| Those who forget the Naam, the Name of the Lord, are a burden on the earth. ||1||Pause|| |

| aap leeeae larr laae dhar dharavaes sae || |
| Those whom the Lord attaches to the hem of His robe, are the true dervishes at His Door. |

| ਤਿਨ ਧੰਨੁ ਜਣੇਦੀ ਮਾਉ ਆਏ ਸਫਲੁ ਸੇ ॥੨॥ |
| thin dhhann janaedhee maao aaeae safal sae ||2|| |
| Blessed are the mothers who gave birth to them, and fruitful is their coming into the world. ||2|| |

| ਪਰਵਦਗਾਰ ਅਪਾਰ ਅਗਮ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਤੂ ॥ |
| paravadhagaar apaar agam baeanth thoo || |
| O Lord, Sustainer and Cherisher, You are infinite, unfathomable and endless. |

| ਜਿਨਾ ਪਛਾਤਾ ਸਚੁ ਚੁੰਮਾ ਪੈਰ ਮੂੰ ॥੩॥ |
| jinaa pashhaathaa sach chunmaa pair moon ||3|| |
| Those who recognize the True Lord - I kiss their feet. ||3|| |

| ਤੇਰੀ ਪਨਹ ਖੁਦਾਇ ਤੂ ਬਖਸੰਦਗੀ ॥ |

| I seek Your Protection - You are the Forgiving Lord. |

| Says Shaykh Fareed, O my dear friend, attach yourself to the Lord. |

| ਇਹੁ ਤਨੁ ਹੋਸੀ ਖਾਕ ਨਿਮਾਣੀ ਗੋਰ ਘਰੇ ॥੧॥ |
| eihu than hosee khaak nimaanee gor gharae ||1|| |
| This body shall turn to dust, and its home shall be a neglected graveyard. ||1|| |
|
| ਆਜੁ ਮਿਲਾਵਾ ਸੇਖ ਫਰੀਦ ਟਾਕਿਮ ਕੂੰਜੜੀਆ ਮਨਹੁ ਮਚਿੰਦੜੀਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| aaj milaavaa saekh fareedh ttaakim koonjarreeaa manahu machindharreeaa ||1|| rehaao || |
| You can meet the Lord today, O Shaykh Fareed, if you restrain your bird-like desires which keep your mind in turmoil. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਜੇ ਜਾਣਾ ਮਰਿ ਜਾਈਐ ਘੁਮਿ ਨ ਆਈਐ ॥ |
| jae jaanaa mar jaaeeai ghum n aaeeai || |
| If I had known that I was to die, and not return again, |
|
| ਝੂਠੀ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਲਗਿ ਨ ਆਪੁ ਵਞਾਈਐ ॥੨॥ |
| jhoothee dhuneeaa lag n aap vanjaaeeai ||2|| |
| I would not have ruined myself by clinging to the world of falsehood. ||2|| |
|
| ਬੋਲੀਐ ਸਚੁ ਧਰਮੁ ਝੂਠੁ ਨ ਬੋਲੀਐ ॥ |
| boleeai sach dhharam jhooth n boleeai || |
| So speak the Truth, in righteousness, and do not speak falsehood. |
|
| ਜੋ ਗੁਰੁ ਦਸੈ ਵਾਟ ਮੁਰੀਦਾ ਜੋਲੀਐ ॥੩॥ |
| jo gur dhasai vaatt mureedhaa joleeai ||3|| |
| The disciple ought to travel the route, pointed out by the Guru. ||3|| |
|
| ਛੈਲ ਲੰਘੰਦੇ ਪਾਰਿ ਗੋਰੀ ਮਨੁ ਧੀਰਿਆ ॥ |
| shhail langhandhae paar goree man dhheeriaa || |
| Seeing the youths being carried across, the hearts of the beautiful young soul-brides are encouraged. |

