| gur paaras miliai kanchan hoeae niramal joth apaar ||2|| |
| But meeting with the Guru, the Philosopher's Stone, I am transformed into gold; I am blended with the Pure Light of the Infinite Lord. ||2|| |

| ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਰੰਗੀਐ ਗੁਰਿ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਰੰਗੁ ਚੜਾਉ ॥ |
| bin gur koe n rangeeai gur miliai rang charraao || |
| Without the Guru, no one is imbued with the color of the Lord's Love; meeting with the Guru, this color is applied. |

| ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਭੈ ਭਾਇ ਜੋ ਰਤੇ ਸਿਫਤੀ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਉ ॥੩॥ |
| gur kai bhai bhaae jo rathae sifathee sach samaao ||3|| |
| Those who are imbued with the Fear, and the Love of the Guru, are absorbed in the Praise of the True Lord. ||3|| |
|
| ਭੈ ਬਿਨੁ ਲਾਗਿ ਨ ਲਗਈ ਨਾ ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਹੋਇ ॥ |
| bhai bin laag n lagee naa man niramal hoe || |
| Without fear, the cloth is not dyed, and the mind is not rendered pure. |

| ਬਿਨੁ ਭੈ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਵਣੇ ਝੂਠੇ ਠਾਉ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥੪॥ |
| bin bhai karam kamaavanae jhoothae thaao n koe ||4|| |
| Without fear, the performance of rituals is false, and one finds no place of rest. ||4|| |
|
| ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਆਪੇ ਰੰਗੇ ਸੁ ਰਪਸੀ ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥ |
| jis no aapae rangae s rapasee sathasangath milaae || |
| Only those whom the Lord imbues, are so imbued; they join the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation. |

| ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਊਪਜੈ ਸਹਜੇ ਸਚਿ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥੫॥ |
| poorae gur thae sathasangath oopajai sehajae sach subhaae ||5|| |
| From the Perfect Guru, the Sat Sangat emanates, and one easily merges into the Love of the True One. ||5|| |
|
| ਬਿਨੁ ਸੰਗਤੀ ਸਭਿ ਐਸੇ ਰਹਹਿ ਜੈਸੇ ਪਸੁ ਢੋਰ ॥ |
| bin sangathee sabh aisae rehehi jaisae pas dtor || |
| Without the Sangat, the Company of the Holy, all remain like beasts and animals. |

| ਜਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ ਕੀਤੇ ਤਿਸੈ ਨ ਜਾਣਨ੍ਹ੍ਹੀ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਸਭਿ ਚੋਰ ॥੬॥ |
| jinih keethae thisai n jaananhee bin naavai sabh chor ||6|| |
| They do not know the One who created them; without the Name, all are thieves. ||6|| |
|
| ਇਕਿ ਗੁਣ ਵਿਹਾਝਹਿ ਅਉਗਣ ਵਿਕਣਹਿ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥ |
| eik gun vihaajhehi aougan vikanehi gur kai sehaj subhaae || |
| Some purchase merits and sell off their demerits; through the Guru, they obtain peace and poise. |

| ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਤੇ ਨਾਉ ਪਾਇਆ ਵੁਠਾ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਆਇ ॥੭॥ |
| gur saevaa thae naao paaeiaa vuthaa andhar aae ||7|| |
| Serving the Guru, they obtain the Name, which comes to dwell deep within. ||7|| |
|
| ਸਭਨਾ ਕਾ ਦਾਤਾ ਏਕੁ ਹੈ ਸਿਰਿ ਧੰਧੈ ਲਾਇ ॥ |
| sabhanaa kaa dhaathaa eaek hai sir dhhandhhai laae || |
| The One Lord is the Giver of all; He assigns tasks to each and every person. |

| ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੇ ਲਾਇ ਸਵਾਰਿਅਨੁ ਸਬਦੇ ਲਏ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥੮॥੯॥੩੧॥ |
| naanak naamae laae savaarian sabadhae leae milaae ||8||9||31|| |
| O Nanak, the Lord embellishes us with the Name; attached to the Word of the Shabad, we are merged into Him. ||8||9||31|| |

