| aisaa sathigur saeveeai manaa jith saeviai govidh preeth oopajai avar visar sabh jaae || |
| Serve such a True Guru, O my mind, that by serving Him, God's Love may be produced, and all others may be forgotten. |

| har saethee chith gehi rehai jaraa kaa bho n hovee jeevan padhavee paae ||1|| rehaao || |
| Your consciousness shall remain attached to the Lord; there shall be no fear of old age, and the supreme status shall be obtained. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਸਿਉ ਇਕੁ ਸਹਜੁ ਉਪਜਿਆ ਵੇਖੁ ਜੈਸੀ ਭਗਤਿ ਬਨੀ ॥ |
| gobindh preeth sio eik sehaj oupajiaa vaekh jaisee bhagath banee || |
| A divine peace wells up from God's Love; behold, it comes from devotional worship. |

| ਆਪ ਸੇਤੀ ਆਪੁ ਖਾਇਆ ਤਾ ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਹੋਆ ਜੋਤੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਸਮਈ ॥੨॥ |
| aap saethee aap khaaeiaa thaa man niramal hoaa jothee joth samee ||2|| |
| When my identity consumed my identical identity, then my mind became immaculately pure, and my light was blended with the Divine Light. ||2|| |

| ਬਿਨੁ ਭਾਗਾ ਐਸਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ਜੇ ਲੋਚੈ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਇ ॥ |
| bin bhaagaa aisaa sathigur n paaeeai jae lochai sabh koe || |
| Without good fortune, such a True Guru cannot be found, no matter how much all may yearn for Him. |

| ਕੂੜੈ ਕੀ ਪਾਲਿ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਨਿਕਲੈ ਤਾ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ॥੩॥ |
| koorrai kee paal vichahu nikalai thaa sadhaa sukh hoe ||3|| |
| If the veil of falsehood is removed from within, then lasting peace is obtained. ||3|| |

| ਨਾਨਕ ਐਸੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਕਿਆ ਓਹੁ ਸੇਵਕੁ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਆਗੈ ਜੀਉ ਧਰੇਇ ॥ |
| naanak aisae sathigur kee kiaa ouhu saevak saevaa karae gur aagai jeeo dhharaee || |
| O Nanak, what service can the servant perform for such a True Guru? He should offer his life, his very soul, to the Guru. |

| Serve the Lord; do not serve anyone else. |

| ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਤੇ ਮਨਹੁ ਚਿੰਦਿਆ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਦੂਜੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਾਇ ਜੀ ॥੧॥ |
| har kee saevaa thae manahu chindhiaa fal paaeeai dhoojee saevaa janam birathhaa jaae jee ||1|| |
| Serving the Lord, you shall obtain the fruits of your heart's desires; serving another, your life shall pass away in vain. ||1|| |

| The Lord is my Love, the Lord is my way of life, the Lord is my speech and conversation. |

| har maeraa simrith har maeraa saasathr har maeraa bandhhap har maeraa bhaaee || |
| The Lord is my Simritees, the Lord is my Shaastras; the Lord is my relative and the Lord is my brother. |

| ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਮੈ ਭੂਖ ਲਾਗੈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨੁ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤੈ ਹਰਿ ਮੇਰਾ ਸਾਕੁ ਅੰਤਿ ਹੋਇ ਸਖਾਈ ॥੨॥ |
| har kee mai bhookh laagai har naam maeraa man thripathai har maeraa saak anth hoe sakhaaee ||2|| |
| I am hungry for the Lord; my mind is satisfied with the Name of the Lord. The Lord is my relation, my helper in the end. ||2|| |

| ਹਰਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਹੋਰ ਰਾਸਿ ਕੂੜੀ ਹੈ ਚਲਦਿਆ ਨਾਲਿ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥ |
| har bin hor raas koorree hai chaladhiaa naal n jaaee || |
| Without the Lord, other assets are false. They do not go with the mortal when he departs. |

| ਹਰਿ ਮੇਰਾ ਧਨੁ ਮੇਰੈ ਸਾਥਿ ਚਾਲੈ ਜਹਾ ਹਉ ਜਾਉ ਤਹ ਜਾਈ ॥੩॥ |
| har maeraa dhhan maerai saathh chaalai jehaa ho jaao theh jaaee ||3|| |
| The Lord is my wealth, which shall go with me; wherever I go, it will go. ||3|| |
|
| ਸੋ ਝੂਠਾ ਜੋ ਝੂਠੇ ਲਾਗੈ ਝੂਠੇ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਈ ॥ |
| so jhoothaa jo jhoothae laagai jhoothae karam kamaaee || |
| One who is attached to falsehood is false; false are the deeds he does. |