| ਕੰਚਨ ਵੰਨੇ ਪਾਸੇ ਕਲਵਤਿ ਚੀਰਿਆ ॥੪॥ |
| kanchan vannae paasae kalavath cheeriaa ||4|| |
| Those who side with the glitter of gold, are cut down with a saw. ||4|| |
|
| ਸੇਖ ਹੈਯਾਤੀ ਜਗਿ ਨ ਕੋਈ ਥਿਰੁ ਰਹਿਆ ॥ |
| saekh haiyaathee jag n koee thhir rehiaa || |
| O Shaykh, no one's life is permanent in this world. |
|
| ਜਿਸੁ ਆਸਣਿ ਹਮ ਬੈਠੇ ਕੇਤੇ ਬੈਸਿ ਗਇਆ ॥੫॥ |
| jis aasan ham baithae kaethae bais gaeiaa ||5|| |
| That seat, upon which we now sit - many others sat on it and have since departed. ||5|| |
|
| ਕਤਿਕ ਕੂੰਜਾਂ ਚੇਤਿ ਡਉ ਸਾਵਣਿ ਬਿਜੁਲੀਆਂ ॥ |
| kathik koonjaan chaeth ddo saavan bijuleeaaan || |
| As the swallows appear in the month of Katik, forest fires in the month of Chayt, and lightning in Saawan, |
|
| ਸੀਆਲੇ ਸੋਹੰਦੀਆਂ ਪਿਰ ਗਲਿ ਬਾਹੜੀਆਂ ॥੬॥ |
| seeaalae sohandheeaaan pir gal baaharreeaaan ||6|| |
| and as the bride's arms adorn her husband's neck in winter;||6|| |
|
| ਚਲੇ ਚਲਣਹਾਰ ਵਿਚਾਰਾ ਲੇਇ ਮਨੋ ॥ |
| chalae chalanehaar vichaaraa laee mano || |
| Just so, the transitory human bodies pass away. Reflect upon this in your mind. |
|
| ਗੰਢੇਦਿਆਂ ਛਿਅ ਮਾਹ ਤੁੜੰਦਿਆ ਹਿਕੁ ਖਿਨੋ ॥੭॥ |
| gandtaedhiaaan shhia maah thurrandhiaa hik khino ||7|| |
| It takes six months to form the body, but it breaks in an instant. ||7|| |
|
| ਜਿਮੀ ਪੁਛੈ ਅਸਮਾਨ ਫਰੀਦਾ ਖੇਵਟ ਕਿੰਨਿ ਗਏ ॥ |
| jimee pushhai asamaan fareedhaa khaevatt kinn geae || |
| O Fareed, the earth asks the sky, ""Where have the boatmen gone?"" |

| ੴ ਸਤਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਕਰਤਾ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਨਿਰਵੈਰੁ ਅਕਾਲ ਮੂਰਤਿ ਅਜੂਨੀ ਸੈਭੰ ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥ |

| I would make Your Name the sandalwood, and my mind the stone to rub it on; |

| ਕਰਣੀ ਕੁੰਗੂ ਜੇ ਰਲੈ ਘਟ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਪੂਜਾ ਹੋਇ ॥੧॥ |
| karanee kungoo jae ralai ghatt anthar poojaa hoe ||1|| |
| for saffron, I would offer good deeds; thus, I perform worship and adoration within my heart. ||1|| |

| ਪੂਜਾ ਕੀਚੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਈਐ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਪੂਜ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| poojaa keechai naam dhhiaaeeai bin naavai pooj n hoe ||1|| rehaao || |
| Perform worship and adoration by meditating on the Naam, the Name of the Lord; without the Name, there is no worship and adoration. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਬਾਹਰਿ ਦੇਵ ਪਖਾਲੀਅਹਿ ਜੇ ਮਨੁ ਧੋਵੈ ਕੋਇ ॥ |
| baahar dhaev pakhaaleeahi jae man dhhovai koe || |
| If one were to wash his heart inwardly, like the stone idol which is washed on the outside, |
|
| ਜੂਠਿ ਲਹੈ ਜੀਉ ਮਾਜੀਐ ਮੋਖ ਪਇਆਣਾ ਹੋਇ ॥੨॥ |
| jooth lehai jeeo maajeeai mokh paeiaanaa hoe ||2|| |
| his filth would be removed, his soul would be cleansed, and he would be liberated when he departs. ||2|| |
|
| ਪਸੂ ਮਿਲਹਿ ਚੰਗਿਆਈਆ ਖੜੁ ਖਾਵਹਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਦੇਹਿ ॥ |
| pasoo milehi changiaaeeaa kharr khaavehi anmrith dhaehi || |
| Even beasts have value, as they eat grass and give milk. |

