| ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਉਪਾਈ ਜੋਤੀ ਤੂ ਜਾਤਿ ॥ |
| srisatt oupaaee jothee thoo jaath || |
| He created the Universe, and by His Divine Nature, instilled His Divine Light into it. |

| ਸਬਦੁ ਵੀਚਾਰਿ ਮਿਲਣੁ ਨਹੀ ਭ੍ਰਾਤਿ ॥੭॥ |
| sabadh veechaar milan nehee bhraath ||7|| |
| One who reflects upon the Word of the Shabad, meets the Lord, without doubt. ||7|| |

| ਸੂਤਕੁ ਅਗਨਿ ਭਖੈ ਜਗੁ ਖਾਇ ॥ |
| soothak agan bhakhai jag khaae || |
| Pollution is the burning fire, which is consuming the world. |
|
| ਸੂਤਕੁ ਜਲਿ ਥਲਿ ਸਭ ਹੀ ਥਾਇ ॥ |
| soothak jal thhal sabh hee thhaae || |
| Pollution is in the water, upon the land, and everywhere. |
|
| ਨਾਨਕ ਸੂਤਕਿ ਜਨਮਿ ਮਰੀਜੈ ॥ |
| naanak soothak janam mareejai || |
| O Nanak, people are born and die in pollution. |
|
| ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਪੀਜੈ ॥੮॥੪॥ |
| gur parasaadhee har ras peejai ||8||4|| |
| By Guru's Grace, they drink in the Lord's sublime elixir. ||8||4|| |

| One who contemplates his own self, tests the worth of the jewel. |
|
| ਏਕ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਤਾਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰਾ ॥ |
| eaek dhrisatt thaarae gur pooraa || |
| With a single glance, the Perfect Guru saves him. |
|
| ਗੁਰੁ ਮਾਨੈ ਮਨ ਤੇ ਮਨੁ ਧੀਰਾ ॥੧॥ |
| gur maanai man thae man dhheeraa ||1|| |
| When the Guru is pleased, one's mind comforts itself. ||1|| |

| ਐਸਾ ਸਾਹੁ ਸਰਾਫੀ ਕਰੈ ॥ |
| aisaa saahu saraafee karai || |
| He is such a banker, who tests us. |

| ਸਾਚੀ ਨਦਰਿ ਏਕ ਲਿਵ ਤਰੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |

| By His True Glance of Grace, we are blessed with the Love of the One Lord, and are saved. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਪੂੰਜੀ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਰੰਜਨ ਸਾਰੁ ॥ |
| poonjee naam niranjan saar || |
| The capital of the Naam is immaculate and sublime. |
|
| ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਸਾਚਿ ਰਤਾ ਪੈਕਾਰੁ ॥ |
| niramal saach rathaa paikaar || |
| That peddler is rendered pure, who is imbued with the Truth. |
|
| ਸਿਫਤਿ ਸਹਜ ਘਰਿ ਗੁਰੁ ਕਰਤਾਰੁ ॥੨॥ |
| sifath sehaj ghar gur karathaar ||2|| |
| Praising the Lord, in the house of poise, he attains the Guru, the Creator. ||2|| |
|
| ਆਸਾ ਮਨਸਾ ਸਬਦਿ ਜਲਾਏ ॥ |
| aasaa manasaa sabadh jalaaeae || |
| One who burns away hope and desire through the Word of the Shabad, |
|
| ਰਾਮ ਨਰਾਇਣੁ ਕਹੈ ਕਹਾਏ ॥ |
| raam naraaein kehai kehaaeae || |
| chants the Lord's Name, and inspires others to chant it as well. |
|
| ਕੰਚਨ ਕਾਇਆ ਜੋਤਿ ਅਨੂਪੁ ॥ |
| kanchan kaaeiaa joth anoop || |
| His body becomes golden, by the Lord's Incomparable Light. |
|
| ਤ੍ਰਿਭਵਣ ਦੇਵਾ ਸਗਲ ਸਰੂਪੁ ॥ |
| thribhavan dhaevaa sagal saroop || |
| He beholds the divine beauty in all the three worlds. |
|
| ਮੈ ਸੋ ਧਨੁ ਪਲੈ ਸਾਚੁ ਅਖੂਟੁ ॥੪॥ |
| mai so dhhan palai saach akhoott ||4|| |
| That inexhaustible wealth of Truth is now in my lap. ||4|| |
|
| ਪੰਚ ਤੀਨਿ ਨਵ ਚਾਰਿ ਸਮਾਵੈ ॥ |
| panch theen nav chaar samaavai || |
| In the five elements, the three worlds, the nine regions and the four directions, the Lord is pervading. |
|
| ਧਰਣਿ ਗਗਨੁ ਕਲ ਧਾਰਿ ਰਹਾਵੈ ॥ |
| dhharan gagan kal dhhaar rehaavai || |
| He supports the earth and the sky, exercising His almighty power. |
|
| ਬਾਹਰਿ ਜਾਤਉ ਉਲਟਿ ਪਰਾਵੈ ॥੫॥ |
| baahar jaatho oulatt paraavai ||5|| |
| He turns the outgoing mind around. ||5|| |
|
| ਮੂਰਖੁ ਹੋਇ ਨ ਆਖੀ ਸੂਝੈ ॥ |
| moorakh hoe n aakhee soojhai || |
| The fool does not realize what he sees with his eyes. |
|
| ਜਿਹਵਾ ਰਸੁ ਨਹੀ ਕਹਿਆ ਬੂਝੈ ॥ |
| jihavaa ras nehee kehiaa boojhai || |
| He does not taste with his tongue, and does not understand what is said. |
|
| ਬਿਖੁ ਕਾ ਮਾਤਾ ਜਗ ਸਿਉ ਲੂਝੈ ॥੬॥ |
| bikh kaa maathaa jag sio loojhai ||6|| |
| Intoxicated with poison, he argues with the world. ||6|| |
|
| ਊਤਮ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਊਤਮੁ ਹੋਵੈ ॥ |
| ootham sangath ootham hovai || |
| In the uplifting society, one is uplifted. |
|
| ਗੁਣ ਕਉ ਧਾਵੈ ਅਵਗਣ ਧੋਵੈ ॥ |
| gun ko dhhaavai avagan dhhovai || |
| He chases after virtue and washes off his sins. |
|
| ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵੇ ਸਹਜੁ ਨ ਹੋਵੈ ॥੭॥ |
| bin gur saevae sehaj n hovai ||7|| |
| Without serving the Guru, celestial poise is not obtained. ||7|| |
|
| ਹੀਰਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਵੇਹਰ ਲਾਲੁ ॥ |
| heeraa naam javaehar laal || |
| The Naam, the Name of the Lord, is a diamond, a jewel, a ruby. |
|
| ਮਨੁ ਮੋਤੀ ਹੈ ਤਿਸ ਕਾ ਮਾਲੁ ॥ |
| man mothee hai this kaa maal || |
| The pearl of the mind is the inner wealth. |
|
| ਨਾਨਕ ਪਰਖੈ ਨਦਰਿ ਨਿਹਾਲੁ ॥੮॥੫॥ |
| naanak parakhai nadhar nihaal ||8||5|| |
| O Nanak, the Lord tests us, and blesses us with His Glance of Grace. ||8||5|| |

