O my mind, there is no other as great as the Guru. |

ਦੂਜਾ ਥਾਉ ਨ ਕੋ ਸੁਝੈ ਗੁਰ ਮੇਲੇ ਸਚੁ ਸੋਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
dhoojaa thhaao n ko sujhai gur maelae sach soe ||1|| rehaao || |
I cannot imagine any other place. The Guru leads me to meet the True Lord. ||1||Pause|| |

ਸਗਲ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਤਿਸੁ ਮਿਲੇ ਜਿਨਿ ਗੁਰੁ ਡਿਠਾ ਜਾਇ ॥ |
sagal padhaarathh this milae jin gur ddithaa jaae || |
Those who go to see the Guru obtain all treasures. |

ਗੁਰ ਚਰਣੀ ਜਿਨ ਮਨੁ ਲਗਾ ਸੇ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਮਾਇ ॥ |
gur charanee jin man lagaa sae vaddabhaagee maae || |
Those whose minds are attached to the Guru's Feet are very fortunate, O my mother. |

ਗੁਰੁ ਦਾਤਾ ਸਮਰਥੁ ਗੁਰੁ ਗੁਰੁ ਸਭ ਮਹਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਇ ॥ |
gur dhaathaa samarathh gur gur sabh mehi rehiaa samaae || |
The Guru is the Giver, the Guru is All-powerful. The Guru is All-pervading, contained amongst all. |

ਗੁਰੁ ਪਰਮੇਸਰੁ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਗੁਰੁ ਡੁਬਦਾ ਲਏ ਤਰਾਇ ॥੨॥ |
gur paramaesar paarabreham gur ddubadhaa leae tharaae ||2|| |
The Guru is the Transcendent Lord, the Supreme Lord God. The Guru lifts up and saves those who are drowning. ||2|| |

ਕਿਤੁ ਮੁਖਿ ਗੁਰੁ ਸਾਲਾਹੀਐ ਕਰਣ ਕਾਰਣ ਸਮਰਥੁ ॥ |
kith mukh gur saalaaheeai karan kaaran samarathh || |
How shall I praise the Guru, the All-powerful Cause of causes? |

ਸੇ ਮਥੇ ਨਿਹਚਲ ਰਹੇ ਜਿਨ ਗੁਰਿ ਧਾਰਿਆ ਹਥੁ ॥ |
sae mathhae nihachal rehae jin gur dhhaariaa hathh || |
Those, upon whose foreheads the Guru has placed His Hand, remain steady and stable. |

ਗੁਰਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਪੀਆਲਿਆ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਕਾ ਪਥੁ ॥ |
gur anmrith naam peeaaliaa janam maran kaa pathh || |
The Guru has led me to drink in the Ambrosial Nectar of the Naam, the Name of the Lord; He has released me from the cycle of birth and death. |

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਗਹਿਰ ਗਭੀਰੁ ਹੈ ਸੁਖ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਅਘਖੰਡੁ ॥ |
sathigur gehir gabheer hai sukh saagar aghakhandd || |
The True Guru is the Deep and Profound Ocean of Peace, the Destroyer of sin. |

ਜਿਨਿ ਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿਆ ਆਪਣਾ ਜਮਦੂਤ ਨ ਲਾਗੈ ਡੰਡੁ ॥ |
jin gur saeviaa aapanaa jamadhooth n laagai ddandd || |
For those who serve their Guru, there is no punishment at the hands of the Messenger of Death. |

ਗੁਰ ਨਾਲਿ ਤੁਲਿ ਨ ਲਗਈ ਖੋਜਿ ਡਿਠਾ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੰਡੁ ॥ |
gur naal thul n lagee khoj ddithaa brehamandd || |
There is none to compare with the Guru; I have searched and looked throughout the entire universe. |

ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਦੀਆ ਸੁਖੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਮੰਡੁ ॥੪॥੨੦॥੯੦॥ |
naam nidhhaan sathigur dheeaa sukh naanak man mehi mandd ||4||20||90|| |
The True Guru has bestowed the Treasure of the Naam, the Name of the Lord. O Nanak, the mind is filled with peace. ||4||20||90|| |

ਮਿਠਾ ਕਰਿ ਕੈ ਖਾਇਆ ਕਉੜਾ ਉਪਜਿਆ ਸਾਦੁ ॥ |
mithaa kar kai khaaeiaa kourraa oupajiaa saadh || |
People eat what they believe to be sweet, but it turns out to be bitter in taste. |
|
ਭਾਈ ਮੀਤ ਸੁਰਿਦ ਕੀਏ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਰਚਿਆ ਬਾਦੁ ॥ |
bhaaee meeth suridh keeeae bikhiaa rachiaa baadh || |
They attach their affections to brothers and friends, uselessly engrossed in corruption. |
|
ਜਾਂਦੇ ਬਿਲਮ ਨ ਹੋਵਈ ਵਿਣੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਬਿਸਮਾਦੁ ॥੧॥ |
jaandhae bilam n hovee vin naavai bisamaadh ||1|| |
They vanish without a moment's delay; without God's Name, they are stunned and amazed. ||1|| |

ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਸਤਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਲਾਗੁ ॥ |
maerae man sathagur kee saevaa laag || |
O my mind, attach yourself to the service of the True Guru. |
|
ਜੋ ਦੀਸੈ ਸੋ ਵਿਣਸਣਾ ਮਨ ਕੀ ਮਤਿ ਤਿਆਗੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
jo dheesai so vinasanaa man kee math thiaag ||1|| rehaao || |
Whatever is seen, shall pass away. Abandon the intellectualizations of your mind. ||1||Pause|| |

ਜਿਉ ਕੂਕਰੁ ਹਰਕਾਇਆ ਧਾਵੈ ਦਹ ਦਿਸ ਜਾਇ ॥ |
jio kookar harakaaeiaa dhhaavai dheh dhis jaae || |
Like the mad dog running around in all directions, |

ਲੋਭੀ ਜੰਤੁ ਨ ਜਾਣਈ ਭਖੁ ਅਭਖੁ ਸਭ ਖਾਇ ॥ |
lobhee janth n jaanee bhakh abhakh sabh khaae || |
the greedy person, unaware, consumes everything, edible and non-edible alike. |

ਕਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਮਦਿ ਬਿਆਪਿਆ ਫਿਰਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਜੋਨੀ ਪਾਇ ॥੨॥ |
kaam krodhh madh biaapiaa fir fir jonee paae ||2|| |
Engrossed in the intoxication of sexual desire and anger, people wander through reincarnation over and over again. ||2|| |

ਮਾਇਆ ਜਾਲੁ ਪਸਾਰਿਆ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਚੋਗ ਬਣਾਇ ॥ |
maaeiaa jaal pasaariaa bheethar chog banaae || |
Maya has spread out her net, and in it, she has placed the bait. |

ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਪੰਖੀ ਫਾਸਿਆ ਨਿਕਸੁ ਨ ਪਾਏ ਮਾਇ ॥ |
thrisanaa pankhee faasiaa nikas n paaeae maae || |
The bird of desire is caught, and cannot find any escape, O my mother. |

ਜਿਨਿ ਕੀਤਾ ਤਿਸਹਿ ਨ ਜਾਣਈ ਫਿਰਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਇ ॥੩॥ |
jin keethaa thisehi n jaanee fir fir aavai jaae ||3|| |
One who does not know the Lord who created him, comes and goes in reincarnation over and over again. ||3|| |

ਅਨਿਕ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਰੀ ਮੋਹਿਆ ਬਹੁ ਬਿਧਿ ਇਹੁ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ॥ |
anik prakaaree mohiaa bahu bidhh eihu sansaar || |
By various devices, and in so many ways, this world is enticed. |
|
ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਰਖੈ ਸੋ ਰਹੈ ਸੰਮ੍ਰਿਥੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਅਪਾਰੁ ॥ |
jis no rakhai so rehai sanmrithh purakh apaar || |
They alone are saved, whom the All-powerful, Infinite Lord protects. |

ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਹਰਿ ਲਿਵ ਉਧਰੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਦ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੁ ॥੪॥੨੧॥੯੧॥ |
har jan har liv oudhharae naanak sadh balihaar ||4||21||91|| |
The servants of the Lord are saved by the Love of the Lord. O Nanak, I am forever a sacrifice to them. ||4||21||91|| |

The herdsman comes to the pasture lands-what good are his ostentatious displays here? |

ਮੁਹਲਤਿ ਪੁੰਨੀ ਚਲਣਾ ਤੂੰ ਸੰਮਲੁ ਘਰ ਬਾਰੁ ॥੧॥ |
muhalath punnee chalanaa thoon sanmal ghar baar ||1|| |
When your allotted time is up, you must go. Take care of your real hearth and home. ||1|| |

ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਉ ਮਨਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿ ਪਿਆਰਿ ॥ |
har gun gaao manaa sathigur saev piaar || |
O mind, sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord, and serve the True Guru with love. |

ਕਿਆ ਥੋੜੜੀ ਬਾਤ ਗੁਮਾਨੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
kiaa thhorrarree baath gumaan ||1|| rehaao || |
Why do you take pride in trivial matters? ||1||Pause|| |

ਜੈਸੇ ਰੈਣਿ ਪਰਾਹੁਣੇ ਉਠਿ ਚਲਸਹਿ ਪਰਭਾਤਿ ॥ |
jaisae rain paraahunae outh chalasehi parabhaath || |
Like an overnight guest, you shall arise and depart in the morning. |