| ਕਹੈ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਭਾਣਾ ਹੋਆ ਕਹਣਾ ਕਛੂ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥੪॥੨॥੪॥ |
| kehai naanak har kaa bhaanaa hoaa kehanaa kashhoo n jaaee ||4||2||4|| |
| Says Nanak, everything happens according to the Will of the Lord; no one has any say in this at all. ||4||2||4|| |

| jug maahi naam dhulanbh hai guramukh paaeiaa jaae || |
| It is so difficult to obtain the Naam, the Name of the Lord, in this age; only the Gurmukh obtains it. |

| ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਵਈ ਵੇਖਹੁ ਕੋ ਵਿਉਪਾਇ ॥੧॥ |
| bin naavai mukath n hovee vaekhahu ko vioupaae ||1|| |
| Without the Name, no one is liberated; let anyone make other efforts, and see. ||1|| |

| ਬਲਿਹਾਰੀ ਗੁਰ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਦ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੈ ਜਾਉ ॥ |
| balihaaree gur aapanae sadh balihaarai jaao || |
| I am a sacrifice to my Guru; I am forever a sacrifice to Him. |

| ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਹਰਿ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਸਹਜੇ ਰਹੈ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| sathigur miliai har man vasai sehajae rehai samaae ||1|| rehaao || |
| Meeting the True Guru, the Lord comes to dwell in the mind, and one remains absorbed in Him. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਜਾਂ ਭਉ ਪਾਏ ਆਪਣਾ ਬੈਰਾਗੁ ਉਪਜੈ ਮਨਿ ਆਇ ॥ |
| jaan bho paaeae aapanaa bairaag oupajai man aae || |
| When God instills His fear, a balanced detachment springs up in the mind. |

| ਬੈਰਾਗੈ ਤੇ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਈਐ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਉ ਰਹੈ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੨॥ |
| bairaagai thae har paaeeai har sio rehai samaae ||2|| |
| Through this detachment, the Lord is obtained, and one remains absorbed in the Lord. ||2|| |
|
| ਸੇਇ ਮੁਕਤ ਜਿ ਮਨੁ ਜਿਣਹਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਧਾਤੁ ਨ ਲਾਗੈ ਆਇ ॥ |
| saee mukath j man jinehi fir dhhaath n laagai aae || |
| He alone is liberated, who conquers his mind; Maya does not stick to him again. |

| ਦਸਵੈ ਦੁਆਰਿ ਰਹਤ ਕਰੇ ਤ੍ਰਿਭਵਣ ਸੋਝੀ ਪਾਇ ॥੩॥ |
| dhasavai dhuaar rehath karae thribhavan sojhee paae ||3|| |
| He dwells in the Tenth Gate, and obtains the understanding of the three worlds. ||3|| |

| ਇਹੁ ਕਾਰਣੁ ਕਰਤਾ ਕਰੇ ਜੋਤੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੪॥੩॥੫॥ |
| eihu kaaran karathaa karae jothee joth samaae ||4||3||5|| |
| This deed was done by the Creator Lord; one's light merges into the Light. ||4||3||5|| |

| raam raam sabh ko kehai kehiai raam n hoe || |
| Everyone chants the Lord's Name, Raam, Raam; but by such chanting, the Lord is not obtained. |

| ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਰਾਮੁ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਤਾ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਵੈ ਕੋਇ ॥੧॥ |
| gur parasaadhee raam man vasai thaa fal paavai koe ||1|| |
| By Guru's Grace, the Lord comes to dwell in the mind, and then, the fruits are obtained. ||1|| |

| ਅੰਤਰਿ ਗੋਵਿੰਦ ਜਿਸੁ ਲਾਗੈ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ॥ |
| anthar govindh jis laagai preeth || |
| One who enshrines love for God within his mind, |
|
| ਹਰਿ ਤਿਸੁ ਕਦੇ ਨ ਵੀਸਰੈ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਸਦਾ ਮਨਿ ਚੀਤਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| har this kadhae n veesarai har har karehi sadhaa man cheeth ||1|| rehaao || |
| never forgets the Lord; he continually chants the Lord's Name, Har, Har, in his conscious mind. ||1||Pause|| |
|
| ਹਿਰਦੈ ਜਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਕੈ ਕਪਟੁ ਵਸੈ ਬਾਹਰਹੁ ਸੰਤ ਕਹਾਹਿ ॥ |
| hiradhai jinh kai kapatt vasai baaharahu santh kehaahi || |
| Those whose hearts are filled with hypocrisy, who are called saints only for their outward show |

| ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਮੂਲਿ ਨ ਚੁਕਈ ਅੰਤਿ ਗਏ ਪਛੁਤਾਹਿ ॥੨॥ |
| thrisanaa mool n chukee anth geae pashhuthaahi ||2|| |
| - their desires are never satisfied, and they depart grieving in the end. ||2|| |
|
| ਅਨੇਕ ਤੀਰਥ ਜੇ ਜਤਨ ਕਰੈ ਤਾ ਅੰਤਰ ਕੀ ਹਉਮੈ ਕਦੇ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥ |
| anaek theerathh jae jathan karai thaa anthar kee houmai kadhae n jaae || |
| Although one may bathe at many places of pilgrimage, still, his ego never departs. |
|
| ਜਿਸੁ ਨਰ ਕੀ ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਨ ਜਾਇ ਧਰਮ ਰਾਇ ਤਿਸੁ ਦੇਇ ਸਜਾਇ ॥੩॥ |
| jis nar kee dhubidhhaa n jaae dhharam raae this dhaee sajaae ||3|| |
| That man, whose sense of duality does not depart - the Righteous Judge of Dharma shall punish him. ||3|| |
|
| ਕਰਮੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੋਈ ਜਨੁ ਪਾਏ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਬੂਝੈ ਕੋਈ ॥ |
| karam hovai soee jan paaeae guramukh boojhai koee || |
| That humble being, unto whom God showers His Mercy, obtains Him; how few are the Gurmukhs who understand Him. |

| ਨਾਨਕ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰੇ ਤਾਂ ਹਰਿ ਭੇਟੈ ਸੋਈ ॥੪॥੪॥੬॥ |
| naanak vichahu houmai maarae thaan har bhaettai soee ||4||4||6|| |
| O Nanak, if one conquers his ego within, then he comes to meet the Lord. ||4||4||6|| |

| this jan saanth sadhaa math nihachal jis kaa abhimaan gavaaeae || |
| That humble being who eliminates his ego is at peace; he is blessed with an ever-stable intellect. |

| ਸੋ ਜਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਜਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਬੂਝੈ ਹਰਿ ਚਰਣੀ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਏ ॥੧॥ |
| so jan niramal j guramukh boojhai har charanee chith laaeae ||1|| |
| That humble being is immaculately pure, who, as Gurmukh, understands the Lord, and focuses his consciousness on the Lord's Feet. ||1|| |
|
| ਹਰਿ ਚੇਤਿ ਅਚੇਤ ਮਨਾ ਜੋ ਇਛਹਿ ਸੋ ਫਲੁ ਹੋਈ ॥ |
| har chaeth achaeth manaa jo eishhehi so fal hoee || |
| O my unconscious mind, remain conscious of the Lord, and you shall obtain the fruits of your desires. |

| ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਪੀਵਤ ਰਹਹਿ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| gur parasaadhee har ras paavehi peevath rehehi sadhaa sukh hoee ||1|| rehaao || |
| By Guru's Grace, you shall obtain the sublime elixir of the Lord; by continually drinking it in, you shall have eternal peace. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਭੇਟੇ ਤਾ ਪਾਰਸੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਪਾਰਸੁ ਹੋਇ ਤ ਪੂਜ ਕਰਾਏ ॥ |
| sathigur bhaettae thaa paaras hovai paaras hoe th pooj karaaeae || |
| When one meets the True Guru, he becomes the philosopher's stone, with the ability to transform others, inspiring them to worship the Lord. |

| ਜੋ ਉਸੁ ਪੂਜੇ ਸੋ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਏ ਦੀਖਿਆ ਦੇਵੈ ਸਾਚੁ ਬੁਝਾਏ ॥੨॥ |
| jo ous poojae so fal paaeae dheekhiaa dhaevai saach bujhaaeae ||2|| |
| One who worships the Lord in adoration, obtains his rewards; instructing others, he reveals the Truth. ||2|| |
|
| ਵਿਣੁ ਪਾਰਸੈ ਪੂਜ ਨ ਹੋਵਈ ਵਿਣੁ ਮਨ ਪਰਚੇ ਅਵਰਾ ਸਮਝਾਏ ॥ |
| vin paarasai pooj n hovee vin man parachae avaraa samajhaaeae || |
| Without becoming the philosopher's stone, he does not inspire others to worship the Lord; without instructing his own mind, how can he instruct others? |

| ਗੁਰੂ ਸਦਾਏ ਅਗਿਆਨੀ ਅੰਧਾ ਕਿਸੁ ਓਹੁ ਮਾਰਗਿ ਪਾਏ ॥੩॥ |
| guroo sadhaaeae agiaanee andhhaa kis ouhu maarag paaeae ||3|| |
| The ignorant, blind man calls himself the guru, but to whom can he show the way? ||3|| |
|
| ਨਾਨਕ ਵਿਣੁ ਨਦਰੀ ਕਿਛੂ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ਜਿਸੁ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਸੋ ਪਾਏ ॥ |
| naanak vin nadharee kishhoo n paaeeai jis nadhar karae so paaeae || |
| O Nanak, without His Mercy, nothing can be obtained. One upon whom He casts His Glance of Grace, obtains Him. |