| The Gurmukh obtains spiritual wisdom, meditation and satisfaction of the mind. |

| ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮਹਲੀ ਮਹਲੁ ਪਛਾਨੁ ॥ |
| guramukh mehalee mehal pashhaan || |
| The Gurmukh realizes the Mansion of the Lord's Presence. |
|
| ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਨੀਸਾਨੁ ॥੧॥ |
| guramukh surath sabadh neesaan ||1|| |
| The Gurmukh is attuned to the Word of the Shabad, as his Insignia. ||1|| |

| Such is the loving devotional worship of the Lord's contemplation. |

| The Gurmukh realizes the True Name, the Destroyer of ego. ||1||Pause|| |

| ahinis niramal thhaan suthhaan || |
| Day and night, he remains immaculately pure, and abides in the sublime place. |

| ਤੀਨ ਭਵਨ ਨਿਹਕੇਵਲ ਗਿਆਨੁ ॥ |
| theen bhavan nihakaeval giaan || |
| He gains the wisdom of the three worlds. |
|
| ਸਾਚੇ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਪਛਾਨੁ ॥੨॥ |
| saachae gur thae hukam pashhaan ||2|| |
| Through the True Guru, the Command of the Lord's Will is realized. ||2|| |
|
| ਸਾਚਾ ਹਰਖੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਤਿਸੁ ਸੋਗੁ ॥ |
| saachaa harakh naahee this sog || |
| He enjoys true pleasure, and suffers no pain. |
|
| ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਮਹਾ ਰਸੁ ਭੋਗੁ ॥ |
| anmrith giaan mehaa ras bhog || |
| He enjoys the ambrosial wisdom, and the highest sublime essence. |
|
| ਪੰਚ ਸਮਾਈ ਸੁਖੀ ਸਭੁ ਲੋਗੁ ॥੩॥ |
| panch samaaee sukhee sabh log ||3|| |
| He overcomes the five evil passions, and becomes the happiest of all men. ||3|| |
|
| ਸਗਲੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਤੇਰਾ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਈ ॥ |
| sagalee joth thaeraa sabh koee || |
| Your Divine Light is contained in all; everyone belongs to You. |
|
| ਆਪੇ ਜੋੜਿ ਵਿਛੋੜੇ ਸੋਈ ॥ |
| aapae jorr vishhorrae soee || |
| You Yourself join and separate again. |
|
| ਆਪੇ ਕਰਤਾ ਕਰੇ ਸੁ ਹੋਈ ॥੪॥ |
| aapae karathaa karae s hoee ||4|| |
| Whatever the Creator does, comes to pass. ||4|| |
|
| ਢਾਹਿ ਉਸਾਰੇ ਹੁਕਮਿ ਸਮਾਵੈ ॥ |
| dtaahi ousaarae hukam samaavai || |
| He demolishes, and He builds; by His Order, he merges us into Himself. |
|
| ਹੁਕਮੋ ਵਰਤੈ ਜੋ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ॥ |
| hukamo varathai jo this bhaavai || |
| Whatever is pleasing to His Will, happens. |
|
| ਗੁਰ ਬਿਨੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਪਾਵੈ ॥੫॥ |
| gur bin pooraa koe n paavai ||5|| |
| Without the Guru, no one obtains the Perfect Lord. ||5|| |
