| Peace emanates from the Guru; He puts out the fire of desire. |

| The Naam, the Name of the Lord, is obtained from the Guru; it is the greatest greatness. ||1|| |

| Keep the One Name in your consciousness, O my Siblings of Destiny. |

| ਜਗਤੁ ਜਲੰਦਾ ਦੇਖਿ ਕੈ ਭਜਿ ਪਏ ਸਰਣਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |

| Seeing the world on fire, I have hurried to the Lord's Sanctuary. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਊਪਜੈ ਮਹਾ ਤਤੁ ਬੀਚਾਰਾ ॥ |

| Spiritual wisdom emanates from the Guru; reflect upon the supreme essence of reality. |

| ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਘਰੁ ਦਰੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਭਗਤੀ ਭਰੇ ਭੰਡਾਰਾ ॥੨॥ |

| Through the Guru, the Lord's Mansion and His Court are attained; His devotional worship is overflowing with treasures. ||2|| |

| ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਈਐ ਬੂਝੈ ਵੀਚਾਰਾ ॥ |

| The Gurmukh meditates on the Naam; he achieves reflective meditation and understanding. |

| ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਸਲਾਹ ਹੈ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥੩॥ |
| guramukh bhagath salaah hai anthar sabadh apaaraa ||3|| |
| The Gurmukh is the Lord's devotee, immersed in His Praises; the Infinite Word of the Shabad dwells within him. ||3|| |

| ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸੂਖੁ ਊਪਜੈ ਦੁਖੁ ਕਦੇ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥ |
| guramukh sookh oopajai dhukh kadhae n hoee || |
| Happiness emanates from the Gurmukh; he never suffers pain. |

| ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰੀਐ ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਹੋਈ ॥੪॥ |
| guramukh houmai maareeai man niramal hoee ||4|| |
| The Gurmukh conquers his ego, and his mind is immaculately pure. ||4|| |
|
| ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਆਪੁ ਗਇਆ ਤ੍ਰਿਭਵਣ ਸੋਝੀ ਪਾਈ ॥ |
| sathigur miliai aap gaeiaa thribhavan sojhee paaee || |
| Meeting the True Guru, self-conceit is removed, and understanding of the three worlds is obtained. |

| ਨਿਰਮਲ ਜੋਤਿ ਪਸਰਿ ਰਹੀ ਜੋਤੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਮਿਲਾਈ ॥੫॥ |
| niramal joth pasar rehee jothee joth milaaee ||5|| |
| The Immaculate Divine Light is pervading and permeating everywhere; one's light merges into the Light. ||5|| |
|
| ਪੂਰੈ ਗੁਰਿ ਸਮਝਾਇਆ ਮਤਿ ਊਤਮ ਹੋਈ ॥ |
| poorai gur samajhaaeiaa math ootham hoee || |
| The Perfect Guru instructs, and one's intellect becomes sublime. |
|
| ਅੰਤਰੁ ਸੀਤਲੁ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਹੋਇ ਨਾਮੇ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਈ ॥੬॥ |
| anthar seethal saanth hoe naamae sukh hoee ||6|| |
| A cooling and soothing peace comes within, and through the Naam, peace is obtained. ||6|| |

| ਪੂਰਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਤਾਂ ਮਿਲੈ ਜਾਂ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇਈ ॥ |
| pooraa sathigur thaan milai jaan nadhar karaeee || |
| One meets the Perfect True Guru only when the Lord bestows His Glance of Grace. |

| ਆਪਣੈ ਹਥਿ ਵਡਿਆਈਆ ਦੇ ਨਾਮੇ ਲਾਏ ॥ |
| aapanai hathh vaddiaaeeaa dhae naamae laaeae || |
| Glory is in His Hands; He bestows His Name, and attaches us to it. |

| ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਮਨਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਪਾਏ ॥੮॥੪॥੨੬॥ |

| O Nanak, the treasure of the Naam abides within the mind, and glory is obtained. ||8||4||26|| |

| Listen, O mortal: enshrine His Name within your mind; He shall come to meet with you, O my Sibling of Destiny. |

| ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਸਚੀ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਸਚੈ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਈ ॥੧॥ |
| anadhin sachee bhagath kar sachai chith laaee ||1|| |
| Night and day, center your consciousness on true devotional worship of the True Lord. ||1|| |
|
| ਏਕੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇ ਤੂੰ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਮੇਰੇ ਭਾਈ ॥ |
| eaeko naam dhhiaae thoon sukh paavehi maerae bhaaee || |
| Meditate on the One Naam, and you shall find peace, O my Siblings of Destiny. |

| ਹਉਮੈ ਦੂਜਾ ਦੂਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਵਡੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| houmai dhoojaa dhoor kar vaddee vaddiaaee ||1|| rehaao || |
| Eradicate egotism and duality, and your glory shall be glorious. ||1||Pause|| |
|
| ਇਸੁ ਭਗਤੀ ਨੋ ਸੁਰਿ ਨਰ ਮੁਨਿ ਜਨ ਲੋਚਦੇ ਵਿਣੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪਾਈ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥ |
| eis bhagathee no sur nar mun jan lochadhae vin sathigur paaee n jaae || |
| The angels, humans and silent sages long for this devotional worship, but without the True Guru, it cannot be attained. |

| ਪੰਡਿਤ ਪੜਦੇ ਜੋਤਿਕੀ ਤਿਨ ਬੂਝ ਨ ਪਾਇ ॥੨॥ |
| panddith parradhae jothikee thin boojh n paae ||2|| |
| The Pandits, the religious scholars, and the astrologers read their books, but they do not understand. ||2|| |
|
| ਆਪੈ ਥੈ ਸਭੁ ਰਖਿਓਨੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਹਣੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥ |
| aapai thhai sabh rakhioun kishh kehan n jaaee || |
| He Himself keeps all in His Hand; nothing else can be said. |
|
| ਆਪੇ ਦੇਇ ਸੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਗੁਰਿ ਬੂਝ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥੩॥ |
| aapae dhaee s paaeeai gur boojh bujhaaee ||3|| |
| Whatever He gives, is received. The Guru has imparted this understanding to me. ||3|| |
|
| ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਸਭਿ ਤਿਸ ਦੇ ਸਭਨਾ ਕਾ ਸੋਈ ॥ |
| jeea janth sabh this dhae sabhanaa kaa soee || |
| All beings and creatures are His; He belongs to all. |
|
| ਮੰਦਾ ਕਿਸ ਨੋ ਆਖੀਐ ਜੇ ਦੂਜਾ ਹੋਈ ॥੪॥ |
| mandhaa kis no aakheeai jae dhoojaa hoee ||4|| |
| So who can we call bad, since there is no other? ||4|| |
|
| ਇਕੋ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਵਰਤਦਾ ਏਕਾ ਸਿਰਿ ਕਾਰਾ ॥ |
| eiko hukam varathadhaa eaekaa sir kaaraa || |
| The Command of the One Lord is pervading throughout; duty to the One Lord is upon the heads of all. |
|
| ਆਪਿ ਭਵਾਲੀ ਦਿਤੀਅਨੁ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਲੋਭੁ ਵਿਕਾਰਾ ॥੫॥ |
| aap bhavaalee dhitheean anthar lobh vikaaraa ||5|| |
| He Himself has led them astray, and placed greed and corruption within their hearts. ||5|| |
|
| ਇਕ ਆਪੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਕੀਤਿਅਨੁ ਬੂਝਨਿ ਵੀਚਾਰਾ ॥ |
| eik aapae guramukh keethian boojhan veechaaraa || |
| He has sanctified those few Gurmukhs who understand Him, and reflect upon Him. |
|
| ਭਗਤਿ ਭੀ ਓਨਾ ਨੋ ਬਖਸੀਅਨੁ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਭੰਡਾਰਾ ॥੬॥ |
| bhagath bhee ounaa no bakhaseean anthar bhanddaaraa ||6|| |
| He grants devotional worship to them, and within them is the treasure. ||6|| |
|
| ਗਿਆਨੀਆ ਨੋ ਸਭੁ ਸਚੁ ਹੈ ਸਚੁ ਸੋਝੀ ਹੋਈ ॥ |
| giaaneeaa no sabh sach hai sach sojhee hoee || |
| The spiritual teachers know nothing but the Truth; they obtain true understanding. |
|
| ਓਇ ਭੁਲਾਏ ਕਿਸੈ ਦੇ ਨ ਭੁਲਨ੍ਹ੍ਹੀ ਸਚੁ ਜਾਣਨਿ ਸੋਈ ॥੭॥ |
| oue bhulaaeae kisai dhae n bhulanhee sach jaanan soee ||7|| |
| They are led astray by Him, but they do not go astray, because they know the True Lord. ||7|| |
|
| ਘਰ ਮਹਿ ਪੰਚ ਵਰਤਦੇ ਪੰਚੇ ਵੀਚਾਰੀ ॥ |
| ghar mehi panch varathadhae panchae veechaaree || |
| Within the homes of their bodies, the five passions are pervading, but here, the five are well-behaved. |