| ਸਭ ਨਾਵੈ ਨੋ ਲੋਚਦੀ ਜਿਸੁ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰੇ ਸੋ ਪਾਏ ॥ |
| sabh naavai no lochadhee jis kirapaa karae so paaeae || |
| Everyone longs for the Name, but he alone receives it, unto whom the Lord shows His Mercy. |

| ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਸਭੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਹੈ ਸੁਖੁ ਤਿਸੁ ਜਿਸੁ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਏ ॥੧॥ |
| bin naavai sabh dhukh hai sukh this jis mann vasaaeae ||1|| |
| Without the Name, there is only pain; he alone obtains peace, whose mind is filled with the Name. ||1|| |

| ਤੂੰ ਬੇਅੰਤੁ ਦਇਆਲੁ ਹੈ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਣਾਈ ॥ |
| thoon baeanth dhaeiaal hai thaeree saranaaee || |
| You are infinite and merciful; I seek Your Sanctuary. |

| From the Perfect Guru, the glorious greatness of the Naam is obtained. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਅੰਤਰਿ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਏਕੁ ਹੈ ਬਹੁ ਬਿਧਿ ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਉਪਾਈ ॥ |
| anthar baahar eaek hai bahu bidhh srisatt oupaaee || |
| Inwardly and outwardly, there is only the One Lord. He has created the world, with its many varieties. |

| ਹੁਕਮੇ ਕਾਰ ਕਰਾਇਦਾ ਦੂਜਾ ਕਿਸੁ ਕਹੀਐ ਭਾਈ ॥੨॥ |
| hukamae kaar karaaeidhaa dhoojaa kis keheeai bhaaee ||2|| |
| According to the Order of His Will, He makes us act. What else can we talk about, O Siblings of Destiny? ||2|| |

| ਬੁਝਣਾ ਅਬੁਝਣਾ ਤੁਧੁ ਕੀਆ ਇਹ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਿਰਿ ਕਾਰ ॥ |
| bujhanaa abujhanaa thudhh keeaa eih thaeree sir kaar || |
| Knowledge and ignorance are all your making; You have control over these. |

| ਇਕਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਾ ਬਖਸਿਹਿ ਮੇਲਿ ਲੈਹਿ ਇਕਿ ਦਰਗਹ ਮਾਰਿ ਕਢੇ ਕੂੜਿਆਰ ॥੩॥ |
| eikanhaa bakhasihi mael laihi eik dharageh maar kadtae koorriaar ||3|| |
| Some, You forgive, and unite with Yourself; while others, the wicked, you strike down and drive out of Your Court. ||3|| |
|
| ਇਕਿ ਧੁਰਿ ਪਵਿਤ ਪਾਵਨ ਹਹਿ ਤੁਧੁ ਨਾਮੇ ਲਾਏ ॥ |
| eik dhhur pavith paavan hehi thudhh naamae laaeae || |
| Some, from the very beginning, are pure and pious; You attach them to Your Name. |

| ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਤੇ ਸੁਖੁ ਊਪਜੈ ਸਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਬੁਝਾਏ ॥੪॥ |
| gur saevaa thae sukh oopajai sachai sabadh bujhaaeae ||4|| |
| Serving the Guru, peace wells up; through the True Word of the Shabad, one comes to understand. ||4|| |

| ਇਕਿ ਕੁਚਲ ਕੁਚੀਲ ਵਿਖਲੀ ਪਤੇ ਨਾਵਹੁ ਆਪਿ ਖੁਆਏ ॥ |
| eik kuchal kucheel vikhalee pathae naavahu aap khuaaeae || |
| Some are crooked, filthy and vicious; the Lord Himself has led them astray from the Name. |

