| Such scholars and students have all died, and none of them have discovered the inner meaning. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਸਕਤਿ ਸਨੇਹੁ ਕਰਿ ਸੁੰਨਤਿ ਕਰੀਐ ਮੈ ਨ ਬਦਉਗਾ ਭਾਈ ॥ |
| sakath sanaehu kar sunnath kareeai mai n badhougaa bhaaee || |
| Because of the love of woman, circumcision is done; I don't believe in it, O Siblings of Destiny. |

| ਜਉ ਰੇ ਖੁਦਾਇ ਮੋਹਿ ਤੁਰਕੁ ਕਰੈਗਾ ਆਪਨ ਹੀ ਕਟਿ ਜਾਈ ॥੨॥ |
| jo rae khudhaae mohi thurak karaigaa aapan hee katt jaaee ||2|| |
| If God wished me to be a Muslim, it would be cut off by itself. ||2|| |

| ਸੁੰਨਤਿ ਕੀਏ ਤੁਰਕੁ ਜੇ ਹੋਇਗਾ ਅਉਰਤ ਕਾ ਕਿਆ ਕਰੀਐ ॥ |

| If circumcision makes one a Muslim, then what about a woman? |

| ਅਰਧ ਸਰੀਰੀ ਨਾਰਿ ਨ ਛੋਡੈ ਤਾ ਤੇ ਹਿੰਦੂ ਹੀ ਰਹੀਐ ॥੩॥ |
| aradhh sareeree naar n shhoddai thaa thae hindhoo hee reheeai ||3|| |
| She is the other half of a man's body, and she does not leave him, so he remains a Hindu. ||3|| |

| ਛਾਡਿ ਕਤੇਬ ਰਾਮੁ ਭਜੁ ਬਉਰੇ ਜੁਲਮ ਕਰਤ ਹੈ ਭਾਰੀ ॥ |
| shhaadd kathaeb raam bhaj bourae julam karath hai bhaaree || |
| Give up your holy books, and remember the Lord, you fool, and stop oppressing others so badly. |

| ਕਬੀਰੈ ਪਕਰੀ ਟੇਕ ਰਾਮ ਕੀ ਤੁਰਕ ਰਹੇ ਪਚਿਹਾਰੀ ॥੪॥੮॥ |

| Kabeer has grasped hold of the Lord's Support, and the Muslims have utterly failed. ||4||8|| |

| But when the oil is burnt, the wick goes out, and the mansion becomes desolate. ||1|| |

| ਰੇ ਬਉਰੇ ਤੁਹਿ ਘਰੀ ਨ ਰਾਖੈ ਕੋਈ ॥ |

| O mad-man, no one will keep you, for even a moment. |

| ਤੂੰ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਿ ਸੋਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |

| Tell me, whose mother is that, whose father is that, and which man has a wife? |

| ਘਟ ਫੂਟੇ ਕੋਊ ਬਾਤ ਨ ਪੂਛੈ ਕਾਢਹੁ ਕਾਢਹੁ ਹੋਈ ॥੨॥ |

| When the pitcher of the body breaks, no one cares for you at all. Everyone says, ""Take him away, take him away!""||2|| |

| ਦੇਹੁਰੀ ਬੈਠੀ ਮਾਤਾ ਰੋਵੈ ਖਟੀਆ ਲੇ ਗਏ ਭਾਈ ॥ |
| dhaehuree baithee maathaa rovai khatteeaa lae geae bhaaee || |
| Sitting on the threshold, his mother cries, and his brothers take away the coffin. |

| ਲਟ ਛਿਟਕਾਏ ਤਿਰੀਆ ਰੋਵੈ ਹੰਸੁ ਇਕੇਲਾ ਜਾਈ ॥੩॥ |

| Taking down her hair, his wife cries out in sorrow, and the swan-soul departs all alone. ||3|| |

| ਕਹਤ ਕਬੀਰ ਸੁਨਹੁ ਰੇ ਸੰਤਹੁ ਭੈ ਸਾਗਰ ਕੈ ਤਾਈ ॥ |

| Says Kabeer, listen, O Saints, about the terrifying world-ocean. |

| ਇਸੁ ਬੰਦੇ ਸਿਰਿ ਜੁਲਮੁ ਹੋਤ ਹੈ ਜਮੁ ਨਹੀ ਹਟੈ ਗੁਸਾਈ ॥੪॥੯॥ |
| eis bandhae sir julam hoth hai jam nehee hattai gusaaee ||4||9|| |
| This human suffers torture and the Messenger of Death will not leave him alone, O Lord of the World. ||4||9|| |

| Churn it steadily, so that the essence, the butter, may not be lost. ||1||Pause|| |

| Make your body the churning jar, and use the stick of your mind to churn it. |

| ਇਸੁ ਮਟੁਕੀ ਮਹਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਸੰਜੋਈ ॥੨॥ |

| Gather the curds of the Word of the Shabad. ||2|| |

| ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਬਿਲੋਵਨਾ ਮਨ ਕਾ ਬੀਚਾਰਾ ॥ |
| har kaa bilovanaa man kaa beechaaraa || |
| The churning of the Lord is to reflect upon Him within your mind. |

| ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਪਾਵੈ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਧਾਰਾ ॥੩॥ |

| The drum does not sound, and the actor has gone to sleep. ||1|| |

| ਬੁਝਿ ਗਈ ਅਗਨਿ ਨ ਨਿਕਸਿਓ ਧੂੰਆ ॥ |
| bujh gee agan n nikasiou dhhoonaa || |
| The fire has gone out, and no smoke is produced. |

| ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਏਕੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨਹੀ ਦੂਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |

| The string has broken, and the guitar makes no sound. |

| kathhanee badhanee kehan kehaavan || samajh paree tho bisariou gaavan ||3|| |
| When one comes to understand, he forgets his preaching, ranting and raving, and arguing. ||3|| |

| even then, his mother does not hold it against him in her mind. ||2|| |

| ਚਿੰਤ ਭਵਨਿ ਮਨੁ ਪਰਿਓ ਹਮਾਰਾ ॥ |
| chinth bhavan man pariou hamaaraa || |
| My mind has fallen into the whirlpool of anxiety. |

| ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨਾ ਕੈਸੇ ਉਤਰਸਿ ਪਾਰਾ ॥੩॥ |
| naam binaa kaisae outharas paaraa ||3|| |
| Without the Naam, how can I cross over to the other side? ||3|| |
