| The True Lord conquers and overcomes the tortures of death. ||2|| |

| ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਕਰਮਾ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਧਰਮਾ ॥ |
| eihu man karamaa eihu man dhharamaa || |
| This mind commits its deeds of karma, and this mind follows the Dharma. |
|
| ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਪੰਚ ਤਤੁ ਤੇ ਜਨਮਾ ॥ |
| eihu man panch thath thae janamaa || |
| This mind is born of the five elements. |
|
| ਸਾਕਤੁ ਲੋਭੀ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਮੂੜਾ ॥ |
| saakath lobhee eihu man moorraa || |
| This foolish mind is perverted and greedy. |
|
| ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪੈ ਮਨੁ ਰੂੜਾ ॥੩॥ |
| guramukh naam japai man roorraa ||3|| |
| Chanting the Naam, the mind of the Gurmukh becomes beautiful. ||3|| |

| ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮਨੁ ਅਸਥਾਨੇ ਸੋਈ ॥ |
| guramukh man asathhaanae soee || |
| The mind of the Gurmukh finds the Lord's home. |
|
| ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਭਵਣਿ ਸੋਝੀ ਹੋਈ ॥ |
| guramukh thribhavan sojhee hoee || |
| The Gurmukh comes to know the three worlds. |
|
| ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਜੋਗੀ ਭੋਗੀ ਤਪੁ ਤਾਪੈ ॥ |
| eihu man jogee bhogee thap thaapai || |
| This mind is a Yogi, an enjoyer, a practicer of austerities. |
|
| ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਚੀਨ੍ਹ੍ਹੈ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਆਪੈ ॥੪॥ |

| The Gurmukh understands the Lord God Himself. ||4|| |

| ਮਨੁ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ਹਉਮੈ ਤਿਆਗੀ ॥ |
| man bairaagee houmai thiaagee || |
| This mind is a detached renunciate, forsaking egotism. |
|
| ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਮਨਸਾ ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਲਾਗੀ ॥ |
| ghatt ghatt manasaa dhubidhhaa laagee || |
| Desire and duality afflict each and every heart. |
|
| ਰਾਮ ਰਸਾਇਣੁ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਚਾਖੈ ॥ |
| raam rasaaein guramukh chaakhai || |
| The Gurmukh drinks in the Lord's sublime essence; |
|
| ਦਰਿ ਘਰਿ ਮਹਲੀ ਹਰਿ ਪਤਿ ਰਾਖੈ ॥੫॥ |
| dhar ghar mehalee har path raakhai ||5|| |
| at His Door, in the Mansion of the Lord's Presence, He preserves his honor. ||5|| |

| ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਰਾਜਾ ਸੂਰ ਸੰਗ੍ਰਾਮਿ ॥ |
| eihu man raajaa soor sangraam || |
| This mind is the king, the hero of cosmic battles. |
|
| ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮਿ ॥ |
| eihu man nirabho guramukh naam || |
| The mind of the Gurmukh becomes fearless through the Naam. |
|
| ਮਾਰੇ ਪੰਚ ਅਪੁਨੈ ਵਸਿ ਕੀਏ ॥ |
| maarae panch apunai vas keeeae || |
| Overpowering and subduing the five passions, |
|
| ਹਉਮੈ ਗ੍ਰਾਸਿ ਇਕਤੁ ਥਾਇ ਕੀਏ ॥੬॥ |
| houmai graas eikath thhaae keeeae ||6|| |
| holding ego in its grip, it confines them to one place. ||6|| |
|
| ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਰਾਗ ਸੁਆਦ ਅਨ ਤਿਆਗੇ ॥ |

| The Gurmukh renounces other songs and tastes. |
|
| ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਭਗਤੀ ਜਾਗੇ ॥ |

| The mind of the Gurmukh is awakened to devotion. |
|
| ਅਨਹਦ ਸੁਣਿ ਮਾਨਿਆ ਸਬਦੁ ਵੀਚਾਰੀ ॥ |
| anehadh sun maaniaa sabadh veechaaree || |
| Hearing the unstruck music of the sound current, this mind contemplates the Shabad, and accepts it. |

| ਆਤਮੁ ਚੀਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ ਭਏ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰੀ ॥੭॥ |
| aatham cheenih bheae nirankaaree ||7|| |
| Understanding itself, this soul becomes attuned to the Formless Lord. ||7|| |

| ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਦਰਿ ਘਰਿ ਸੋਈ ॥ |
| eihu man niramal dhar ghar soee || |
| This mind becomes immaculately pure, in the Court and the Home of the Lord. |

| ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਭਾਉ ਧੁਨਿ ਹੋਈ ॥ |

| The Gurmukh shows his love through loving devotional worship. |
|
| ਅਹਿਨਿਸਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਸੁ ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦਿ ॥ |

