One is obtained. |

| ਜਨਮੁ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਸਫਲੁ ਹੈ ਜੇ ਸਚਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਕਥਿ ॥ |
| janam padhaarathh safal hai jae sachaa sabadh kathh || |
| The precious gift of this human life becomes fruitful when one chants the True Word of the Shabad. |

| ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਮਹਲੁ ਪਰਾਪਤੇ ਜਿਸੁ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਹੋਵੈ ਮਥਿ ॥੧॥ |
| gur thae mehal paraapathae jis likhiaa hovai mathh ||1|| |
| One who has such destiny written on his forehead enters the Mansion of the Lord's Presence, through the Guru. ||1|| |

| ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਏਕਸ ਸਿਉ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਇ ॥ |
| maerae man eaekas sio chith laae || |
| O my mind, focus your consciousness on the One. |
 |
| ਏਕਸ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਭ ਧੰਧੁ ਹੈ ਸਭ ਮਿਥਿਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਮਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| eaekas bin sabh dhhandhh hai sabh mithhiaa mohu maae ||1|| rehaao || |
| Without the One, all entanglements are worthless; emotional attachment to Maya is totally false. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਲਖ ਖੁਸੀਆ ਪਾਤਿਸਾਹੀਆ ਜੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇਇ ॥ |
| lakh khuseeaa paathisaaheeaa jae sathigur nadhar karaee || |
| Hundreds of thousands of princely pleasures are enjoyed, if the True Guru bestows His Glance of Grace. |

| ਨਿਮਖ ਏਕ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਦੇਇ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਸੀਤਲੁ ਹੋਇ ॥ |
| nimakh eaek har naam dhaee maeraa man than seethal hoe || |
| If He bestows the Name of the Lord, for even a moment, my mind and body are cooled and soothed. |

| ਜਿਸ ਕਉ ਪੂਰਬਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਤਿਨਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਚਰਨ ਗਹੇ ॥੨॥ |
| jis ko poorab likhiaa thin sathigur charan gehae ||2|| |
| Those who have such pre-ordained destiny hold tight to the Feet of the True Guru. ||2|| |

| ਸਫਲ ਮੂਰਤੁ ਸਫਲਾ ਘੜੀ ਜਿਤੁ ਸਚੇ ਨਾਲਿ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥ |
| safal moorath safalaa gharree jith sachae naal piaar || |
| Fruitful is that moment, and fruitful is that time, when one is in love with the True Lord. |
 |
| ਦੂਖੁ ਸੰਤਾਪੁ ਨ ਲਗਈ ਜਿਸੁ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਧਾਰੁ ॥ |
| dhookh santhaap n lagee jis har kaa naam adhhaar || |
| Suffering and sorrow do not touch those who have the Support of the Name of the Lord. |

| ਬਾਹ ਪਕੜਿ ਗੁਰਿ ਕਾਢਿਆ ਸੋਈ ਉਤਰਿਆ ਪਾਰਿ ॥੩॥ |
| baah pakarr gur kaadtiaa soee outhariaa paar ||3|| |
| Grasping him by the arm, the Guru lifts them up and out, and carries them across to the other side. ||3|| |

| ਥਾਨੁ ਸੁਹਾਵਾ ਪਵਿਤੁ ਹੈ ਜਿਥੈ ਸੰਤ ਸਭਾ ॥ |
| thhaan suhaavaa pavith hai jithhai santh sabhaa || |
| Embellished and immaculate is that place where the Saints gather together. |

| ਢੋਈ ਤਿਸ ਹੀ ਨੋ ਮਿਲੈ ਜਿਨਿ ਪੂਰਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਲਭਾ ॥ |
| dtoee this hee no milai jin pooraa guroo labhaa || |
| He alone finds shelter, who has met the Perfect Guru. |

| ਨਾਨਕ ਬਧਾ ਘਰੁ ਤਹਾਂ ਜਿਥੈ ਮਿਰਤੁ ਨ ਜਨਮੁ ਜਰਾ ॥੪॥੬॥੭੬॥ |
| naanak badhhaa ghar thehaan jithhai mirath n janam jaraa ||4||6||76|| |
| Nanak builds his house upon that site where there is no death, no birth, and no old age. ||4||6||76|| |

| Meditate on Him, O my soul; He is the Supreme Lord over kings and emperors. |

| ਤਿਸ ਹੀ ਕੀ ਕਰਿ ਆਸ ਮਨ ਜਿਸ ਕਾ ਸਭਸੁ ਵੇਸਾਹੁ ॥ |
| this hee kee kar aas man jis kaa sabhas vaesaahu || |
| Place the hopes of your mind in the One, in whom all have faith. |
