| Meeting the True Guru, wisdom is produced, and then, one obtains this understanding. ||1|| |

| Listen to the sermon of the Lord, O mind, and enshrine the Shabad of His Word within your mind. |

| ਇਹ ਮਤਿ ਤੇਰੀ ਥਿਰੁ ਰਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਭਰਮੁ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਜਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |

| If your intellect remains stable and steady, then doubt shall depart from within you. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਹਰਿ ਚਰਣ ਰਿਦੈ ਵਸਾਇ ਤੂ ਕਿਲਵਿਖ ਹੋਵਹਿ ਨਾਸੁ ॥ |
| har charan ridhai vasaae thoo kilavikh hovehi naas || |
| Enshrine the Lord's lotus feet within your heart, and your sins shall be erased. |

| ਪੰਚ ਭੂ ਆਤਮਾ ਵਸਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਤਾ ਤੀਰਥ ਕਰਹਿ ਨਿਵਾਸੁ ॥੨॥ |
| panch bhoo aathamaa vas karehi thaa theerathh karehi nivaas ||2|| |
| If your soul overcomes the five elements, then you shall come to have a home at the true place of pilgrimage. ||2|| |
|
| ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਮੁਗਧੁ ਹੈ ਸੋਝੀ ਕਿਛੂ ਨ ਪਾਇ ॥ |
| manamukh eihu man mugadhh hai sojhee kishhoo n paae || |
| This mind of the self-centered manmukh is so stupid; it does not obtain any understanding at all. |

| ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਬੁਝਈ ਅੰਤਿ ਗਇਆ ਪਛੁਤਾਇ ॥੩॥ |
| har kaa naam n bujhee anth gaeiaa pashhuthaae ||3|| |
| It does not understand the Name of the Lord; it departs repenting in the end. ||3|| |

| ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਕਾਸੀ ਸਭਿ ਤੀਰਥ ਸਿਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਦੀਆ ਬੁਝਾਇ ॥ |
| eihu man kaasee sabh theerathh simrith sathigur dheeaa bujhaae || |
| In this mind are found Benares, all sacred shrines of pilgrimage and the Shaastras; the True Guru has explained this. |

| ਅਠਸਠਿ ਤੀਰਥ ਤਿਸੁ ਸੰਗਿ ਰਹਹਿ ਜਿਨ ਹਰਿ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੪॥ |
| athasath theerathh this sang rehehi jin har hiradhai rehiaa samaae ||4|| |
| The sixty-eight places of pilgrimage remain with one, whose heart is filled with the Lord. ||4|| |

| ਨਾਨਕ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਬੁਝਿਆ ਏਕੁ ਵਸਿਆ ਮਨਿ ਆਇ ॥ |

| O Nanak, upon meeting the True Guru, the Order of the Lord's Will is understood, and the One Lord comes to dwell in the mind. |

| The One Name is the treasure, O Pandit. Listen to these True Teachings. |

| ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਜੇਤਾ ਪੜਹਿ ਪੜਤ ਗੁਣਤ ਸਦਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਹੋਈ ॥੧॥ |
| dhoojai bhaae jaethaa parrehi parrath gunath sadhaa dhukh hoee ||1|| |
| No matter what you read in duality, reading and contemplating it, you shall only continue to suffer. ||1|| |
|
| ਹਰਿ ਚਰਣੀ ਤੂੰ ਲਾਗਿ ਰਹੁ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੋਝੀ ਹੋਈ ॥ |
| har charanee thoon laag rahu gur sabadh sojhee hoee || |
| So grasp the Lord's lotus feet; through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, you shall come to understand. |

| ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਰਸਨਾ ਚਾਖੁ ਤੂੰ ਤਾਂ ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਹੋਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| har ras rasanaa chaakh thoon thaan man niramal hoee ||1|| rehaao || |
| With your tongue, taste the sublime elixir of the Lord, and your mind shall be rendered immaculately pure. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਮਨੁ ਸੰਤੋਖੀਐ ਤਾ ਫਿਰਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਭੂਖ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥ |
| sathigur miliai man santhokheeai thaa fir thrisanaa bhookh n hoe || |
| Meeting the True Guru, the mind becomes content, and then, hunger and desire will not trouble you any longer. |

| ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਪਰ ਘਰਿ ਜਾਇ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥੨॥ |
| naam nidhhaan paaeiaa par ghar jaae n koe ||2|| |
| Obtaining the treasure of the Naam, the Name of the Lord, one does not go knocking at other doors. ||2|| |

| ਕਥਨੀ ਬਦਨੀ ਜੇ ਕਰੇ ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਬੂਝ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥ |
| kathhanee badhanee jae karae manamukh boojh n hoe || |
| The self-willed manmukh babbles on and on, but he does not understand. |
|
| ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਘਟਿ ਚਾਨਣਾ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਾਵੈ ਸੋਇ ॥੩॥ |
| guramathee ghatt chaananaa har naam paavai soe ||3|| |
| One whose heart is illumined, by Guru's Teachings, obtains the Name of the Lord. ||3|| |
|
| ਸੁਣਿ ਸਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਤੂੰ ਨ ਬੁਝਹੀ ਤਾ ਫਿਰਹਿ ਬਾਰੋ ਬਾਰ ॥ |
| sun saasathr thoon n bujhehee thaa firehi baaro baar || |
| You may listen to the Shaastras, but you do not understand, and so you wander from door to door. |

| ਸੋ ਮੂਰਖੁ ਜੋ ਆਪੁ ਨ ਪਛਾਣਈ ਸਚਿ ਨ ਧਰੇ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥੪॥ |
| so moorakh jo aap n pashhaanee sach n dhharae piaar ||4|| |
| He is a fool, who does not understand his own self, and who does not enshrine love for the True Lord. ||4|| |
|
| ਸਚੈ ਜਗਤੁ ਡਹਕਾਇਆ ਕਹਣਾ ਕਛੂ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥ |
| sachai jagath ddehakaaeiaa kehanaa kashhoo n jaae || |
| The True Lord has fooled the world - no one has any say in this at all. |

| ਨਾਨਕ ਜੋ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋ ਕਰੇ ਜਿਉ ਤਿਸ ਕੀ ਰਜਾਇ ॥੫॥੭॥੯॥ |

| The Lord's servants have the greatest good fortune; they have faith in the Lord, Har, Har, and a thirst for the Lord. |

| har har naam milai thripathaasehi mil sangath gun paragaas ||2|| |
| Obtaining the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, they are satisfied; joining the Company of the Holy, their virtues shine forth. ||2|| |

| ਜਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ਤੇ ਭਾਗਹੀਣ ਜਮ ਪਾਸਿ ॥ |
| jinh har har har ras naam n paaeiaa thae bhaageheen jam paas || |
| Those who have not obtained the essence of the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, are most unfortunate; they are taken away by the Messenger of Death. |

| ਜੋ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸਰਣਿ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਨਹੀ ਆਏ ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਜੀਵੇ ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਜੀਵਾਸਿ ॥੩॥ |
| jo sathigur saran sangath nehee aaeae dhhrig jeevae dhhrig jeevaas ||3|| |
| Those who have not sought the Sanctuary of the True Guru and the Company of the Holy - cursed are their lives, and cursed are their hopes of life. ||3|| |

| jin har jan sathigur sangath paaee thin dhhur masathak likhiaa likhaas || |
| Those humble servants of the Lord, who have obtained the Company of the True Guru, have such pre-ordained destiny written on their foreheads. |

| Evil-minded, unfortunate and shallow-minded are those who feel anger in their minds, when they hear the Naam, the Name of the Lord. |

| ਕਊਆ ਕਾਗ ਕਉ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਰਸੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤੈ ਵਿਸਟਾ ਖਾਇ ਮੁਖਿ ਗੋਹੈ ॥੩॥ |
| kooaa kaag ko anmrith ras paaeeai thripathai visattaa khaae mukh gohai ||3|| |
| You may place ambrosial nectar before crows and ravens, but they will be satisfied only by eating manure and dung with their mouths. ||3|| |

| The True Guru, the Speaker of Truth, is the pool of Ambrosial Nectar; bathing within it, the crow becomes a swan. |