| ਨਾਨਕ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਵਸਿ ਨ ਆਵਨ੍ਹ੍ਹੀ ਨਾਮਿ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰੀ ॥੮॥੫॥੨੭॥ |
| naanak bin sathigur vas n aavanhee naam houmai maaree ||8||5||27|| |
| O Nanak, without the True Guru, they are not overcome; through the Naam, the ego is conquered. ||8||5||27|| |

| Everything is within the home of your own self; there is nothing beyond it. |
|
| ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਪਾਈਐ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਕਪਟ ਖੁਲਾਹੀ ॥੧॥ |
| gur parasaadhee paaeeai anthar kapatt khulaahee ||1|| |
| By Guru's Grace, it is obtained, and the doors of the inner heart are opened wide. ||1|| |

| ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਈਐ ਭਾਈ ॥ |
| sathigur thae har paaeeai bhaaee || |
| From the True Guru, the Lord's Name is obtained, O Siblings of Destiny. |

| ਅੰਤਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਹੈ ਪੂਰੈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਦੀਆ ਦਿਖਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| anthar naam nidhhaan hai poorai sathigur dheeaa dhikhaaee ||1|| rehaao || |
| The treasure of the Naam is within; the Perfect True Guru has shown this to me. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਗਾਹਕੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੋ ਲਏ ਪਾਏ ਰਤਨੁ ਵੀਚਾਰਾ ॥ |
| har kaa gaahak hovai so leae paaeae rathan veechaaraa || |
| One who is a buyer of the Lord's Name, finds it, and obtains the jewel of contemplation. |

| ਅੰਦਰੁ ਖੋਲੈ ਦਿਬ ਦਿਸਟਿ ਦੇਖੈ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਭੰਡਾਰਾ ॥੨॥ |
| andhar kholai dhib dhisatt dhaekhai mukath bhanddaaraa ||2|| |
| He opens the doors deep within, and through the Eyes of Divine Vision, beholds the treasure of liberation. ||2|| |
|
| ਅੰਦਰਿ ਮਹਲ ਅਨੇਕ ਹਹਿ ਜੀਉ ਕਰੇ ਵਸੇਰਾ ॥ |
| andhar mehal anaek hehi jeeo karae vasaeraa || |
| There are so many mansions within the body; the soul dwells within them. |
|
| ਮਨ ਚਿੰਦਿਆ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਇਸੀ ਫਿਰਿ ਹੋਇ ਨ ਫੇਰਾ ॥੩॥ |
| man chindhiaa fal paaeisee fir hoe n faeraa ||3|| |
| He obtains the fruits of his mind's desires, and he shall not have to go through reincarnation again. ||3|| |
|
| ਪਾਰਖੀਆ ਵਥੁ ਸਮਾਲਿ ਲਈ ਗੁਰ ਸੋਝੀ ਹੋਈ ॥ |
| paarakheeaa vathh samaal lee gur sojhee hoee || |
| The appraisers cherish the commodity of the Name; they obtain understanding from the Guru. |

| ਨਾਮੁ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਅਮੁਲੁ ਸਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਾਵੈ ਕੋਈ ॥੪॥ |
| naam padhaarathh amul saa guramukh paavai koee ||4|| |
| The wealth of the Naam is priceless; how few are the Gurmukhs who obtain it. ||4|| |