ਕਿਆ ਤੂੰ ਰਤਾ ਗਿਰਸਤ ਸਿਉ ਸਭ ਫੁਲਾ ਕੀ ਬਾਗਾਤਿ ॥੨॥ |
kiaa thoon rathaa girasath sio sabh fulaa kee baagaath ||2|| |
Why are you so attached to your household? It is all like flowers in the garden. ||2|| |

ਮੇਰੀ ਮੇਰੀ ਕਿਆ ਕਰਹਿ ਜਿਨਿ ਦੀਆ ਸੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਲੋੜਿ ॥ |
maeree maeree kiaa karehi jin dheeaa so prabh lorr || |
Why do you say, ""Mine, mine""? Look to God, who has given it to you. |

ਸਰਪਰ ਉਠੀ ਚਲਣਾ ਛਡਿ ਜਾਸੀ ਲਖ ਕਰੋੜਿ ॥੩॥ |
sarapar outhee chalanaa shhadd jaasee lakh karorr ||3|| |
It is certain that you must arise and depart, and leave behind your hundreds of thousands and millions. ||3|| |

ਲਖ ਚਉਰਾਸੀਹ ਭ੍ਰਮਤਿਆ ਦੁਲਭ ਜਨਮੁ ਪਾਇਓਇ ॥ |
lakh chouraaseeh bhramathiaa dhulabh janam paaeioue || |
Through 8.4 million incarnations you have wandered, to obtain this rare and precious human life. |

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਮਾਲਿ ਤੂੰ ਸੋ ਦਿਨੁ ਨੇੜਾ ਆਇਓਇ ॥੪॥੨੨॥੯੨॥ |
naanak naam samaal thoon so dhin naerraa aaeioue ||4||22||92|| |
O Nanak, remember the Naam, the Name of the Lord; the day of departure is drawing near! ||4||22||92|| |

As long as the soul-companion is with the body, it dwells in happiness. |

ਜਾ ਸਾਥੀ ਉਠੀ ਚਲਿਆ ਤਾ ਧਨ ਖਾਕੂ ਰਾਲਿ ॥੧॥ |
jaa saathhee outhee chaliaa thaa dhhan khaakoo raal ||1|| |
But when the companion arises and departs, then the body-bride mingles with dust. ||1|| |

ਮਨਿ ਬੈਰਾਗੁ ਭਇਆ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਦੇਖਣੈ ਕਾ ਚਾਉ ॥ |
man bairaag bhaeiaa dharasan dhaekhanai kaa chaao || |
My mind has become detached from the world; it longs to see the Vision of God's Darshan. |

ਧੰਨੁ ਸੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਥਾਨੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
dhhann s thaeraa thhaan ||1|| rehaao || |
Blessed is Your Place. ||1||Pause|| |

ਜਿਚਰੁ ਵਸਿਆ ਕੰਤੁ ਘਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਜੀਉ ਸਭਿ ਕਹਾਤਿ ॥ |
jichar vasiaa kanth ghar jeeo jeeo sabh kehaath || |
As long as the soul-husband dwells in the body-house, everyone greets you with respect. |

ਜਾ ਉਠੀ ਚਲਸੀ ਕੰਤੜਾ ਤਾ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਪੁਛੈ ਤੇਰੀ ਬਾਤ ॥੨॥ |
jaa outhee chalasee kantharraa thaa koe n pushhai thaeree baath ||2|| |
But when the soul-husband arises and departs, then no one cares for you at all. ||2|| |

ਪੇਈਅੜੈ ਸਹੁ ਸੇਵਿ ਤੂੰ ਸਾਹੁਰੜੈ ਸੁਖਿ ਵਸੁ ॥ |
paeeearrai sahu saev thoon saahurarrai sukh vas || |
In this world of your parents' home, serve your Husband Lord; in the world beyond, in your in-laws' home, you shall dwell in peace. |

ਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਿ ਚਜੁ ਅਚਾਰੁ ਸਿਖੁ ਤੁਧੁ ਕਦੇ ਨ ਲਗੈ ਦੁਖੁ ॥੩॥ |
gur mil chaj achaar sikh thudhh kadhae n lagai dhukh ||3|| |
Meeting with the Guru, be a sincere student of proper conduct, and suffering shall never touch you. ||3|| |

ਨਾਨਕ ਧੰਨੁ ਸੋਹਾਗਣੀ ਜਿਨ ਸਹ ਨਾਲਿ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥੪॥੨੩॥੯੩॥ |
naanak dhhann sohaaganee jin seh naal piaar ||4||23||93|| |
O Nanak, blessed are the happy soul-brides, who are in love with their Husband Lord. ||4||23||93|| |