| ਨਾ ਓਨ ਸਿਧਿ ਨ ਬੁਧਿ ਹੈ ਨ ਸੰਜਮੀ ਫਿਰਹਿ ਉਤਵਤਾਏ ॥੫॥ |
| naa oun sidhh n budhh hai n sanjamee firehi outhavathaaeae ||5|| |
| They have no intuition, no understanding and no self-discipline; they wander around delirious. ||5|| |
|
| ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਜਿਸੁ ਆਪਣੀ ਤਿਸ ਨੋ ਭਾਵਨੀ ਲਾਏ ॥ |
| nadhar karae jis aapanee this no bhaavanee laaeae || |
| He grants faith to those whom He has blessed with His Glance of Grace. |
|
| ਸਤੁ ਸੰਤੋਖੁ ਇਹ ਸੰਜਮੀ ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਸਬਦੁ ਸੁਣਾਏ ॥੬॥ |
| sath santhokh eih sanjamee man niramal sabadh sunaaeae ||6|| |
| This mind finds truth, contentment and self-discipline, hearing the Immaculate Word of the Shabad. ||6|| |
|
| ਲੇਖਾ ਪੜਿ ਨ ਪਹੂਚੀਐ ਕਥਿ ਕਹਣੈ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਇ ॥ |
| laekhaa parr n pehoocheeai kathh kehanai anth n paae || |
| By reading books, one cannot reach Him; by speaking and talking, His limits cannot be found. |

| ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਪਾਈਐ ਸਚਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੋਝੀ ਪਾਇ ॥੭॥ |
| gur thae keemath paaeeai sach sabadh sojhee paae ||7|| |
| Through the Guru, His value is found; through the True Word of the Shabad, understanding is obtained. ||7|| |

| ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਦੇਹੀ ਸੋਧਿ ਤੂੰ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਵੀਚਾਰਿ ॥ |
| eihu man dhaehee sodhh thoon gur sabadh veechaar || |
| So reform this mind and body, by contemplating the Word of the Guru's Shabad. |

| ਨਾਨਕ ਇਸੁ ਦੇਹੀ ਵਿਚਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਹੈ ਪਾਈਐ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਹੇਤਿ ਅਪਾਰਿ ॥੮॥੧੦॥੩੨॥ |
| naanak eis dhaehee vich naam nidhhaan hai paaeeai gur kai haeth apaar ||8||10||32|| |
| O Nanak, within this body is the treasure of the Naam, the Name of the Lord; it is found through the Love of the Infinite Guru. ||8||10||32|| |

| ghar hee so pir paaeiaa sachai sabadh veechaar ||1|| |
| They find their Husband Lord within their own home, contemplating the True Word of the Shabad. ||1|| |
|
| ਅਵਗਣ ਗੁਣੀ ਬਖਸਾਇਆ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਉ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਈ ॥ |
| avagan gunee bakhasaaeiaa har sio liv laaee || |
| Through merits, their demerits are forgiven, and they embrace love for the Lord. |