| ਨਾਮ ਵਿਹੂਣੇ ਆਦਮੀ ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਜੀਵਣ ਕਰਮ ਕਰੇਹਿ ॥੩॥ |
| naam vihoonae aadhamee dhhrig jeevan karam karaehi ||3|| |
| Without the Naam, the mortal's life is cursed, as are the actions he performs. ||3|| |
|
| ਨੇੜਾ ਹੈ ਦੂਰਿ ਨ ਜਾਣਿਅਹੁ ਨਿਤ ਸਾਰੇ ਸੰਮ੍ਹ੍ਹਾਲੇ ॥ |
| naerraa hai dhoor n jaaniahu nith saarae sanmhaalae || |
| The Lord is hear at hand - do not think that He is far away. He always cherishes us, and remembers us. |
|
| ਜੋ ਦੇਵੈ ਸੋ ਖਾਵਣਾ ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਚਾ ਹੇ ॥੪॥੧॥ |
| jo dhaevai so khaavanaa kahu naanak saachaa hae ||4||1|| |
| Whatever He gives us, we eat; says Nanak, He is the True Lord. ||4||1|| |

| naabh kamal thae brehamaa oupajae baedh parrehi mukh kanth savaar || |
| From the lotus of Vishnu's navel, Brahma was born; He chanted the Vedas with a melodious voice. |

| ਤਾ ਕੋ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ਲਖਣਾ ਆਵਤ ਜਾਤ ਰਹੈ ਗੁਬਾਰਿ ॥੧॥ |
| thaa ko anth n jaaee lakhanaa aavath jaath rehai gubaar ||1|| |
| He could not find the Lord's limits, and he remained in the darkness of coming and going. ||1|| |
|
| ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਕਿਉ ਬਿਸਰਹਿ ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਣ ਅਧਾਰ ॥ |
| preetham kio bisarehi maerae praan adhhaar || |
| Why should I forget my Beloved? He is the support of my very breath of life. |

| ਜਾ ਕੀ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਜਨ ਪੂਰੇ ਮੁਨਿ ਜਨ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਗੁਰ ਵੀਚਾਰਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| jaa kee bhagath karehi jan poorae mun jan saevehi gur veechaar ||1|| rehaao || |
| The perfect beings perform devotional worship to Him. The silent sages serve Him through the Guru's Teachings. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਰਵਿ ਸਸਿ ਦੀਪਕ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਤ੍ਰਿਭਵਣਿ ਏਕਾ ਜੋਤਿ ਮੁਰਾਰਿ ॥ |
| rav sas dheepak jaa kae thribhavan eaekaa joth muraar || |
| His lamps are the sun and the moon; the One Light of the Destroyer of ego fills the three worlds. |

| ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਇ ਸੁ ਅਹਿਨਿਸਿ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਰੈਣਿ ਅੰਧਾਰਿ ॥੨॥ |
| guramukh hoe s ahinis niramal manamukh rain andhhaar ||2|| |
| One who becomes Gurmukh remains immaculately pure, day and night, while the self-willed manmukh is enveloped by the darkness of night. ||2|| |

| ਸਿਧ ਸਮਾਧਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਨਿਤ ਝਗਰਾ ਦੁਹੁ ਲੋਚਨ ਕਿਆ ਹੇਰੈ ॥ |
| sidhh samaadhh karehi nith jhagaraa dhuhu lochan kiaa haerai || |
| The Siddhas in Samaadhi are continually in conflict; what can they see with their two eyes? |

| ਅੰਤਰਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਧੁਨਿ ਜਾਗੈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਝਗਰੁ ਨਿਬੇਰੈ ॥੩॥ |
| anthar joth sabadh dhhun jaagai sathigur jhagar nibaerai ||3|| |
| One who has the Divine Light within his heart, and is awakened to the melody of the Word of the Shabad - the True Guru settles his conflicts. ||3|| |

| jith kanm har veesarai dhoojai lagai jaae ||1|| |
| Cursed is that occupation, in which the Lord is forgotten, and one becomes attached to duality. ||1|| |