| Night and day, by Guru's Grace, sing the Lord's Praises. |

| ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਸੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਆਦਿ ਜੁਗਾਦਿ ॥੮॥ |
| ghatt ghatt so prabh aadh jugaadh ||8|| |
| God dwells in each and every heart, since the very beginning of time, and throughout the ages. ||8|| |

| ਰਾਮ ਰਸਾਇਣਿ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਤਾ ॥ |
| raam rasaaein eihu man maathaa || |
| This mind is intoxicated with the sublime essence of the Lord; |

| ਸਰਬ ਰਸਾਇਣੁ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜਾਤਾ ॥ |
| sarab rasaaein guramukh jaathaa || |
| The Gurmukh realizes the essence of totality. |

| ਭਗਤਿ ਹੇਤੁ ਗੁਰ ਚਰਣ ਨਿਵਾਸਾ ॥ |

| For the sake of devotional worship, he dwells at the Guru's Feet. |

| Without the Guru, how can the Lord's Name be obtained? |

| ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਧਨੁ ਸੰਗਿ ਸਖਾਈ ॥ |
| raam naam dhhan sang sakhaaee || |
| The wealth of the Lord's Name is my Companion and Helper. |

| ਅਹਿਨਿਸਿ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਹਰਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਈ ॥੧॥ |

| Night and day, center your loving attention on the Immaculate Lord. ||1|| |

| Without the Lord's Name, who is ours? |

| ਸੁਖ ਦੁਖ ਸਮ ਕਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਛੋਡਉ ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਹਾਰਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| sukh dhukh sam kar naam n shhoddo aapae bakhas milaavanehaaraa ||1|| rehaao || |
| I look upon pleasure and pain alike; I shall not forsake the Naam, the Name of the Lord. The Lord Himself forgives me, and blends me with Himself. ||1||Pause|| |

| The fool loves gold and women. |
|
| ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਲਾਗੇ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਿਸਾਰਾ ॥ |
| dhubidhhaa laagae naam visaaraa || |
| Attached to duality, he has forgotten the Naam. |
|
| ਜਿਸੁ ਤੂੰ ਬਖਸਹਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਾਇ ॥ |
| jis thoon bakhasehi naam japaae || |
| O Lord, he alone chants the Naam, whom You have forgiven. |

| ਦੂਤੁ ਨ ਲਾਗਿ ਸਕੈ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਇ ॥੨॥ |

| Death cannot touch one who sings the Glorious Praises of the Lord. ||2|| |

| ਹਰਿ ਗੁਰੁ ਦਾਤਾ ਰਾਮ ਗੁਪਾਲਾ ॥ |

| The Lord, the Guru, is the Giver; the Lord, the Sustainer of the World. |
|
| ਜਿਉ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਉ ਰਾਖੁ ਦਇਆਲਾ ॥ |
| jio bhaavai thio raakh dhaeiaalaa || |
| If it is pleasing to Your Will, please preserve me, O Merciful Lord. |

| ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਰਾਮੁ ਮੇਰੈ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਇਆ ॥ |

| As Gurmukh, my mind is pleased with the Lord. |

| ਰੋਗ ਮਿਟੇ ਦੁਖੁ ਠਾਕਿ ਰਹਾਇਆ ॥੩॥ |
| rog mittae dhukh thaak rehaaeiaa ||3|| |
| My diseases are cured, and my pains are taken away. ||3|| |

| ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਅਉਖਧੁ ਤੰਤ ਨ ਮੰਤਾ ॥ |
| avar n aoukhadhh thanth n manthaa || |
| There is no other medicine, Tantric charm or mantra. |
|
| ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਣੁ ਕਿਲਵਿਖ ਹੰਤਾ ॥ |
| har har simaran kilavikh hanthaa || |
| Meditative remembrance upon the Lord, Har, Har, destroys sins. |
|
| ਤੂੰ ਆਪਿ ਭੁਲਾਵਹਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਿਸਾਰਿ ॥ |
| thoon aap bhulaavehi naam visaar || |
| You Yourself cause us to stray from the path, and forget the Naam. |
|
| ਤੂੰ ਆਪੇ ਰਾਖਹਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰਿ ॥੪॥ |
| thoon aapae raakhehi kirapaa dhhaar ||4|| |
| Showering Your Mercy, You Yourself save us. ||4|| |

| ਰੋਗੁ ਭਰਮੁ ਭੇਦੁ ਮਨਿ ਦੂਜਾ ॥ |
| rog bharam bhaedh man dhoojaa || |
| The mind is diseased with doubt, superstition and duality. |
|
| ਗੁਰ ਬਿਨੁ ਭਰਮਿ ਜਪਹਿ ਜਪੁ ਦੂਜਾ ॥ |
| gur bin bharam japehi jap dhoojaa || |
| Without the Guru, it dwells in doubt, and contemplates duality. |