| ਹਰਿ ਵਰੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਕਾਮਣੀ ਗੁਰਿ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| har var paaeiaa kaamanee gur mael milaaee ||1|| rehaao || |
| The soul-bride then obtains the Lord as her Husband; meeting the Guru, this union comes about. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਇਕਿ ਪਿਰੁ ਹਦੂਰਿ ਨ ਜਾਣਨ੍ਹ੍ਹੀ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਇ ॥ |
| eik pir hadhoor n jaananhee dhoojai bharam bhulaae || |
| Some do not know the Presence of their Husband Lord; they are deluded by duality and doubt. |
|
| ਕਿਉ ਪਾਇਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ ਡੋਹਾਗਣੀ ਦੁਖੀ ਰੈਣਿ ਵਿਹਾਇ ॥੨॥ |
| kio paaeinih ddohaaganee dhukhee rain vihaae ||2|| |
| How can the forsaken brides meet Him? Their life night passes in pain. ||2|| |
|
| ਜਿਨ ਕੈ ਮਨਿ ਸਚੁ ਵਸਿਆ ਸਚੀ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਇ ॥ |
| jin kai man sach vasiaa sachee kaar kamaae || |
| Those whose minds are filled with the True Lord, perform truthful actions. |
|
| ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਸਹਜ ਸਿਉ ਸਚੇ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੩॥ |
| anadhin saevehi sehaj sio sachae maahi samaae ||3|| |
| Night and day, they serve the Lord with poise, and are absorbed in the True Lord. ||3|| |
|
| ਦੋਹਾਗਣੀ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਈਆ ਕੂੜੁ ਬੋਲਿ ਬਿਖੁ ਖਾਹਿ ॥ |
| dhohaaganee bharam bhulaaeeaa koorr bol bikh khaahi || |
| The forsaken brides wander around, deluded by doubt; telling lies, they eat poison. |
|
| ਪਿਰੁ ਨ ਜਾਣਨਿ ਆਪਣਾ ਸੁੰਞੀ ਸੇਜ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਹਿ ॥੪॥ |
| pir n jaanan aapanaa sunnjee saej dhukh paahi ||4|| |
| They do not know their Husband Lord, and upon their deserted bed, they suffer in misery. ||4|| |
|
| ਸਚਾ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਏਕੁ ਹੈ ਮਤੁ ਮਨ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਹਿ ॥ |
| sachaa saahib eaek hai math man bharam bhulaahi || |
| The True Lord is the One and only; do not be deluded by doubt, O my mind. |
|
| ਗੁਰ ਪੂਛਿ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਹਿ ਸਚੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਹਿ ॥੫॥ |
| gur pooshh saevaa karehi sach niramal mann vasaahi ||5|| |
| Consult with the Guru, serve the True Lord, and enshrine the Immaculate Truth within your mind. ||5|| |
|
| ਸੋਹਾਗਣੀ ਸਦਾ ਪਿਰੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਹਉਮੈ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਇ ॥ |
| sohaaganee sadhaa pir paaeiaa houmai aap gavaae || |
| The happy soul-bride always finds her Husband Lord; she banishes egotism and self-conceit. |

| ਪਿਰ ਸੇਤੀ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਗਹਿ ਰਹੀ ਸਚੀ ਸੇਜ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇ ॥੬॥ |
| pir saethee anadhin gehi rehee sachee saej sukh paae ||6|| |
| She remains attached to her Husband Lord, night and day, and she finds peace upon His Bed of Truth. ||6|| |
|
| ਮੇਰੀ ਮੇਰੀ ਕਰਿ ਗਏ ਪਲੈ ਕਿਛੁ ਨ ਪਾਇ ॥ |
| maeree maeree kar geae palai kishh n paae || |
| Those who shouted, ""Mine, mine!"" have departed, without obtaining anything. |

| ਮਹਲੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਡੋਹਾਗਣੀ ਅੰਤਿ ਗਈ ਪਛੁਤਾਇ ॥੭॥ |
| mehal naahee ddohaaganee anth gee pashhuthaae ||7|| |
| The separated one does not obtain the Mansion of the Lord's Presence, and departs, repenting in the end. ||7|| |
|
| ਸੋ ਪਿਰੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਏਕੁ ਹੈ ਏਕਸੁ ਸਿਉ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥ |
| so pir maeraa eaek hai eaekas sio liv laae || |
| That Husband Lord of mine is the One and only; I am in love with the One alone. |

| ਨਾਨਕ ਜੇ ਸੁਖੁ ਲੋੜਹਿ ਕਾਮਣੀ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਇ ॥੮॥੧੧॥੩੩॥ |
| naanak jae sukh lorrehi kaamanee har kaa naam mann vasaae ||8||11||33|| |
| O Nanak, if the soul-bride longs for peace, she should enshrine the Lord's Name within her mind. ||8||11||33|| |
